Chapter money and member s efforts have been utilized by doing the following projects: Donated $6,000 towards the new restroom on Eagle Lake. Installed Know The Difference and Eurasian Milfoil signs at Vilas and Oneida County Lakes. Purchased and distributed 50,000 Know The Difference license holders. Members trained in boater safety offered classes throughout Vilas and Oneida Counties. Support Kids Fishing days with money and personnel. Donated to the Ben Bendricks Scholarship Fund. Purchased 10 handicap piers for various lakes. Assisted financially with improvements of boat landings throughout Vilas and Oneida Counties. Financial support to Three Lakes Fish & Wildlife Improvement Assoc. Financial support to Trophy Lake Research Project by the DNR Financial support for stocking bluegills in the Eagle River Chain. Donated half the cost of publishing Muskies, Inc. History Book. Stocking of over $50,000 worth of muskies in area lakes Contributed financially to new park and dock on Yellow birch Lake. Hosted state and international functions. Host of the Spring Classic Muskie Tournament on the Eagle River Chain and the Fall Classic Muskie Tournament in Three Lakes. Sponsor the $1,000 Headwaters Chapter of Muskies Inc. Memorial Scholarship at the Natural Resources School at UW Stevens Point, WI. The Headwaters Chapter has spent over $1 million in the last several years on the above projects!! The Headwaters Chapter was the recipient of the Wis. Tim was a fellow director, Tuesday night musky league and Thurs. night Sayner/ST. Germain team partner and good friend. Our condolences go out to his family. Our annual Christmas party at Eagle Waters Resort had 61 members attend. Thanks to Eagle Waters for a wonderful meal and to Dan Pudlo and Andy Hendrickson, who teamed with their fun ideas to make this event a great success. Our scholarship committee under the leadership of Louie Dreger has selected Kaitlyn Duhm for our 2017, $1,000 Headwaters Chapter Scholarship. Kaitlyn has a 3.6 GPA and is currently in her junior year majoring in Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. Her home town is Bonduel, Wisconsin. Our chapter will once again have a booth in the Wisconsin Musky Expo March 3rd, 4 th and 5 th, at the Patriot Center, Wausau. This is the fifth year for this Expo and I can recommend it to all. For more information on the Expo please visit: Please plan on attending our Annual Banquet April 8th at a NEW location; the White Tail Inn, St.Germain. Best bang for your buck is to purchase the $150 worth of raffle tickets for only $100.This has to be done before the event. The 2017 Spring Classic brochures have been mailed. If you are in interested in fishing our tournament, contact our tournament director Scott Samuels for information or an application. All applications post marked by April 20 th will be in our drawing for their starting positions. It is my opinion that this will fill either by the drawing date or right after. So if you want to get in act now. The Northwood s Chapter of Muskies Inc will host the 2017 Larry Kleeba Challunge the weekend of June 17 th & 18 th. 3 Minutes from Feb. 1st Directors Meeting 3 Meeting was called to order by President Bill Jacobs at 7:07 pm Opened with the Pledge of Allegiance. Minutes: Motion to approve minutes Jim Heffner 2 nd Bob Jacobs Motion Carried Treasurer s Report: President Bill Jacobs presented the Treasurer s Report Income $2, Expenses $5, Balance $29, Motion to approve Jeff Miller 2 nd Jim Heffner Motion Carried RVP Report: Elmer Jensen reported MI Region 2 meeting on February 11 th at Washington County Fair Park. President Bill Jacobs will be attending. Jeff Miller added to the report that Ellen Wells is resigning her position of Secretary. Robert Petzke will be the new Secretary. The Gil Hamm Fund has been paid for the years ; still owe for 2014, 2015, and The amount owed is approximately $9,000. Hope to get it all paid this year. Muskies Inc. (National) has their Nonprofit standing, New Vice President of Youth is Cadin Ramsell. We should submit information of what we do for youth activities to him. New Vice President of Fisheries and Research is Jim Moore. There is approximately $16,000 available. Jeff will submit bill from the Pit Tag Readers to see if we can get some money for them. The Annual Board meeting is scheduled during the first week of March in Pittsburgh. They need to have 12 attend to have a quorum. There will be a lot of changes coming. Alliance Report: Jim Heffner reported he received an from Dave Allen in regards to the DNR seeking funds from Alliance clubs for a donation to purchase a generator for their shocking boat. The total cost for the generator is $3,300. Motion by Elmer Jensen for our club to donate $300 for the generator. 2 nd Jeff Miller Motion Carried. Raffle Tickets for the Alliance boat will be available for pick up at the Milwaukee Musky Expo. President Bill Jacobs will pick them up. Motion by Jim Heffner for our chapter to donate $100 to the Musky Clubs Alliance of Wisconsin to help purchase lures for kids fishing the Alliance. 2 nd Elmer Jensen Motion Carried. Spring Classic Report: Andy Hendrickson received a report from Scott Samuels. We have 1,000 brochures printed up. 360 have been mailed out. Please take some to distribute to other locations or hand out to people interested in signing up for the Classic. Thank you to Fred Brogle for checking into the money available from the bed tax. Dan Pudlo is in charge of the Raffles. Carol Heffner will be in charge of the Registration Table. Glenn Matula is in charge of the Judges. If you are able to help with any of these areas, please contact the person in charge. Dale Peterson will be running an ad in the Muskies, Inc. magazine. Thanks to all of you for your help. Our booth area is all set for both the Milwaukee Musky Show and the Wausau Musky Expo. We will be giving a free entry into Paul s Pro Am for each sport show. Posters are printed for the Spring Classic. Elmer Jensen draws the numbers for the starting positions. Thanks, Elmer! Dan Wojtusik presented the Champions of the Chain idea. Lionel Kliss, Scott Samuels and Dan have been working on it. A team would fish the Spring Classic and/or Paul s Pro Am and the Fall Classic to be eligible for the Champions of the Chain. Points from each tournament will be added together. The idea is to create a series, where eventually all three tournaments will have a full field. The Fall Classic is trying to find a sponsor. Motion by Jim Edwards, in the event a sponsor cannot be found, our club will donate $400 for the Series, $200 for the Spring Classic and $200 for Paul s Pro Am for the Champion of the Chain 2 nd Bob Jacobs Motion Carried More details to be worked out in regards to contestant rules and scoring. The award will be presented at the Fall Classic. Magazine Report: Article submitted. Dale Peterson will have an ad for the Spring Classic in it. Fish Report: Dale Peterson will have final report in the newsletter. Newsletter Report: No Report Correspondence: President Bill Jacobs reported none received. Andy Hendrickson sent a great Thank You letter to Outdoors Insight, Inc. for their donation of the Aqua View II for our Christmas party. Andy informed them of all the activities and projects we complete throughout the year. He thanked them for their generous donation. Youth Report: Jim Heffner had no report. Motion by President Bill Jacobs for our club to set aside $1,200 to purchase rod and reel combos for youth. 2 nd Dan Pudlo Motion Carried. Scholarship Report: Louie Dreger reported they have selected a recipient of our scholarship. This year s recipient is Kaitlyn Duhm. She is a Sophomore, majoring in Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences. Docks/Landings: Bob Jacobs reported Frozen. Banquet Report: President Bill Jacobs presented the report for Joe Koschnik. All the sponsors have been notified. We will have three different meal choices. People will have name tags to show what meal they chose. We will have a banquet meeting at 6:30 prior to our regular meeting on March 1 st. Member Outings: LOTW Sept 2 nd to 9 th. Old Business: Jeff Miller is getting information put together to make a presentation to the Chamber for the Chamber Bed Tax monies. New Business: Bob Jacobs needs assistance with the Outdoor Pursuit with high school students on Tuesday, Feb. 7 th and Tuesday, Feb. 14 th. Motion by Elmer Jenson for our chapter to pay for bait up to $60 for the Outdoor Pursuit fishing. 2 nd Jeff Miller Motion Carried. Jeff Miller pointed out we need to update our chair persons in the chapter. President Bill Jacobs stated our next meeting is March 1 st. He has Muskies, Inc. calendars for sale. Posters for the Spring Classic are available for distribution. Jim Heffner requested a Moment of Silence for our passed member Tim Muench. Our 2016 trip was a great success, great fishing (over 60 fish caught) and accommodations. The hospitality from Mike, Ann, and staff and their assistance made a very memberable trip by all. They are on Sabaskon Bay, making it much easier to get out to fish in windier conditions. You can place your deposit for the 2017 trip of $50.00 by calling Mike or Ann at Red Wing Lodge Mention that you are with the headwaters Chapter for our package arrangement. Send deposit to: Red Wing Lodge, Box 1008, Baudette, MN The package arrangement is $50.00 per night /person based on the cabin capacity. Look, The I finally Never Forgotten Honor Flight Program flies American Vets to our nation's capital all expenses paid. This weekend, one of our WWIA Muskie Chal-Lunge sponsors - Elmer Jensen - won something, was awarded a certificate for the trip! ha, ha. Elmer, a Vietnam Vet, is President of the Eagle River Guides Assn which is one of our Team Sponsors. He is, third from the left, receiving his certificate. As you can see on the certificate, a big thank you goes out to the Tiny Tap of Eagle River for raising the funds to send these Vets on the trip. Congratulations to Elmer, and a big thank you to the Tiny Tap!! Also, a big thank you to Sarah Simac. 7 7 Tim Muench, RIP We lost one of our directors and a great person in every respect of the word, Tim Muench. Tim lost his battle with cancer on Sunday Jan. 22nd. He was such a good friend and fishing partner. He was always ready to help. He fished in the Tues. Night Musky League in Eagle River and also the Thurs. Night Sayner/St. Germain Musky League. He invented and caught most of his fish on his Cow Pie bucktail. We will all miss him dearly, your editor Dale Peterson.
