Ormond JFC News President s Report Round July 2014 Congratulations to our Under 9 team coached by Brendan Lade who won the Loewe Group Lightning Carnival last Sunday which is very exciting. The winning pennant was presented at Super Sunday and received a lot of cheers from the audience. Both Under 9s teams had a great day and a lot of fun and it has been a fantastic effort by all involved in making it such a successful season well done! Good luck to the Under 10s who have their Lightning Carnival this weekend and who knows we may also come away with another pennant but either way we are all proud of the players. So this weekend marks the end of the Home and Away Season for all teams Under 11-17s. With so many teams in finals preparations are now underway for the next few weeks. The finals fixtures are now out and we have met with Team Officials from all sides who are likely to make finals. If you have any questions regarding finals then please direct them to your Coach or Team Manager and if they don't know they will ask our Club Secretary Belinda Johnson. Enjoy and Go Monders Kerri Rolfe President Ormond Junior Football Club We are also currently planning for our team presentations. Information has already been sent out to team officials and preparations are underway for setting dates and times. All presentations will be held in age groups so keep your eye out for information about when these will be held. Thank you to everyone who came along to last week s Super Sunday - a great time was had by all which is reflected in the pictures (see next page). I only have one comment to make, am I that short or are we starting to breed them taller at Ormond?

Under 9 Navy had a great Lightning Carnival winning all three matches. In the first game as the boys were constantly hemmed in by the opposition on the smaller than usual ground, they found themselves trailing at half time. Fortunately after the break with the coach s encouragement to dispose of the ball quickly, the boys started creating leading play and were able to chalk up their first win of the carnival. The second game the boys continued to follow the coach s advice from the first game. They really began to adapt to the smaller ground and managed to find space, kick goals and notch up a convincing win. With one game to go the boys were up against Brighton Beach who had recorded a win and a loss. Brighton Beach put on a ripper of a first half which had them two goals up. With the game and premiership in the balance the coaches half time message was simple - If you want the ball go get it. This encouragement enabled the boys to pull away from Brighton Beach to record their third win. Enough to secure the Lightning Carnival pennant! A great day and a great year has been had by all! It a grand old flag, it s a high flying flag..
A Word from Your Trainers Cracked (Fractured)Teeth There is no way to treat a cracked tooth. You need to see your dentist. Sometimes the tooth looks fine, but it hurts only when you eat or when the temperature in your mouth changes (because you drank something hot or cold, for example). If your tooth hurts all the time, it may have a damaged nerve or blood vessels. This is a serious warning sign. You will know if you have a cracked tooth if it does not hurt to bite on the tooth, but pain occurs when you release the bite. BrokenTeeth If you have a broken tooth, see your dentist as soon as possible. Your dentist can figure out if the break was caused by a cavity, and if the tooth's nerve is in danger. A damaged nerve usually will require root canal treatment. Until you get to the dentist's office: Rinse your mouth well with warm water. Apply pressure with a piece of gauze on any bleeding areas for about 10 minutes or until the bleeding stops. If this doesn t work, use a tea bag with pressure on the area to stop the bleeding. Apply a cold pack to the cheek or lips over the broken tooth. This will help reduce swelling and relieve pain. If you can't get to your dentist right away, cover the part of the tooth that is in your mouth with temporary dental cement. You can find this at a drugstore. Take an over-the-counter pain reliever. Ormond is Hosting a Lightning Carnival and these Girls Need Your Help! Introducing you to Zoe Hille pictured left (sister of Jackson U15s) and Eve Elsassers (sister of Claude U14 ) and Maddy Hille (not pictured) who are now running our canteen that raises money which goes back to the club. As OJFC is hosting Week 1 Finals games on Sunday, 10 August 2014 for the U16 and U17 matches we need assistance with Canteen and BBQ as well as Ground Set Up in the morning and afternoon. If you can help please Belinda secretary@ormondjfc.com.au.
Have you thought about joining the OJFC Committee? We are always looking for extra help and fresh ideas. Many of our committee are thinking of moving on over the next couple of years as their children come to the end of their playing days at Ormond JFC so it is time for some new faces. Being on the OJFC Committee is a great way to be involved however if that s not for you, we also have many sub-committee and smaller roles that do not require as much time commitment. What areas could you help with? Maybe it is Football Operations, Fixture Co-ordinator, Super Sunday, Presentations and Photos, Website content, Social Media, Sponsorships and Marketing, Age Group Co-ordinator... the list goes on and on. Also you may feel that there is something that is missing that could add to the improvement of the club so we would love to hear your thoughts. Send us an at enquiries@ormondjfc.com.au and look out for the AGM notice in coming weeks. We look forward to hearing from you. Everyone can add value to this wonderful club! PLAYERS, OFFICIALS AND SPECTATORS BEHAVIOUR DURING ALL GAMES AS WELL AS FINALS A WORD FROM THE SMJFL GENERAL MANAGER I remind all Clubs again that it is not the role of the umpire to maintain the behaviour of players this, under SMJFL By-laws 16.6 ( It shall be the responsibility of coaches to maintain team discipline and to instruct the players to play within the rules and spirit of the game at all times ), is the responsibility of the coach. Failure to do so will result in the coach being sanctioned which may include a suspension or accreditation citation. I would also like to remind all Clubs that it is the responsibility of the Umpires' Escorts to address issues of behaviour from your spectators towards the umpires, as per SMJFL By-laws ("Umpires Escorts shall be responsible for addressing issues involving the behaviour of their team s spectators towards the umpires"). Failure to do so will result in both the Umpires' Escort and the Club being sanctioned. I seek the support of your Cub to disseminate this message to the relevant team officials (especially coaches) in an effort that the final round can be played in the best of spirits - where all players only have eyes for the ball and teams officials show integrity and constraint. Good luck to all. Regards, Jake McCauley General Manager South Metro Junior Football League
Playing 100 Games is an awesome effort. Not only is it a great personal achievement and shows strong commitment to the Ormond Junior Football Club but it also highlights their commitment to the team as a whole. Congratulations to the five of you, with another 100 gamer to come this week.

Ormond U9 West Lightning Carnival Participants Ormond U9 Navy Lightning Carnival Premiers Ormond U10 Blue played St Peters Ormond U10 West played Bentleigh Round 13 Match Reports Ormond U11 North Brown defeated Cheltenham Ormond U12 Brown defeated East Brighton Goal Kickers: A Corke 3, A Richardson 2, K Heitlinger 2, L O Brien 2, S Hankin, K Stewart F Johnson J Hunt H Ritchie What a great way to farewell EE Gunn 2 by playing our game style on our terms and more importantly playing four quarters of football two weeks in a row. What was also very satisfying was that every player stood up this week! We got off to a great start and this year when we win the first quarter we win the game. So remember we must start well and be switched on as soon as the ball is bounced. Let s keep this form going and ensure we train hard and the results will come every week!! Mathew Wood, Coach Ormond U12 Blue defeated Dingley Ormond U13 Div lost to Murrumbeena Goal Kickers: B. Putamorsi 2, K. Edwards Best Players: B. Putamorsi, L. Jenkins, L. Strooper, S. O'Connor, J. Clark The game started with strong, well-directed tap outs from Joel Clark, a hard but fair bump from Sam (who quickly gathered up his opponent to ensure he was ok) and an awesome mark by Corey, capped off by a well-directed kick to Kyle who managed to bang home the goal, despite dropping the mark. In the second quarter Adean Acer Gordon was back from his break, running hard, doing his regular in and under work, gathering the ball and remaining steadfast in the Ormond backline. Sam and Olli were being fired upon frequently by the opponent forward line, but stood strong. Apparently Darc had a sore finger in the third quarter which enabled him to execute a one handed mark- lil bit of fancy. Aedan continued his fearless pack action. The final quarter saw a solid mark by Aedan, great delivery to Corey, who was too fast and smooth (not for the first or last time either) for his opponent, launching into our forward line. Sam O stayed solid in our back line. Kirstie Edwards Ormond U14 Div defeated East Brighton Ormond U14 Div defeated Beaumaris Goal Kickers: Bodsworth 5, Mahon 4, Matheou 2, Harty 2, Calabrese 2, Whiting 2, 1 Raymond, 1 McKay Best Players: Raymond, Mahon, Matheou, Bodsworth Ciampoli The boys were pumped and wanted to make amends from last week s effort, which they did and at the first change they were 16 points up great stuff! In the second quarter the boys looked like they were there to play with the ball moving into our forward 50 on a regular basis with multiple forward targets slotting home 6 points. By the third quarter Ormond was playing with confidence switching the play regularly, run and carry, and looking for targets and by the end of the quarter they were 60 points up. The final siren saw Ormond have a decisive win well done boys, a great win. Dominic Calabrese Ormond U15 Div lost to Hampton Ormond U15 Div lost to Beaumaris
Ormond U16 Div defeated Mordialloc Braeside Windy conditions similar to the last time Ormond played Mordialloc ensured that this was going to be an interesting game! Mordialloc had the tail wind advantage in the first quarter and our boys did an awesome job defensively keeping them to just 3 goals 2 points. Harrison Burt got our first point on the score board and he continued to play strong football throughout the quarter. Ethen Hanley kicked a fantastic goal after breaking out of the centre and out running his opponents. Jonny O Connor scored our second goal with some great assistance from Reuban. James Van Oosten got our next point followed by Max Schepisi who was strong in tackling throughout the quarter. In the second quarter Ormond stepped up the attack with a blistering 5 goals to Mordiallocs 2 goals. They moved the ball really well and took full advantage of the wind. Max led the way with 12 possessions and 2 goals. Jonny O Connor also kicked 2 great goals, Rueben kicked a goal and continued his strong form as did Harry Burt. In the third quarter Mordialloc came out fighting. They had the wind in their favour and they were determined to take advantage of it. Luckily for us their kicking accuracy wasn t too good and they finished the quarter with 3 goals 5 points. Had they been more accurate, the final result may have been different. Our boys kept up the pressure in defence with Harry Burt driving the ball back again and again. Mordialloc kept us to just 2 points in that quarter so at that stage of the match it was anyone s game. Max had another solid quarter and they soon began to tag him which kept him out of the play a bit in the final quarter. However the boys kept the pressure on. Ethan, Jack, Matt, Zach, Ryan, Jonny and Tom all contributed to a tough third quarter. The last quarter saw Ormond finish with three great goals kicked by Jack, Jonny and Scotty. Mordialloc managed just 1 point. It was an unforgiving wind! James Van Oosten was effective with his kicking and tackles. Harrison, Ethan Hanley, Lachy, Scotty, Ruben and Zach all contributed to a great finish for Ormond. Brian Schepisi Ormond U16 Div lost to East Brighton Ormond U17 Div defeated East Malvern
