Ormond JFC News President s Report 24 April 2014 Welcome to the First Edition of the Ormond JFC News for The season got off to a great start with a beautiful sunny day let's try and remember that come July- and great performances on the field, coming away with many wins for the day. The highlight for me was watching the Under 12 Blue team in an impromptu kids versus parents match (after a late withdrawal by the opposition). Coach Damian swapped his coaching bib for an umpiring one for the day and watched as his kids outplayed their parents using the skills he has taught them. Luckily for the kids they had youth on their side and came out of the match injury free. Unfortunately the same cannot be said for the parents - the end result was some sore and sorry adults, a lot of blood, a broken nose and a cheek bearing a tooth mark, but still a lot of laughter. Given the way the school holidays fell with Easter this year it meant the build-up and momentum that was had on that first weekend was put on ice for a couple of weeks. Unfortunately in order to be able to play as many rounds as possible this year the season needed to commence the first weekend of the school holidays. Next year we will be back to business as usual without the interruptions. This year has also brought with it a new set of modified rules for our Under 9s and 10s. Despite some very mixed feelings about the implementation prior to the start of the season the feedback from the first week was largely very positive and was well received by most people. The modified rules and the decision to not have scores for Under 9s and 10s matches was made by the South Metro Junior Football League (SMJFL) after an extensive study undertaken by the AFL and Deakin University. The SMJFL guided by the findings of this study, which focused on player enjoyment, have subsequently adopted most of the recommendations within. Member clubs will be provided the opportunity for feedback to the SMJFL at the end of the season. A highlight of the Ormond JFC social calendar this year is our Bogan Bingo social night on Saturday, 14 June If you have not already, get your flannelette shirts, your desert boots and duffle coats out for what promises to be a politically incorrect, laugh a minute, altogether grouse night. I hope you enjoy reading the rest of the newsletter. I want to take this opportunity to thank Caroline Dunlop, long time Ormond follower and mother of one of our Under 15s players for putting her hand up to be Editor in Chief of the Ormond JFC News. Great work Caroline. We Are Ormond Kerri Rolfe
A Little Bit of History... It has been 36 years since Under 15s Coach Michael Oaten and Team Manager Malcom Roach were last in the same Ormond team and it is great that they are back together again. An interesting point regarding this photo of Ormond U17s 1978 is that three players went on to play senior VFL football. If you know who they are and you are the first person to see either Michael or Malcom at Super Sunday this week they will buy you a drink of your choice! 1 st Super Sunday This Sunday, 27 April pm Super Sundays are a great opportunity to mingle and get to know each other. Bring the family along to share the experience and get to know other families of the Ormond Junior Football Club Community. Bring along some change for the SS Raffle which is drawn at 5.30pm. Helper Required There are always great prizes to be won at Super Sunday and as the wonderful Claire Barton is heading overseas we need someone to coordinate the prizes and selling of the tickets. If you can take over this role please contact Claire clairebarton49@hotmail.com or see her at this week s Super Sunday Diary Dates Super Sundays 25 May June July 2014 A Very Social Night Bogan Bingo Saturday, 14 June 2014 Team Photos 25 May and 1 June 2014 Queen s Birthday/No Game 8 June 2014
Is coming to Ormond JFC but what IS Bogan Bingo... Half game show,. Half party. That s how many describe it. One Bingo caller calls out the numbers and his budding DJ plays songs from the 80's and 90's that rhyme with those numbers. Throw in some jokes, tributes and spontaneous air guitar competition and you'll soon see why Bogan Bingo is such a hit with folks of all ages. Organise your sitter and dig deep in your wardrobe to dress your ultimate Bogan because on Saturday, 15 June 2014 you will be playing your finest air guitar ever at Ormond JFC s first Bogan Bingo Night!! Details on how to book your tickets to follow. Ormond Junior Football Club greatly appreciates and thanks our Sponsors
Ormond U9 West played Bentleigh Ormond U9 Navy played St Peter s Round 1 Match Reports Ormond U10 Blue played St Peter s Ormond U10 West played Caulfield BEARS M.Clarkson 3, C.Hankin 1, Q. Glen 1 M. Clarkson, Q.Glen Let me start by saying congratulations to all the Mums and Dads for the effort put in to ensure the boys are healthy and happy - anyone would think the peptides are working given their size and endurance displayed today (few growth spurts). The boys were pumped and it showed getting plenty of the ball early and kicking 2 goals in the first quarter to lead. The Team adapted well to the modified rules, and the opposition were rattled and finding it hard to make space. Although scoreless in second and third quarters, the boys continued to focus on playing their position and maintained a winning attitude. The sugar rush kicked in a little later than usual, and the team posted 3 goals in the last quarter to take out the game by 23 points. What a way to start the season! Vic Marotta Ormond U11 Ormond U12 East defeated Dingley Black D.Quitt 2, H. Ritchie 2, K.Stewart 2, J. Hunt 2, A.Corke 1, H.Mahon 1, S.Hankin 1, M.Gori 1 S.Wood, A.Corke, M.Gori, H. Mahon, K.Stewart, H.Ritchie I was very impressed with our first match and the effectiveness of the boys to implement our game day plans. Our new players Will Nash, Angus Corke and Max Green all added significant value to our team and the improvement in our existing players was 'very' exciting to watch. Dingley were always going to be a big test following their promotion into East after winning the West Grand Final. Our main advantage on the day was our even spread of contributors and we all understand that good team's never rely on four or five players. Our number one focus each week is our tackling and we clearly won the tackles 77 versus 56. We look forward to our next challenge away this week against East Sandringham! Matthew Wood Ormond U12 Blue - Bye Ormond U13 Div lost to Oakleigh D. Spackman 3 D. Spackman, J. Hackett Close start to Round 1 of the season and other than a period of five minutes where we allowed the opposition to kick three quick goals, the boys were able to hold, and even, out-perform our opposition on the day. This was evident by us keeping Oakleigh scoreless for the second half of the game but unfortunately we were not quite good enough to catch up and pass the Oakleigh score on the day. Pleasing to see some good team skills developing amongst the boys with some good examples of a running game being displayed by the team. Mark Jenkins

Paine A very good team performance enabled us to overcome a depleted Dingley side, all players made a contribution as we welcomed ten new players to our team from last season, eight players new to the club as well as Team Manager Mal Roach, a former Ormond player from yesteryear. We were led well by Captain for the day in Lachlan Kiely, big men Wilkins and Fletcher gave us first use of the ball, whilst Azzolini and Paine capitalised on their dominance. Olly Smith repeated round one goal scoring as per last year and Paul Pekaj relished in his new on ball role, Harper Vowles made a memorable comeback after missing a few years, whilst Dilletosso, Northey & Delia were solid hard workers. We look forward to our next game, albeit Rd 3 after a bye in Rd 2. Michael Oaten Ormond U16 Div defeated St Paul s McKinnon Ormond U16 Div defeated St Bede s Ormond U17 Div defeated Waverley Park M. Bartholomeusz Wow what a start to the season after the disappointment of only winning one match last year. It was a great team win with solid contributions from everyone. This year has seen a number of new players to Ormond as well as a few returning ones. We welcome them all and it is great to see our numbers so strong. With so much depth Ormond U17s will be a force to be reckoned with this year. Bring on Round 2! Interesting in Contributing to the Newsletter?
