They are all a credit to our club and contribute greatly to making this place operate efficiently. So all you blokes out there I m sure you don t need me to remind you to acknowledge on Mothers Day, the contribution your good ladies make to your family. To all our players - make sure you tell Mum how much you appreciate and love her on this special day. Mums are the ones who get you organised and up and running for a game and provide you with nice clean footy gear. They are all proud of you - so you show them how proud you are of them on Mothers Day.

2 Page 2 PRESIDENTS REPORT Grading games are behind us as we now get into Season I was fortunate to attend Auskick on April 28 th and was amazed by the numbers of little legs running around out there (it was also great to see the many junior players helping out) Brad, Mick and the other handsome Auskick assistants do an excellent job, giving these kids a solid foundation of footy skills to move onto Under 9 s and beyond. This really got me thinking about where to from here for the Eagles with such numbers coming through, how do we accommodate them and grow and develop into a successful Club of the future? The Committee has decided to look at a 5 year plus plan for this, expansion of grounds and facilities and what options are available to be pro-active as a Club any input would be very welcome and I invite anyone interested to our next committee meeting Infrastructure Spending - Exciting news that we have approved an electronic scoreboard design and supplier, many years of hard work by past committees and the generous support of our Sponsors have allowed us to be in the financial position to do this, mindful that we have not increased registration costs for the past 3 seasons. It will allow for more promotion of our sponsors on Senior & Junior Game Days and an income stream through rental to The Show Society, Country Music Festival and other community events (proposals and romantic gestures by arrangement!). Delivery and installation will be approx eight to ten weeks away so watch the scoreboard space. Trivia Nite -Tickets are on sale and sales have been brisk, so make some phone calls now and get your table sorted our Social Crew are specialists in having a good time, some great entertainment planned and David Schwartz will be there too. Canteen- Great work by the awesome peep s that have assisted Leanne in the canteen in the past weeks. This is a great way to contribute to development of a new canteen and covered viewing area without having to put your hand in your pocket. As a thank you to one of our most hard-working Mums (with the most offspring!) we are giving Leanne Sunday off, so will need the coffee makers to help me make this happen (understand fixture needs to be finalised so we know where games are, any assistance would be great) We will also be selling flowers on Sunday close to the canteen, thanks to the Bateman family for their generous support. U16 s & U17 s These teams have been playing some great footy, I encourage you all to get down to the Club and check out an afternoon game, they really appreciate the home crowd behind them. Happy Mothers Day to all the footy Mums. Megan Beattie - President

3 Page 3 AUSKICK - ROUND 3 REPORT Great to see we had nearly everyone back again this week & the weather was perfect for it once again. All the kids seem to be having a ball - the fresh coffee sure seems to be a hit with the spectators. Thanks again to all our helpers old & new, you do a fantastic job. Next week we have our Mother s day round so please Mums, don t ask for a sleep in or to be pampered with breaky in bed & all that guff, come down & enjoy a fresh coffee & a nice hot egg & bacon roll straight off the grill! Also, there will be free scones for all the Mums for Mothers Day. So come on down & bring the family. All siblings are welcome to join in, so jump in & get amongst the action, you ll love it Best Players: Under 10 & 11 players for their screamers on the bag with Aaron Goal Kickers: Coffee Machine and the Egg & Bacon Rolls MATCH REPORTS - ROUND 4 UNDER 9 Blue Whittlesea v Mernda Blue Another tough match, it was great to see the majority of our players staying in their positions. We are noticing improvement of playing as a team and helping our team mates out. It is important that all players come to training on Fridays at 5.00pm. Congratulations to Callum & Jackson McPartlane on their first game. Go Eagles!!! UNDER 9 Gold Whittlesea v West Preston Blue Congrats to Will Brennan on his first game for the club. We played against a Very Good West Preston team on Sunday. To the boys credit there was not one player who gave in throughout the entire game. Let`s all get down to Keon Park this week and have a whole lot of fun (make it a special one for Mum) Go Eagles. UNDER 10 Whittlesea def. by Mernda Whittlesea Physiotherapy 77 Church Street, Whittlesea Disappointing loss this week one that really got away. We were really evenly matched in size & skill but unfortunately it wasn t to be. We have a lot to learn in the tactical side of our game but rest assured it will happen. We are starting to listen in well & we are training better than ever, so with that basis, all we need now is to put our plans into action & we will be unstoppable. Keep your chins up boys we re not far away. Phone Best Players: Braydon Smith, Riley Kennedy, Matt Cochrane, Will Knipe, Zac Wright, Conner Miller Goal Kickers: Braydon Smith, Kieran McMahon

4 MATCH REPORTS - ROUND 4 Page 4 UNDER 11 (Gold) Whittlesea def. by Yarrambat Good game played by all the boys, we are improving a lot which is a good thing. We have all the parents behind us. We just need to listen and we will get a win. Thanks to Jesse, Keidan and Pat from the Blue team for coming along and playing for us. UNDER 11 (Blue) Whittlesea def. Mill Park Last week we had a great game and we asked the team to work on some keys areas to continue improvement. This week they came out and showed how well they listen, putting in a fantastic team effort. Playing with 17 due to a late withdrawal, the boys were tough at the ball, moved it around well with hand and foot, and were excellent both defensively and in attack. Again we still have a couple of skills to improve on to show that we can continue to get better. The effort was even more rewarding due to the fact that every player put in to get this win. UNDER 12 Whittlesea def. by South Morang Well it probably was from a coaches point of view the best 4 quarter effort for the year. Playing the top side is always hard but I thought our pressure we put on them was fantastic. Our clearance work was good, our backline worked well together and our 3 goals came from all of us chipping in to get the ball forward. Great effort, lets keep it up for next weeks game against Mill Park. Best Players: Kyle Smith, Liam McMahon, Stevie Alabakis, Nick Russell, Kaleb Burns, Brodie Noble Goal Kickers: Tristen Rodrigues (2), Nick Russell UNDER 13 Whittlesea def. by Wallan TEAM SPONSOR NEEDED A great way to promote your business Please contact Sue Russell or Leanne Bland to discuss listing your business here. - cr.plum@bigpond.net.au Tough day at the office - Wallan was too big, too strong. We tried hard, tackled well made some good plays. Lachie was good again when he went forward. Paul, Bailey L and Joel did some good things down back. Nathan, Rhys and Jezza ran hard trying to make space. The usual suspects - Blake and Brandyn tackled their hearts out. Alex and Kayne tried hard but were always under siege. Now the real stuff starts. Let s lift our intensity and make our aim a place in the finals Best Players: Blake Watson, Brandyn Burgess, Bailey Caldow, Nathan Murray, Paul Rudd, Joel Naylor Goal Kickers: Joel Naylor, Lachlan Osborne

5 MATCH REPORTS - ROUND 4 Page 5 UNDER 14 Whittlesea def. Montmorency We struggled for the first 3 quarters being only in front by 3 points at the start of the last quarter. This really shows that we can t get ahead of ourselves. We need to respect every team we play and we need to do the basics better than any other team. Best Players: Presti, (Captain) Raz, Matty C, Tiza, Clancy, Connor, Fitzy, Northy Goal Kickers: Bateman 2, Clancy 2, Razz 1, Presti 4, Scooter 1, Matt C 3, UNDER 16 Whittlesea def. by Diamond Creek Losing is gut wrenching knowing that we were all over them in the first half. We worked very hard winning most clearances, our tackle count and our shepherds increased by tenfold. We can mix it with the best easy - our back line week by week is becoming stronger taming the monkeys. Our forward line needs to learn to create more space for the presenters. To say we got no positives out of the loss couldn t be further from the truth. We cleared more than half of the ball ups through the centre We had plenty of runs that created the ball to move from backline to forward line in a short space of time. Believe me we are going to be a big threat in this grade once we all become one. It s just a simple game of who wants to win more - the improvement from 6 weeks ago to now is enormous and it will only get better The harder we work the luckier we will get we are both very proud of all of you to get to where we are now, but don t get complacent. There is more work to be done... Goal Kickers: Nathan Taylor 4, Joel Clarke 1, Josh Walker 1 UNDER 17 Whittlesea def. by South Morang JC s Pizza Proud Sponsors of the Whittlesea Junior Football Club Under 17 Team in 2012 Even though we lost by ten goals we didn t give up. We need to fix up a few bad skill errors that let us down. This week let s have a crack! Goal Kickers: THANK YOU TO OUR 2012 SPONSORS

7 Page 7 The Ladies of Whittlesea (hard at work!) Doing a good job Andrea keeping the boys dressing gown warm for them! A Letter of Thanks from Leanne Thanks to all the ladies who helped in the canteen last Sunday. Vicky, Laura and Belinda started off the morning with Laura turning her hand at the coffee machine and trying to knock Queen Barrista Pauline off her perch. Becky, Christine, and Priscilla (who came after her match ) thank you. Joey and Jazz had long stints again, and Sarah and Caitlyn jumped in when the going got hectic. Chris Russell got into the chip making again and still reigns as the chip king, Pauline went from coffee machine to chip machine in an honourable attempt to also possess the King of the chips crown. Tania, Kelli and Caroline stepped up to the plate later in the day and all were fabulous. Kirsty and Shanae came in after their game again also. Thanks to Sue and Helen who are there most of the day also, and Megan always helps out for the busy periods. The response of volunteers is building momentum and we are really thrilled with the amount of help from parents. Hopefully it's a fun time in the canteen for people and it's a great way to get to know other people as well as help your local Footy Club. If I have missed anyone I'm really sorry, there was a great number of helpers. Also a big thanks to those people who have helped out in previous weeks and a special mention to Romina for the scones a couple weeks ago. Cheers Everyone - Leanne Bland Whittlesea at the M.C.G. Boys from the Under 10 s & 11 s were lucky enough to take partake in the Little League match at the M.C.G. last Saturday, when the Mighty Hawks took on and beat the Saints :) All the boys enjoyed the experience of playing for the St Kilda footy club in front of some 42,000 people at the home of footy. Something they should remember for a long time. Many thanks to Robyn Knipe for the photos of the boys in action.

8 Page 8 Club Mascot Report Bit of a wet day last Saturday for Max Russell & Kane Johnson who got to escort the Seniors out for their game against Montmorency. Judging from the photos it didn t dampen their enthusiasm! Next boys on the roster for Saturday the 12th of May are Liam Newport & Oscar Sinel, when the Seniors take on West Preston-Lakeside. Under 10 s Coach Brad explaining the game plan during the U/10 s last round match against Mernda. It was the close game of the round for Whittlesea teams, with the boys going down by the barest of margins. See the match report for details. (Thanks to Robyn Knipe for this photo)

Answer in next issue of the Raptor They both follow the Mighty Hawks and made their debut for the Eagles in 2008 (which was coincidentally the year the Mighty Hawks won the flag) Have both notched up over 50 games for the Eagles and I hear that Cyril Rioli is looking over his shoulder, as these 2 play a similar style of game to him and are regarded by Cyril as a double threat to his place in the Hawks lineup!
