1 Pennant Hills Bowling Club Newsletter 49, 30 November 2017 News from the Men s Club What happened? Prowse mixed bowls event Generously sponsored by Roxanne Prowse Roxanne Prowse and her late husband, John, have been strong supporters of the both the Men's and Women's clubs over many years, and this year was no exception. A fantastic day with a great turn-out from both clubs rewarded many, many of the players, and all benefited from the sponsor s largesse. Men's Handicap Pairs sponsored by Uniting Wirreanda Aged Care Was held on Saturday 25 November and won by no small margin by Ralph George and Mark Fisher. Ralph s match report was over 1000 words so would not fit here. He will happily fill in the details if anyone cares to ask.

Christmas mixed event! A mixed mufti day to is be held on Tuesday 12 th December. Welcome all you men! Christmas theme e.g. Xmas shirts hats etc., the more tinsel the better. Cost $18.00.

Cost $ Morning tea at 9.30am, play to commence at 10.00am. Men's Christmas Function This event is on Saturday 9 December Members will be able to play either in the morning or the afternoon, or both, and are welcome for lunch only. Lunch will be partaken in the interval, being served at around 12.00, followed by the presentation. It s a uniform event, the morning game starting with cards called at To assist with catering, please add your name to the sheet on the notice board by Wednesday 6 December. Committee news Extraordinary General Meeting for Men's Club A reminder that this meeting is to be held on Saturday 2 December 2017, commencing at am in the auditorium. The purpose of the meeting is to consider a number of motions pertaining to the constitution, and a proposed change to the uniform. Those motions, and the background papers, are posted on the Pennants notice board, and have previously been ed to all members. A good attendance is requested, and it will be an opportunity to stay on and play in the afternoon, for those who are not regular Saturday players.

Unfortunately not as many friends from other Clubs were there on this day as Beecroft Club had their Friendship Day on the same day, however still lots of fun and friendship.

4 News from the Women s Club Committee news Hi all, this will be the last newsletter from the Women s Club for the year Friendship Day was a great day, the ladies had lots of fun on the green, much laughter and fun, two teams in particular were given a noise warning! Unfortunately not as many friends from other Clubs were there on this day as Beecroft Club had their Friendship Day on the same day, however still lots of fun and friendship. Presentation Day was held on Thursday 9 November, this was again a very special day to celebrate and acknowledge the efforts of our fellow lady bowlers who have achieved success on the green during the year. We also acknowledge the many sponsors who have made it possible to provide monetary prizes for all Championship Events. On the day we were joined by Mr. Barry Wilson, President and Directors Mr Warren Evans and Mr Peter Harrington who joined us for lunch. Thank you gentlemen for taking the time to share this special day. Most Consistent Non-Pennant Player Winner: Julie Barker Most Improved Player, in memory of Joan McNamara and Betty Hardy. Championship Winners Our Ham and Turkey Carnival, sponsored by Richard and Helen Perkins, was held on Monday 20 November.

Clubs and Spades caused some confusion, especially for the editor! At the end of the day many ladies went home happy with hams and turkeys. Thanks again Richard and Helen.

They all met at St James Station, where Di gave them a history lesson on this heritage listed construction, with its network of historic train platforms, tunnels and tracks that are now not used.

6 Championship Winners Our Ham and Turkey Carnival, sponsored by Richard and Helen Perkins, was held on Monday 20 November. Unfortunately the weather was not in our favour, after about an hour of play the rain fell and we were called in to play our favourite card game Hoy. Lots of fun once we all got the rules clear! The Outing to Parliament House on Wed 22nd Nov was a great day for those who went along. They all met at St James Station, where Di gave them a history lesson on this heritage listed construction, with its network of historic train platforms, tunnels and tracks that are now not used. From there we took a short walk through Hyde Park, the oldest Park in Australia with its 500 trees. Across the road was St Mary's Cathedral and, religious or not, this was worth a visit, the stained glass windows are simply amazing. The Cathedral is getting a face lift just now to celebrate its 150 year anniversary next year. Some of us chose to have lunch in the Bakehouse cafe attached to Hyde Park Barracks, which is World Heritage listed: others chose to have lunch in another nearby cafe. Eventually we ended up in Parliament House to observe from the public gallery. We viewed the Chambers in session and it proved that our so called Parliamentary representatives are no better than naughty children, with their unbelievable behaviour towards each other in the Bear Pit', an absolute eye opener for us all. We did however get a mention by Madam Speaker before the session started, who welcomed the Pennant Hill Women's Bowling Club to the House. Coming Events. The concert will commence at 11.00am, the doors of the Club will be opened at This will give the ladies plenty of time to decorate their tables. The table list is on the board; still time to put your name down for this great day! It will be the last day of play for the ladies in 2017, but the men s club are extremely happy and welcoming for ladies to play on any Friday and Saturday. Back to bowls Tuesday 9 th January 2018 Pennants next year will be commencing early February This year will be a new experience for all our Pennant Ladies, having joined our new District: Mitchell. Our club will have Grade 1, Grade 2 and a Grade 4.
