Major Pairs Sponsored by Travel By Design Semi-final results K Sullivan & T Yard 21 J Brown & T Rae 13 P Briggs & L Herbert 22 M Ryan & G Havron 19 In this Semi-final, Phil Briggs and Laurie Herbert played Michael Ryan and Gary Havron. Michael and Gary got away to a great start and by end 9 were leading 13 3, but then Phil and Laurie fought back, winning 8 of the next 10 ends to bring the score to 19 13, just down but in sight of a win. (Whoa, six up, two ends to go, you d think it was in the bag! Quelle horreur). On the 20 th end Phil and Laurie scored an 8, (When did that ever happen? Give them a medal!) giving them a 2 shot lead going in to the last end. So Michael and Gary were holding 3 shots and the win, one bowl each to come, but with his last bowl Laurie drew a resting toucher on the backhand to take the end, and the game (Sure, Laurie wrote this, and thanks for his contribution, but he down-played his own brilliant finish without placing too much emphasis on the other team s total collapse. Sob). [Ed was in the losing team] The Final Tony Yard and Kel Sullivan met Phil Briggs and Laurie Herbert under ideal weather conditions The game was evenly contested for the first 9 ends with the score at 6 apiece. But then Tony and Kel scored a 6, and carried on with some first class bowling to dominate the game. They won 9 of the next 10 ends to reach victory with the last 2 ends not required to be played. Tony and Kel had a well-earned win 31-7

3 What s coming up? Championships Pretty quiet on the Championships front, what with the Pennants season getting under way this weekend. The Minor Singles is the next to be played, starting this Sunday, and then the Triples, with entries opening in two months. News from the Women s Club Last week the final of the Major Club Singles was played. Sponsored by Heather and Terry Rae. The finalists were Bev Fairbairn and Ruth Low. The final score was 25 to 9 with Ruth Low winning the match. Congratulations Ruth. Finalists Bev Fairbairn, marker President Margaret Hegarty and Ruth Low.

4 The first round of the Club fours began on Tuesday this week, with eight teams entered. Sponsored by Margaret Dellow. The final will not be played till the 10 th May due to district competitions scheduled for the next two weeks. Coming events: Quarterly meeting Tuesday 1 st May after bowls or if inclement weather 10.00am. Anglicare Autumn Carnival: Monday 28 th May. Entry forms on the board. The Club had a record crowd of 92 at Trivia last Thursday evening. Always a fun night but you need to book a table.
