1 Pennant Hills Bowling Club Newsletter 64, 27 September 2018 News from the Women s Club Well here we go again, Newsletter No. 2. Firstly, a special hello from me to all the gentlemen in the Men s Club!!!! This is my first newsletter with you. Welcome to our Secret Women s Business The final of our Graded Fours was played on Thursday 20 September A cold & damp day but that didn t stop the great bowls played by both teams. The winners on the day were Barbara Crossman, Maree Jones, Faye Brown & Cath Foster over Julie Ortlepp, Lynne Lockwood, Carol Husband & Margaret Hegarty. Final score was 22 to 12. Congratulations girls. Well done to all. Pictured: Cath Foster, Faye Brown, Maree Jones, Barbara Crossman. Monday 24 September 2018 saw the Ladies Club host a Fashion Parade by Staffords Fashions. It was great to see so many visitors attend. There was a table from the Westleigh Probus Club, Helen Perkins & Carol Husband with friends & Pat Holden also brought along her granddaughter. The club was also given 10% of the takings. Sounds like a fabulous & fun morning was had by all. This was followed by an excellent high tea from Abbeys Bistro. Looks like there may be some great outfits on display at the Christmas Party this year!!!! blunden law

Region 16 has not won this trophy since 2015 so the challenge was there & they did us proud & won 218 to 206. Congratulations Pam. I heard some terrific bowls were played.

The following players from our club have been selected to represent Mitchell District. Well done to Jenny Partridge, Pam Lowe & Ruth Low. A great honour. Good luck girls.

Sadly, I will be away for a friend s 60 th Birthday that weekend otherwise I would have joined in. Pam Lowe & Jenny Partridge have entered the Champion of Club Champion Pairs.

Also, let s not forget the mixed bowls mufti fun day to be played on Monday 1 October This is a single-entry event being organised by the Men s Club. These days are always great fun. First round to be played on Tuesday 2 October at Carlingford Bowling Club. Come down & support our girls & I m sure you will see some outstanding bowls played by all entrants. To be eligible to play in this event you must have won your Club pairs, so the standard will be excellent. Teams come from all over NSW. The table listings for our Friendship Day are now on the board. Let s invite our friends from other bowling clubs & show them just what a great & friendly club we are. News from the Men s Club What happened? Mixed Pairs championship The semi-final was played last Sunday in cool, dry conditions, bit of a sou-easter blowing.

Then Phil & Ros came home in a canter, scoring 23 points to 6 for a big win.

We have now won this prestigious event four times since its inauguration in 1991.

3 News from the Men s Club What happened? Mixed Pairs championship The semi-final was played last Sunday in cool, dry conditions, bit of a sou-easter blowing. The game of Phil & Ros versus Orma & Michael was close for the first half, reasonably high scoring with multiple points most ends, until the 11 th end. Then Phil & Ros came home in a canter, scoring 23 points to 6 for a big win. The Jenny & Warren versus Judy & John game was much closer, the margin never more than 5 points and squaring off at 18 all into the last end. The results: Phil Briggs & Roz Krempin 33 Orma Downs & Michael Ryan 22 Jenny Read & Warren Phillips 19 Judy Summerson & John Archer 18 5 Pioneer Ave Thornleigh Ph Hornsby Shire Cup This was played at Asquith and an incredible result, with Penno picking up the cup for the first time in 9 years. We have now won this prestigious event four times since its inauguration in Our club recorded the maximum number of 8 points in winning all of its 4 games The team make-up was: Singles Gary Havron Pairs Tony Yard, Kel Sullivan Triples Barry James, Warren Phillips, Jim Brown Fours Michael Ryan, Mark Fisher, Mark Kakoschke, John Archer We had mostly comfortable wins, but for the fours finishing last under the glare of all the other teams. Twenty-two all on the last, and a brilliant save for a single point win on the last bowl.
