1 Baulkham Hills Shire Netball Association Baulko Bulletin May Edition Volume 2, Issue 2
2 President's Report It is with deep sadness that I must advise you all of the passing of Mrs Pam Noble who was our inaugural President in Pam had been instrumental in the setting up of our Association together with Margaret Elder and Lorraine Everitt to name a few who were involved in forming BHSNA. These 2 Life Members also held Executive positions that first year. Pam then returned in 1985 as President for another year for BHSNA. Pam s daughter Jacqui Toy has also been a member of BHSNA and is currently residing in Victoria where she is coaching one of their top Netball League teams. Our thoughts are with Jacqui and the Noble Family at this time. The Hills Relay for Life annual walk raises funds and awareness towards the fight against cancer. The annual walk was held last weekend with quite a few supporters from our Netball community and is always a great community spirited event. Saturday May 3 was our Annual President s Morning Tea with Club Executive coming to- The June Long Weekend is the Netball NSW State Championships! gether to have a chat and a cuppa which was very welcome on such a cold day. Inside this issue President s Report 2-3 Mother s Day Market... 4 Rep Round-Up State League Photos Umpires Utterings... 6 Coaching Corner... 7 Pink Day Information... 9 Special points of interest Pink Day is happening Saturday 10 May Mother s Day Market 10 May Don t forget to Like us on Facebook: BaulkhamHillsShireNetballAssociation/timeline 2 Next Sunday we celebrate Mother s Day and for all our Mum s, Nannas or Grandmas I would like to wish you all a great Mother s Day from our extended netball community! We are hosting Mother s Day stalls on Saturday 10 May so you can find that extra special something for Mum! The June Long Weekend is the Netball NSW State Championships with the 17 years & Under 19 years & Under and the Open Divisions at Campbelltown Association Courts and we have 2 teams from Baulkham Hills competing this year in the 17 years and Under and the Opens section. We also have 2 teams competing in the Over 35 s and Over 40 s at Camden Association courts and we wish the players, and their Management teams an extremely successful, happy and safe 3 days of competitions! There will be some excellent games to watch and the teams would love to have you on their side lines cheering for them!! Make a note in your diary and Go Baulko!!! The advent of our new access road, from Withers Rd via Apple Gum Crescent and Swift Parrot Close, to our back car park open for use this year is a huge success. With some extra parking spaces provided by The Hills Shire Council, with more to follow in
3 President's Report the near future, there should be no need for our neighbours in the adjoining streets complaining of cars blocking there access but they have been phoning each Saturday. If you are parking in this area please do so with utmost care and consideration of their property or they will have no option but to phone the Police. Please allow access and remember that some of them have deliveries of a Saturday and the trucks are unable to traverse the crowded streets with care. remember we have our Spring Competition commencing in September so don t forget to ask for a registration form for your team to enjoy the beautiful spring weather and our competition. Jenny Pike President I do hope that you all enjoy your season and Please allow access and remember that some of them have deliveries of a Saturday and the trucks are unable to traverse the crowded streets with care. Have you checked out the new BHSNA website? The interface is a lot more modern looking and user friendly. 3

There are many new trophies on our display shelves at Kellyville. The countdown to State Age 2014 has begun only 7 weeks to go until the years Repre sentative Teams will play the State Age Championships at Illawarra. 8 Coaching Corner NetSetGo Program This is the name given to the introductory phase of junior netball. The program incorporates skill building activities, minor games and modified rules matches, in a fun and safe environment. At BHSNA we have 108 of our 555 teams in this 7-9 year old age group. These girls are participating in skills based activities and games that will develop their abilities and prepare them for the competitive game, complete with Semi Finals, Final and Grand Finals from age 10. Our 23 teams of players in the 7 years age group have are undertaking the biggest change. Their Saturday schedule is made up of the first two quarters being structured skill based activities focusing on getting the basics skills introduced in the right way, so that every girl is involved and ready to practice these skills in the final two quarters each week, by playing a game against another club. Our coaches of this age group are to be commended, as it takes effort to prepare a training session. Our coaches of this age group are to be commended, as it takes effort to prepare a training session. It would be very easy to just play a half court and ignore skills, but in the main this is not happening. Netball Australia have provided the skills coaching resources via the Netball NSW website search NetSetGo Resources. There is a number of training sessions of 45 minutes duration to allow progression weekly with plenty to keep the girls occupied. Under NetSetGo guidelines, week day training is not recommended by Netball Australia for this age group. The 41 teams of 8 year olds and 44 teams of 9 year olds are also building skills by playing a non- competitive game each week. Again our umpires and coaches are to be commended, as skills are explained when infringements occur during the game. In this way the players are developing and learning the rules, ready for the competitive game format when they turn 10. 8
