2 President s Report What a great start to the season, beautiful weather has greeted us for our first 3 games and competition is fierce and friendly in all grades. our season launch morning tea for all clubs executive and the official opening of our Week 1 saw the opening of our refurbished canteen with it new menu and barista coffee, thank you to everyone for supporting the Association by visiting our canteen each week. Our State League teams enjoyed a breakfast and a meet and greet with our new little netballers at 8am and to top the day off we had This year is our 40th year and we have some exciting events planned so make sure you keep you eye on our website and "LIKE" us on Facebook so you don't miss out on anything in this exciting year. Clr Jefferies also helped launch our 40th anniversary celebrations with the cutting of the cake with some of our State Representatives. Week 3 was an exciting time for us all with a visit from the Netball World and mascot Nettie and Swift Payer & English Captain Jade Clark. Many of us enjoyed getting up close and personal with the cup and having a selfie and imagining we were part of that winning team!! This year is our 40th year and we have some exciting events planned so make sure you keep you eye on our website and "LIKE" us on Facebook so you don't miss out on anything in this exciting year. Our major celebration will be a Gala Anniversary dinner at the Novotel Bella Vista on 29th August. So start organising your table to help us celebrate our great history and future!! 3 Media & Promotions What a celebrity Round 3 we had at the courts. A visit from Swifts player and the England Captain, Jade Clarke and the World Cup Trophy tour with special guest Nettie. Thanks to the crew from the World Cup team for coming an spending the morning with us, we totally enjoyed the music and the photo opportunities. A very big special thanks to Jade, who spent the morning chatting with players and supporters, taking photos and coming down and watching teams play. Our 12 Years Rep team even had a team talk at the break with her and Jade joining in the team cheer. A visit from Swifts player and the England Captain, Jade Clarke and the World Cup Trophy tour with special guest Nettie! 4 Rep Round - Up BHSNA Representative Program Juniors Junior Representative Teams years had a great bonding day in March. fun! Parents assisted in rounding out the day with a sausage sizzle for all those involved. Many thanks to Jenny Teale for organising Phil Lenehan in planning such a great day. Teams were sent on a crazy adventure and some interesting stopovers throughout the Crestwood Areas. This was our Amazing Race. Points were collected for answering questions on their surrounds. Bonus points could be scored at every checkpoint with some interesting challenges. Memories were tested, taste buds were tested, strength was tested and skill was tested. We have some amazing players in the program who showed strength, intelligence, logic and leadership throughout the day. Netball Australia Nationals wrap up Baulkham Hills was represented by players Tayla Fraser (17/U), Teegan Ryan, Emily Moore, Maddy Woods (19/U) and a coach Briony Akle Special congratulations to Tayla Fraser named in the 17 & under Australian Squad. What an awesome achievement Tayla! (19/U) at the recent National Championships held at NSW Netball Central last week. The 17/U and 19/U tournament kicked off on Tuesday 14 April and concluded with both the NSW teams playing in the Final. The 17/U went down in a close tussle to Queensland The 19/U were triumphant over Victoria in extra time! What a fantastic result for the teams. Baulko is very proud of your achievements over the week, well done all! Special congratulations to Tayla Fraser named in the 17 & under Australian Squad. What an awesome achievement Tayla! 6

7 Umpires Utterings Hello and welcome to all members who wish to improve their netball rules knowledge. Simply do the online theory test via bhsna.nsw.netball.com.au Umpiring Section 1 Theory Exam and then follow the prompts and register on the Netball Australia elearning portal. A 70% pass mark is valid for 6 years. There is no cost and a certificate is available for downloading. Umpires who wish to prepare for a National badge must hold a current Section 1 theory pass and also have done a Level 1 Umpires Education course. The Level 1 is now also available ONLINE. Enrolment instructions are located via bhsna.nsw.netball.com.au Umpiring Pathways. There is a cost of $25 for this Nationally Accredited Course. No umpire can be tested for a National level practical badge until both these prerequisites are completed. Certificates should be downloaded and presented to either Association Convenor or Club Umpire Convenor. Once you are a National badged umpire and begin your umpiring journey, special opportunities become available to you. For example, you may wish to support our representative players by umpiring at State and State Age Championship carnivals, State League and Night Interdistrict competitions. 8 Registrars Report Our winter competition has grown to 557 teams in teams inc 4 Rep teams 15 Masters, 102 Open Grade, 33 teams in 21s (150 Senior teams total) 304 Juniors (10-17) plus 103 NSG Sat teams The calendar for 2015 showing dates for each round can be found on our website bhsna.nsw.netball.com.au under Calendar. have them laminated on the window at Control. So feel free to check the table and ask the question at Control on a Saturday. Illegal borrows result in Penalty forfeits -2 points and no one wants that. So come to Control and ask the question if you are unsure. Our 9 Year olds and our 8 Year olds have divisions reflecting our association s colours - Gold, Green and Navy. No more Banksias, Grevilleas or Wattles. With a new season and new grades for 2015, there are new Borrowing Tables. Best practice is to check with your Club Registrar. ALL 7s, 8s and 9s (inc 9 Netball) play a Round Robin non competitive season that concludes with a Gala Day on Sunday August 2, which is the day after Round 14. 9 Coaching Corner On Sunday 19 April 2015 we had 15 coaches attend a NNSW accredited Foundation Coaching Course. This course was presented by Nardia Macdonald who plays in our Waratah Cup Division 1 state league team and is also the coach of our Division 3 state league team. Nardia presents an excellent course and those coaches who attended have a great day and will benefit immensely from her experience. The Foundation course is an entry level coaching course that all club coaches should consider attending. The NNSW E-Learning portal is your one-stop shop for online courses for Coaches, Umpires, Players, Bench Officials, Administrators any Members of Netball NSW! Here you can access e- learning courses from the Australian Sports Commission, Australian Institute of Nardia presents an excellent course and those coaches who attended have a great day and will benefit immensely from her experience. Sport and Netball Australia, to advance accreditation and further your knowledge in a flexible environment with real-time access to resources. For Coaches 1: The Select for Netball Success course will take you through the principles and practices of netball selection. Netball is a team game however the performance of individual athletes and the combination of athletes in playing positions is critical to the success of the team. For full course description click here for more information 2: Community Coaching General Principles Course online course (previously the Beginning Coaching General Principles) is a pre requisite for the Foundation Coaching course and has been developed to assist coaches to learn the basic skills of coaching, particularly those coaches working with children. The course is currently free of charge to Australian coaches.
