3 COMMODORE S REPORT Ray Porter It was great to see members use the Club facilities over the Christmas break, the ramps, finger pens, BBQ s and camping areas. Please remember that the Club has a variety of groups that you can participate in. Groups such as the Mid Week Group, Busy Bee Group, Diving Group and the Sport Fishing Group, all will make you feel welcome and encourage you to join them. It does not appear at this stage the weather for this year will be much different than the last few years, those strong howling southerlies. Check the weather before you leave to head to the Club. The weather reports can change quickly sometimes and your plans for the boat trip may need to change to suit. We can only sit and wait for the Autumn weather to arrive where we have those lovely balmy days where you can sit back and really enjoy your outing. Things are continuing along at the Club as usual and finally the hardstand area is becoming operational. We may have a few teething problems to sort out but with the first inclusion of about a dozen boats we can review and change the set out as necessary. Once this has been sorted others will be able to follow. Don t panic if your name is on the list for this area and you have not been contacted yet, we need to do this in an organised manner as mentioned above. Those that have been contacted need to sign their agreement and return it quickly to the office or their position will be offered to the next person on the list. If you have any queries please contact the office. You may have noticed that the cameras have been installed around the grounds. This is to provide added security for all our members. The cameras cover all the grounds and any incidents will be captured by the cameras and stored for a period of time. These cameras are not for the purpose of big brother watching but if a complaint is made that a member is breaching the rules the evidence will be there. In looking over some of the footage to check the quality especially at night time I have seen members washing not only their cars but also the engine bays in the wash down bays. This is against all our rules and will not be tolerated. Just because you think no one is around don t disregard the rules. Regards Ray Porter COCKBURN POWER BOATS ASOCIATION INC WILL HOLD A HALF YEAR GENERAL MEETING ON FRIDAY 25TH MARCH 2011 AT 8.OO PM IN THE CLUBROOMS Written notice of any motions or resolution for this meeting must be received by the Club Manager no later than 5th March 2011

6 Mid-Week Group Lorna Clarke Christmas 2010 This was our last get together for the year. Everyone dressed up and looked their best for our Christmas dinner. Drinks and nibbles before hand, while the Village Caterers prepared our Christmas meal. Gee it smelt good. We all sat down 27 people. oh dear there was 2 people over what has our caterer organizer done Cyril and Delores did not have a place at the table, who forgot two places!!! We won t tell. We sat down about 6.30 pm to Beef, Pork and Veggie also a salad. It must have been good as there was not a lot of chatter during this course. The fruit salad and apple pie went down well with custard cream and ice cream. Thanks to the Village Caterers. It was suggested to book them right away for next year. It was good to see Judy there, as we don t see here during the year, and Keith Whitehouse with his daughter Lesley. 29 people attended and all agreed a very nice evening, Father Christmas was there, even thought he had a very busy few weeks ahead of him. Sorry to those who were unable to come. To all at C.P.B.C Marry Christmas we hope you had a very Merry Christmas - From MID WEEK GROUP I am writing this news letter in place of Lorna Clark who is on holiday somewhere. Look forward to seeing you all on the first week in Feb. From Delores Chester Chairperson M.W.G. SEND US YOUR FAVOURITE SEAFOOD RECIPE TO SHARE WITH CLUB MEMBERS Ingredients (serves 6) 90ml extra virgin olive oil 3 cloves garlic, finely diced 2 red chillies, de-seeded and finely diced 250g fresh tomatoes, diced 150ml cream 350g raw crab meat 450g angel hair pasta (see note) 3 tbsp fresh basil, chopped Angel hair pasta with crab, chilli and tomato Method Place a large saucepan of salted water on to boil. Pour the olive oil into a large, heavy frypan. Add the garlic, chilli and tomato, then cook over a medium heat for 1 minute. Increase the heat, add the cream and bring to the boil. Add the crab meat, tossing it so it cooks evenly. Cook for a further 1 minute. Meanwhile, cook the angel hair pasta, drain, and place in saucepan with crab mixture. Sprinkle with basil, season with sea salt and cracked black pepper, toss and serve immediately. Recipe Found at taste.com.au

7 Dive News Lynsey Carter Dive Dates February 20th March 20th April 17th ROPE & KNOT NIGHT REVIEW Some twenty people showed up at this workshop for what turned out to be a most enjoyable evening. I was pleased that everyone there got deeply involved in trying new knotting skills, and took home the product of their hard work, an 8 metre spliced boat launching bridle rope. Club sponsor Chris Gaudet was unable to attend the night due to being hospitalised with a rather nasty operation. He deputised Ben King, one of his staff, at short notice to take on the instruction and information duties. Ben easily slipped into the role and with his laid-back style and sense of humour soon had everyone at ease. I would like to thank Chris Gaudet and Boating Hardware for their continuing sponsorship and assistance with this Workshop evening ( now 5 years). I know that Chris and his staff will look after Club members who go to his shop with great advice and great prices. His shop is off Carrington Street about half a Km before South Street (coming from Freo). It is comforting to know that after attending my workshop, there 20 people in Perth qualified to tether a lighter than air ship using a Zepplin Bend, should the need arise. I enjoyed presenting the night, and am certain that those who attended did so too. Sea You Lynsey. Sportfishing The Sportfishing Group end of year get together Crustacean Bake is on at James and Sharon s house in Coogee on Sunday 20 th Feb, 2pm onwards, bring something seafood to eat, RSVP to Peter Anderton or James so s we know roughly how many to cater for. Plans are moving along for a Group trip to fish out of Monkey Mia for a week in April next year (2012). This trip will be something a bit different to most trips with the Group fishing inshore waters and the channel country around Monkey Mia. Register your interest with the Group now to get accommodation sorted, we need to book 12 months ahead to get beds. Two boats off to Coral Bay in early June, join in or meet up on your own. Next Competition: The February 2011 competition will be held on Saturday or Sunday 12th or 13th February For those interested, the fishing hours are from Midnight on Friday to 2 pm on Sunday. The competition will be judged on a points score based on the fish species and the length of the fish taken or released. At least one person from each participating boat needs to attend the official weigh in at 2 pm on the Sunday of the competition. Catch and release sheets need to be provided to the Weigh Master or his representative at that time in order for the scores to count in the competition. Next Fishing Group Meeting: The next Fishing Group Meeting will be held on Monday 21st February at 7.30 pm at the club. There are no formal application processes for club members just show up on the day and you are one of us. Jurien for the first weekend in June is pretty much locked in, any one who hasn t put their name down should contact Richard Howell to find out when / where. We re toying with planning another Around The Sound night orientation evening for night boating around Cockburn Sound, any member who isn t sure about venturing out at night should give their names to the Club Office, no date set, sometime later in April when there s less likelihood of strong wind is probably the go, that s to be decided much closer in, probably a Saturday evening, numbers will limited for safety sake. Peter Anderton
