Frost Challenges In the Fall and especially in the Spring we deal with frost challenges. When frost is present, we will delay play until the frost has melted. This is done to prevent damage that affects the quality of the playing surface and could potentially be very expensive and time consuming to repair. Frost is essentially frozen dew that has crystallized on the grass, making it hard and brittle. A grass blade is actually 90 percent water; therefore, it also freezes. Because of the short mowing height (sometimes as low as 1/8 inch) and fragile nature of the turf, putting greens are most affected by frost. Walking on frost covered greens causes the plant to break and cell walls to rupture, thereby losing its ability to function normally. When the membrane is broken, much like an egg, it cannot be put back together. Generally, damage isn t seen for hours later as the plant leaves turn brown and die. The result is a thinning of the putting surface and a weakening of the plant. The greens in turn become more susceptible to disease and weeds. While it may not appear to be much of an issue if a foursome begins play early on frost covered greens, consider the number of footprints that may occur on any given hole by one person is approximately 60. Multiply that by 18 holes with an average of 200 rounds per day and the result is 216,000 footprints on greens in a day or 6,480,000 in a month. Early Morning Golfers and Maintenance Workers In order to let our Members and Customers play in the early morning, they may run into our maintenance crew working on the golf course. If the maintenance crew waits on every golf group, they will not get done. We know it is a trade off but please be patient or make a tee time later in the day. Thank you. From the Maintenance Department We ask that you keep all golf carts at least 30 feet away from greens and tee boxes and on cart paths where provided. We also ask that you pair up as much as possible. This will help with the wear and tear on our golf course. Thank you. Attention Canyon Lakes Members and Customers At Canyon Lakes, we offer many different options for golf and other memberships. We also let you choose what you want to sign up for. Consequently, we ask that you only use what Membership you have paid for or purchased in the Golf Shop (i.e. range pass, cart rentals, etc.). The driving range is only for Driving Range Members and customers that buy range balls. We ask everyone to please hit inside the ropes, do not take any range balls or buckets off the driving range and to make sure all their shots stay within the driving range. We also ask that Driving Range Members do not share any range balls. If you cannot hit the range balls you purchased or received, please leave them there and Outside Services will pick them up. If you have a Cart Rental Membership, anyone who rides must have a Cart Rental Membership or pay the corresponding cart fee to the Golf Shop. We want to thank you for your help, business and support!
