1 THE BADIN SHORES BEACON Let the Light Shine March 2015 Newsletter: Approved by BSROA Editor: Ricki Mitchell Highlights* from the March 2015 Board Meeting BOD Meeting: Meeting was called to order by Jay, the pledge of allegiance was held, and Joey Church led our prayer. Minutes: Bobby made a motion to accept and suspend the reading of the minutes 2/14/15 BOD meeting. Ray seconded. Motion passed Joey Ray made a motion to accept the 2/14/15 BOD executive meeting minutes. Joey seconded. Motion passed Joey Mike made a motion to accept and suspend the reading of the minutes 2/28/15 BOD Special meeting. Ray seconded. Motion passed Joey and Bobby abstained Mike made a motion to accept the 2/28/15 BOD executive meeting minutes. Ray seconded. Motion passed Joey and Bobby abstained February 2015 Financial Report: John gave the financial report for February. Mike made a motion to accept the financial report, Rudy seconded. Motion passed Mike abstained Consent vote: In accordance with Article IV, Section 8 of our by-laws, a consent vote was obtained via from our board of directors. Jay Smith made a motion to approve the purchase of a commercial yard vacuum at a cost of $3000. John seconded the motion. Motion passed This document will be signed by each BOD member and entered with the minutes. Maintenance Report: David Removed snow along roads in park Found 15 water leaks. All leaks were on the homeowners side. Water was shut off and owners notified. 2 Umbrellas are on order and expected March 21. Stand prices rose from $26 to $146 each. David suggested that we buy the material and build our own. Mike ask about how that would affect the warranty and David said he would find out. Assisted Handy with running cameras in the sewer system Met with the new Handy general manager to tour system Met with DENR in regard with renewing our permit. Committee Reports: Appeals-no appeals Events- Elona reported the committee has met and started planning the events for the year. The first event will be Easter. Friday April 3 rd at 7pm volunteers will meet at the clubhouse to stuff eggs for the Easter egg hunt.. Elona requested candy donation (not chocolates) be made at the office. The egg hunt will take place at the pavilion on Saturday April 4 th at 2pm. The next event will be the weenie roast and bonfire at the brush pile on April 18 th and bingo on April 25 th. Elona wanted the home owners to know events will be posted on Facebook, the BSR events calendar. She is also printing monthly fliers to pit in the post office and the office to notify of events. Elections: Mike reported the elections committee will meet on April the 11 at 1pm for evaluation of the election process. Pool : Rudy asked for approval of the pool committee Bonnie and Megan Sides, Lisa Hayes, Susan Edwards, Bob Heffernan, and Bill Woodburn. Mike made a motion to accept the committee Ray seconded. Motion passed Dance Club: Bobby reported that the dance club was having the annual re-up party with a band tonight. OLD Business: Rudy presented the revised R&Rs and made a motion to accept the R&Rs. Motion seconded by Mike. Motion passed Jay reported that David met with the new general manager of Handy. At this David was told that Handy will be voting on a rate increase from $30 per lot to $66 plus a $5 per 1000 gallons of waste. Jay also informed the homeowners that we will be opposing the increase and the information has been forwarded to our new lawyer Margaret Chase. Her advice at this time was to not do anything rash and plan our response. Mike made a motion to recess until 2pm for elections. Bobby seconded Motion passed PM meeting reconvened: Jay called the meeting back to order and turned it over to JoAnn Henderson, who announced the election results as follows: Mike 280 Rudy 232 Patricia Boyette 189 Paul New 159 Larry Duke write-ins 45 proxies 433 Total 374 valid ballots 14 voids 267 quorum Joey stepped down and was thanked for his service. Patricia, the new board member was seated. Rudy made a motion for executive session for the purpose of electing new officers. Mike seconded the Motion passed After return from executive session, the new officers were announced. 3 David wanted to ask the new board for direction on one of the backup generators. It is in need of repair. It is missing an electrical control box and mechanical parts which control start up and shut down. This is the smaller, older generator. In the case of an electrical failure we will need two generators to maintain pump station. Estimated cost of repair would be $2500. The BOD felt that this should be a Handy expense and directed David to talk with Handy about repairs Rudy made a motion to adjourn. Motion was seconded by Jay. Motion passed Meeting adjourned PETS Do you bring you dogs down to the lake with you? Do you leave them on your deck or tied up outside when you go to the restaurant to the lake, or just cruising on the golf cart? Did you know that your dog barks continuously when you are gone? Please be considerate of your neighbors. Ask them if they are being disturbed. If they say your dog barks when you leave, please put them inside or take them with you. Covenant 8.2 states that your pet shall not be permitted to create a public noise nuisance, and the park can require you to remove them from the park. Not cleaning up after your pets will result in a fine. Feeding any of the cats in the Park will result in a fine. DANCE CLUB PARTY April 11`th at the Club House Social Hour from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. Dinner 7:00 to 8:0 p.m. BBQ with baked beans and Potato salad (bring a side dish or dessert) Music starts at 8:00 p.m. - D.J., Ken Nixon Cost: $5.00 for members, $10.00 for guests. 3

4 Payment Options Your dues are due at the beginning of each quarter. You have several options to pay these: 1. Use payment coupon and mail check 2. Pay on line using either a credit card, or an e-check (instructions are available in the office.) 3. You may pay monthly, however they must be paid in full by the end of the quarter they are due in. All payments must be applied to your account no later than the last day of the quarter or a late fee will be added to what you owe. Late fees must be paid with your dues, or penalties will be applied to your account. Please allow enough time for the Postal service to deliver, and consider holidays, when the bank is closed, and mail service is slow. Complaints If you have a complaint, the first place to go is to the office. If you do not get a response there, then take it to the Board. Please report any lights out or repairs needed to the office. It will get fixed much faster. If you tell the board first, the odds are pretty good the office won t hear about it until the next board meeting. If you are concerned you might be past due, call the office. If you are not sure your payment will get there in time, call the office. If you do not know how much you owe, call the office Past Due Accounts When you become past due, a late fee is added to your account. This must be paid within 15 days or your guest list will be suspended, and your bar codes will be turned off. You will receive a letter in the mail telling you your past due amount and detailing the consequences of not paying. Please read this carefully. And do not call the Board Members, as they will not handle late accounts. LINEBERRY & CO. 5 Spring Is Coming: Please make sure your lot numbers are on your golf cart/utv and are legible., as well as your boat trailers. Don t forget about your grass/weeds. Every two weeks during growing season should keep your lot looking fine. The park will notify you when it starts to look shaggy. Final Bonfire Of the Season Weather permitting, will be held April 18th at 6:00 p.m.. This will be at the brush pile behind the pond by the office. Bring your own hot dogs, drinks and fixings for smores. The park will have slaw, chili and chips available. We are trying to line up some music for you as well. Plan on joining us for a good time. Boating Safely Course The U.S. coast Guard Auxiliary is offering the About Boating Safely Boating Course. This instructive one day class is highly recommended to anyone planning on operating a boat. Anyone under the age of 26 is required to take this class to operate a powered vessel. Many insurance companies offer discounts for boat owners upon successful completion of the course. Please tell your friends and neighbors. Class Schedule: Date: March 28, 2015/June 27th Time: 9:00 4:00 p.m. Coffee and soft drinks provided (There will be a 1 hour break for lunch, not provided, there is a restaurant in the park.) 6 The General Store Many of you were used to running up to the General Store when you needed plumbing supplies, screws, or small groceries or propane refills. Well it has re-opened under new management. They are trying to keep it the same as the old owners did, and would like your input. Please stop in and say welcome to the lake area.
