4 Jorge Morales Vice President Golf in the Cold Winter is here and as the temperature continues to drop to the low to mid 40s around for most of the country. One should be asking themselves how much of an effect does the cold weather have on one s golf game in order to be properly prepared for the cold playing conditions. We all know that playing golf in the cold can be quite the challenge and can change our strategy in the golf course depending on how cold it really is. There is some tips that you would want to adopt such as clubbing up (extra club) and leaning your hands slightly forward than usual so you can create better contact with the golf ball. On the other hand, how much of an impact can a golf ball really have in your game when it comes to the cold weather? In order to find that out I had to surf the internet to find the most accurate answer so we can have everybody who is reading this joining the PGA Tour in no time. When a golf ball flies through colder air, it loses distance because cold air is a lot denser as compared to warmer air. In addition, colder air increases the trajectory of a golf ball, which in result causes the golf ball to fly higher and shorter. According to Trackman, The difference is approximately one yard of carry for every 10-degree change in temperature. One maybe saying to themselves that there is no way that that is correct and should be more than just one yard per 10-degree weather change, but one must take into consideration how the human body reacts to the cold and how many of us put on extra layers of clothes which may limit us from creating that extra power in our swing that we usually have. Wishing you all a wonderful 2019!!

6 Tim Devaney Past President The new golf rules for 2019 are now in effect. You can go to the USGA website and see and hear all the changes that a will affect your game and hopefully speed up play. Rule changes in the hazards, bunkers, free drops, lost balls will definitely change your shot making and scoring. You need to be aware of these changes before you are confronted with them so the transigon is easy, smooth and less confrontagonal in this gentlemen s game. Thoughts To Play By Stay in the present. The only shot you think about is the one at hand. During a round, there is no evaluating. There is no judging. There is no anticipating the result. There is only trust and acceptance. Anything that detracts from a narrow focus on the shot at hand diminishes your chances of playing your best golf. It s natural to stay in the present if you have complete peace of mind. When you run out of holes, and only when you ve run out of holes, add it up and see how you ve done. By - Dr. Bob Rotella The Golfer s Mind Chapter 6

8 Doug Peterson - Treasurer From the Treasurer---"Happy New Year" one and all from the cool confines of Palm Desert, where this born and bred Californian doesn't see 62 degrees as "warm" and 42 degrees is downright cold...contrary to my neighbors from the North and East who think they are in a "heat wave". The skies are blue, the sun is bright, the air is "crisp"...back to this stuff in a moment...and your treasury is "monetarily manageable" as we meander into the new year. We have $15K in the bank, give or take a few more renewals, and all bills are paid going forward, give or take a nogce from SCGA about said renewals. Based upon our November and December expenditures, it looks like it was a fine holiday season around LARV...I hope you were a part of it. Now back to that weather in the desert stuff...we have again secured Indian Springs G.C. for our annual Spring Fling "roadie in the desert"...i would have said "rowdy" in the desert, but with the new year, we are an older bunch and that is not possible for most of us...on May 3rd and 4th. We will have an 8:00 shotgun start with different teams both days. Homewood Suites in La Quinta will again be our host hotel with preferred rates for our pargcipants since the music fesgval will be over by then. I've been assured that the weather will be much warmer than currently experienced and that a good Gme will be had by all, despite new years having come and gone. Mark your calendars, pracgce with those new "sgcks" Santa brought you, and forget your "warmies" for this occasion...ah, Laughlin awaits! This being said, I hope the new year finds your "hit it, find it and hit it again" experience a more enjoyable one than previously thought, with fewer puhs to frustrate you, fewer swings to torment you, and more friends to comfort you in the process. Royal Vista Profit and Loss Statement Novermber /1/18 Beginning Balance $18, Income $1, Expenses $3,928.65T of C Jacket, SCGA Entry, Raffle Prizes, Tournament Prizes and Lunches 11/30/18 Ending Balance $15,800.77
