We sponsored two teams in the SCGA team play, five Saturday tournaments, five dollar lunch and a raffle on meeting day. The SPRING FLING APRIL 28th & 29th, 2011 will again be played on the Tahquitz Creek Golf Resort, Palm Springs. You should get your entry in right now!!!! 2 Vice President Tim Devaney Well here is the quiz,one of these portraits takes place in April and I would wager that everyone of you would give your eyeteeth to be there. This is the cats meow, the big dog, the one word that embodies the dreams of millions. The word masters has a primary connotation to everybody that takes sticks to dirt and punishes white spheres in the quest of championships, skins, pride and bragging rights. When looking up the word masters and visuals associated with the word all of these popped up as well.the Masters golf tournament, Masters of the Universe, The Beatles Past Masters, The Gucci Masters and The Pageant of The Masters were all displayed.i don t know if it is funny or sick, but I can see these posters on a few of our members bedroom walls as they were growing, up or as teenagers or as young adults or maybe even now as crusty old men. The first was probably on Mr. Gallant and Mr. Barajas s wall and to their good fortune they have been to Augusta.The second was most likely tacked on Kriss Ozols and Jorge Morales wall with Jorge never getting around to dyeing his hair. This one was easy as Dennis Walker still has this poster in the garage now since his wife was a little sketical and by the way you should hear his rendition of those tunes. The big tournament director is talented.if this next picture had taken place in Kentucky and not France I would have had this on my wall, ah the first Saturday in May. There was always something about horses I liked.this is another easy one and because of his extensive travels he has been there.the portrait shows a woman offering a peek through a small window looking at a young girl.does the city of Amsterdam and Al Parsakian ring any bells. The Masters is the first major golf tournament of the year and if it is in your blood you should be getting excited about the game again. The cold weather easing into Spring and the thought of getting those handicaps where they belong. I have noticed an overall trend for almost everybodies handicap to have risen. I believe this was due to the ever changing greens,excessive rain and cold and the amount of time between rounds. Hopefully, those days are behind us and with the Presidents Cup right the corner its time to get your game back. 2

I have a special announcement; the hotel has come back with a final price of $95 dollars, this includes tax, and the hotel will honor the $95 dollar price for Friday night. Those of you that have paid $109 dollars a night, a refund will be coming your way at the golf course of $14 dollars a night that you paid for; thanks. This is a modified scramble; it is called schramble where you pick the best drive and play your own ball in; full handicap. 3

4 Past President & Rules Doug Peterson From the Past Prez---As Spring arrives and I m sitting here watching the rain outside, I m reminded that that despite our good fortune to live in SoCal, it isn t always sunny and golf friendly every day. We rave about our weather, which I m sure will be perfect for the Spring Fling on April 28 and 29, but sometimes the clouds come through to cast shadows over our play. This is much like the game of golf itself as witnessed by Yuta Ikeda at the Bayhill C.C., site of the prestigious Arnold Palmer Invitational. While playing the par 5 16 th, which requires two carries over water to get there in two, he hit his second shot into the lake just short and left of the green. He took his drop on the line that his ball crossed the hazard, and proceeded to hit his next shot into the lake, even further left than his first ball. He did this two more times, each further left than before think Roy McAvoy in Tin Cup and finally reached the green to be putting for a 10 from forty feet above the cup. Yuta two putted for an 11 on the hole and posted the highest first round score of 84. One would think this course of events would severely limit his confidence and play in the second round, in as much as this course is one of the more difficult ones on tour. However, being the professional that he is, showing why he was invited in the first place, Mr. Ikeda shot a 3 under 69 on the second day, missing the cut but gaining new respect from his peers and teaching us all to never give up good things can happen if you just keep at it!!! Hopefully, we can learn from him when our game just isn t going like we want it think hit it, badly, find it, maybe, then hit again, even worse!!! This doesn t create good thoughts or scores but if we remember that to enjoy the rainbow, we have to endure a little rain, maybe we can be reminded that it s just a game and we should be glad to have the opportunity to participate in such a frustrating, and sometimes rewarding, endeavor. You have a great drive that ventures just off the fairway. Now you find your ball between, behind, or on top of clumps of grass. Yep, told you you have... I talked to Matt, and sure and behold the answer is that we have different kinds of grass currently on our course. Some are growing and some are dormant. Since we can t change the seeding then I asked Matt to ask the Superintendent to lower the blades on the mower so as to eliminate these little buggars until we have new grass growing in to make an even rough. Hope you have sent in your money Vince for Spring Fling. This is truly a classic event and everyone, even those who do not place, seem to have a good time. I know others will make their report so long that it is easy to skip over parts and perhaps miss something. I choose to make mine short and contain only important information. 4
