President s Report March 2018 It s almost Spring! Welcome to March, which means Spring is just around the corner. As cold as January s weather was, February s was as wet. That being said, Friday Happy Hours at the club were HOT. As I write this report, the Happy Hour pot is $ , so be sure to come out, enjoy a libation, some of Chef Lance s new creations and, perhaps, take home a lot of cash. Since the start of the new year, we have several new things happening. We welcomed our new Assistant Golf Pro Greg Ireland, we introduced the Wine Society, and started Wednesday Blue-Plate specials. If you haven t yet, please come on out and meet Greg, join the growing group with the Wine Society and enjoy lunch or dinner. Rumor has it that Lance will soon be bringing back fine dining. We have happy news for our members who enjoy racket sports. Pickle Ball is coming! The Board has approved improvements to our tennis facilities. The hard courts will be refurbished. This will include tennis courts, junior tennis courts and... the fastest growing sport in the US - pickle ball. The work will begin soon, and our target completion date is in May. A special thanks to board member Mindy Leech, Golf Pro Dano Korytoski and Tennis Coach Jack Coffey for finding affordable solutions. Also, I thank all the members who have expressed their desire to rejuvenate this program. As I close, I will tell you that the long-range facilities planning is still under way. The committee is working with architect Jim Chapman to complete the plan this spring. Utilizing the information shared by our membership in the 2016 survey, they are developing a plan to enhance our current members club experience and greatly enhance our brand to the community. Stay tuned, there is much more to come. As always, please feel free to contact me or any of the Club s board members with your ideas. See you at the club, Dan Hensley President w.d.hensleyjr@gmail.com Phone or text:
Are you looking forward to spring? We sure are! Your club has exciting new opportunities planned for the year. The newsletter, weekly blasts, the NCC Facebook page and Twitter will keep you updated on what s coming. Even with being covered for 2 weeks in January, Andy and his crew had the greens in great shape for February play. They have been working hard to apply seasonal chemicals and removing debris left from all the rain February brought us. Check out Andy s update. (Andy s Page) Coach Dano and Assistant Coach Greg will be kicking off the PGA Junior League the first of April deadline to sign up is March 20. Check out his article. (Dano s Page). Great News! Callaway is coming! Mark your calendars Callaway Demo Day, Sunday, March 18, 1 to 5. Come try out the new Rogue clubs Phil and Michelle used to capture wins this past weekend. After such long dry spells between wins for both, the new Callaways in their bags certainly made a difference. Let us fit you for some of the magic sticks and see what it can do for your game. Go Rogue! Mindy Leech has some exciting news about our Tennis program. Read all about it in her article (Mindy s Page). Mindy included a schedule of clinics and drills for children and adults. The Newnan Country Club Wine Society s on March 10 th event will highlight wines from Moldova, Tony Paridon, Wine Society leader, has arranged for the Moldova Ambassador and his family to attend and present the wines from Moldova. Chef Lance has worked with the Ambassador to pair the wines with a menu from the country. What a special treat! All details on the Wine Society page (Wine Society). Our Social Committee Chair, Lauren Smith, and Chef Lance are planning the Great Easter Egg Hunt and the Easter Brunch. See Chef Lance s update (Lance s Page). See you at the club, Jan
Great News We have kicked off another Membership Drive! You can get free dues for one month for referring a new member. 5 Come on Spring Wow, what a wild March! After a great February, this month has been awful, weather wise. We have received 5+ rainfall and had lows in the upper 20 s. Some days struggled to get out of the 40 s. It also seems it has rained every Sunday for the last month. Hopefully we are climbing out of it as we head into April. Greens are in great shape heading into the golf season. While we have had less than ideal weather, I am excited and happy with our transition from dormant turf into growing turf. I would say in my time here at NCC, its probably the best transition we have experienced. As I wrote last month s newsletter, I talked about the greens being slow, due mostly to an early green up based on weather. It s crazy how different they are today. With the cold snaps we have had (which I anticipated), growth has almost stopped, and speeds are back up to normal. With that said, we absolutely made the right call to be patient with being too aggressive that early. Thank You Newnan Ladies Golf Association! The work on #12 looks great. If you haven t had a chance to see for yourselves, the NLGA had the creek cleaned out, about 30 azaleas planted and fresh straw laid. It looks outstanding! Please thank a member of the LGA next time you see them. Thank You to the Men s Golf Association as well. As usual, this group contributed to help purchase course accessories, flags and flag sticks. The MGA has helped fund this annually for a long time. The new flags should be on the course in the next few weeks. Thanks MGA! See you on the course! Andy
Tips from the Pro April 1, 2018 We have finally made it to April and with it, the start of spring and The Master s Tournament. What a great time of the year! Things are starting to grow, grass is getting greener and it is time to get excited for golf and our Member/Member tournament. Which is filling up to be a record entry. With the addition of Lance, as our Chef, I think this year tournament is going to be one of the best experiences all year. So, get your clubs tuned up and have a great spring. The DEADELINE has been moved to April 13 th for the Jr League golf program. Practices will be starting mid to early May, with matches to follow. Once again, we will be competing with Summer Grove and Sunset Hills CC. The format is a fun 2-person 9-hole scramble and is designed to reinforce the team concept while creating a nurturing environment for learning the game. It is open to kids 13 and under of all abilities, however I feel they need to be at least 6. I will be forming a team as well this year. The cost is $225 per kid and each kid will be receiving a home and away jersey this year plus much more. To sign up go to pgajrleague.com and use the pass code: ncc (lower cased). If you are interested, please don t hesitate to ask myself or Greg of any questi9ons. The team last year had a blast, while really improving their games. It is a great way to teach your kids the game of golf. Thanks, Dano
Chef s corner Spring has arrived, the signs are evident. All types of flora are blooming. This is a very exciting time of year for several reasons. First of all, it brings with it a quantum increase in in the availability of an assortment of local fresh food stuffs. A bounty that we can share in a myriad of different culinary preparation. Secondly, it precedes the onset of summer, and all of the activities associated with it. One of those activities the opening of the pool. This summer will afford us the opportunity to make some changes. We are working on a program that will meet the basic criteria; 1. Service is expeditious 2. The food offered and presented is of the same standard as the grill 3. The program is comprehensive enough to both meet and exceed the needs and wants of the membership. The pool food and beverage service should truly be and mirror what we do in the grill. Thirdly the start of April actually the first day of April was one of my favorite holidays, Easter. We prepared a wonderful buffet brunch that was well received by all that attended! Get those e mailing and phone dialing fingers ready dads! The next big holiday is one that you can t forget! Mother s day! Momma s not gonna cook! Look forward to a fabulous menu for the day and get those reservations in! As always it is a pleasure to serve the culinary needs and wants of the membership!
MGA Input for April 2018 Newsletter On March 17 th, the MGA held its annual Par 3 Tournament on a layout designed by Michael Whiteside, Nina Fanning, and Dano. The weather was questionable, but the rain held off and everyone had a good time. A total of 42 players, including eight LGA members, participated in the tournament. The players were divided into 14 three-person teams based on their individual handicaps. The winning teams were: 1 st Place: Steve Swope, Mike Troyer, Michael Hill 2 nd Place: Will Meyer, Michael Whiteside, Tammy Troyer 3 rd Place: Ray Williams, David Parrott, Nancy Worthen 4 th Place: Shawn Flanagan, Clif Kersey, Deanna McMurrain Congratulations to all! The next MGA tournament will be the MGA Masters on Saturday April 7 th. I think there s a tournament in Augusta the same weekend that probably won t be nearly as exciting as our event. And there s the Member-Member Tournament on April 27 th and 28th. Keep in mind that MGA members receive participation points for MGA events as well as for Club tournaments (such as the Member-Member) that are used to determine participation in the MGA s end-of-year Ryder Classic. If you re not an MGA member, please consider joining. Come out and meet other golf members, but most of all, have FUN and enjoy our tournaments. Thanks to everyone for supporting the MGA.

Scotch Foursome season is just around the corner. The first event is planned for: Dates in April and May are: April 15 th April 29 th -9 4PM May 6 th -9 4PM May 20 th -9 4PM You can sign up through the pro shop. Please provide your address if you are new to the scotch foursome so that we can be sure to send you reminders of upcoming events. Hope to see you soon. Scotch Foursome Rules and Info Newnan Country Club s Scotch Foursome kicks off Sunday, March 25 Shotgun-4 PM. When playing Scotch Foursomes, think of it as scramble off the tee, then alternate shots into the hole. To add to the fun factor, each team is a boy/girl team. It works like this: Golfer A and Golfer B are a Scotch Foursomes team. On the first tee, both A and B hit drives. The team decides which ball to continue with. In many cases, the partners select the longest drive or the one that's in the best position. The two-person team plays the alternate shot format with one ball the rest of the way. The golfer whose drive was not chosen plays the second stroke. The partner plays the third stroke, and so on until they get the little white ball into the hole. Why This Format Is Called Scotch Foursomes It appears to be a nod to golf's roots in Scotland. When you see "Scotch" in the name of a golf format, it likely refers to "alternate shot." It's an indication that the format is entirely or partially alternate shot.
When is Scotch Foursome Played Scotch Foursome is scheduled to be played on every other Sunday at 4 PM with a few exceptions. Most play is 9-holes. There are 3 dates planned for 18-hole rounds. The dates are posted on the Proshop bulletin board and on the calendar on our website. You must play in 3 events during the season to qualify to participate in the end of the season championship. How to Sign Up Each week, there will be a reminder in the weekly blast. We will post a signup sheet on the board outside the Proshop. Signup with your name and your partner s name. If you don t have a partner and are interested in playing, we will begin a list, so we match you with a partner. Check in/play day of event Check in at the Proshop, pay for the round and $5/person for the prize pot. Handicaps are required. If a player does not have a handicap, 1 stroke/hole will be assessed as the handicap. Handicaps will be adjusted after each play. Following play, scorecards are turned in to the Proshop. The group stays and enjoys dinner together. The Pro scores and makes awards 3 places pay low gross, low net, low putts. No team will receive more than one award each play day.
