Members BJ and Phil Chinn came by the week before last. My people thought it would be funny to pose me in pirate gear. Phil and BJ are experts on pirates. They even brought a pirate hat for me to wear. Well, Cats don t wear hats. I did like the feather in my people s hat though. Anyway, I am against the dressing up idea. I mean a Commodore Cat outranks a Captain Kidd ee. (Kitty, get it?) Back to business! We have an exciting month coming up. Next Wednesday the 15th (not Tuesday this time) at Angelo s restaurant in Burien we will have a presentation by Joy and Dave Clifford of their last years Alaska Cruise. Then on Friday the 17 th we will have our next cruise going to Dock Street in Tacoma hosted by Jim and Vicki Carey. We will be visiting the museums that you choose from the many found in Tacoma. For racers we have coming up the Spring Series 2, 3, and 4 as well as the Spring Regatta. All in All it is going to be a very busy month. We also would like to welcome our new members. They are Curtis and Cathy Burnett and Billy Beck and Leisa Bannice. Until next time The Commodore Cat Welcome aboard!

Social Committee Janet Sisson, Chair Alaska beckons. On Wednesday, April 15th members Dave and Joy Clifford will present a slide show of their 3- month adventure to southeast Alaska. Come hear about their planning, lessons learned, the incredible scenery, abundant wildlife viewing and more. NOTE THE DATE CHANGE. Due to a scheduling problem, this program takes place on Wednesday, April 15 th. With your tax assignment completed, come relax with us. 6:00 pm Dinner at Angelo s in Burien 7:15 pm Program RSVPs to me at iltbuh@gmail.com or would be most appreciated. Janet Racing News Andy Norton, Race Fleet Captain Paul Goforth, Assisting Our Commencement Bay (Windjammer 3) race, Saturday March 7 was faced early with light winds, but enough for five PHRF and two cruising class boats to get the job done. They all finished within ten minutes of each other corrected, with Chinook taking first, Victory second, and Wings third, with Yikes! taking the cruising class. And the club had good representation in the Islands race Saturday March 21 st out of Gig Harbor. In PHRF 5, Slick, the J-29 representing CYCT here but moored in Des Moines and a regular participant in TTPYC races, was second. Cherokee took third and Les Chevaux Blancs fifth in the always competitive class 6, and in PHRF 7 we had close to a full house, where Nimbus won convincingly, Suddenly took third, Little White Rabbit fourth, and Wings 6 th. Next up the Spring Series; first race this Thursday April 2 nd. Remember to make sure you register for this series and all others through Regattanet.com.

2015 Mid Sound Summer Social Carol Jones, Vice Commodore As you have probably heard the Mid Sound Social for this year has been re-vamped. We will be holding the social on four consecutive Tuesdays this year beginning June 9 th, June 16 th, June 23 rd, and the last race will be held June 30 th. We will only be holding the event in June as most people start their cruising season in July. There will be two start times this year. The first one starting at 6:55pm for racing class, 7:00pm for cruising class. We will only be hosting one charity this year which will be the Des Moines Food Bank. We will still be hosting an after race party with food and prize give away s. Will keep everyone informed as the event gets closer. If you are interested in joining our committee please send me an . 4 2015 Crabfeed March 21st-22nd What happened to in like a lion, out like a lamb? Guess we should be grateful with our weather and not like that experienced in the South, Midwest and East coast-so much for Polar Vortex 2, otherwise known as Winter Storm. On Saturday, the skies cleared just in time for the games and yummy potluck dinner. We also were treated to stunning views of the Islands race, a spinnaker set up Colvos Passage, mark rounding at the NW corner of Blake, and beat back to Gig Harbor. Many TTPYC racers were cheered on from the shore. Cruisers rendezvoused on Brigadoon for an impromptu happy hour on Friday. There also was an open cockpit gathering on Yikes II. The raccoons again were out in force, during the day and night-combing the shoreline, on the trails looking for treats. I heard they licked dishes temporarily left in the cockpit of a boat to be unnamed..clean. We had midnight explorers on board too, judging from the little paw prints. Geese were abundant, too. Deer came down in the evening and munched on the new grass. Dodging their deposits was impossible. On Saturday, cruisers gathered for the games, the Blake Island Open, like putting in golf, How well do you know your Apples (match 10 real apples to the template), and Wonderword (like finding lots of words-the last letters spell out the word of that day). The southerly wind was a little chilly, so the roaring fire in the shelter fire pit kept us warm. Thanks to all who contributed the wood, and there was leftovers for future users of the shelter. The Open was held on the Greens at Blake, the sand/grass court-three holes were constructed, with beach stones marking the putt box (similar to the tee box). Golfers putted to crab pot bait boxes on two holes, and had to count their putts taken to get the golfball in the bait box. Now these bait boxes are 3 x3 x5, so getting that ball in the hole takes some skill, especially when the ball went beyond the bait box. The last hole was a green round putting contraption, difficult to see from the putt box, and the ball could roll off the hole. Cruisers gathered in teams of up to 4, and 3 teams started simultaneously at each hole. (Shotgun start without the shotgun). When finished with the hole, they rotated to the next hole, until all 3 holes were completed. There were six teams competing. Cruisers kept individual scores, which ranged from 8 to 17. Since there was a tie for fewest putts, a playoff was held. Remarkable that 3 of the four in the playoff were on the same team, Carol Jones (9), Chris Jones (9), Janet Sisson (8). Ben Stewart (8) rounded out

the 4 for the playoff. The playoff started on hole #1, Carol, Janet and Ben all tied with 2 putts. Chris joined the gallery. The playoff continued to hole #2, Carol volunteered to go first, stepped up to the putt box AND PUTTED THE BALL IN THE BAIT BOX, a PUTT in ONE! Janet and Ben tried to match that. Ben finished second with 2 putts, Janet finished third with 3 putts. Carol was soundly cheered by the gallery. The second game, How well do you know your Apples, tested cruisers recognition of the many apple varieties now available to us. All 10 apples were hand selected from Uwajimaya. Special care was taken to keep size and coloring close to make the matching more challenging. Cruisers took each apple and placed it on a template with the name of the apple and sticker from the apple. This would have been quite simple 15 years ago, with Red and Golden Delicious and Granny Smith apples. Now we have many more choices. Apple varieties for this game included Opal, Red Delicious, Jonagold, Granny Smith, Gala, Fuji, Jazz, Golden Delicious, Braeburn and Cameo. Everyone guessed the Red and Golden Delicious. Kersten Hubbard correctly identified 5 varieties, and Tom Hubbard, Tom Spohn, and Daniel Downhour all identified 4 varieties. Guess what they received as part of their prizes? Note, if you are in Wenatchee, check out the Washington Apple Commission, for a history of our apple industry, Wonderword puzzles were passed out to cruisers, who had to find the most number of words listed in fifteen minutes. The puzzles were all different (collected from Seattle Times daily for a couple of months). The words appear in the puzzle-horizontally, vertically, diagonally, and backward. Kudos to Tish Greenman who found 40 words, Jean Spohn found 37, Kim Carroll found 35, Emmelie Stewart found 34 and Kristie Brame found 31. The luminarias on the picnic tables glowed during and after dinner. Thanks to all for making them for the tables. We had 15 boats attending Amazing Grace, Brigadoon, Cheers, Daybreak, Dreamliner, Hobbes, Kingfisher, Prime Meridian, Rhumb Runner, Sloe Tango, Stella Maris, Tiburon, Too Fat to Fly, Viva!! and Yikes II. Four legged crew included Buddie and Bandit, Indie and Cookie, Tunie, Chloe, and Molly.

The potluck dishes were excellent, as usual. Special thanks to all who played the games, supplied the wood and built the fire, helped set up and clean up, and pack out the garbage. You really make the cruises a success! The Park Host from Everett Navy Yacht Club did a great job getting dock spaces, so that we had the first two piers for our Club. Ben Stewart and Tom Hubbard promptly assisted tying boats up. Jean Spohn helped us reduce our garbage footprint by collecting compostables. The crab from Johnny s was very tasty too. Thanks again! Sailors were treated to light rain and southerlies on Sunday and Monday, maybe next year will be better. But we can t complain because the weather for the Saturday events was spectacular. The point shelter was a nice change, too-with the views of Seattle, Mt. Rainier and north. A DAY AT THE MUSEUM April We will have the usual Friday happy hour for those so inclined. I will have copies of the scavenger hunt available at that time. On Saturday we will have a Fabulous Fingerfood Feast and Sunset Sharing time. Sunset will be at 7:50pm so we can start at about 5:30 pm. Please bring a substantial fingerfood to share and your beverage of choice. This will be in lieu of a potluck on Saturday. During this time is when you can win prizes for telling us about your most memorable museum visit and showing us a memento of your visit (or just a picture). We will also have prizes for those who spent time on the photo scavenger hunt at this get together. I have reserved the tent on the dock for this and hopefully the weather will cooperate, but you will want to bring your own chairs. Don t miss out, call Dock Street Marina at (253) and make your reservations before April 3 rd (after that they release our reserved spots) and join us for the weekend.

I am getting excited about our Day of the Museum Cruise to Tacoma April The museum I am most excited about is a new one that will be opening for the season just a week before our cruise. It is the Foss Waterway Seaport Museum. It is located at 705 Dock Street which is about 14 blocks from the Dock Street Marina. The cost is $8.00 for adults and $5.00 for seniors (62 yrs old). They do not yet have their hours posted but they will probably be the standard 10am to 5pm that all the other museum have. Their website is if you want to check them out. It might be nice to get a group of us to go together on Saturday. Knowing who is interested in this ahead of time would be wonderful. The other museum are: Tacoma Art Museum - open 10-5 with free public tours accompanied by a docent at 1:00 and 3:00pm non Saturdays. They also have an all ages art room where you can go in and use their supplies to do artwork for free, even if you don t go to the museum. They are located at 1701 Pacific Avenue and you can get there either walking or on the free light rail line. Prices are $14.00 or $12.00 for seniors ( 65yrs. old) You can check them out at The Tacoma History Museum open 10-5 and located on Pacific Avenue right across the sky bridge with the glass art on it. Cost is $11.00 or $8.00 for seniors (60 yrs old) check them out at The museum of Glass is right there by the marina. It costs $15.00 or $12.00 for seniors (62yrs old) check them out at The Car Museum is the farthest away at 2702 East D Street. Adult admission is $16.00 for adults $14 for seniors (65 yrs old) You can check them out at
