2 From The Board On Wednesday, December 10, 2014, about 80% of the voting membership cast their ballots and approved the proposed $1.85 million renovation and expansion budget for the Clubhouse. In effect, this vote amounted to a mandate for the Board to proceed and we appreciate very much your recognition of both the needed improvements in the building and also the strategic importance of this project. Thank you for your confidence in the Board and General Management to make this happen. We have moved swiftly to appoint GMA Architects Planners, a prominent Ft. Myers based architectural firm, as the project s architects. At the same time, D. Garrett Construction, Inc. has also been selected as the Construction Management firm. Both outside professional firms have Country Club renovation and construction experience which will contribute to our goal of beginning construction in April, Assisted by both GMA and Garrett s Construction Manager, we will further evaluate and narrow the building s conceptual design alternatives, schedules and construction budget requirements during the next few weeks. Design drawings will be developed during this pre-construction phase to finalize the building design details as well as to fine tune material selections and project costs. We anticipate structural designs to be finalized in mid to late February, 2015, and long lead items such as roof trusses and windows ordered at that time. Three or more bids will be obtained from contractors and vendors and, in the process, the project s professionals will be searching for ways to achieve cost saving alternatives and other efficiencies while keeping the project on schedule and on budget. The ultimate goal for the project schedule is to start construction mid-april. The timing and sequencing of project events will be very important to its successful completion and will be monitored both daily and during weekly meetings by D. Garrett construction management and through the oversight of GMA, Fred Forbes and Don Huprich. As the main dining room will be closed during construction, the grill room and lobby areas will be open for both lunches and scheduled evenings. The kitchen will generally operate throughout the construction period but will have occasional down days as well as a 2-3 week shutdown in August in order to install the new cooler and walk-in freezer and complete the kitchen s expanded food preparation and storage areas. We are all excited that this important project is now underway. During January and before building layouts and designs are fixed, a community-wide meeting is planned to provide an opportunity for the membership to give their ideas and comments about the expansion and renovation. Our next update on this and other project details will be sent after the holidays. In the meantime, happy holidays and safe travel to all. Fred Forbes, Bob Moe, Dick DeCoste, Harold King, Don Wirsbinski, Bill Bell, Dave Miller

3 President s Message 2014 is history and 2015 is here. All of us are excited about the overwhelming approval of our voting members who voted to renovate the Clubhouse dining room, kitchen and the locker rooms. We have assembled a great team of professionals and we look forward to construction starting in mid April 2015 with completion being around early December We are further looking forward to upgrading our level of member service including food and beverage service which will be made possible by an expanded dining room and kitchen. Life is Good at Hunters Ridge and we have both a small gated community charm with a very bright future. We believe the next several months will be full of fun filled events. Fine dining will be starting in early January on Saturday nights by reservation only. Reservation only is what many of other clubs do and they limit how many. For example, Palmira has a seating capacity in their dining room of 175 to 180 yet they limit fine dining to 100 or less because they want to give a higher level of dining service. Reservation only also allows us to better forecast our staff needs for the event which is more cost effective. During the past several months Dick DeCoste, Bill Bell, Don Huprich and I have been meeting with the head of other clubs such as Palmira and Worthington to find out a number of very important things such as: total food and beverage staff and type of staff in season and off season including the total staff wages, distribution of tip policy, other employee policies and benefits, number of days their grill room is open for lunch and in the evening in and out of season, number of fine dining nights in and out of season; and many other things. We have obtained sample menus which is very helpful. All these efforts will be very helpful in taking our level of quality service to a higher level as expected in a Country Club. We hope all of our members and their families enjoy a very happy New Year 2015 with lots of good things and good health. HAPPY NEW YEAR!! Fred Forbes, Board President Hunters Ridge no longer sponsoring a hole at Ace Classic nor CME Until further notice Hunters Ridge is no longer going to sponsor a hole at Ace Classic nor CME. Although Hunters Ridge has participated as a sponsor of a hole for approximately 20 years we are no longer going to be involved as a hole sponsor. Members of Hunters Ridge can still participate in these tournaments as cart drivers, shuttle drivers, or as hole marshals. A member of Hunters Ridge can sign up as a member of Worthington s or other sponsoring clubs team or if you want to marshal then you will be in the Hole marshal Pool and be assigned where needed. 4 Life is Good at Hunters Ridge! We want to thank those of you who were so kind and generous to contribute to our Christmas Holiday Party for the children at New Horizon s in Bonita Springs. The children and their families were very, very grateful. We again thank you for your overwhelming thoughtfulness. Beginning January 1, 2015 a new landscaping company, Earth Works Landscaping, will be on site to take care of all common areas, all north and south villa areas, as well as all areas for the condominium associations, Grand Pines, Pheasant Hollow and Lynx Pass. Scott Davis, owner of Earth Works Landscaping, will be on site daily with his workers, and has already met with the Board representatives to the north and south villa committees and also with several homeowners. They are very anxious to get started and we know nice improvements in the landscaping care will take place. As soon as they begin, more information will be provided as far as who to contact for any concerns you may have. Security still remains a top priority for our community so please remember to notify us at either the Administration Office or the Security Guard House whenever you have guests coming to our community. We greatly appreciate your communication. With the completion of the Grill Room renovation, and the installation of the new flat screen televisions it is time to start enjoying this new area to its fullest. Plan to join us for the NFL playoffs on Sunday, January 11 th and the 18 th. Start times are to be determined. This will be fun and casual and food and drinks will be available was a great year with the completion of the new snack bar, The Ridge, along with the Grill Room and 2015 promises to be just as great as we get ready for the renovation of the Main Dining Room and the Kitchen areas. I wish you all a very Happy New Year! Don Huprich, General Manager CHIP SHOTS The weather in December was on the cool side. Believe me, I am not complaining it could be a lot worse! When the weather is as cool as it has been, the grass does not grow like it does when it is warm. The cool weather along with little rain and golf cart compaction hurts the growth of the grass. With your help, by keeping your cart on the path as much as possible and adhering to the 90 degree rule, we can have good turf to play from all winter. Please do your part, it will make a significant difference. Thank you for helping! Start off the New Year with Golf Resolutions! The Golden Rule. Treat others as you would like to be treated. Putt the ball into the hole when your score is going to count. Fill your divots with sand and fix your ball mark plus another. When getting ice & water at the cart area, please be quiet as golfers playing #5 Dispose of litter and fruit peels in their proper place. Take a golf lesson & practice. Especially your short game. Maintain a good pace of play. Play by the rules of the game. Drive slowly in your golf carts around the club house area. Enjoy the game. There is no other game like golf! 2015 Men s Member-Guest The 2015 Men s Member-Guest is scheduled for February 26 th, 27 th & 28 th. The exciting match play format continues for Space is limited. We would love for you and a partner to experience this premier golf event. Please check with the Golf Staff for further information Ladies Member-Guest The 26 th Annual Ladies Member/Guest will be played on Thursday, March 19 th. The theme is Follow the Yellow Brick Road. This will be an amazing event! The Ladies Organization is working hard putting all the pieces in place. Once again, there will be an optional Ladies Night Out the evening of Wednesday, March 18 th with entertainment. The field will be limited to 144 ladies. If you played in 2014, please confirm with the Golf Staff by January 15 th if you are planning on playing in If you did not play and have interest in playing please let us know. Thank you for making this a special tournament!

5 2015 Ladies 9-Hole Invitational The 11 th Annual Ladies 9-Hole Invitational will be held on Thursday, April 9 th. Thanks to our 9-Hole Ladies, this event remains one of the most popular 9-Hole Invitationals in the area! We receive many compliments from lady guests. This year s theme is Rhinestone Cowgirls. As a member, you are welcome to bring a guest to this event. Join in the fun! Golf Notes: In order to help relieve cart congestion outside the golf shop area. If you are riding with another member and leaving your cart until your round is over, please park near the outside dining area. The handicap blue flags are available for those who need assistance with getting around the golf course. Pick up and return the flags to the golf shop on a daily basis. When using the blue flags, please keep carts at least 30 from the tees and greens and use the 90 degree rule when exiting the cart paths. Golfers must follow the cart rules to maintain healthy turf. Members must select their tee for club tournament events and are permitted to change tees one time during the calendar year, unless you have a documented medical condition. Members have until January 15, 2015 to let the Golf Staff know if you are going to change tees for Reminder: There are no gimmes in the golf events at Hunters Ridge. If your score is going to count in a golf event, then your ball must be holed. Knowing the basic rules and etiquette will make golf more enjoyable for everyone. Please ask the Golf Staff if you have any questions or concerns. U.S.G.A. GHIN Handicap service will be charged to accounts on your January statement. Golf members charge is $20 and social members is $30. If you would like to sign up or discontinue a handicap please contact the golf shop. The 2015 Hole-in-One Club will start on February 1st. Here are the details: Once a year entry fee of $5. Please give cash to golf shop when signing up. Sign up at Golf Shop Counter starting January 1 st You may enter anytime during the year. Any member signed up in the club having hole-inone from February 1, 2015 thru January 31, 2016 will win a portion of the purse. The winner s portion will depend on the total purse divided by the number of holes-in-one. For example: 200 Members participate x $5 = Total purse $1000 divided by 5 holes-in-one = $200 per hole-in-one. To be eligible a hole-in-one must be made at Hunters Ridge and be witnessed by at least two other golfers. A signed and attested scorecard will also be required. Must complete at least 9 holes. TITLEIST BALL FITTING DAY On Thursday, January 8 th, Hunters Ridge has the unique opportunity to host the Titleist Golf Ball Fitting Team at the driving range from 7:30 am-1:30 pm. First you have the opportunity to hit Pro V1 golf balls on a TrackMan launch monitor to quantify your launch conditions. The specially trained team will discuss how these variables impact your golf ball choice, and in your debriefing you will be presented (2) two-ball packs of your recommended Titleist golf balls. Second is a comprehensive interview process involving the ball you currently play, why you make it your ball of choice, a discussion on Titleist golf ball performance, and the recommendation of products suited for your style of play. The team encourages questions about your recommended Titleist golf ball models, and you will also receive (2) two-ball packs of your recommended Titleist golf balls. No appointment is required for this service. If you are interested in a Trackman Titleist Golf Ball Fitting please call the Golf Shop , to schedule your fifteen-minute appointment. There are only 24 available times and these will fill up quickly. We are certainly pleased to offer this service and encourage you to take full advantage of this opportunity.
