2 PAGE 2 House Committee Report Well, our season is off and running. Hopefully each of you have been able to have a meal at the Illium Bistro. If you have, we are quite certain you feel as we do that our food and beverage operation is in excellent hands. With the bad weather in April, the food and beverage service has only been in operation on a full time schedule for two weeks. Nevertheless, it seems that we are off on the right foot. Understandably there will be concerns that may arise. There could be a few growing pains The Committee will be meeting with Marla and Brian later this month to review the experience so far. In that regard, we are very interested in hearing from you as to your experience, good or bad, so that we can build on the good and address the bad. As we move on, please keep these points in mind: Marla & Brian: Both are professionals who have been in the restaurant business for some time and are recognized chefs in their own right. They want to be here at Pinehaven and they want our membership to have the best experience possible. Marla and Brian are very approachable. They want to hear from you directly. Your perspective and constructive criticism, good or bad, is important to them. Patience: Please have patience as Marla & Brian work to create a great dining experience for us. As was stated in their letter to the membership, they are committed to addressing issues of concern. The Committee urges patience and understanding as we move along. Courtesy: Please treat staff as you would want to be treated. An issue or concern does not have to be presented in an angry or confrontational manner. Scott Warren: Scott is our Club General Manager. While he regularly interacts with the caterer, he is not the Food & Beverage manager. If you have a food and beverage issue, please take it directly to Marla, Brian or one of their managers. Reservations: Please, especially for dinner, if you are coming to Pinehaven, call for a reservation in a timely manner. Marla and Brian need to have the appropriate staff on hand, and if they do not know what the traffic will be, they will not be able to plan properly Needs and/or wants: There are 250 +/- members at Pinehaven. Everyone has their preferences for wine, beer and menu items. Each and every request cannot always be accommodated. If there is something you prefer, do not hesitate to ask, but be understanding if for one reason or another it cannot be accommodated. Pinehaven catering vs. other clubs: As you know Pinehaven contracts with our caterers. They are an independent contractor operating their business in our club. Many other clubs Food & Beverage is run by and funded by the club itself. There is a difference. Often times those other clubs will intentionally take a loss on Food & Beverage items to the benefit of the membership. Marla and Brian are running a business, and while we do discuss food & beverage pricing, if their pricing is fair and reasonable, which we believe it to be, we should respect their right to run a profitable business. 3 PAGE 3 Continued from page 3 Marla and Brian encourage all of our members to reach out to them directly with any thoughts or concerns. The Committee will provide comment cards, in the future, for those members who may be more comfortable communicating in this manner. Information will follow on this in the coming weeks. We know our membership will convey thoughts and concerns in a gracious manner with the knowledge that Marla and Brian want all of us to have a positive experience each and every time we dine at Pinehaven. The Committee, in general, will meet with the caterer at least monthly. We will be meeting in May to discuss the experience to date and to make modifications to the food & beverage operation in cooperation with Marla and Brian as necessary. The 2018 House Committee: Chairs: Al DeMarco and Mary Scatena; Lynn Cummings, John Graham, Eileen Hart, Cindy La Fleur, Dave Natoli, Walt Novak, Ray Schnoor and Tim Ward Membership & Marketing Report The Membership and Marketing Committee is projecting that as of May 1, 2018 we will have 247 full privileged memberships (229 non-corporate and 18 corporate), 15 house memberships and 4 non-resident memberships. Of the 247 full privileged memberships 47 are Associate Members (under the age of 40) and 200 are Non-Associate. In the April 13, 2015 Club Administrator report we had 234 full privileged memberships and 8 house memberships. Of those 234 full privileged memberships 25 were Associate Members (under the age of 40) and 209 were Non-Associate. Since the beginning of fiscal year 2016 we have recruited 97 new memberships to Pinehaven Country Club with a retention rate of 66% on the 72 members that joined in 2016 and Our marketing initiatives have changed as we are now using a digital marketing campaign with in banner video through Spectrum Reach. Since its inception on February 15th this campaign has generated: 250,000 Impressions 6,050 Advertisement Interactions 6,300 Engagements 224 Click Throughs 250 Pinehaven Home Page Site Visits With all this said we still need your help! 4 PAGE 4 Golf Activities Report Dear Members, Please note the following changes for the 2018 golf season: Tee time request changes for 2018: For the 2018 season we will be implementing, on a trial basis, open tee times on Sundays. This means that primary and NON - primary members may request any tee time on Sundays, including primary tee times. On Saturdays and holidays, only primary members will be able to request primary tee times (the primary is still allowed to ask a non-primary to join them during primary time) Once all primary requests have been met then non-primary members will be able to request any open primary times. Tournament sign-up and entry fee changes for 2018: The sign-up deadline for a weekend tournament will be 7:00 p.m. the Wednesday before the tournament. If you withdraw from a weekend tournament after the Wednesday before the tournament, you will NOT be refunded your entry fee. Adam was the captain of the Saint Rose baseball team back in the 1980 s. He addressed them on behalf of the Board of Directors and the membership. After introductions, he wished them success and explained that the growth of their respective programs, under the leadership of Head Coach Scott Warren, has been exciting to witness. It has also caused some pain points with the membership at times. They were reminded that, as student-athletes, they are representing the College and they are expected to always follow the rules and etiquette of golf. Guidelines for practice and play have been established to try to eliminate or at least mitigate these issues going forward. A member of the Board will meet with the teams again in August before they begin their fall season.

5 T HE C HA T T E R B O X PAGE 5 Greens Committee Report We would like to welcome everyone to the 2018 season. As we all know, the temperatures have been slow to warm up. The month of March felt like February, and April like March. With these cold and unseasonable temperatures, dry and windy conditions, our sandy soils, and the shade provided by our trees, the turf has been slow to come around. The initial assessment of the course coming out of the winter is that we have had worse years and we have had better years, so the conditions are about what is to be expected. The greens and tees look good, with no apparent winter injury. The fairways look ok, with some of them having a varying percentage of winter injury. The fairways with winter injury will be aerified and seeded in the next few weeks, weather permitting. When that work is completed, and the weather becomes conducive to good growing conditions, these winter injury areas will recover and be back to normal. In speaking with superintendents from other clubs in the area, we are not the only course that is experiencing some winter injury to fairways, but we are one of the few courses that did not sustain injury to the greens. This is due in part to the labor intensive installation of our impermeable winter greens covers. The harvesting of the trees on the left side of the 15th fairway has been completed. A significant amount of the removal of the trees and brush on the left side and behind hole number 14 has been accomplished. The remainder of this project will be completed in the near future. The work on holes #14 and #15 along with the harvesting that is being conducted in proximity to the driving range is being performed by Prentiss & Carlisle Forest Resource Management. The contract that was structured with Prentiss & Carlisle for woodlot management and tree harvesting provides Pinehaven with bartered work and some revenue. With regard to scheduling, we plan to deep tine aerify the greens on May 7th, or that week, weather permitting. This particular form of aerification has a quicker recovery time (approximately one week) versus core aerification (approximately two weeks). The golf course maintenance team and greens chairman should be commended for their extensive efforts pertaining to clean-up work after two March snow storms. Rob Bigley, CGCSA Superintendent, is most appreciative for their hard work and determination. The heavy wet snow left a tremendous amount of devastation producing one of the more significant clean up projects in recent years. Thank you for your support and patience, enjoy the 2018 season!
