President s Report As I prepare this report, I am watching snowflakes fall outside my window, the sure sign that another golf season has come to an end. We are excited about another successful year. As our mission statement say, our goal is to develop, promote, govern and service the game of golf for the benefit of all participants. My fellow board members have prepared reports highlighting our season's activities and many accomplishments. Congratulations to all our 2018 provincial champions and a special thank you to all the participants for your support in Golf Manitoba events over the past year. This year we said goodbye to two long-time staff members. Dave Comaskey has moved his talents to the City of Winnipeg to help manage their inventory of public golf courses while Carol Muzychka retired after 25 years to start a new chapter in her life and enjoy time with family. We wish them well and thank them both for their many years of commitment to Golf Manitoba and the golfing community we service. In July, we welcomed Jared Ladobruk as executive director. Jared had an accomplished amateur and collegiate career and we look forward to his leadership. We also welcomed Liz Singayan as the administrative assistant, a very active and important role in support of the programs and services of Golf Manitoba. There are many to congratulate and thank. First, to my fellow board members. Your commitment, encouragement and engagement truly motivates our collective to reach our goals. We have accomplished much, but also realize there is more ahead. Thank you! To the volunteers. What can be said that hasn't been said many times. You represent the heart and soul of Golf Manitoba and the golfing community. Your dedication and commitment is immeasurable. Thank you! Last, but not least, the Golf Manitoba staff - Dave Comaskey, Jared Ladobruk, John Lamarche, Lisa Andersen, Garth Goodbrandson, Carol Muzychka, Liz Singayan and Garrett Hudson. Your extraordinary efforts, expertise and professionalism have been invaluable and instrumental in our continued success. Thank you! Respectfully submitted, Vince Mariani President golfmb.ca - 5 -

Course Rating & Handicap Committee The Course rating committee rated 10 courses this year and completed a total of 40 tees rated (21 men s tees and 19 women s tees). In addition, we rated an additional 12 tees on behalf of Golf Ontario. To maintain valid course and slope ratings, golf courses are required to be re rated at least every 10 years or when significant changes are made. Courses rated in Ontario included Red Lake Golf & Country Club, Eagles Landing Golf Course in Dryden, Little Falls Golf Course in Atikokan, Peninsula Golf Course in Marathon, Centennial Golf Course, Emerald Green Golf Course and Thunder Bay Country Club, all in Thunder Bay. In addition, we rated a new tee at St. Charles Country Club, Wildwood Golf Club and Quarry Oaks in Manitoba. We also held a 2-day seminar in May in Winnipeg for new volunteers that were interested in joining the Course Rating team. It was facilitated by Richard Smith from Golf Saskatchewan who did a great job of introducing the concepts to new team members and refreshing knowledge for returning team members. In addition, we had 2 members of the Rating committee attend the annual National Course Calibration seminar sponsored by Golf Canada. Golf Manitoba continues to conduct Handicap Education Seminars for representatives from our member clubs. In 2018 a seminar was held at the Breezy Bend Country Club at the end of April. The license agreement with the USGA requires that each club have at least one representative certified. These representatives will then be used as a resource for inquiries at the club level. If your club has not sent an individual, please do so and if you have already sent someone, we would encourage you to send others to be educated on the details of the handicap system. We would also encourage clubs to organize seminars specifically for your members and Golf Manitoba will come to your club to assist. Thank you to all our rating volunteers for their efforts throughout the year. Looking forward to another busy summer next year for all our men s and women s rating teams next year as well as continuing to educate Manitoba and North West Ontario golfers on the parameters of the handicap system. Respectfully Submitted, Wayne McWhirter, Chair Course Rating Committee and our Committee Members Barb Hamill John Buffie Harry Martel golfmb.ca - 6 -

Membership Committee Golf continues to be one of the most popular sports for adults in Canada. Regardless of that, a segment of golfers now chooses, for any number of reasons, not to join a traditional golf club. They love the game, but elect to play a variety of courses, rather than belong to just one. Over the past two years we have been working on the development of an updated and more equitable membership model to fit the current industry climate in Canada. After extensive consultation with Clubs and individual members we have found consensus for a new model along with a suite of new benefits. As you may be aware, over the last two years we have been testing our new business model at a few clubs in the province and we have received very positive feedback. In 2018 all clubs in the province and Northwestern Ontario were invited to transition their facility and their golfers to these new benefits and payment structure. The transition in 2018 was not mandatory. This is an increase in the dues structure and as a result, some clubs will transition in In 2018 Golf Manitoba 33 clubs remained on the Legacy (old) model and 16 clubs remained on the New model from the prior year. Eighteen clubs transitioned from the Legacy to New model in 2018 with 3642 gold memberships sold. This includes 4 Northern Ontario Clubs with 364 members. Among the highlights of the new model gold membership for the individual golfers include the following: The Golf Canada Equipment Guarantee which will reimburse the individual members up to $2500 in replacement costs for equipment (golf clubs, distance devices, etc.) that are lost, stolen or damaged, as well as any damages caused to a motorized golf cart and charged to the member. The Golf Canada Window coverage program. Golf Canada will reimburse the individual members up to $1000 for damage caused to a window on the golf course. (E.g. Pro Shop, restaurant, a house around the course itself or to a vehicle in the club parking lot.) The Golf Canada Equipment Identification and Retrieval System which provides you with identification labels for your golf equipment tied to a smart phone notification system to help reunite you with your lost equipment no matter what golf course you are playing on. Rules Education. As a Golf Canada member, you receive free access to Level 1 of Golf Canada s online rules of golf platform. Members will be provided with the rules of golf Pocket Caddie. The Great Canadian East/West contest. Individual members will be entered in to a draw to win a golf trip to either the Canadian west coast or the Atlantic provinces. In addition, individual members will have a further entry each time they post a score. Official Handicap Factor and access to the Golf Canada Score Centre to post scores. Access to the Golf Canada App and mobile websites to track their game. Tournaments. To participate in Golf Canada, Golf Manitoba events, a membership is required. Our role in this is to ensure information is communicated to both the clubs and the golfers at every level and they understand the benefits of the new model. Respectfully submitted, Susan Wright Cassan Membership Committee Chair golfmb.ca - 7 -

Officials Committee A special thanks to Dave Comaskey, who left us to join the City of Winnipeg, for all his help over the years and a warm welcome to Jared Ladobruk who has provided great assistance while getting settled into his new position. Lisa, Carol, and John did their usual fabulous job aided by Jared, and Liz. Unfortunately, Carol has chosen to retire and will be greatly missed. Thanks to all who marked the courses and prepared the Notice to Competitors. To my fellow committee members Betty Grant, Bob Fallis, Don MacDonald, and Lou Spado (who really do all the work), thank you and I hope we will continue to work together in our efficient and co-operative manner. We had a number of rules clinics during the winter that were attended by players, officials, and some who have since taken the first steps toward becoming officials. The attendance numbers increased again this year as we continued to locate at different clubs bringing out their members. This coming year we expect even greater interest as the new rules will come into effect on January 1, Golf Canada has a program for developing Rules Officials. Level 1 are offered on line through the Golf Canada website and make it easy for everyone to learn the rules while beginning the process of becoming an official. Level 2 is offered by the Provincial assoctiaton. Golf Associations and can be attended by anyone who wishes to learn more about the rules. Those who want to become certified will take the exam which does require a considerable amount of preparation, but I have found the rewards are worth the work. The last step on the ladder is Level 3 which is run by Golf Canada and is usually attempted after a year or two of working as a rules official which gives one considerable time to fully understand the rules. We encourage anyone who has completed level 1 to contact Golf Manitoba and make arrangements to ride along with one of our officials during a golf tournament. The strength of Golf Manitoba, aside from the staff members, are the volunteers who give up their time, so the golfers of Manitoba and North West Ontario have the great experience of participating in our competitions. Respectfully Submitted, James Gosman Officials Committee Chair golfmb.ca - 8 -

Player Development 2018 Junior Girls Nassau Team Based on the previous year s results the Junior Girls Team competed in the A Division in the Nassau League. With the graduation of many veteran Nassau team members the Junior Girls 2018 team was a very young and inexperienced team. The Junior Girls Team was comprised of 10 girls (including 2 girls who were 12 years old) and were very competitive in A Division. The girls finished in a tie for the last playoff position but lost the tie breaker based on the regular season match with Glendale. The Nassau League gives the girls some great experience playing against many of the top Female golfers in the province and allows the girls to play at golf courses they have never played before. Manitoba s top Female golfers can be looked upon as role models for the Junior Girls Team which is very important to their development. Brenda Prystayko continues to amaze me with her numerous hours of volunteering each year as the Non-Playing Captain of the team. Brenda is an inspiration and a fantastic role model for the girls. On behalf of Golf Manitoba, the junior girls and their parents thank you Brenda for being you! Junior Girls at the Prairie Future Links and Nationals Congratulations to Bobbi Uhl for her 3 rd place finish (77, 78, 80=235) at the 2018 Prairie Future Links at the Portage GC. Three Manitobans competed at the 2018 Canadian Junior Girls Championship at the Beach Grove GC in Tsawwassen, BC. After a tough first round all 3 girls made a nice improvement the 2 nd day but missed the cut. Bobbi Uhl ( ), Kate Gregoire (92-84=176) and Mikyla Albert (95-86=181) all did a great job in representing Manitoba Junior Boys Mundie Putter Teams The 2018 season saw the boys Mundie Putter League expanding to 2 Junior Teams. One team competed in the A Division and the other competed in the B Division. The extra Junior Team gave additional junior golfers some outstanding opportunities competing in the Mundie Putter League and was viewed as a tremendous success. The Junior Black team competed in the B Division and was very competitive. The squad was in playoff contention throughout the entire season and finished in 4 th place. The Junior Gold team competed in the A Division and had an excellent year finishing in 6 th place before losing out to Elmhurst in the first round of the playoffs. Junior Boys at the Future Links and Nationals There were many Manitobans at the top of the leader board at the Prairie Future Links in Portage in Congratulations to Wesley Hoydalo who won the Championship with an outstanding score of =208 giving Wesley a 3 shot victory. Congratulations to Sylvain Ruest ( =220) and Jacob Armstrong ( =220) for finishing T4th and earning a spot in the 2018 Canadian Junior Championships. Other Manitobans who finished in the top 10 were Brady Bandura 7 th ( =221) and Jordon McDonald T10th ( =227). golfmb.ca - 9 -

A total of 8 Junior boys earned a spot at the 2018 Canadian Junior Championship in Medicine Hat Alberta. Manitoba s team of Ryan McMillan, Jacob Armstrong and Josh Shuster had a strong showing, finishing in 4 th place in the team competition. Individually, Ryan McMillan had a tremendous Championship finishing in a tie for 4 th place with a score of =285. In addition to Ryan, 2 other Manitobans made the two-day cut. Wesley Hoydalo finished in T51st ( =300) and Josh Shuster finished in 6rd place ( =303). Other Manitobans were Anthony Leicht (76-77=153), Braxton Kuntz (73-82=155), Jacob Armstrong (76-79=155), Sylvain Ruest 76-80=156 and Brady Bandura ( ). Future Links Driven by Acura Programming Grassroots programming (Active start and Fundamental stage of the Long-Term Player Development Plan) is an important aspect of Golf Manitoba s programming. Golf Manitoba conducts clinics and has equipment available on loan at no charge to elementary aged children throughout Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario. Over the years Golf Manitoba has been fortunate to have such quality young people conduct our Golf in Schools and Future Links Programming. Garrett Hudson has done an amazing job the past two years. Garrett is a great promoter of the game and has a passion to introduce the game in a fun and safe manner to elementary age kids throughout Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario. Thank you, Garrett, for your passion and commitment to over 7000 children who were involved in Golf Manitoba programming in PGA of Canada Golf Professional, Glen Sirkis has done a terrific job with the Learn to Golf Stage of the Long-Term Player Development Plan. Golf Manitoba has partnered with Glen, the City of Winnipeg and the University of Manitoba s Mini U programs for many years. Glen conducts numerous weeklong camps throughout Winnipeg and does a fantastic job getting young children comfortable and golf course ready. Many of Glen s students have moved on to compete at Golf Manitoba and Maple Leaf Junior Tour events. Thank you, Glen, for your passion experience and knowledge that you deliver to many junior golfers. Respectfully submitted, Garth Goodbrandson Director of Player Development Golf Manitoba golfmb.ca

For the fiscal year ended March 31, 2018, the Board of Directors had budgeted for an Excess of Revenue over Expenses of $ 400. 20 Executive Director s Report Golf has been a big part of my life for as long as I can remember. Golf provided me an opportunity to compete as a player, it helped me find my first career with the PGA of Canada and it opened doors that helped me to develop a career in sport and recreation administration. Golf has also introduced me to countless great people many of whom remain good friends and colleagues. I cannot think of a part of my life that hasn t been influenced or touched by golf on some level and I am thrilled be able to continue my professional career with this great game. I am delighted to make this, my very first address in this report, as the Executive Director of Golf Manitoba should be recognized as a year to celebrate for our organization. We had over 8,000 members at over 75 facilities and clubs. We conducted 17 championships while showcasing 17 of our member courses. We had over 800 players compete in our events and crowned numerous individual and team champions. Teams and players traveled across the country to represent our province and placed well in highly competitive fields. We visited numerous schools and community centres and introduced golf to over 6,000 boys and girls and many of them for the very first time. We hosted rules seminars, rated courses and honoured new members into the Manitoba Golf Hall of Fame. We assisted in awarding scholarships totalling over $7,500 dollars to help support students in pursuit of their postsecondary education. We had over 80 volunteers selflessly give countless hours and travel hundreds of kilometres to aid in the delivery of our programs, events and services. We also received incredible support from our sponsors that helped to enhanced our events and championships. It was indeed a year to celebrate. Looking ahead to 2019, there are some exciting opportunities on the horizon. New rules will be introduced that will make the game more fun and enjoyable to play. We will have fully transitioned to a new membership model that delivers better value, game enhancement tools and incident protection for players. We will rate more courses, conduct our championships, award more scholarships and introduce more people to the game. I am looking forward to working with all of our stakeholders, our staff and our volunteers as we strive meet our vision to be the center of excellence that delivers quality, innovative and accessible golf programs and services in Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario. I would like to express my sincere thanks to the Officers and Board of Directors for the opportunity they have given me to work for Golf Manitoba. I would also like to thank and commend the Golf Manitoba Staff of Garth Goodbrandson, Lisa Anderson, John Lamarche and Carol Muzychka for their dedication this past season. Their professionalism and work ethic contributed to another successful year for Golf Manitoba and during a period of major transition. Lastly, I would like to thank and welcome the newest member the Golf Manitoba Team, Liz Singayan, who joins us as our new Office Administrator. Liz brings with her a wealth of experience and knowledge and has been a big contributor to our success and after only a few months on the job. Last but not least, I want to express my sincere gratitude and thanks to our amazing group of volunteers. I want to thank you for the time, the commitment and the work that you generously donate as a member of our team. Your contributions are invaluable as it helps us in achieving our goals of developing, promoting, governing and servicing the game of golf for our stakeholders.
