I would like to thank all of you for your patience these past few weeks while I have been getting up to speed in the office. I am very excited to be a part of the Club team! I look forward to the opportunity to get to know all of our wonderful members and I will do my best to support MCC running smoothly and successfully. For those of you whom I have not yet met, my name is Sarah Boggs and I moved back to Manhattan with my family within the last year. I spent my college years here attending K-State and I love the atmosphere of this dynamic community. My husband is also a K-State graduate and we look forward to raising our two daughters here at "home". Golf is in full-swing here at the Club with the Men's Member Guest having had a successful showing. Congratulations to the gentlemen on defeating The Eagle Bend Golf Course on our own turf and good luck on their goal of winning the Kansas Cup. Don't forget about the Men s Member-Member tournament coming up July 18 th thru the 20th! The rains in June have been trying at times, but it is keeping the course lush and green. The pool has been busy so far this summer with swim lessons and the new water aerobics instructor, Charlotte Braddock, she is doing a great job! The Great MCC Gatsby Party was postponed, but I look forward to that event popping up on the calendar at a later time. We are very excited about the July 3rd Dinner Buffet and Fireworks as well as all of the recreational activities going on that day! July 4th also offers the Poolside Buffet from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Coming up this month we have the Dive-In Movie at the pool, a great family event with Rio 2 on the big screen; and in August the Drive-In Movie on the driving range featuring Caddyshack. The FAC pot continues to grow...remember to join us by 6p.m. sharp for your chance to win! FAC is a great way for potential members to visit the Club and gain information about joining in the fun! Membership is going strong, but we continue to ask for your support to invite friends and colleagues to be a part of the Club experience. If I can help a new recruit by offering a tour or providing membership information, send them my way! If you have not had a chance to come to the pool and enjoy the refreshing water, new menu items, and cold drinks there s not a more perfect time than now. A reminder for everyone to come out and enjoy the 3rd and 4th of July festivities. It will be an amazing few days of fun, fireworks, and great food! Feel free to make your reservations with Sarah in the office. I would like to thank everyone who attended the Men's Member Guest tournament last month. Everyone had a fantastic time. 13 A Letter from Our Golf Pros Greetings Manhattan Country Club Members! I hope that this message finds you all doing well. We have just completed a successful Men's Member Guest and are looking forward to the rest of the golf events this season. It appears as if the summer heat is here but I'm certain we will still have some nice golf days. The month of July brings a few events that I would like to make you aware of, On Friday, July 4th we will be holding a Flag Day event. For this event, you may make your own group and your own tee time as well. July 18th-20th we will have the Men's Member-Member and on Sunday, July 27th the Ladies Member-Member will be played. Sign-up sheets are in the Golf Shop for both of the Member-Member events. Should you have any questions on these events or would like to sign up, please call the Golf Shop at (785) Thanks for your time and have a great day! Blake Graham PGA Head Professional Summer time is here! So far, our season has gone according to plan. With timely rains in June, the turf is healthy heading into the summer stress. The rough has also been healthy, as we have been trying to keep up with mowing routines, keeping it at a manageable height for play. With that, we have been mowing the rough twice a week weather permitting. We would also like to thank those who helped with the Sand and Seed party on June 10 th. Your help was greatly appreciated! Like most years in Kansas, July is the beginning of the hot, dry season. We will do our best to manage the water output to the best of our ability to continue to provide the best conditions for your golfing enjoyment at Manhattan Country Club. 14 A Message from our General Manager General Manager s Message A special thank you to Mark McKain and his golf course maintenance staff for the superb conditions the course is in this year. I ve had numerous compliments from the members and guests that enjoyed the Men s Member-Guest Tournament, as well as several others. The timely rains have certainly helped and we re looking forward to a reduced water bill for the month of June. Please plan to attend our biggest celebration of the year on July 3 rd & 4 th. Reservation are important if you plan to attend the buffet dinner on the evening of the 3 rd so please call now and we ll have your table ready when you arrive. The Chef has created an excellent menu sure to please your whole crowd. We have several activities lined up for the children that evening and the fireworks start around 9:30. Please bring your blankets or lawn chairs and enjoy the show. Watch the newsletter and blast for all of the other activities going on around the Club this summer and please support them when you can.
