I encourage you to participate in club activities and take advantage of all of the programs the club provides throughout the year. The opening of the 13th green this Spring has generated much positive feedback as we continue to update the golf course with a thoughtful approach. We have a lot to be proud of with the condition of our golf course and there is no doubt we are among the best in New England. Our golf schedule is full of fun and exciting tournaments, events and programs for the season. 3 LETTERS FROM KIRKBRAE recreational events. We encourage all of our members to register on the secure My Kirkbrae portal of our website and ensure that all of your family s information is current.especially addresses. We hope to have both the primary member and spouses on file so that we are sure to get club s to everyone s inbox! I look forward to seeing all of you around the club enjoying everything that Kirkbrae has to offer. Thank you for all of your continued support of the club! MIKE BRADSHAW, PGA HEAD GOLF PROFESSIONAL As we look forward to the Summer of 2017 here at the club, I'm truly excited about all we have here at the club. The club s philosophy of constant improvement over the years is truly paying dividends and is being noticed throughout the region. Our facility is the envy of most clubs while our golf course is again and again mentioned as one of the best in New England. Add in our pool/tennis facility and a healthy, vibrant, youthful membership and Kirkbrae is truly the place to be!! What a place it will be this Summer. While I m not going to bore you with all the details of all our golf programming---you can see that later in this newsletter but I am going to take some time to highlight a few offerings that are adding excitement here at the club. Rest assured that everything we do, whether it's new programming, an update to our tournament offerings, a focus on clubfitting in the golf shop or even an update on the range, we have one goal in mind to make this game that we all enjoy more enjoyable. The first is the reemergence of Get Golf Ready (or Golf 101 as I like to call it) for our new lady golfers. This 4-session introduction to golf shows our brand new lady golfers all of the ins and outs of the game here at Kirkbrae. We don't only teach the basics of the swings, but we cover all of the intricacies of club life, even down to a guided tour of the course and any applicable rules that even the novice golfer needs to know. All of this while also building the basics of the golf swing for all participants. Secondly, for the men, we ve introduced the Sunset League on Thursday evenings. Playing on most Thursdays at 6pm, this league is the ultimate in flexibility play whatever weeks you want, and don't have to decide until the day of!! Plus, you have the added bonus of different teams each and every week a golf mixer of sorts. And for the youngsters, we have another summer full of activity planned. Starting for the youngest golfers (ages 3-6) with SNAG at the pool up to our Kirkbrae Junior Tour (KJT) events for the high-schoolers, there's definitely something for all of the kids. Not to mention we once again are one of only two Rhode Island private clubs to host two PGA Junior League teams for the 8-13 year olds Like I said, it's quite a place to be! Golf is really the only sport that you can play from your toddler years through your golden years. It's truly the game of a lifetime and our goal here at the club is to make it such for all of the members of your family. SUMMER 2017 KIRKBRAE NEWSLETTER 3

4 LETTERS FROM KIRKBRAE Rest assured that everything we do, whether it's new programming, an update to our tournament offerings, a focus on clubfitting in the golf shop or even an update on the range, we have one goal in mind---to make this game that we all enjoy more enjoyable. To make the game we truly love a true love for everyone here at the club, no matter what your score is. And to give each and every player at Kirkbrae the reason that one drive, that one shot, that one putt---to come back and play the next day. Because Kirkbrae is the place to be---and we want EVERYONE to know it!! MARK A. RICHARD, CGCS GOLF COURSE SUPERINTENDENT On a much brighter note, the renovation of the thirteenth hole would seem to be an undeniable success according to all the feedback that you have given. As the project went on last Fall I had mentioned many times that the membership was going to enjoy it even more than the renovation of the seventh green. Well we are full speed ahead with the 2017 Season. Well, at least the work season is in full swing. We have not seen much in the way of ideal golfing weather to this point. I have a feeling that it may be one of those summers where we stay in this dreary cycle. The schedule has been a huge challenge to date and already a few events have been moved forward on the calendar. We are a bit behind with some of our scheduled applications to our playing surfaces but we continue to push forward. The guys are already programmed mentally. They come in, don the rain gear and off they go. Yeah, it just feels like one of those years. On a much brighter note, the renovation of the thirteenth hole would seem to be an undeniable success according to all the feedback that you have given. We still would like to do some sodding to the back of the green and may find that window within the next few weeks. As the project went on last Fall I had mentioned many times that the membership was going to enjoy it even more than the renovation of the seventh green. That seems to be true. The hole remains a challenge as it always was, it s just a whole lot fairer and, I believe, much more fun to play. We have just completed another state championship, that being the State Fourball, and we received a lot of positive comments from the participants. This is the type of event that I consider to be one of our best marketing tools. These players leave here after a great experience and bring it home to their clubs. Slowly the golf community is learning what we have known all along. Kirkbrae is a great experience for all who enjoy the game of golf as well as all the other amenities and comradery that surround that. So it s always a ton of work to host one of these events, but we always strive to present the golf course in a way that makes the membership proud. I have always made it a habit to give a shout out to my staff. They are all hard working and deserve credit and recognition for their consistent strong efforts. Many have come and gone now over these many years but there are two individuals I must recognize. Assistant Superintendent Peter Wood and Equipment Manager David Rizzini have been loyal employees of this club for many, many years. They were here in the early days, (25-30 years ago) and have seen us through the many changes 4 FOLLOW US ON FACEBOOK TO STAY UP TO DATE ON EVENTS

5 LETTERS FROM KIRKBRAE that have occurred. From moving our facility to its current location to working where needed in clubhouse construction and landscaping. They have been here for golf course improvements such as golf hole renovations, new pumping stations, new irrigation system. The great tree thinning project of 2010 comes to mind. You name it and they have been here and been involved. This club is fortunate to have this type of expertise and dedication on board. I tell them of my appreciation every day. I want to make sure they are never forgotten in this great ride we have been on. From where I sit, they have been as influential in this clubs success as anyone has. To that end I tip my cap and thank them for their many years of dedicated service. MILLIE OZIEMBLEWSKI PRESIDENT KIRKBRAE WOMAN S GOLF ASSOCIATION It is with great enthusiasm that we welcome back all of our members to what looks like is going to be a fun and exciting 2017 golfing season. I would like to extend an open invitation to all Kirkbrae women to come and discover the KWGA. We started our season back in May with an ABCD tournament followed by our Spring meeting. Both events were well attended Golf Books were distributed. If you missed the meeting and would like a copy please see the pro shop staff. It is going to be a fun and exciting 2017 golfing season. I would like to extend an open invitation to all Kirkbrae women to come and discover the KWGA. Terry Beck and her committee have put together a fun Thursday Tournament schedule for the season. Our first event, the Bring a Friend outing was held on Thursday, June 1st. This is really a fun event for golfers of all levels. We have organized a 9-hole league in conjunction with Thursday events so for those members that are only available to play 9 holes there is a way to still join in on the fun! We also have three member-guest events scheduled for the summer; June 29, 2-Day Member Guest on July 18-19, and August 24. All events are coordinated with great themes, prizes and lunch - come join us! Finally, we are proud to have a better presence on our Kirkbrae.com website. Thank you to Lisa Corrigan to coordinating this with the club. Check out the Member Central portion of the website to learn more about KWGA events throughout the season. Please feel free to contact me or any board members with questions, concerns or comments. SUMMER 2017 KIRKBRAE NEWSLETTER 5

7 NEW 2017 GOLF PROGRAMS SUNSET LEAGUE NEW You ve heard of the Sunrise League now for our non-early risers, we have the Sunset League. SUNSET LEAGUE THURSDAYS 6:00 PM Shotgun Start Respond to the Golf Genius by Noon or Call Ext 3 to Sign Up. $10 per person per week Playing on Thursday evenings (6pm shotgun start) throughout the season, this men s league is open to all men golfing members. Things couldn t get any easier than this league: No commitment to the entire season Just sign up for the weeks you want to play and show up. No trying to find a team Players will be assigned teammates on a week-to-week basis and will compete in different 2-person and 4-person formats throughout the year. No up-front league fees Since you don t know how many weeks you will play, why pay for the entire season? It s a $10 fee for every week you play, with weekly prizes paid out plus a yearly bonus pool So how does it work? Well, 7 days prior to each league day, you will receive a Golf Genius invite to play. Simply click on Accept any time before noon on Thursday of play and you're in it s that simple. Even if you don t know ahead of time whether you can play or not, you ll have until noontime to commit to the 6pm shotgun. Teams will then be formulated and the golf will begin at 6pm sharp. Formats will be different from week to week as will foursomes and partners. Everyone will be playing on a team for weekly prizes but the year-long competition will be based upon how many points each individual player earns in his events played-think of It as a Kirkbrae s version of the PGA Tour s FedEx Cup. In a nutshell, it s a great way to play a little extra golf on Thursday evenings in a fun and not-too-competitive environment. League play will begin on Thursday, May 18th and since it s the first week, we are going to start signups early to give everyone a little extra time to get acclimated to things.
