1 Serving the Community since 1985 In Gear R O T A R Y C L U B O F B E A U M A R I S W E E K L Y B U L L E T I N Number 34, 16 March 2015 Presidents Report Reflecting on the past week, I can honestly say a lot has happened and engaged the club almost to the limit of our resources. Firstly on behalf of all the club members, let me wish our hard working editor of In Gear, David Lea a very quick recovery. Thirty six of us have spent an enjoyable three days at District Conference in Ballarat. We had a good mix of golf, enlightenment, fellowship, networking and fun. Beaumaris won the golf day again. The theme of the Six Areas of Focus for Rotary delivered some varied and interesting speakers. At the dinner, Under the Southern Cross, we didn t win the costume prize, but we were certainly the brightest in the room in our Surf Lifesaver outfits and everyone had a great night. Next year we are at Shepparton on March 18 th to 20 th (Friday pm, Saturday and Sunday am). The theme for the dinner is My Favourite TV Show, so put your thinking caps on and mark your 2016 calendar with these dates. We have reserved 25 rooms at the Quest Apartments in Shepparton. Our club members who didn t go to conference were kept busy as well. From all I can tell so far, they delivered what can only be described as the First and Best Farmer s Market ever!!! The attendance was fantastic, the weather was perfect, the stall holders were very happy, to the point that we have a waiting list now for the next market. I will let Peter Flude and Heather Chisholm update us all in more detail. Thank you to all who have delivered for the club an outstanding new event which I am certain will turn out to be much more than just fundraising. Nicole Stewart will be speaking to us this week on Performance Management. David Langworthy will chair the meeting. Beaumaris Farmers Market -a Beaumaris Rotary Project Held Saturday 14th March and featuring the following: A crowd exceeding 2,000 patrons. Gross returns to our Club just under $5,000.

Many thanks to Heather and team who did an outstanding job on the day. Regional Farmers Markets, who organise the stalls, said it was their best market ever [15 years]. We will be having a sausage sizzle at the next Market. Will need about 15 helpers for next Marketvolunteers please to Heather or Peter. School delighted with outcome. Heather and Ken will be holding a debriefing at 6.00pm on Thursday at VGC. In summary-an absolutely outstanding event following 12 months preparation. District Conference Ballarat 2015 The disappointing number of golfers did in no way detract from the challenge of Buninyong golf course and the wonderful hospitality shown by President Ron, Club

Those who started on the 10th benefited from climbing the mountainous first few holes early and with plenty of time to recover on the much flatter front nine. This obviously suited James and Roy who galloped away with the team and now obsolete District Trophy with a 4BBB score of 43. James also had the best individual score for the day who was presented with his prizes by, not only the DG, but also RIPPR Bill Boyd A number of non- golfers swelled dinner patrons to over 40 and all enjoyed the variety of the menu for the two course meal cooked by the ladies auxiliary. You ve got to love these country courses and the involvement of huge numbers of volunteers. It was disappointing to hear David Tolstrup say on Saturday the there would not be a golf day at the conference which would be replaced by a District Golf day in April However a number of clubs have indicated that they would still like to play golf before next year s Shepparton conference so a new group DRAGG s has been formed to explore options in Tatura, Mooroopna of Shepparton for next year. Watch this space. After a fair bit of cloak and dagger and secrecy it was revealed that the club dinner would take place across the road from our Motel at Sovereign Hill and that the bus was in fact of the walking variety (except for Shirley Mirams who was transported by car). So after a hearty 5 minute walk, 36 members and partners were led to the Charlie Napier Hotel where we were served some appetisers and allowed to quench our thirst with a cleansing ale or a cheeky little chardonnay. The group were then taken to a Gold Pour where we were entertained by a very knowledgeable fellow who not only displayed the process for extracting the gold and making an ingot worth over $100,000 but some of us were given the opportunity to hold it (with a gun held to your head of course). We then returned to the Charlie Napier where we enjoyed an excellent meal which was interrupted however by the arrest of one of our party. The Trooper (who would only provide his first name Mick) arrested and put in handcuffs Wolfe Fritz on the outrageous charge of Conspiracy to Impersonate a First Lady. It took all of Trish s skills and feminine charms (and every dollar she had in Wolfe s wallet) to eventually get Wolfe released into her care. It was a great way to start a conference, see a small part of Sovereign Hill in magic weather and with great company. Thanks to everyone who attended. PP Robert Page 4
