PREAMBLE The ZANEF Show Jumping Grading and Horse and Athlete Registration Rules are designed to promote fair competition whilst at all times protecting the welfare of the Horse and athlete. Every eventuality cannot possibly be covered in written rules and where the situation arises that ZANEF Rules and Regulations and/or FEI Rules and Regulations are silent, the rules must be interpreted in the spirit of good sportsmanship and fair play. They must be read in conjunction with the ZANEF Constitution 2014 and all other ZANEF Rules and Regulations iii

CHAPTER 1. ADULT, JUNIOR AND PONY RIDER COMPETITIONS 1. There are no restrictions on the heights of Horses that may be ridden in Adult and Junior competitions, but in Pony Rider competitions no Athlete may ride a Horse that exceeds 150cm. 1.1 Pony Rider to Young Athlete A Pony Rider is a child under 12 years of age, and as such, a Pony Rider can only ride a pony, and can only compete in pony classes. A Pony Rider ceases to be a Pony Rider on the 1 st January after reaching the age of 12 years, when he/she becomes a Young Rider. A Young Rider can ride a pony in a Pony Rider class or a horse in a Junior/Adult class. A Young Rider ceases to be a Young Rider on 1 st January after reaching the age of 14 years, when he/she becomes a Junior Rider. A Junior Rider can ride a pony or a horse in a Junior/Adult class. A Young Rider may apply to the committee to opt up to Junior Rider on his/her 13th birthday. In exceptional circumstances, where a child under 12 years of age is riding a horse, the Executive Committee may use its discretion to allow the child to compete as a Young Rider in a Junior/Adult class. However, the child would not be permitted to ride a horse in a pony class. 1.2 Junior Athlete to Adult Athlete A Junior Athlete ceases to be a Junior Athlete on 1 st January after reaching the age of 17 years, when he/she becomes an Adult Athlete. An Adult Athlete can ride a pony or a horse in an Adult class. He/she may opt to stay a Junior Athlete until 1st January following his/her 18th birthday. 1

CHAPTER 4 QUALIFYING ROUNDS, PLACE POINTS, COMPETITIONS & CONDITIONS Horses can compete in their registered grade, in any height above their registered grade and also in one height below their registered grade in unrestricted classes. 4.1 Qualifying Rounds and Place Points 1. Horses can gain either Qualifying Rounds or Place Points in a single competition, never both. 2. Horses lent to visiting riders from other National Federations (NFs) do not gain Place Points or Qualifying Rounds. 3. In the event of a tie all parties will receive the same amount of Place Points earned. 4. Qualifying Rounds and Place Points are all recorded as points and all go towards the 30 point target. 4.2 Qualifying Rounds 1. Qualifying Round points are awarded as follows: one point to Horses that complete the first round of a Table A competition without incurring any penalties, providing the course consists of a minimum of 10 numbered fences including a combination. As far as competitions in two phases are concerned, clear means clear in all phases. 4.3 Place Points 1. Horses can only gain Place Points in the grade they are registered in. 2. If a Horse competes in a higher grade any Place Points gained are recorded in their registered grade. 3. Place Points are awarded according to the place achieved in a class according to the table below: Place Points Table No. Of Starters 1st 2nd 3rd 4th 5th Over After a Horse gains 30 points in their grade they go up to the next grade on the next grading day. 4.4 Horses Competing Below Their Registered Grade and Unrestricted Classes A Horse competing in a height below their registered grade i.e. in an unrestricted class are not awarded any points. Horses competing in a grade lower than their registered grade cannot compete in any restricted classes (which may include championship classes) according to the show schedule. Unrestricted classes do not carry prize money but may award rosettes and prizes in kind. 6

4.5 Points Awarded in Handicap Competitions No Place Points will be awarded in competitions that have multiple classes/grades joined into one competition but may be used as Qualifying Rounds if the course is altered so each Horse is jumping the height it is registered. 4.6 Open Events Open Events are events that allow any member to enter at any height. Athletes and Horses do not have to qualify or be registered in any particular grade. Age restrictions do not apply. Place Points will be awarded in Open Events e.g. The Gauntlet, WSJC, ICC and other mixed Open classes if jumping heights equal or higher as the Horses registered grade. Qualifying Round points may be awarded if jumping heights equal or higher as the Horses registered grade. Open Events must run with an approved schedule. 4.7 Open Grades Open Grades are the top grades in each age class. Qualifying Rounds and Place Points are awarded as normal. Once a Horse has reached the Open Grades they can jump in any Open Grade height. They do gather points but are not required to move out of any Open Graded height. 4.8 Definition of a Competition A competition consists of 2 or more different athletes, however if there are less than 3 athletes in a class no Place Points will be awarded to the winner of the class but Qualifying Round points will be awarded as laid out. 4.9 Combining Junior and Adult Competition Show convenors may amalgamate Junior and Adult competitions according to heights jumped. Show organisers hold the right to divide, amalgamate or cancel any competition according to the schedule Restricted Classes Show Organisers may decide to introduce Restricted Classes that exclude Horse and athlete combinations and/or Horses that jump below their registered height. Restricted classes must be clearly declared in the schedule and may not be added once the entries to the show are closed Entry Level Horses registered with the Federation can compete at Entry Level i.e. Child 50 and 60cm Junior 70 and 80cm Adult 70 and 80cm. No points will be awarded. Entry Level athletes do not have to be members of the Federation but do have to be members of an Affiliated Club of the Federation. An Ordinary Member can compete at Entry Level if he so wishes. 7

CHAPTER 5 AWARDS 5.1 End Of Year Awards The Federation will award a certificate to the owner of the Horse and/or pony that has gained the most points for the year in their registered grade regardless of who rode it. End of Year Awards will be awarded to the owners of Horses and ponies as follows: Adult Horses Adult Open Horse of the Year Adult 120cm Horse of the Year Adult 110cm Horse of the Year Adult 100cm Horse of the Year Adult 90cm Horse of the Year Junior Junior Open Horse of the Year Junior 110cm Horse of the Year Junior 100cm Horse of the Year Junior 90cm Horse of the Year Pony Rider Pony Rider Open Pony of the Year Pony Rider 100cm Pony of the Year Pony Rider 90cm Pony of the Year Pony Rider 80cm Pony of the Year Pony Rider 70cm Pony of the Year 5.2 Leading Athlete Awards At Shows Leading athlete awards at shows will be calculated using the following table: Leading Athlete Points Table Points for leading athlete are awarded as follows. Type of Competition 1st 2nd 3rd 4th 5th 6th Normal Competition Championship 90cm (Adult & Junior) Championship 80cm (Child) Derby (Child, Junior & Midi)

Event Titled Main Event Grand Prix Main Derby Note: Young Riders are eligible for Leading Pony Rider on ponies and Leading Junior Athlete riding horses. 5.3 Other Awards Show Organisers can create other awards for their events as long as leading athlete awards are always worked out according to the table laid out above. 5.4 Show Jumper of The Year This End of Year Trophy is for the athlete who gains the most points in one year in graded jumping classes and includes all the Horses (s)he rides in classes of 100cm and above. The winner is calculated on an average of points earned and events entered. Conditions: i. The athlete must have taken part in a minimum of three different graded shows, out of which at least one must be held outside the athlete s home province. ii. The athlete must have taken part in a minimum of 10 events during the year. iii. Horses must compete in 100cm grade or above. iv. The athlete may compete on as many Horses he/she wants during the year. v. The point system is as follows: 1st place = 4 points 2nd place = 3 points 3rd place = 2 points 4th place =1 point In case of a tie in a competition, both athletes receive full points. i.e Shared 1st place gives both athletes 4 points. Only events subject to grading will be counted. The total number of points accumulated during the year are divided by the total number of events in which the athlete has taken part. N.B if an athlete has two Horses in the same class it will be counted as two events. The athlete with the highest average points wins the award. 9
