2 Sarnia Woburn Deer Mission Statement. To produce and supply a consistent and improving line of Woburn deer genetics to the market with special attention to specific production parameters. These being especially but not exclusively, live weight, fertility, antler style and calving date.

3 The Sarnia Woburn Story. Sarnia deer started 27 years ago when I purchased my first farm. I have been involved in all aspects of deer farming including commercial venison and velvet production, trophy production and in latter years a stud operation. I have sat on various committees and been involved in both branch and national level activities. In all this time in the industry, nothing has moved me quite like Woburn deer. When I started my first farm in 1990, to buy a pure Woburn animal was quite difficult and if lucky enough to find one, you would have to extend the mortgage to purchase it. In 2012 an opportunity presented itself to purchase the Woburn deer herd at Windermere. At this time Sarnia was producing English Park deer for the market and Woburn deer only contributed in conjunction with Warnham and Furzeland bloodlines. With new and old studs coming and going the decision was made to develop a Woburn bloodline at Sarnia. The process of changing from a combination of park lines to exclusively Woburn proved challenging. With only a relatively small nucleus to work from a new sire was purchased from Stanfield as a complete out cross to the existing Windermere line. This new sire was of course Pendragon who bought with him a different style of antler. Further purchases of hinds were made over the next couple of years including tactical genetics from Stanfield/Woburn and the purchase of either the whole or most of the Woburn herds at Pampas Heights, Canterbury Red Deer Stud and Westbush Deer Stud. 4 A change to a smaller property enabled a greater reduction in the composite English Park deer and a higher proportion of Woburn deer to be kept. For the last few years investment has been made in the newest semen sires purchased directly from Woburn including Torrington, Henry R, Woburn F40, Ampthill and Thorney. These sires represent cutting edge improvement at Woburn for body weights and antler. Recently two new sires have been acquired and one bred. Brand new bloodlines such as our M11 son Culloden or existing but well proven bloodlines such as Haywood son Solway purchased 2016 and Bloomsbury son Draco purchased As of January 2017 Sarnia Woburn Deer Stud came of age with only Woburn deer being farmed and produced on the property. After nearly five years of development, huge investment and some major culling for key production parameters, Sarnia is ready to meet the market as a serious producer of the best Woburn deer genetics available in New Zealand. 11 Dear Fellow Deer Farmers, Welcome to the Sarnia Woburn 2017 annual sire stag and yearling hind sale. It has been an interesting year for us, not least the decision as to whether we stick with selling 3yr sires in December or move to offering 2yr sires in January. Last season we offered both in December but to be fair the 2 year stags were just not ready. There are obviously pro s and cons either way but we have decided to continue on with 3yr sires in December. As a consequence of that decision we are a little short on numbers this year so to help with that we are also offering three older sires ( 2 x 4 yr and 1 x 5yr) as well as three stags that are not pure Woburn. Next year we will be on track with a full offering of 3yr pure Woburn sires. The stock are all looking great. The yearling hinds are all 80 kgs+ in November so will be nicely grown out by the time the roar comes around. The stags are big and glossy and include our last Castor and Porthos son s. At this stage Lot 8, in terms of sheer mass, is one of the biggest 3yr old stags I have ever bred. On the feedback front, I am pleased to report two 5yr Woburn stags sold in our 2015 sale cutting 10kgs and over this year and a stunning 6.5 kgs head cut from a 3yr Woburn stag that was sold as a 2yr stag last year to Tumunui Deer. In terms of antler, we again offer a range of styles from clean classic velvet style heads through to enormous trophy potential. it just leaves me to wish you all a happy and peaceful seasons greetings. The sale will be conducted by PGG Wrightson with the conditions of sale as set down by the Stock and Stations Agents Association, a copy of which is exhibited in the office on sale day. 2. Each lot becomes the purchaser's property and risk at the fall of the hammer. 3. Insurance facilities will be available at the Sale. 4. Terms are strictly cash unless prior arrangements are made with the auctioneers. Accounts not paid within 14 days of sale shall bear interest, at current rate per annum from the date of sale. 5.
