This levy will be used to support a number of regional and

JUMP ALBERTA LEVY Amberlea Meadows continues to support all levels of the sport in the province of Alberta. Competitors who reside in the province of Alberta and are participating at any JA tournaments are required to be a member of our provincial association, in order to compete. All competitors that reside in Alberta are required to pay a levy fee of $10 at gold competition. This fee helps to fund horse & rider development programs that will directly benefit Alberta athletes. Any competitors that do not have an EC Gold competitive sport license may purchase a temporary sport license at the show for $ A sport license upgrade fee is $20.00 from Silver to Gold/ $40.00 from Bronze to Gold. This will allow competitors to compete at a level higher than their license at a single competition. In the event a competitor does not have a passport/ valid horse recording for their horse a temporary horse registration may be purchased at the show for $ Every class offered herein is covered by the rules and specifications of the current rules of the EC and will be held and judged in accordance with the EC Rule Book. Jump With Hope for Kids With Cancer Horse Show is also sanctioned by Jump Alberta and all Alberta riders must hold a Jump Alberta Membership. Role of the Person Responsible at EC sanctioned competitions: The Person Responsible (PR) is responsible and accountable under the violation and penalty provisions of EC Rules for the care, training, custody and performance of the horse and must be present at the competition as well as sign and provide a license/member number on the competition entry form. STATEMENT OF PRINCIPLE Equestrain Canada (EC), the national equestrian federation of Canada, supports adherence to humane treatment of horses in all activities under its jurisdiction. EC is committed to: Upholding the welfare of the horses, regardless of value, as a primary consideration in all activities; Requiring that horses be treated with kindness, respect and the compassion that they deserve, and that they never be subjected to mistreatment; Ensuring that owners, trainers and exhibitors or their agents use responsible care in the handling, treatment and transportation of their horses as well as horses placed in their care for any purpose; Providing for the continuous well-being of horses by encouraging routine inspection and consultation with health care professionals and competition officials to achieve the highest possible standards of nutrition, health, comfort and safety as a matter of standard operating procedure; Continuing to support scientific studies on equine health and welfare; Increasing education in training and horsemanship practices; Requiring owners, trainers and exhibitors to know and follow their sanctioning organization s rules, and to work within industry regulations in all equestrian competition; Reviewing, revising and developing competition rules and regulations that protect the welfare of the horses. The standard by which conduct or treatment will be measured is that which a person, informed and experienced in generally accepted equine training and exhibition procedures, would determine to be neither cruel, abusive, nor inhumane. *Please note: The Person Responsible (PR) must sign the competition entry form. 8 P a g e 8 Dear Competitor; On behalf of the Edmonton Hunter Jumper Association Board of Directors, we look forward to welcoming you to the 2018 Edmonton Classic Horse Show. This horse show has been an integral part of the Edmonton hunter jumper circuit for many years. It is rich in tradition and history and is one of the longest running horse shows in Alberta. This year marks a new chapter in the history of this event, in that the venue has changed to Amberlea Meadows. It also signals a largely new board with fresh ideas and energy. We are excited to be able to continue to host this horse show and to provide you the competitor with a top quality event. Challenging courses that demand athleticism and boldness Natural and interesting jumps with greater variation in construction Judging that rewards handiness and brilliance while still emphasizing jumping style, manners, way of going and smoothness. Open to all eligible horses and riders who have competed in a least one over fences class in this competition. This class will be conducted in accordance with specifications of the Canadian Hunter Derby Series. Not rated for EC awards. The class will run at 2 heights: 1.10 m(3 6 ) with 1.15m (3 9 ) options and 0.90m (3 0 ) with 1.00m (3 3 ) options. 20 P a g e Jump Alberta Rider Recognition Program An eligible individual may win a maximum of one Jump Alberta Rider Recognition per season. Rider Recognitions are awarded to the top ranking Jump Alberta Member in the class, an eligible rider may win a Rider recognition only once within the competition year. 22 P a g e 22 MEDAL CLASSES - CET CET MEDAL CLASSES Entry fee: $35.00 Class 200 CET Medal Class Open to Gold members of Equestrian Canada and members of the Canadian Equestrian Team (EC/CET) who have not reached their 21st birthday as of January 1st. Both memberships MUST be in place in order to compete. This also applies to all foreign competitors. The class will be judged 60% over fences and 40% on the flat and will be run under jumper rules. Three entries are required to complete the course. The flat phase is to include lengthening of stride and counter canter. The course will consist of at least 10 fences 1.10m to 1.15m in height with spreads to 1.40m. A time allowed will be established based on the speed of 350 meters per minute. Change of tack is permitted between phases. NO martingales in the flat phase. Standing martingales, gags and hackamores are not permitted in the flat phase.. See Article G1109. Headgear: Conservative colored protective headgear (as per article G1104) with no additional adornments. Tack and Equipment: G1109 Only running martingales are permitted over fences. No martingales are permitted during the flat phase. Class 201 CET Mini Medal Class Entry fee: $35.00 Open to junior and amateur riders who are members of Equestrian Canada. CET membership is not required. The CET MINI MEDAL CLASS is to be held under the same rules and regulations as the CET Medal (see Article G1109) with the exception of the following: 1. There is no age limit for this class. 2. Senior riders must be amateurs as per Article G108 and possess a current EC amateur card. Note that amateur cards must be purchased annually. 3. Phase Requirements: a) Jumping phase - maximum 1.00m b) Gymnastic jumping phase - maximum 0.90m (3 ) c) Flat Phase - the counter canter is strongly recommended. 4. 23 P a g e 23 GENERAL INFORMATION JUMPER CLASSES Jumpers will be scored under Alternate Table A (FEI Article 238) Ties 1st place will be jumped off. In ties other than 1st place, money will be added together and divided equally; riders will toss a coin for ribbons. A computer draw is established daily for jumpers. Horses may be required to jump in posted order. Exhibitors riding more than one horse in any class if not listed on the entry form (i.e. catch rider) must inform the Horse Show Office one-hour before the class goes so that their rides may be spaced. At no time will the gate be held for more than five minutes due to rider trainer conflicts. Jump-off to be ridden over a shortened course. Some fences may be raised by 3. 38 P a g e 38 GENERAL RULES AND INFORMATION 1. The management reserves the right to decide any point not covered in the rules and to correct any error or make any alterations that may be necessary in the prize list. EC rules and regulations will be followed. 2. The management reserves the right to cancel or combine any class not filled to satisfaction; whereupon exhibitors will be notified as soon as possible after close of entries. Show Management reserves the right to make changes of arenas, rings, judges or class order to facilitate time schedule and weather/site conditions. 3. Inhumane treatment of a horse will not be tolerated. Violation of this rule, at the discretion of the organization committee, will result in disqualification and forfeiture of fees, all winnings and loss of entry. 4. Numbers must be worn and visible at all times in the schooling and/or exercise areas as well as in the competition ring. (A 814) Any exhibitor using a wrong number, or having no number, may be excused or disqualified from the class, at the judge s discretion. 5. Exhibitors are warned that any act of discourtesy or disobedience to the officials on the part of the owner, handler or rider, will disqualify the horse, and result in forfeiture of entry fees for subsequent classes. Management reserves the right to remove a groom, handler/ rider and/ or horse from the show, without being liable for compensation. 6. No judge shall be approached with regards to any decision during the time he is judging or is about to judge. Penalty will be disqualification from the show in its entirety. 7. The medical aid fee covers the cost of medical aid on site. The fee does not cover personal expenses incurred by the injured party in the event of an injury or transportation by ambulance. 8. No person other than officials, staff on duty, and the judges of the classes may enter the competition rings without permission of the tournament management. Competitors are allowed in the competition rings only when competing, when the course is open for walking or during scheduled schooling rounds. 9. Dogs must be on a leash at all times. For safety and sanitary reasons, no dogs will be permitted in the schooling area, show rings or show office.

39 P a g e Ponies will have the opportunity to be measured please see steward. Ponies under six years must be measured annually and will be issued a temporary measurement form. HARD HATS AND ATTIRE 1. All competitors, including foreign competitors, must wear ASTM (American Society for Testing Materials) or BSI approved helmets, with safety harness correctly fastened, at all times while mounted on the competition grounds. 2. Juniors showing any horse in a jog for soundness must wear approved protective headwear with the attached safety harness fastened. 3. Failure to comply with points 1 and 2 above in the exercise area and/or the competition arena will result in the following penalties: a) 1st violation at competition: warning b) 2nd violation at same competition: disqualification from the competition and forfeiture of all fees and prize monies 4. We would appreciate a formal turnout. Hunter Ring- braiding and hunt jackets at all times Jumper Ring- (Thursday and Friday)- Collared shirts (i.e. polo shirts) are allowed. (Saturday and Sunday)- Hunt jackets are required. ARTICLE G109 DRESS 1. All competitors must be properly dressed in the confines of the arena. This includes the inspection of the course and at the presentation of prizes. 2. Competitors should be neatly and suitably dressed in coat, shirt and tie, choker or stock, breeches or jodhpurs and boots. Black or brown smooth leather half chaps are permissible providing they match the boot color. ARTICLE G1102 HEADGEAR Conservative colored protective headgear (as per Article G1004) with no additional adornments. 3. If competitors are not suitably dressed, the judge may refuse to allow them to compete. 4. In hunter competitions, in extremely hot weather, coats are optional at the discretion of the Competition Committee. 5. In jumper competitions, in extremely hot weather, riders may, at the discretion of the Competition Committee, be permitted to wear dress or riding shirts with or without chokers and ties or open-neck polo shirts without jackets; no sweatshirts, t-shirts, tank tops or other similar dress will be permitted. Shirts must be neatly tucked into riding breeches.

40 P a g e 40 NON-SHOWING FEE There will be a non-showing fee of $50 for horses not entered in any competitions at the tournament. The non-showing fee allows use of the warm-up rings and other grounds as well as access to the rings on warm-up day. All non-showing horses are required to sign an entry waiver and wear a number at all times on the grounds. ORDER OF GO There will be an order of go for all competitions in the Grand Prix ring, orders of go will be posted at the gate. Horses will be required to jump in the posted order, in the case of a ring conflict the Grand Prix ring will have absolute priority. Post entries go first. HORS CONCOURS Hors Concours Pertaining to Jumpers -Article G Horses shall be allowed to compete Hors Concours with permission from the organizing committee but are subject to the same scoring rules as a regular entry with respect to falls, elimination etc. Such entries are not judged and are not eligible for the jump off. 2. A horse or pony that has competed Hors Concours is not allowed to compete subsequently in the same ring on the same day. 3. Hors Concours entries will follow the last regular entry in the class. 4. Hors Concours entries are not allowed in Hunter Divisions, Equitation and Medal classes. ENTRIES 1. Entries for the Edmonton Classic must use the Edmonton Classic entry from. Entry forms available on: website: http// 2. Payment must be made in full including GST. (UNLESS A CHEQUE OR VISA ACCOMPANIES AN ENTRY FORM SAID FORM SHALL BE TREATED AS A POST ENTRY). Cheque's payable to EHJA Edmonton Hunter Jumper Association. A fee of $40.00 will be charged for any NSF cheque's. 3. Entry forms must be signed. A parent/legal guardian must sign for juniors. A signature of person responsible for the care/custody and performance of the horse is also required. No numbers will be released without the required signatures. 4. Late entries may be accepted up to the date of the show, subject to the approval of the show management and must be accompanied with payment of a $50.00 late fee.

41 P a g e Substitutions / Transfer of entries/entered & Did Not Compete There will be NO office charge per add/scratch sheet if done the day before the competition starts for horses already entered prior to the closing date. All changes must be made no later than ½ hour after the last class of the day. Late and same day changes will be charged $10.00 per class/division. Any Exhibitor who does not compete in a class(es) in which the exhibitor is officially entered, and does not scratch according to the scratch procedure will be bill for the class(es). You MUST do your paperwork in the Show Office to avoid this penalty. Nominated Rings: Horses entered in the Grass Grand Prix Ring pay a nomination fee of $100. (With the exception of those entered only in Clear Round Schooling) Horses entered in Low Jumper Ring pay a nomination fee of $60.Jumper nomination fees are non-refundable. Nomination fees allow jumpers in each of these rings to move from classes and/or divisions without an add/scratch fee. 6. Please list your coach s name on the entry form, if you ride with one, to facilitate the draws for class order. ARTICLE Role of the Person Responsible at EC sanctioned competitions: The Person Responsible (PR) is responsible and accountable under the violation and penalty provisions of EC Rules for the care, training, custody and performance of the horse and must be present at the competition as well as sign and provide a license/member number on the competition entry form. *Please note: The Person Responsible (PR) must sign the competition entry form. The PR must be an EC Sport Licence Holder in good standing OR in the case of junior/minor owner entries, a parent/guardian is entitled to sign as PR. (Parents/guardians are not required to have an EC Sport License or EC Registered Participant status provided they agree to abide by the rules and penalties contained in the Rule Book and acknowledge that they are liable under the penalty provisions of the Rules for any violations of the EC Rules by their minor child). REFUNDS 7.Exhibitors cancelling their entries after the official closing date, but prior to the start of the show shall, upon presentation of a valid veterinary certificate, forfeit their stall, tack room and office fees, but will be refunded levy fees and 50% of all other fees. Substitutions will be permitted, prior to the start of the show, for a fee of $ Barn Bills & Trainers Splits: Trainers requiring barn bills should set them up at the beginning of the tournament with an open cheque or a credit card number. Trainer s splits must be done no later than Saturday of the competition.

42 P a g e 42 HORSE RECORDING/ PASSPORTS AND MEMBERSHIPS 1. Equestrian Canada Horse Recording/ Passports are mandatory for all horses and ponies entered in the Edmonton Classic Horse Show. Canadian horses competing in a EC Gold show are required to hold an EC Horse Recording and have paid the EC Horse Recording Annual Activation Fee to compete, a temporary Horse Registration may be purchased at the show for $ Horse Recording number is the control number used by EC and must be included on the entry. Horses must be entered under the name appearing on the Horse recording. (Note: Horses that formerly held EC Passports will carry the same number forward to their Horse Recording.) 2. All riders and owners must have an individual gold sport license in Equestrian Canada or be bona fide members of their own National Equestrian Federations. Rider and owner membership numbers must be submitted with entries. If no memberships are shown a Temporary Sport License Application Form must be completed and paid for before competing ($45.00). Riders and Owners (for insurance purposes) must be a member is good standing with Equestrian Canada. Numbers will not be issued to anyone not in good standing. DRUG FEES AND INSPECTION 1. Competitors will be assessed a fee of $20 for the Jump Canada Levy, $7 for drug fees, and $10 for the Jump Alberta Levy. 2. Any horse entered in any class at a competition, while on the competition grounds be selected for equine medication control testing at the event location. (A602.6) STABLING 1. Stabling is available at Amberlea Meadows for all competitors at a rate of $ GST for the duration of the show. (A603D). Hauling in for the day is allowed, and a day stall may be purchased for $75.00/day. Haul-ins are also allowed for a Haul in fee of $35 per day. Tack stalls are available. Feed and bedding is available for sale from the show office. Competitors are required to order bedding on entry form. Initial shavings orders will be delivered and subsequent orders will be ordered from office. Trainers wishing to split the cost of tack stalls must indicate on the stall request form. Permanent Stabling available, all stalls are 10x10 in size. 2. No horse will be placed in an unassigned stall without approval from management. 3. Stabling will be available from 12:00 pm May 22nd and is available until May 27, 2018

43 P a g e 43 TROPHIES, RIBBONS AND PRIZE MONEY 1. Champion and Reserve Champion will be named in all divisions. Points will be awarded to 6th place based on the following system: 1st 7 points 3rd 4 points 5th 2 points 2nd 5 points 4th 3 points 6th 1 point Jumper Championship: The Champion and Reserve Champion titles shall be awarded to the two horses that have accumulated the most points performing over fences in the division in which they are being shown. In the case of a tie for the championship there may be a jump-off after the last jumping class of the competition. Exhibitors tied for Champion or reserve may elect to jump-off or toss a coin. Hunter Championship: The Champion and Reserve Champion titles shall be awarded to the two that have accumulated the most points performing in the division in which they are being shown. In the case of a tie, the Championship and/or Reserve shall be awarded to the horse that has accumulated the most points over fences. In the event there is still a tie, the tied horses shall be shown at walk, trot, and canter to determine championship and reserve. This competition shall be judged as an independent Hunter Under Saddle class with information, quality, substance, soundness and performance to count as prescribed throughout the appropriate division. Tossing a coin to break the tie is permissible if all participants agree. 2. Ribbons will be awarded to 6th. Ribbons will be awarded to 8th place in Medal classes. 3. 45 P a g e 45 PONY HUNTERS Respective Heights Ponies that are ridden by an adult in the competition may not be ridden by a junior at the same competition. Small ponies are not to exceed 12.2 hands, medium ponies are over 12.2 hands but do not exceed 13.2 hands and large ponies are over 13.2 hands but do not exceed 14.2 hands. Ponies entered in the Small, Medium or Large Pony Hunter divisions are required to have a valid measurement card or be measured by the show steward. Sign up times for measurements are reserved through the Competition Office. Pony divisions with less than 6 entries will be combined. Pony Hunter classes are open to ponies ridden by junior rider s subject to the following restrictions: Junior A riders may ride large ponies only. Junior B & C riders may ride ponies of all heights. Adults are permitted to show (be judged) large ponies in miscellaneous non-point classes not limited to juniors and adult amateurs may ride large ponies in adult amateur classes where fences do not exceed 3 (0.90). A pony judged with an adult may not be judged in classes with a junior at the same competition. Juniors of any age may show any height of pony in miscellaneous non-point classes. SCHOOLING ROUNDS ARTICLE G1104 SCHOOLING All EC-sanctioned competitions must use current FEI schooling rules as listed. (Annex 1) These rules pertain to all hunter, equitation and jumper classes and divisions at all EC sanctioned competitions. 1.Hunter sand ring schooling rounds will be available (weather permitting) from 8:00 am until 6:00 pm on Wednesday, May 23. (Times may change slightly, subject to demand.) Schooling round times may be booked in blocks for stables. Please call the office at to book a block time. Individual rounds may also be booked at the in gate. All competitors wishing to school must have a schooling pass. The horse must have its competitions number on. Pass price $30.00 /horse. 2. Grass Hunter ring- Ticketed schooling rounds will be available (weather permitting) from 8:00am until 6:00 pm on Wednesday May 23rd. (Times may change slightly, subject to demand.) Ticketed schooling round price: $25.00/ round 2. Grass Grand Prix Ring & Low Jumper Schooling Classes: Clear Round classes will be scheduled in the grass grand prix ring & Low Jumper Ring over a prescribed course on Wednesday, May 23 rd starting at 9:30am. Class entry fee is $40 each. (see classes # Grand Prix) (see classes Low Jumper) (There will be no nomination fee for competitors competing in the schooling rounds. RV PARKING Campers or motor homes are to be parked in the southwest parking lot by the arena, where plug-ins are available for $150/ week + GST. No RV s with propane tanks will be allowed to park within 50 feet of any building to avoid potential fire risk. Showers are available for public use in the main barn area. A septic tank dumping station is also available for use. Please contact office to reserve your RV spot. LOST AND FOUND Lost and found is located in the office. Items not claimed within two weeks of the end of the competition will be donated. MOTORIZED VEHICLES Minors who do not have a valid driver s license which allows them to operate a motorized vehicle in the province in which they reside will not be permitted to operate a motorized vehicle of any kind, including, but not limited to, golf carts, motorcycles, scooters, or farm utility vehicles, on the competition grounds of licensed competitions. Minors who have a valid temporary license may operate the above described motorized vehicles as long as they are accompanied by an adult with a valid driver s license. The parent(s), legal guardians(s), or individual who signs the entry blank as a parent or guardian of a minor operating a motorized vehicle in violation of this rule are solely responsible for any damages, claims, losses or actions resulting from that operation. Violations of this rule will be cause for sanctions against the parent(s), guardian(s) and/or trainer(s) who are responsible for the child committing the offence. Wheelchair and other mobility assistance devices for individuals with disabilities are exempt from this rule. BIOSECURITY Bio Security is everyone s responsibility! Amberlea Meadows is committed to providing a safe and healthy environment for all exhibitors and their horses. All show participants are requested to practice good disease prevention practices. Travelling and showing horses are at an increased risk for spreading and contracting contagious diseases. All horses entering the show grounds must not

All horses are required to be verifiably current on Influenza and EHV 1-4 vaccines. (within 6 months). Please avoid any direct or indirect contact between horses, in particular nose to nose contact and use of any common feed/drinking buckets. The early detection of any contagious disease is the key to prevention of a disease outbreak. Following these simple requirements will be a major step in the prevention of the spread of disease.
