EC is committed to: Upholding the welfare of the horses, regardless of value, as a primary consideration in all activities; Requiring that horses be treated with kindness, respect and the compassion that they deserve, and that they never be subjected to mistreatment; Ensuring that owners, trainers and exhibitors or their agents use responsible care in the handling, treatment and transportation of their horses as well as horses placed in their care for any purpose; Providing for the continuous well-being of horses by encouraging routine inspection and consultation with health care professionals and competition officials to achieve the highest possible standards of nutrition, health, comfort and safety as a matter of standard operating procedure; Continuing to support scientific studies on equine health and welfare; Requiring owners, trainers and exhibitors to know and follow their sanctioning organization s rules, and to work within industry regulations in all equestrian competition; Reviewing, revising and developing competition rules and regulations that protect the welfare of the horses. The standard by which conduct or treatment will be measured is that which a person, informed and experienced in generally accepted equine training and exhibition procedures, would determine to be neither cruel, abusive, nor inhumane. 2

3 WELCOME OUR JUDGES William Lee Tubman (CAN) - FEI 3* Canadian National Grand Prix Champion and USDF Gold Medallist William Lee Tubman travels across Canada, USA and South America for dressage clinics and judging assignments. He was a member of Team Canada at the 2012 and 2013 Wellington Nations Cup CDIO 3*, long listed multiple times, won NAYRC Gold & Bronze medal. As a EC High Performance/Level III coach, Lee was named 3M Corporation Canadian Coach of the Year, has produced Provincial and National Champion students and coached 6 riders to NAYRC. He has 30 years experience in judging and is now based in Wellington, Florida. John McPherson (CAN) - USEF S John McPherson, FEI Competitor, Trainer, Level III Dressage Coach & Senior Judge is a multi-year "listed" rider who has represented Canada internationally for more than 25 years, and has twice won the Bronze Medal at the CDI-W Dressage at Devon. John s background to Dressage began with Christilot Boylen. He took his horse Grace to Germany, training with Christie and Udo Lange. John has competed trough out North America and Europe. As a coach he has worked intensively in Canada, the United States, Spain and South Africa. SHOW HIGHLIGHTS NEW! SCHOOLING CLASS For non-competing (schooling) horses only. Select any current EC dressage test; your performance will be judged and commented on by one show judge. Ten (10) minutes assigned per rider. ASSUMPTION OF RISKS I am aware that my participation in equestrian activities involves many risks, dangers, and hazards, which could result in damage, loss or physical injury to me, as well as damage or injury to animals owned by me. Some of these risks, dangers and hazards include, but are not limited to: Health: the risk of injury from the activities involved in this program is significant, including the potential for permanent paralysis and death, and while particular rules, equipment, and personal discipline may reduce this risk, the risk of serious injury does exists Premises: defective, dangerous or unsafe condition of the facilities, falls, collisions with objects, equipment or persons Use of Equipment: mechanical failure of the equipment; negligent design or manufacture of the equipment; the provision of or the failure by the Releasees to provide any warnings, directions, instructions or guidance as to the use of the equipment, failure to use or operate the equipment within my own ability Advice: negligent advice regarding equestrian activities My conduct and conduct of other persons; I acknowledge that such conduct, including my negligence and negligence of other persons, including NEGLIGENCE ON THE PART OF THE RELEASEES, may increase the risk of damage, loss, personal injury or death. RELEASE OF LIABILITY, WAIVER OF CLAIMS AND INDEMNITY AGREEMENT In consideration of the Releasees, allowing me to participate in equestrian activities, use its equipment and facilities and providing its equine services and consultation, I hereby agree as follows: 1.TO WAIVE ANY AND ALL CLAIMS that I have or may in the future have against THE RELEASEES AND TO RELEASE THE RELEASEES from any and all liability for any loss, damage, expense or injury including death that I may suffer or that my next-of-kin may suffer as a result of my participation in equestrian activities DUE TO ANY CAUSE WHATSOEVER, including but not limited to: Negligence on the part of the Releasess; Breach of contract by the Releasees; Breach of warranty on the part of the Releasees in respect of the design, manufacture, selection, installation, maintenance or adjustment of equipment; Breach of any statutory or other duty of care including any duty of care owed under the Occupiers Liability Act, R.S.B.C c. 303, on the part of the Releasees; and Failure on the part of the Releasees to safeguard or protect me from the risks, dangers and hazards of equestrian activities, some of which are referred to in the Assumption of Risks section of this Agreement. 2. TO HOLD HARMLESS AND INDEMNIFY THE RELEASEES from any and all liability for any damage, loss, expense or injury to any third party resulting from my participation in equestrian activities. 3. Despite the risks, dangers and hazards of equestrian activities, and fully understanding such risks, dangers and hazards, I wish to participate in equestrian activities with the Operator, and I FREELY ACCEPT AND FULLY ASSUME all such risks, dangers and hazards and the possibility of personal injury, death, property damage and loss resulting there from. 4. This Agreement shall be effective and binding upon my heirs, next-of-kin, executors, administrators, assigns and representatives, in the event of my death or incapacity. SAFETY: I am familiar with the rules and regulations regarding the use of the facility. I am aware that there are staff available during office hours to answer any questions I may have as to the proper use of the facility. In entering into this Agreement I am not relying on any oral, visual or written representations or statements made by the Releasees with respect to the safety of other than what is set forth in this Agreement. INSURANCE: I am aware that the Releasees do not provide me with any disability, accident, liability or medical insurance or compensation, should I become injured or cause personal injury or property damage to any third party while participating in equestrian activities. JURISDICTION: This Agreement and any rights, duties and obligation as between the parties to this Agreement shall be governed by and interpreted solely in accordance with the laws of the Province of British Columbia, and I agree to attorn solely to the jurisdiction of the Courts of The Province of British Columbia. Suitability as a dressage horse, quality of paces, and correctness of schooling are rewarded. The tests have a strong component of material requirements and the judge will be lenient on those young horse bobbles. Requiring NO passport, riders/owners/trainers must be HCBC members, no gold licence required. Horses will ride a test supplied by the show which is reflective of the Pacific Region rather than world class competition - NO CROSS ENTRY WITH FEI YOUNG HORSE CLASSES. Please submit a copy of horse s registration papers with entry. The Blue Heron classes do not have a Championship. Not rated for EC Awards. 12 Championship Criteria Training to Fourth Level: Awarded based on the combined total of the top 2 percentage technical scores from the designated Championship Classes ( C ), one of which must be Test 3 of the level (Training -Fourth Level : Combined Scores Test 2 & Test 3) FEI Youth (Child, Pony, Junior or Young Rider): Awarded based on the combined total of top 2 percentage technical scores, 1 Individual and 1 Team from the designated Championship Classes (C) FEI Small Tour - Amateur/Open: Awarded based on the combined top 2 percentage technical scores of Prix St Georges and Intermediate I from the Championship Classes. FEI Medium Tour - Open: Awarded based on the combined top 2 percentage technical scores of Open Intermediate A and Open Intermediate B from the Championship Classes. FEI Big Tour - Open: Awarded based on the combined top 2 percentage technical scores of Intermediate II, Open Grand Prix, and/or Open Grand Prix Special designated Championship Classes. Freestyle: Champion for each Level First to Fourth, PE, FEI Youth, FEI Intermediate 1, FEI Grand Prix, details see fine print below. FEI PE: Combined scores from both classes Team and Individual count towards placing. Championships and Reserve Championships will be awarded once they are confirmed and posted on the scoreboard on Sunday after last class is finished. Competitors leaving show grounds prior to posting awards will forfeit all Championship Awards. Competitors leaving grounds may designate another individual to collect Championship Awards on their behalf prior to leaving grounds. Any decisions regarding Championship Results not specified herein the Prize List, which may result in a decision or ruling, will be at the sole discretion of the Show Manager and Show Committee. In divisions/categories with less than 3 riders the Show Committee reserves the right to alter or combine the Championships and Reserve Championships presented. The fine print The percentages obtained by each competitor in both C (Championship) tests shall be totalled. The competitor with the highest total will be named champion. The competitor with the second highest total shall be declared the reserve champion (providing he/she is in accordance with ). Categories offered for the B.C. Championships will be Junior, Amateur and Open where entries warrant. B.C. Champions will be named at each level for each category. If there are fewer than six entries per category, an Open Champion at that level will be awarded (Section E ). Article Only a Canadian Citizen or landed immigrant may be awarded a Gold Championship. Note: Split-level or division championships are not permitted (e.g. Training/First, First/Second etc.) Article At all EC championship competitions, any test that receives a score of less than 50% on a technical test will not be eligible for any class awards, championships or reserve championships. Freestyle Champions (Article E ) Freestyle champions will be determined by totaling the higher percentage from the two technical Championship classes (of the levels/divisions) plus the percentage from the freestyle. Only one freestyle championship will be awarded at each level/division (e.g. The freestyle score will be added to the athlete s best technical score from the same level/ division.) Freestyle championships will not be awarded by category. In the event that a competitor has only one technical score, due to elimination or other reasons, then the mark from the completed technical test plus the freestyle mark will be used to determine the competitor s placing when competing for a freestyle championship. PLEASE NOTE: In this Provincial championship Show NO whips and callers are allowed in the championship classes as per EC rules. The rider is responsible for their own errors and those of their agents in the completion of their entry forms (Art.801.9). >> show rings will be open for schooling each day after last class is finished (schooling horses only) << 12

13 Rules and Regulations General 1. The Southlands BC Dressage Championships is sanctioned as a Gold competition member of Equine Canada, 308 Legget Drive, Suite 100, Ottawa, Ontario, K2K 1Y6 and is governed by the rules of EC. (A602.1) 2. Every.class offered herein is covered by the rules and specifications of the current rules of EC and will be held and judged in accordance with the EC Rule Book (A602.2). For all FEI classes the 2015 Tests will be used. FEI Para Equestrian will use current tests. All other classes will use the 2015 EC National Tests. 3. Safety Headgear - all riders, regardless of age or level or competition, must wear ASTM/SEI or BSI/BS EN approved protective headgear at all times when mounted at any EC-sanctioned Dressage competition at the event location. 4. Any horse entered in any class at a competition may be selected for equine medication control testing while at the event location (602.6) 5. Per Art. A801, every entry at an EC-sanctioned competition shall constitute an agreement by the person responsible that the owner, lessee, trainer, manager, agent, coach, driver or rider and horse shall be subject to the EC constitution and all rules of EC and any additional rules set by the competition. It is the responsibility of all individuals participating in any capacity in EC-sanctioned competitions to be knowledgeable regarding the EC constitution and the applicable rules of EC and the additional rules, if any, imposed by the competition. Do not participate in this EC-sanctioned competition in any capacity if you do not consent to be bound by the constitution and rules of EC and any additional rules imposed by the competition (A602.7) 6. RING SIZE: All tests will be held in a 20x60 ring with the exception of FEI PE Grade 1, 2 and 3 which will be in a 20 x 40 ring. Warm -up rings 20x60. Rings and ride-times will be available online Wednesday prior to show. 7. Neither Southlands Riding Club (SRC) nor the Show Committee will be held responsible in any way for damage, injury or loss to persons, horses or property of spectators, owners, riders or grooms. 8. All riders must be current members of Equine Canada, Dressage Canada, and HCBC or AEF. A Gold license is required for Gold shows or temporary sport license fees apply. Foreign competitors must be members of their National Equestrian Federation. ALL ENTRIES MUST INCLUDE PHOTOCOPIES OF CURRENT CARDS OR TEMPORARY FEES WILL APPLY. Incomplete entries will be subject to a $30.00 processing fee. 9. Valid passports for each horse are mandatory for a Gold Level competition and must be presented to the show secretary when picking up numbers or temporary horse registration fee will be charged. Foreign owners must sign an affidavit verifying the horse. 10. Whips may be carried in all tests (with the exception of Championship classes) to a maximum length of 120cm (including lash) and Ponies 100cm maximum length (including lash). Lunge whips are permitted only when lunging in designated area. 11. Lunging is only permitted in the lunge rings at the north end of the indoor arena. Helmets must be worn while lunging. 12. Callers are allowed in EC National level tests. Competitors must provide their own callers. They are NOT allowed in Championship classes. 13. The horse s competition number must be worn at all times while on SRC property and while outside of stall. 14. Dogs must be leashed and under control at all times, if found off leash owners are subject to a fine. All dog owners are responsi ble for cleaning up after their dogs. Entries 16. Entries close Tuesday, August 5th 2015 at 5:00pm. Entries received after closing date are subject to post entry fees. 17. One horse per entry form. 18. Faxed entries will only be accepted with credit card payment. Fax to All competitors must sign the waiver. All riders must be current members of Equine Canada, Dressage Canada, HCBC or AEF or pay temporary horse registration or temporary sport license fees. Foreign competitors must be members of their National Equestrian Federation. ALL ENTRIES MUST INCLUDE PHOTOCOPIES OF CURRENT CARDS OR TEMPORARY FEES WILL APPLY. Incomplete entries will be subject to a $30.00 processing fee 20. Numbers will NOT be given to competitors who have outstanding balances for their show entries. When picking up numbers, competitors are required to pay for outstanding amounts (i.e. miscalculations, NSF cheque replacement and fee, post entry fees, missing photocopies, etc). The Show Committee will try to contact any competitor who has an outstanding balance prior to the start of the show. Entry confirmations will be ed to all competitors verifying each entry accepted and confirmed. Entries not including copy of membership cards are subject to an incomplete entry fee of $ Any change in an entry after closing date, will be charged $10 per change. Please PRINT CLEARLY your address on entry form. 21. NSF Cheques are subject to a $35.00 penalty. Cheques will be cashed upon receipt. 22. Cheques dated after the closing date will not be accepted and entries considered null and void. 23. The Show Committee and SRC management reserve the right to limit the number of entries and/or refuse any entry; split, cancel or combine and/or adjust classes or awards; govern all conditions of the show; and make decisions upon any matters not covered by current FEI and or EC rules. 24. Times will be available on Wednesday before the show on our web site Riders who include their address on their entry form will have the times ed to them. 25. The show will try to accommodate each horse rider combination as best as possible to allow for suitable warm up time for all tests a rider has entered. A minimum of 30 minutes between start of ride times will be scheduled if and where possible. In cases where this is not feasible in the ride schedule, affected riders will be given the option of accepting the available ride time or being removed from the class and refunded the class fee. 13

14 Class Rules 26. Classes may be scheduled at any time on the day listed in the class schedule. Ride times will only be changed in the case of error, overlapping times, or to facilitate the running of the show. 27. Check EC Rule Book Sec E 3.4 and Amateur status. For Junior status see 3.4.3, FEI Junior and Young Rider definitions see You must have Amateur on your EC card to be eligible for this division, otherwise you will be considered an Open rider. 28. Each horse is limited to a MAXIMUM OF FOUR TESTS per day in Training and First Level and a MAXIMUM OF THREE TESTS per day for second level and above. 29. Scratches must notify the Show Office. 30. Only one test of choice per class may be entered in all Test of Choice classes. Test of Choice classes are awarded on total percentages for all tests. 31. Classes will be split (AA/JR/O) if more than 6 entries per split. They will otherwise run as Open. Freestyles 32. Music is preferably submitted via or CD. CD must be provided to the Show Office by 10am, Friday August 19th. 33. Freestyle riders may provide a completed Riders Profile to the Show Office by 10:00 am, Friday August 19th 34. If submitted it is the rider s responsibility to pick up CD from the Show Office prior to the close of the show. 35. Sound checks are available in the mornings prior to show start or during lunch break. Please arrange with show office. Refunds/Post Entries 36. Prior to closing date, all fees will be refunded except administration fee. After closing date, 50% of class fees will be refunded with a veterinarian/physician certificate; stabling and administration fees will not be refunded. A veterinarian/physician certificate must be presented 24 hours PRIOR to the start of the show for any fees to be refunded. 37. Post Entry Fees of $40.00 per entry will be added to any entries received after the closing date. Post entries will only be accepted if space is available. 38. Entries received prior to the closing date, after the competition is full, will be put on a waiting list. They will not be subject to post entry fees if/when they are accepted into the show. If the competitor does not wish to be on a waiting list or does not get into the show, all entry fees will be refunded. Stabling 39. Limited portable stabling will be available on the competition grounds. Stalls will be available from 10:00 am, Thursday, August 18th to 6:00pm, Sunday, August 21st, 2016, for a fee of $ GST (first bedding provided), and are assigned to rider/horse. Payment for stalls must accompany entries and is non-refundable once stalls are assigned. Additional days are available at $35 + GST per day and $ 50 plus Tax overnight and must be indicated on the entry form. All Stalls with rubber mats. 40. To ensure stabling as a group, please state who you want to be stabled with on your entry form. 41. Additional shavings will be available for purchase on the grounds at a cost of $8.50/bag plus Tax. 42. CLEAN OUT DEPOSIT: A $30.00 stall clean out deposit is required for all stabled horses. This deposit will not be charged if the stall assigned is stripped clean prior to the exhibitor leaving the show grounds on Sunday. If paying by cheque, please enclose a separate deposit cheque payable to Southlands Riding Club with your entry. 43. Tack stalls may be available at the rate of $ GST. Tack stalls must be reserved and indicated on entry form. 44. Stall charts will be posted in stabling areas. Please note that stabling is assigned and any changes must be approved by the Competition Manager. 45. Single day stalls are available for $35.00 per day plus Tax (overnight is $ 50 plus Tax) plus the stall-strip deposit of $ Trailer access for Competitors 46. Horse trailer access to the competition grounds is located at the north east corner of the SRC grounds off Macdonald St just south of 53rd Avenue or by the portable stabling off 53rd Avenue. Trailer parking is available on the north side of the SRC property, angle parking only 3 horse or smaller trailers. Trailer parking is on a first come first serve basis and trailers must park in designated location only. Prize money 47. All prize money will be paid in Canadian funds and will be applied against outstanding show balances with residual issued to the horse owner Within 30 days of the completion of the competition. Schooling Horses/Hors concous 48. Schooling of horses may be done only by the competing athlete. Full entry is required to assign a number, Administration fee applies, DC Levy and Drug fee don t apply. 49. No Hors concours rides permitted.
