3 EQUINE CANADA STATEMENT OF PRINCIPLE Equine Canada, the National Federation of Canada, supports adherence to humane treatment of horses in all competitions under its jurisdiction. Equine Canada is committed to: Upholding the welfare of horses, regardless of value, as a primary consideration in all activities; Requiring that horses be treated with kindness, respect and the compassion that they deserve and that they never be subjected to mistreatment; Ensuring that owners, trainers, exhibitors and the agents use responsible care in the handling, treatment and transportation of their horses as well as horses placed in their care for any purpose; Providing for the continuous well being of horses by encouraging routine inspection and consultation with health care professionals and competition officials to achieve the highest possible standards of nutrition, health, comfort, sanitation and safety as a matter of standard operation procedure; Continuing to support scientific studies on equine health and welfare; Increasing education in training and horsemanship practices; Requiring owners, trainers and exhibitors to know and follow their sanctioning organization s rules and to work within the industry regulations in all equestrian competitions; and Reviewing, revising and developing competition rules and regulations that protect the welfare of horses. The standard by which conduct or treatment will be measured is that which a reasonable person, informed and experienced in generally accepted equine training and exhibition procedures, would determine to be neither cruel, abusive, nor inhumane. The 2013 CA/ADA Dressage Show competition is a sanctioned Gold competition member of Equine Canada, 308 Legget Drive, Suite 100, Ottawa, Ontario, K2K 1Y6 and is governed by the rules of EC. Per Article A801, every entry at an EC sanctioned competition shall constitute an agreement by the person responsible that the owner, lessee, trainer, manager, agent, coach, driver or rider and horse shall be subject to the EC constitution and all rules of EC and any additional rules set by the competition. It is the responsibility of all individuals participating in any capacity in EC sanctioned competitions to be knowledgeable regarding the EC constitution and the applicable rules of EC and the additional rules, if any, imposed by the competition. Do not participate in this EC sanctioned competition in any capacity if you do not consent to be bound by the constitution and rules of EC and any additional rules imposed by the competition. 3 Gold

4 GENERAL RULES FOR EQUINE CANADA NATIONAL GOLD COMPETITION 1. EQUINE CANADA RULES Every class offered herein is covered by the Rules and Specifications of the current rules of Equine Canada and will be held and judged in accordance. It is the exhibitor s responsibility to be familiar with EC rules and regulations. All Equine Canada sanctioned dressage competitions will use the 2013 Section E Dressage rules. 2. EC SPORT LICENSES are required for Gold competitions. Both the athlete (rider) and the owner of the competing horse must hold a current EC sport license. Only the athlete must pay the Dressage Canada Junior or Senior affiliate fee. 3. SPORT LICENSE UPGRADE The competitor may pay a fee of $20.00 to compete at a Gold Show if they hold a valid Silver license, or a fee of $40 to compete at a Gold Show if they hold a valid Bronze license. The single event Sport License Upgrade is valid only for that competition. Competitors in Provincial championships must have valid Gold sport licenses, they cannot use upgrades. 4. NON-MEMBERS Non-Equine Canada members will be permitted to exhibit with the purchase of a Temporary Sport License from the Show Office at a cost of $ A Temporary Sport License is not accumulative and will not apply against payment of a full license. Only Equine Canada members holding a valid competition license are eligible to receive Equine Canada Annual Awards. Competitors in Provincial championships must have valid Gold sport licenses, they cannot use temporaries. Note: At Gold shows in Alberta, persons who want to purchase a Temporary Sport or Horse License have to show proof of an AEF license. 5. HORSE PASSPORTS Passports are mandatory for Equine Canada competitions and should be presented to the Show Office upon arrival at the show. Competition horses must also have a current Equine Canada Horse License sticker. Horses without valid passports will be allowed to compete with the purchase of a Temporary Horse Registration from the Show Office at a cost of $45. Foreign horses without Equine Canada passports will be allowed to compete upon submitting an Affidavit for Foreign- Owned Horses to the Show Office. Competitors in Provincial championships must have valid horse Passports, they cannot use temporaries. 6. COGGINS A current (within 6 months of the show) Coggins Test certificate is required. Attach a copy to your entry form. 7. ENTRIES Incomplete entries will not be processed until complete. All entries must include payment in full and release signatures. Foreign riders should provide copies of their Federal/Provincial/Local Association memberships. 8. PAYMENTS Show fees must be paid in full at time of entry. Payments can be made by cheque made payable to the CA/ADA; or by bank transfer; or Pay Pal. The CA/ADA payment address is caada2013@gmail.com. Please include the competitor s name on the check or with the payment. 9. NO LATE OR POST ENTRIES WILL BE ACCEPTED All entries must be post marked August 9, No phone entries will be accepted. All entries must be accompanied by 4 Gold

5 a Waiver of Liability (page 2 of entry form) duly signed and dated with the names of the exhibitors. Parents or guardians must sign for Junior exhibitors. Failure to do so will result in an inability to participate in the show. Changes to entries or entries received after August 9, 2013 will be accepted at the discretion of the organizing committee and will be charged a $10 change of entry fee or a $50 late entry fee. 10. HORS CONCOURS Hors concours entries may be accepted only into non-championship classes at the discretion of the organizing committee. 12. SCHOOLING HORSES Riders wishing to school horses at the show without entering classes may be permitted if there is extra stabling after show entries are accommodated. Riders will be required to pay the full stabling fee, a schooling horse fee, and the office fee and will be subjected to all Equine Canada competition rules. The rider will be required to have an AEF membership, but will not be required to have an EC membership and the horse will not require a passport. 13. CANCELLATION Cancellations before the closing date, with or without veterinary or medical certificates will have all fees less the Administration fee refunded. Competitors cancelling after the official closing date but before midnight August 16 1h with a veterinary or medical certificate will have all fees less the Administration fee refunded. Competitors cancelling after August 16 th but before midnight on August 23 rd with a veterinary or medical certificate will be refunded stabling fees, EC drug fees & DC Levy, Entries cancelled after midnight on August 23 rd, 2013 will have all fees forfeited. In the event of curtailment, postponement or cancellation of the show or any portion of the show due to weather, health, or disaster conditions, no refunds will be made, with the exception of a percentage of class fees which, at the discretion of the Organizing Committee, may be refunded. 14. LIMIT OF ENTRIES The Organizing Committee reserves the right to limit entries and can decide any point not covered by the rules, to correct any errors or make any necessary changes to the prize list or program. The onus will be upon the competitor to familiarize herself/himself with such changes. In the event that there are more entries than there are places in the class, classes will be filled on a first come first served basis.(a805) 15. RIDE TIMES Ride times will be posted on Fox Village ( no later than Sunday, August 25th at 3pm. Please check day sheets, available at the show office each morning, for any ride time changes. 5 Gold

6 16. COMBINING CLASSES If there are fewer than three entries in a category, the Organizing Committee may combine entries into the Open Category. 17. DRUG FEES Drug fees are mandatory for Equine Canada competitions and must be included with entry fees. Any horse entered in any class at a competition may, while on the competition grounds be selected for equine medication control testing.. A1008 General Rules. 18. FREESTYLES see Rule E To be eligible to enter the Freestyle at a Gold EC competition, a horse/rider combination must have obtained a minimum score of 55% in a dressage test at the same technical level as the freestyle they wish to enter, prior to competing in the freestyle. Rider/horse combinations competing in more than one level must choose which level freestyle they will ride. 19. MUSIC CDs FOR FREESTYLES must be submitted with your passport when registering at the show office. All music is to be submitted on audio formatted compact disk (CD) only. You have to use CD-R media as some players have difficulty playing CD-RW media. Please bring a second CD for back up. Check that your name is on the CD as well as the on the CD- case - indicate when it is to be started (e.g. after the salute, outside the ring, etc). A sound check may be requested prior to entering the ring area. 20. REPORTING FOR COMPETITION Competitors are responsible for presenting their horses to the steward for inspection immediately after completing the test and leaving the competition arena. Any discrepancy to the saddlery rules found by the steward will result in elimination. Failure to report to the steward will also result in elimination. Any competitor not ready to enter the show ring when scheduled will be eliminated. Please check day sheets, available at show office each morning, for any ride time changes. Competitors may approach the steward prior to their class if uncertain about saddlery or clothing requirements. 21. SCHOOLING SCHEDULE Horses may be schooled only in the designated areas. Whips, running martingales, boots and bandages are allowed for schooling; side reins for lunging only. Competition numbers must be worn at all times during the show. To avoid disrupting the warm up of other competitors, the Organizing Committee requests that the warm up ring not be used for test calling. 22. WARM UP RINGS will be available for schooling on Wednesday, August 28, after 1:00 pm. Warm up times will be posted at the show office. 23. NUMBERS Competition numbers must be worn and visible at all times in the schooling and exercise areas as well as in the competition ring.(a814). 24. PROTECTIVE HEAD GEAR See rule E4.0 All riders, regardless of age or level or competition, must wear ASTM/SEI or BSI/BS EN approved protective headgear at all times when mounted at any EC-sanctioned Dressage competition at the event location. Note: At the tack check which follows the test, the steward may ask the rider to dismount so that the helmet may be inspected for the ASTM/SEI or BSI/BS EN label. 25. WHIPS See Rule E A whip may be carried in all levels at Bronze, Silver and Gold competitions. 6 Gold

7 2. Whips may not be carried in championship competitions or national team selection trials. Exception: Ladies riding sidesaddle may always carry a whip. See Chapter 5, Sidesaddle 3. The total length of the whip (including lash), used while mounted on a horse at any ECsanctioned dressage competition, must not exceed 120 cm. 4. Whips for ponies in all classes The total length of a whip (including lash), used while mounted on a pony at any EC-sanctioned dressage competition, must not exceed 100 cm in length including lash. 5. Telescoping whips are not permitted. 26. AWARDS FOR GOLD SHOW See rule E9.10. (Dressage). Ribbons are awarded to sixth place. Prizes and prize money is dependent on sponsorship. The combined Prize Money for the Gold Show will be at least the amount published in the Prize List. Any horse receiving less than 40% will be eliminated from that class. Any horse receiving less than 50% in any class shall not be eligible for awards, ribbons or prizes. When there is only one horse in the class, ribbons and prizes shall be awarded in accordance with the following percentages. 1st 60% or higher, 2nd 57% to 59.9%, 3rd 54% to 56.9%, 4th 51% %. No ribbons or prizes shall be awarded below 4th position. Freestyle Classes, Materiale, Western Dressage and Young Horse classes will be placed to 6th only by level/division, not by category (ex. Jr, A, O). 27. FEI TEST OF CHOICE TOC classes include: FEI Children s Prelim, FEI Children s Team, FEI Children s Individual, FEI Pony Prelim, FEI Pony Team, FEI Pony Individual, FEI Junior Prelim, FEI Junior Team, FEI Junior Individual, FEI Young Rider Prelim, FEI Young Rider Team, FEI Young Rider Individual, FEI Young Rider 16-25, FEI Prix St Georges, FEI Intermediate I, FEI Intermediate II, FEI Grand Prix, FEI Grand Prix Special. Indicate on the entry form which test will be ridden. FEI tests are found on the FEI website. Please note that FEI TOC classes cannot be used for qualification for non- Youth riders for Western Regionals, or other championships. 28. FEI YOUTH TEST OF CHOICE TOC classes include: FEI Children s Prelim, FEI Children s Team, FEI Children s Individual, FEI Pony Prelim, FEI Pony Team, FEI Pony Individual, FEI Junior Prelim, FEI Junior Team, FEI Junior Individual, FEI Young Rider Prelim, FEI Young Rider Team, FEI Young Rider Individual, FEI Young Rider Indicate on the entry form which test will be ridden. FEI tests are found on the FEI website. 29. WESTERN DRESSAGE TEST OF CHOICE TOC Western dressage patterns/classes are found on the Western Dressage Associate website, These classes will be offered as miscellaneous classes are not rated for EC awards. Tack rules will follow the Western Dressage Association rules. Helmets are mandatory for all competitors at the CA/ADA show, including Western dressage riders. 30. GOLD SHOW CHAMPIONSHIPS AND SPECIAL AWARDS Show Championships are to be awarded as follows for tests ridden on Thursday and Friday: Training Level (Junior, Open, Adult Amateur) First Level (Junior, Open, Adult Amateur) Second Level (Junior, Open, Adult Amateur) 7 Gold

8 Third Level (Junior, Open, Adult Amateur) Fourth Level FEI Young Horse FEI Western Dressage Champions will be determined by averaging all test scores in the level for each horse/rider combination that has ridden at least two tests in the level at the Fiesta Gold Show (Provincials not to count - Thursday and Friday only to be considered). The competitor with the highest average shall be declared the Champion and the competitor with the second highest average shall be declared the Reserve Champion. In the event of a tie, the competitor with the highest single percentage score is declared the winner. If there are less than three competitors in a level and division, at the discretion of the Organizing Committee, those competitors may be combined with the Open division. There will be an award for the Adult Amateur who earns the highest technical score at the August Fiesta Dressage Show (Provincials not to count, only Thursday and Friday classes). The highest scoring freestyle on Friday evening, including both Gold and Provincials freestyles, will be awarded a high point award. A bronze, donated by Discriminating Art, will be awarded to the third or fourth level horse and rider combination in the Adult Amateur category with the top average of their highest score from the June Fiesta Dressage Show and their highest score from the August Fiesta Dressage Show (Thursday and Friday classes only). The CAADA members with the highest average by level (Training, First, Second, Third, Fourth, FEI and CDI) will also be awarded with plaques. There will be one presentation for the June Fiesta Dressage show and CDI, and another presentation for the August Fiesta Dressage show and Provincials. Except where specified, only technical tests will count towards any high point or special award, young horse or materiale classes will not be considered, and except in the freestyle high point, freestyle scores will not be considered. 31. PRESENTATION OF AWARDS Ribbons for non-championship classes can be picked up throughout the day at the show office. Please check the board by the office for championship, high point and special award presentations. Failure to arrive in dress to be indicated will result in forfeit of the award. There will be some presentations on Friday, and some on Sunday. Please see the Provincial Championship regulation section regarding championship presentations. 32. STABLING AND TACK STALLS FOR GOLD SHOW Stabling is available but not mandatory for the Gold Show. Priority will be given to those from out of town and on a first come basis. Stabling will open on Wednesday, August 28, 2013 at 1:00pm. Please do not plan your arrival before this time your horse will have to remain in the trailer until the office and stabling open. 8 Gold

9 The stabling fees are $ and does not include bedding. Shavings will only be sold by pre-order on the entry form, at a cost of $9.00 a bag or by Rocky Mountain Show Jumping at the show office. Tack stalls are available at a cost of $ Competitors not stabling will be charged a daily haul in fee of $20.00/horse. A limited number of day stalls will be available at a cost of $60.00/day. Note: A stabling chart will be provided at the start of the shows it can be found at the show office and in the barns. Competitors may only use the stall and tack stall assigned to them. Absolutely no changes are allowed without first being discussed with the Stable Manager. Note: If you would like to be stabled next to someone in particular, please ensure that the same Stable Group Name is used, as this is how the Stable Manager assigns stalls. 33. CAMPING/ RVs may be parked at the show in the designated trailer parking area. However, NO services are provided. 34. WASH RACK An outdoor wash rack will be available throughout the competition. Please note the wash rack provides cold water only. 35. CATEGORIES AND ELIGIBILITY TO COMPETE Rule E Horses may be ridden by more than one rider at a competition but not more than once in a category. Rule E No horse/pony may be ridden in more than 4 tests (including the freestyle) in one day. Please see EC chart at E3.4 to determine the categories of Junior, Adult Amateur & Open riders. 36. PROTESTS A protest at an EC sanctioned competition other than those specific matters covered in division rules must comply with the following provisions: a) a protest is eligible only if made by an officiating judge, and owner, lessee, trainer, coach competitor or authorized agent, in the division in which the question arises; b) a protest must be made in writing and addressed to the Show Secretary; c) must be signed; and d) must be accompanied by a deposit of $100 in cash. For full details see rule A1206 Gen. Regulations. 37. COMPLAINTS All complaints must be made in writing to EC within three months of the competition date. For full details see rule A1207 Gen. Regulations. 38. DOGS must be on a leash at all times. 39. SMOKING Absolutely no smoking in the stabling areas or indoor arenas. 40. HOTEL Competitors will be responsible for their own arrangements. 10 Holiday Inn Express Hotel Calgary South Lakeview Inns and Suites - Okotoks (403) LIABILITY It is a condition of entry that neither the Calgary Area/Alberta Dressage Association, Organizing Committee or Rocky Mountain Show Jumping will be held responsible in any way for damage, injury, or loss to persons, horses or property of spectators or competitors. 42. VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED TO HELP WITH THE SHOW. A separate $40.00 refundable volunteer cheque should be included with each entry. The cheque will be shredded after the volunteer shift (minimum 1 hour) has been completed. 11 GENERAL RULES FOR EQUINE CANADA ALBERTA GOLD PROVINCIAL CHAMPIONSHIPS 1. Provincial Championships will be awarded by totalling the scores from each test in the championship divisions described in the class list, taking place on Saturday and Sunday (ie. Non-championship classes are ineligible) and are as follows: Walk/Trot Level Open/Junior/Amateur Training Level Open/Junior/Amateur First Level Open/Junior/Amateur Second Level Open/Junior/Amateur Third Level Open/Junior/Amateur Fourth Level Open/Junior/Amateur FEI 4 Year Old FEI 6 Year Old FEI Children FEI Pony FEI Junior FEI Young Rider FEI Advanced Open/Junior/Amateur FEI Grand Prix Open/Junior/Amateur FEI 5 Year Old 2. Freestyle Championships will be awarded by averaging the top technical test from the championship division classes taking place on Saturday and Sunday (ie. Nonchampionship classes are ineligible) with the freestyle score from the championship freestyle classes, taking place on Friday and will be awarded as follows: First Level Second Level Third Level Fourth Level FEI Pony FEI Junior FEI Young Rider FEI Intermediate I FEI Grand Prix 3. Qualification for 2013 Alberta Gold Provincial Championships is not required however preference will be given to riders with a threshold score of 58% earned at their level at a previous Gold show in 2013 (same horse/rider combination). Should entries be limited, preference will be given to riders with a threshold score. After those entries are accepted, riders without a score will be accepted in order of receipt of entries. Qualification for freestyles is as normal, a 55% is required at the level to ride the freestyle which can be earned up to the time of the freestyle. 4. Championship divisions with less than 6 entries may be combined into one open category At all EC championship competitions, any horse receiving less than 50% on a technical test will not be eligible for any class awards, championships or reserve championships. 6. Presentations for Alberta Gold Provincial Championships will be held on Sunday, September 1, The presentation schedule will be posted at the office. The show committee requests that Champions be in full dress and mounted, Reserve Champions should be in full dress with no horse required. Failure to arrive at presentations will result in forfeit of all prizes. All other riders may pick up their ribbons at the office following the conclusion of championship calculations for their division. 11 Gold
