5 Foreword Kivells are delighted to have received the instructions to disperse the mainly homebred herd of Holstein Friesian Dairy Cattle on behalf of E R & J Headon & Sons of Tredole, Trevalga, Boscastle of which the first consignment will be removed for convenience of sale to Holsworthy Livestock Market on Wednesday 8 th August The sale is occurring due to a restructuring of the Headon s farming enterprise. The Herd was established in the early 1980 s by Mr Edward Headon and together with his son Robert, they have been running a typical family farming business based around a Dairy enterprise. In 2006 the herd was moved to Tredithed farm where the cattle are milked in a new Dairy setup and numbers were increased to the present day level. The cows are mainly homebred and of a Friesian-type which have been farmed on a low input system with cake to yield in the parlour, grass silage is only fed in the winter months and the cows are grazed on the exposed North Cornish coastline from March to November and are barrier fed grass silage during the winter. The cows are milked in a 16:32 Swingover Herringbone Parlour with milk yields automatically recorded on a daily basis and the herd is regularly cell count tested. The Herd are averaging approximately 6500Kgs and the Milk Cheque Rolling Average shows: 4.23%BF 3.38%PTN cc215. Average cell count of cows in the sale is cc107. The cattle for sale in this consignment have all freshly calved since March. They have been mainly running with a Pedigree easy calving South Devon Bull Hay Barnabas and a Pedigree Hereford Bull Nanscient Cornish Boy with some recent services to AI. The cows are vaccinated for BVD only, screened for Johnes and wormed at drying off. Despite the dry weather conditions and shortage of grass on the farm, the cattle are in good body condition and are medium sized and have good udders and sound legs and feet. These cattle are farmed on a simple low input system and it is considered that they have greater potential for yield than currently being achieved. Further consignments from this herd will be sold in Holsworthy Livestock Market during the Autumn and Winter months along with a selection of In Calf Heifers and Bulling Heifers. 16 Auction Sale Rules (All cattle sold by Kivells are sold under the Livestock Auctioneers Association Conditions of Sale) Maiden heifers stated to be sold for breeding purposes. The vendor warrants a maiden heifer stated in the catalogue or at the time of sale to be sold for breeding purposes to be free from any malformation which would render the animal incapable of breeding. The warranty is a 5 day warranty if the malformation is patent or a 6 month + 5 day warranty if the malformation is latent. If the purchaser proves a breach of warranty the purchaser may return the animal to the vendor. Notice of claim must be supported by a veterinary surgeon s certificate. Cows or heifers sold as being in milk and/or in calf. The vendor warrants a dairy cow or heifer in calf and/or in milk: (a) To be correct in the udder and teats; (b) Not to be infected with clinical mastitis; (c) Not to suck any other animal or herself; and (d) To be quiet to milk. The warranties in conditions (a) & (b) is an after sale warranty which shall run from the close of the day s sale or until the animal is removed from the sale premises, whichever is sooner. The warranty in conditions (c) & (d) is a 5+5 day warranty. Cleansing The vendor warrants that all newly calved cows and heifers have cleansed satisfactorily before the sale. This warranty is a 3 day warranty in which any claim made by the purchaser must be supported by a veterinary surgeon s certificate. The vendor is obliged to pay for the cost of one wash out. Cows or heifers sold as served or guaranteed in calf: When an animal stated to have been served less than 10 weeks prior to the sale and is pregnancy diagnosed positive, this is given as guidance only and carries no warranty. If a cow or heifer has been positively diagnosed as 10 weeks or more in calf at the time of sale and thereafter is proved to be not in-calf, and a Veterinary Surgeon s certificate to that effect is produced there is a day warranty. Where a cow or heifer is sold as having run with a bull no warranty as to the animal being in calf at the time of sale is given. Breeding Stock bulls The vendor warrants that any bull 10 months or over sold as a stock bull is capable of and effective at natural service. This warranty is a 16 week warranty. Please note Milk yields are given as a guide but carry no warranty. The descriptions are supplied by the vendor and whilst they are believed to be correct this catalogue in no way shall guarantee their accuracy. Antibiotics Please would all vendors inform the Auctioneers if any animal has been treated with any antibiotics. There are serious penalties incurred to milk producers for antibiotic contamination. NOTICE TO PURCHASERS:- Please could all buyers and particularly those under TB Restrictions, make sure they are fully satisfied with their purchases before the cattle are removed from the market. If you are purchasing cattle and your farm is under TB Restriction, it is not possible for the vendor to take the animal back should there be an issue, therefore we ask that all buyers ensure their purchases are sound and correct in the udder and are completely satisfied before taking them home. 16
