1 CONGRATULATIONS! August saw lots of test success for Peak members. Well done to Izzy Pindur for achieving her B testing (riding) in Lancaster and Holly Lucas and Katrina Cullen on taking their AH exam in Warwick. The AH exam is a six hour long exam, that consists of four modules that can be achieved individually. Holly passed three modules including lungeing and ride-and-leading strange horses, and Katrina passed all four. D and D+ training D and D+ training at Chris Barr s. 20 for the course of training and the test. Wednesday 5 th October Wednesday 12 th October Wednesday 19 th October TEST: Tuesday 25 th October Winter Show Jumping Riddling out the rules for parents! 7 th Oct The pony club winter league show jumping has its own set of rules that are different to the normal show jumping rules that riders and parents are usually familiar with. If you think you may be interested in competing as part of a team in the winter league, or just want to brush up your knowledge, Danielle is running a rules talk at the October on foot (7 th October) rally for parents and members. On foot rallies start again! Yes, it s true. The dreaded onset of winter has begun as the nights have started drawing in! One of the few highlights of winter is the on foot rallies which begin again in October. The first on foot rally is Friday 7 th October and will be all about field safety a new achievement badge for For members and parents interested in winter league Show jumping don t forget there will also be a quick rules 101 talk as well. Combined training 2 nd October Schedule to follow soon! Combined training is a competition where riders first do a dressage test and then jump a single round of show jumps. For riders not ready to jump yet they can just compete in the dressage. This is a great way to practice both your dressage and jumping in one! The competition also goes towards the end of year trophies. Schedule at the end!

2 Mounted Games practices Sunday 9th Oct, Sunday 6th November, Sunday 4th Dec These will all be morning sessions - times and venue TBC. These sessions are available for any members who are keen to have a go at games or who want to be considered for our MG teams. Keep an eye out on the online booking in system. September Show By all accounts it seems a great time was had by all! And if you look carefully at the photo on the right you may be able to guess how that rosette was won! Riding and Road Safety Exam Peak will be running a riding and road safety exam soon. Some of you may have already achieved your mini road rider or road riding achievement badges. This exam is the final stage of road riding in the pony club, and gives you a certificate which you need to progress onto your C+ exams and above. If you are riding at or working towards you C or C+ levels then you should definitely consider taking this exam. Details to follow! FOR SALE: Peaches n Cream A superb natured 14hh mare rising 9, safe and reliable, easy to handle, shoe and travel. Scopey and brave jumper, both cross country and show jumping up to 105cm. She has competed in many PC events including SJ, Working Hunter, dressage and PC camps. Competitive highlights include: 5th in the Area dressage qualifiers, 3rd place in the Cheshire Shield ODE (90cm) and competed at the Bramham Horse trials PC challenge (105cm). 3 FANCY A GO AT WINTER LEAGUE SHOW JUMPING? It s the call to arms! (Or jumps.). Dates have now been released for each round of the winter league show jumping held at Osbaldeston (More details such as heights and age categories coming soon the first date is usually 10 years and under). See the diary dates page for competition dates. If you are interested in being part of a show jumping team then please contact Zoe Bowden, who will be Chef d Equipe for the team and will be putting on team practices in the lead up to each competition. Zoe: MAGIC MUSICAL RIDE PC CHAMPIONSHIPS 2016 Not strictly a team of Peak riders, but this year senior member Katrina Cullen (who also instructs at the Glossop branch) was Chef d Equipe of Glossop s Musical Ride. Unlike Peak, Glossop don t do drill riding at camp, so the nine riders on the team had never tried it before! Team try-outs were only at the end of July, which only left four weeks to get ready for the championships. Dedicated team members threw themselves into two practices a week, and pulled together a fantastic Spies and Mission and Im-Glossop-le theme complete with super cool costume changes and props! The team got a very respectable score of 71.5% - which they were very pleased with as none of the riders had ever been to the championships before! Who doesn t love a good Pony story? Over the next few months Romy will be introducing her favourite pony books to you something to keep you entertained when it gets too dark to ride after school! Up first Pony Club Secrets by Stacy Gregg A series of 13 books (plenty to keep you going!) based on Issie Brown, a girl from New Zealand who is part of Chevalier Point Pony Club, and her various pony related adventures!

4 So I ve decided to try including a section for us senior members at Peak for a few months let me know what you think, what you d like to see and if you like to be involved! Otherwise this may very well become Katrina s rambles instead..and nobody wants that! Peak Senior Members training - Sunday 13 th November A senior members training day with a focus on jumping, with Area 4 training co-ordinator Hilary Wakefield. This will be held at New Barn (Chelford) and will include a session on Rocky the mechanical horse! For those of you haven t tried a senior members training day I highly recommend them they give a very different feel to a rally and focus on helping you prepare for you next pony club exam (or just to advance your riding/knowledge!). Hilary Wakefield is a highly respected instructor throughout Pony Club and even played the part of the royal instructor at the Queen s Birthday Celebrations! Area 4 Senior Camp 2016 So for the first time in five years Area 4 ran a camp for senior members! Any member could attend the four day camp at Somerford Park in August, kindly hosted by Pendle Forest and Craven Hunt branch alongside their summer camp. A total of 13 riders from across area 4 (including the Isle of Man!) attended this year, working towards a range of tests from C+ to AH, with instruction from Linda De Matteo, Chris Barr, Pam Prickett and Tyler Cassells (Cross Country). Riders got at least two flatwork sessions, two show jumping sessions, two cross country sessions, Pilates for riders and lungeing practice. Stable management topics covered including feeding for a healthy digestive system, bitting, conformation, trotting up, soundness/lameness, ageing by teeth and various items of saddlery including how to fit them.

Class 2: 10 years & under (walk & trot only) PC walk and trot test Jumps will not exceed 1ft 3. Class 3: 10 years & under (includes canter) Pony Club Dressage C level test Jumps will not exceed 2ft. Dressage Tests Tests can be viewed on the Pony Club website and scroll down to the Test tabs. There is also a full copy of the rules and some useful links for those of you doing this for the first time. Printed copies are available from Danielle Dawson at the address below and if you do require a printed copy of your dressage test, please add 20p per test sheet to your entry money and enclose an SAE. Entries Dressage only 10 per member Dressage and show jumping 14 per member Entries close one full week before the competition on Saturday 24 th September 2016 Dressage times will be available to view on the website from the Thursday before the competition Rules Ages are as of 1 January of the current year. Entries in Class 1 may not enter any other class. The dressage tests are held first followed by the show jumping phase on the outdoor arena. For the dressage you may use snaffle bits only, no martingales or gadgets, ponies may only wear boots/bandages for working in, only the member riding the test can work the pony in. You may have a caller for your dressage test but please arrange your own as we cannot guarantee that anyone will be available. For the show jumping, you may use any suitable bit. For both phases a whip may be carried. Spurs may only be worn with the permission of the DC.
