4 All Dartmoor Pony owners must be fully paid up members of the Dartmoor Pony Society except for Class 14 and Part-breds. All ponies must be Full or Supplementary registered Dartmoor ponies, unless otherwise stated. All ages as at 1 st January of the current year. Note rules about showing stallions/colts. Trophies NEW RULE REMINDER NEWLY WON THROPHIES CANNOT BE COLLECTED IF THE SOCIETY IS STILL AWAITING THE RETURN OF PREVIOUSLY WON TROPHIES. January 2018 Newsletter Please ensure that any trophies you received at the previous Breed Show are returned clean and in good condition to Mrs Elizabeth Brewington, the Trophy secretary ( ), ideally one month before the show day. Please ring Mrs Brewington in good time to tell her when you will be returning the trophy. Trophies need to be returned by 9am at the latest on the Breed Show day (by prior arrangement with Mrs Brewington). Also remember the cost of sending any trophies would be entirely the responsibility of the trophy winner and not the DPS or the Trophy secretary. There are some fragile trophies that the Trophy secretary does not allow to be sent by post and the returning or receiving of these would have to be by other arrangements eg given to a DPS Council member. These conditions are applicable to both Breed Show trophies and AGM trophies. All Trophies are Perpetual and must be signed for by the owner of the pony on the day 4

NPS Membership Criteria for the Breed Show Qualifying rounds for most NPS competitions are open to the ponies owned by NPS members & non-members, and at Breed Shows, ponies can qualify for the final even if their owners are not NPS members. The Owner of a pony qualifying at a Breed Show must become a NPS Qualifying member for the pony to enter the final at the NPS Summer Championship Show in August At Breed Shows, ponies can win Silver Medal Rosettes even if their owners are not members of the NPS, but they must become NPS qualifying members to enter the final in Silver Medal Rosettes Championships These classes are judged under the Rules of the NPS. If the Champion Pony has previously qualified, it is still entitled to the Silver Medal Rosette but the qualification card goes to the Reserve Champion Pony. The Silver Medal Rosette and qualification card can be awarded no lower than third place. Foals are not eligible for Silver Medal Championships. 5

The Trewassick Cup presented by Mr and Mrs A G Belcher to the winner Class 14 NPS/BAILEYS HORSE FEEDS MOUNTAIN AND MOORLAND RIDDEN DARTMOOR PONY OF THE YEAR HORSE OF THE YEAR SHOW QUALIFIER 2018 This class is also a qualifier for the NPS/RINGSIDE STUD M&M OPEN RIDDEN CHAMPIONSHIP and NPS/ROSETTES DIRECT HOME PRODUCED RIDDEN CHAMPIONSHIP (wear white armbands) Rosettes to 10th Place This competition is open to stallions, mares and geldings, four years old and over, registered and complying with the showing requirements of the main body of the Dartmoor Pony Society. Riders and Owners must be members of the DPS, NPS, Ponies (UK), The Showing Register or BSPS. Ponies must not exceed 127cm as stipulated by the Dartmoor Pony Society. Riders of stallions must have obtained their 12 th birthday before the 1 st January in the current year. This class will be run in accordance with the general rules as set out in the Horse of the Year Show rulebook,a copy of which can be downloaded from This is a Horse of the Year Show Qualifier, all data given upon entry of this class is provided to Grandstand Media Limited and stored on the Grandstand Entries System. For full policy details please visit Marks will be awarded in the following way: Show, freedom of action - 50 maximum Breed type and confirmation - 50 maximum In the case of equality, the pony with the highest show, freedom of action mark will be deemed the winner. If there is still equality at this point, then the judge ' decisions will be final. This class is a qualifying class for the Horse of the Year Show, NEC, Birmingham, 3rd - 7th October Qualification will not pass below 3 rd Place. Qualification will be verified by the Horse of the Year Show office. Class 15 Class 16 Class 17 Novice brood mare 4 years and over with own foal at foot. For mares which have not won a first prize in a Dartmoor class at a star show with a foal at foot, prior to the closing date of the show Foal by a registered Dartmoor stallion and out of the mare shown in Class 15 Open brood mare 4 years old and over with own foal at foot. Class 18 Foal by a registered Dartmoor stallion and out of a mare in Class 17 7

The highest 2 placed eligible ponies in classes 1,2, 5-15,18 and 19 to compete The Senruf Trophy presented by Mrs M Furness to the winner. Lloyds Bank Novice for the best novice. Those eligible are ponies which have never won a first prize in any in-hand Dartmoor class at any show (except foal classes) prior to the closing date of entries. The 2 highest placed eligible ponies from classes 1-10,15,17 & 19 to compete Please show eligibility on the entry form. The Lloyds Bank Challenge Trophy to the winner. The Shilstone Rocks Cup for the best pony owned by an exhibitor from outside the counties of Devon, Cornwall, Dorset and Somerset. The 2 highest placed eligible ponies in classes 1-10, 15, 17 & 19 to compete. The Shilstone Rocks Challenge Cup presented by Mr T Reep & Mrs E Newbolt-Young to the winner GELDING CHAMPIONSHIP 1 st and 2 nd prize winners from classes 5, 7 and 19 to compete The Oakdene Challenge Cup presented by Mr and Mrs de St Croix for the best young gelding. The two highest placed geldings from classes 5 & 7 to compete. Class 22 In-hand part-bred stallion, mare or gelding 4 years old or over IN-HAND PART-BRED CHAMPIONSHIP 1st and 2 nd prize winners from classes 21 and 22 to compete. A Challenge Cup presented by Mrs G A Wright to the In-Hand Champion. Sashes will be awarded to the Part-Bred Champion and Reserve, with 1st and 2 nd prize winners from classes 20, 21 & 22 to compete. The Cave Penny Challenge Cup for the best pony from classes 21 and 22 which is at least 50% Dartmoor and all the rest of its breeding is either Thoroughbred or Arab. Please Note - All Part-bred entries at this Show must either be registered in the Part-Bred section of the DPS Stud Book, or have their Passport over-stamped by the DPS. Exhibitors in the Part-Bred Classes do not have to be DPS members. NPS Mountain and Moorland qualifying rounds These classes are judged under the current NPS rules. Ponies must be registered in the main body of their respective Mountain and Moorland Stud Books. Part-breds are not eligible. The first placed pony in each class will qualify for the final in Qualification may pass down to third place if the first and second ponies are already qualified. The owner of a pony qualifying at a breed show must become a qualifying member of the NPS for the pony to enter the final at the NPS summer championships in 2019 NPS /Rosettes direct home produced ridden championship. Riders of home produced ponies (see definition in current NPS rule book) to wear a white armband in classes where this is indicated. These ponies are then eligible to qualify for the final in 2019 at the NPS summer championships mentioned above. Class 23 NPS/ The Kings Head Novice Leading-Rein Open to registered mares and geldings 4 years old and over, not exceeding 122 cm. Not to have won a first prize in any Open ridden class prior to the 1 st January of the current year. Riders must have attained their 3 rd birthday but not their 9 th birthday before the 1 st January of the current year and the leader has to be 16 years of age or older. To be shown in a snaffle bit with the leading rein attached to the noseband. 9

Open to registered mares and geldings 4 years old or over not exceeding 122cm. Riders must have attained their 3 rd birthday but not their 9 th birthday by the 1 st January of the current year and the leader has to be 16 years old or over. To be shown in a snaffle bit with the lead rein attached to the noseband. Pony Club Walk and Trot Test 2013 A merit rosette will be awarded to all riders not placed in this class The Concours de Dressage challenge trophy presented by the Association du Poney Dartmoor to the highest placed Dartmoor pony DIRECTIONS TO SHOWGROUND FROM THE EAST OR NORTH From M5 Junction 31, follow the signs onto the A30 West, signed to Okehampton/Bodmin. Whiddon Down is approximately 17 miles from Junction 31. Continue along the dual carriageway to the exit signed for Whiddon Down and Moretonhampstead. *The Showground is approximately ¾ mile from the Junction on the A30 at Whiddon Down In Whiddon Down,at a mini-roundabout, take the A382 signed Moretonhampstead and Chagford and in 200 metres turn right, the entrance to the Showground is then on the left. There will be signs directing traffic to the show from the mini-roundabout. FROM THE WEST Take the A30, heading towards Exeter. Turn off at the exit signed for Whiddon Down and Moretonhampstead. Follow the same instructions from* above. 13
14 RULES AND CONDITIONS 1. Dartmoor Pony Owners MUST be fully paid up members of the Dartmoor Pony Society (except for Part-breds and Class 14), and all ponies must be fully or supplementary registered Dartmoor ponies, unless otherwise stated. 2. The Judge's decision is final. The Judges will be instructed to withhold any ordinary or special prize where there is evident lack of merit. 3. The Society reserves the right to take the opinion of a Veterinary Surgeon on any pony exhibited 4. The officials do not hold themselves responsible for any accident which may occur on the showground to spectators, competitors or animals. The organisers of this Show have taken reasonable precautions to ensure the health and safety of everyone present. For these measures to be effective, everyone must take all reasonable precautions to avoid and prevent accidents occurring and must obey the instructions of the organisers and all the officials and stewards. All competitors are advised to have Public Liability Insurance. 5. Any persons wishing to lodge an objection having reference to any persons or exhibit,shall do so in writing within one hour of the completion of the class or championship and at the same time shall deposit the sum of with the Show Secretary. If an investigation by the Championship Show Committee shows that the objection is not justified the deposit shall be forfeited and paid into the funds of the Dartmoor Pony Society. The Committee's decision shall be final in all respects. 6. No owner may knowingly show a pony in a class where the judge has owned/bred/sold/leased/broken/trained or produced that pony or where the pony has been owned/bred/sold/leased/broken/trained or produced by the judge's immediate family, partner, employer or employee. An owner may not show under a judge for whom (s)he has produced/broken/trained an equine since 1 st October in the previous year.(nb Immediate family includes husband, wife, child, grandchild, brother, sister, parent, and grandparent). 7. Please check Novice status of the class you are entering as it does vary from class to class. 8. The Championship Show Committee reserves the right to cancel or amalgamate any class/classes and to refuse entries. Non-members may not remove trophies from the Show Ground. 9. NO NOMINATIONS & NO SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED. Entry fees are non-returnable 10. Passports must accompany ponies exhibited at the Show. 11. All foals must be at least 3 weeks old on the day of the Show. 12. Handlers of ponies in the In -Hand classes aged 14 and under MUST wear correctly secured British Standard skull caps/riding hats and safe footwear. 13. Correctly secured skull caps/riding hats that meet one of the following current Safety Standards/specifications MUST be worn at all times when mounted and also by competitors in Young Handler classes: All PAS 015; VG1; ASTM F1163 O4a onwards; SNELL E2001; AS/NZS onwards. In addition the new BS/EN standard will be allowed, once approved with the finalised number being advised in due course. PLEASE NOTE that from the 1 st January 2017 the list of standards no longer includes BS/EN1384:1996 or 2012(or prior year suffix). A rider whose hat comes off will be disqualified. A rider whose chinstrap comes undone whilst competing must, on penalty of disqualification, refasten it before continuing. The rider may stop without penalty to refasten the strap. Body protectors are recommended for classes involving jumping. 14. The minimum age for any child jumping is 5 years old on the 1 st January of the current year. 15. Whips/canes must not exceed an overall length of 75cm. (30 ), no spurs may be worn in any ridden class. 16. Only Part-bred ponies can be shown plaited. 17. A fall of pony or rider whilst mounted in any class will result in disqualification, they must leave the ring dismounted. 18. All NPS classes will be run under NPS Rules except in the Horse of the Year Show qualifying class where, if there is a conflict of Rules, Horse of the Year Show Rules will take precedence over NPS Rules. 19. Any competitor seen practising over the WHP Course will be disqualified. 20. Dogs MUST be kept on a lead at all times. STALLIONS AND COLTS 21. All Dartmoor Stallions and Colts 3 years old and over must hold a current DPS Licence. All Part-Bred stallions and colts 2 years old and over must hold a current stallion Licence. 22. Handlers of stallions and colts must have attained their 14 th birthday by 1 st January of the current year. 23. Riders of stallions must have attained their 12th birthday before 1 st January in the current year. 24. In all classes, stallions and colts 2 years old and over must display stallion bridle markers. 14
