Preserving and Promoting Traditional Bowhunting In Idaho 526 Robie Creek Road, Boise, ID IN THIS ISSUE Western States Traditional Rendezvous Litter Pick-up and Bow Bird Shoot Wild Game Feed 2009 Cabin Fever Shoot 2009 Carp Shoot And much more... Annual Bow Bird Shoot and Adopt-a-Highway Litter Pickup Early this month 25 or so traditionalist braved the chance of embarrassment and touched string to cheek in pursuit of flying foam disks, and a new little game we like to call water torture. Our bow bird and litter pick up shoot couldn t have been better, unless more people would have shown up to enjoy the laughter and stories told. We spent a quick hour covering our two-mile stretch of Highway 55 from mile post 72 to 74, picking up anything and almost everything that had been tossed out by ignorant people who believe the world is their trash can. The most popular item to throw out a car window this past year seemed to be energy drinks. Apparently with that much caffeine in someone s system the uncontrollable shaking makes the can slip out of their hands and onto the roadway. With the minor work out of the way the majority of us headed up to the top of Horseshoe Bend and ate some bear sausages, burgers, homemade potato salad, and all of the fixin s. Thanks to Jeff Fealko for cooking. Next year he even promises to have a bigger BBQ to ease the rabid appetites faster. Soon arrows were singing through the air in hot pursuit of moving foam, and I am happy to say that many found their mark. We were able to shoot as many arrows as we wanted thanks to the quick

ITB members to attend, and hopefully many visitors from out of state. From I-84, take exit 182. Drive south on Highway 50. About a mile from the exit veer to the left on N3800E. This road will take you through the small town of Hansen heading almost due south. Stay on this road all the way to Magic Mountain Ski Resort. The arrows were flying hot and heavy during the Water Torture competition. Be ready for this one at the Western States Traditional Rendezvous! retrieval skills from Sean Carriere s daughters sibling rivalry never worked so well. Water torture is a new game introduced to us by Ron White, Bill Kerr, and Jerry Stout. It involves two, one-gallon milk jugs filled with water, connected together on a pulley system. It is a competition between two people to see who can empty their jug of water enough to make their competitors jug hit the ground. It was a great time and is going to get broke out again at the Western States Traditional Rendezvous. So in the mean time please save your milk jugs and bring them to the Western States so they can be used for the water torture game. Thanks Ron, Bill, and Jerry for building these great little contraptions. Jeff Fealko, Treasurer Western States Traditional Rendezvous The Idaho Traditional Bowhunters are hosting the 20th Annual Western State Traditional Rendezvous (WSTR) this year. The WSTR shoot was started at the suggestion of the late Jim Brackenbury. In his honor, the WSTR will from now on be known as the WSTR Jim Brackenbury Memorial Shoot. The WSTR traditionally travels from state to state and is always on Memorial Day weekend. This year s event will be held from May 23 to May 25. This great event has been held in Idaho before, as well as Oregon, Washington, California, and Nevada. We have decided to have the shoot at the Magic Mountain Ski Resort, just south of Twin Falls, Idaho. This is nice, central location for all There will be several different ranges. Since we are at Magic Mountain Ski Resort, they are going to allow us access to the chair lift. This should enable us to have a leisurely ride to the top, and shoot our way down. We are going to have several novelty shoots, including a smoker round on Friday night, a flashlight shoot on Saturday night, a money shoot on Sunday, and a blanket shoot on Monday. Also there will be other novelty shoots going on throughout the weekend including our new Water Torture (you ll have to come and see it!). Donations of any kind would be appreciated. We will have a raffle, and if you can t donate product, a donation of time would be great. We will be setting up the ranges on Thursday and Friday. If you can show up early and help, or stay on Monday and help tear down we would appreciate it. We will also need people to help with the novelties, maintain the ranges, run the registration table, and various other tasks that will arise over the course of the weekend. We have offered registration both by mail and online. If you didn t receive a flyer in the mail, you can download one from our website: idahotraditionalbowhunters.com

There is also a link that takes you to so you can register online with a credit card. Please take the time to pre-register as this helps us plan for the event. Don t forget to buy a T-shirt with your registration, they are very nice and you ll want to reserve yours in advance. I really hope to see everybody there, it s shaping up to be a great shoot, and don t forget to tell your friends. (see flyer on page 7) Blake Fischer, President ITB Carp Shoot Commin Up! June 6, Our annual Carp E Diem is always a good time. If the carp are running, they are literally everywhere. Some shoot from the banks, some wade through the water stalking their prey and others use boats to sneak up on unsuspecting carp. Girls, if you know someone with a boat, this could be the most fun you ve ever had with a bow. Carp shooting has become my girlfriend s and my favorite thing to do together and summer carp shooting can t get here fast enough. Some members and their families camp overnight and some just show up before the starting horn blows. Prizes are awarded for the biggest and the most carp harvested. (see flyer on page 8) Jerry Wilson at 6:30, and typically last about an hour. Our next meeting is May 13. Feel free to come as often as you d like. Addresses Although we traditional bowhunters value the simplicity of life in general, we are also faced with increased costs on general expenses within the club. That is why we are asking you to update us with your current address. This will allow us to send you information quickly, and free! If you prefer to receive a blackand-white version of the newsletters in the mail, we will gladly still do this for you. But if you d like to receive only an electronic version, you will be able to see all the pictures in full color as well as save ITB the postage costs of mailing newsletters (this would really help us out). Send an to any of the club officers, and we ll make note of this for future mailings. If you have not already renewed your membership, please do so. You will see there is this option when filling out your contact information. Jeff Fealko, Treasurer 2009 Cabin Fever Shoot The last day in February we headed to New Plymouth to a small plot of Idaho Fish and Game WMA land where our annual cabin fever shoot is held. There were 25 targets set up hiding between rows of corn, in thick brush, behind trees, and just in front of a flowing river some very realistic shooting scenarios. Needless to say I know I started with more arrows than I walked away with. I consider it a donation to the arrow gods to ensure my arrows fly true this spring and fall. Super Sweet Monthly Meeting On the second Wednesday of every month, we hold our monthly member meetings in the conference room at Cabela s. This is a great way to meet other ITB members, while providing feed back or ideas for future events. Meetings begin

In all, we had about 50 people in attendance, which included members and their families. This year s event was held at a new location, The Idaho Fish and Game Headquarters Trophy room, in Boise. There was more than enough seating for all, with full kitchen access and various trophy game animals to admire on the wall. A big Thank You! goes out to the Fish and Game Department for access to their facilities. The 2009 Cabin Fever Shoot was an event for all ages enjoyed by young and old alike. It was great to see all the volunteers show up on Friday night to get the course set up and arranged. Another thanks needs to go to Lee Roy Wilson for the nice spread of food he generously provided. You helped to keep the hungry masses at bay and allowed a lot of people to stay the whole day and enjoy the course multiple times. Thanks go out again to those who stayed the whole day and helped tear the range down. It truly makes it easier to hold these events for all our members when they contribute back and volunteer an hour at the end of the day to help. out on the range with all of Ryan s friends. We all know Ryan was there looking down over us helping to steer our arrows to their targets. A small memorial fund was gathered for Mike and his wife throughout the day, thanks to all who donated. Jeff Fealko, Treasurer Winter Game Feed (Banquet) This years ITB Wild Game Feed (Banquet), went on without a hitch. The food table was long and abundant. With name plates in front of the various dishes, which included Sheep Chili, Moose Italian Pasta, Snow s Duck Surprise, Teriyaki Spotted Owl Wings, Shredded Barb-b-que Moose, Smoked Sockeye Salmon, Hunter Elk Stew, Smoked Duck, Duck Jerky, Wild game salami and sausage, Deer Dropping Cookies, Various Pies, and many more. There was enough for seconds and thirds for everyone. Throughout the evening there were tall hunting stories shared, future The perfect weather minus a little bit of wind drew over fifty of us traditionalists out to dust off the bows and rekindle friendships lost through the long winter. It was also a day to remember Ryan Garner who had passed away three weeks prior to the shoot. He and his father Mike were always great supporters of ITB and he will be missed. It was good to see Mike Fun for all and good food too!

This year s Banquet was held at a new location, The Idaho Fish and Game Headquarters Trophy room. hunting plans made, wild game recipes exchanged, jokes of all kinds told, kids playing and members and their families mingling. TJ Conrads, of Traditional Bowhunter Magazine, was our guest speaker this year. With the help of TJ s lovely wife Robin, setting up the slide projector, TJ graciously gave a slide presentation of A Return to Bavaria, The presentation was personal account of his trip to Germany for the Traditional Bowhunters of Germany Rendezvous and his experience hosting his foreign friends here in Idaho, on a local elk hunt. TBM to read TJ s article A Return to Bavaria. The raffle was a huge success, with most families going home with multiple raffle prizes. Items for the raffle were donated by many companies and club members alike. Prizes included: Camp Chef products Traditional Bowhunter Magazine products Archery Past merchandise, Eclipse Broadheads Dozens of Raw Arrow Shafts Custom Wood Flu-Flu Arrows Custom Wood Target Arrows A Custom Yucca Back Quiver And more A special ITB thanks goes out to all those you donated to our raffle! The election results for the 2009 ITB Executive Officers were announced at the banquet, and are as follows: Blake Fischer, President Erik Snow, Vise President Jeff Fealco, Treasurer Dave Ankenbaurer, Secretary Congratulations to these volunteers for their dedication and hard work throughout the year. Without these volunteers and many of our members willing to give of their time for the club, we wouldn t be able to host the shoots and events we enjoy throughout the year. All in all, this years Wild Game Feed was a huge success and enjoyed by all. I don t think I m alone when I say that I m looking forward to next year s wild game feed, with fork in hand. Jerry Wilson The presentation was both entertaining and informative and was enjoyed by all. ITB is very grateful to TJ for his time and dedication to the traditionalists of the world. If you missed the presentation, you can refer to the Dec/Jan 2009 Raffle items a plenty!
