This year, we are celebrating 20 years of freestyle: what an amazing anniversary for us to celebrate here at FISE. We have seen some riders come and go, but we have seen some never leave our side. We have been the entry door for amateurs into the pro world. We have brought more action sports lovers into competition than any other event on earth. And with over one million people attending the FISE action sport festival in 2016, including people in Montpellier only, we know that what we are doing is reaching out to the masses, firing up passion for our beloved sports. This year, we celebrate our strong past, but we also celebrate what s ahead of us. We are stronger than ever, and so are the sports that make us who we are. With the Olympics in sight for BMX and skateboarding, we have never been so sure of a brighter future for the competitive side of action sports. 3 FWS KEY FACTS FISE HISTORY 500+ JOURNALISTS 7 SPORTS 2017 At 20 years old, the FISE continues its development in France and internationally. Its sports are now officially recognized by major federations like UCI and FIRS new disciplines: Wakeboard, Snowboard/Ski and Motocross Trial. International growth continues in Algeria and Kuwait. 2,000+ AM & PRO ATHLETES 55 COUNTRIES REPRESENTED st edition in North America. BMX Freestyle Park events become UCI BMX Freestyle Park World Cup. 1st edition of FISE World Series (FWS) international tour: France, Andorra, China, Malaysia. Skateboarding s grand comeback. 4 FREESTYLE PARK AREA FISE PARK structures rise to a cumulative height of 50 metres. The athletes performances are judged on various structures, where the difficulty of the tricks chosen is as important as their quality and amplitude. Making the best use of the Park and completing the maximum number of obstacles is important too, and these criteria push riders creativity when it comes to launching new tricks on modules shaped to increase amplitude and speed. UCI BMX FREESTYLE PARK WORLD CUP This year s collaboration between the International Union of Cyclists (UCI) and FISE continues with the UCI BMX Freestyle Park World Cup, the stages of which are to be part of the FISE World Series international circuit. Now recognized as an Olympic discipline, athletes ability in this sport will keep on increasing so as to be at the very highest level for Tokyo AREAS OF SPORT AND THEIR DISCIPLINES THE WONDERFUL BUDAPART KOPASZI-GÁT PARK CAN COMFORTABLY ACCOMMODATE EACH ZONE OR SPORTS AREA AND THEIR VARIOUS DISCIPLINES. FROM ROLLER TO BMX FREESTYLE ON THE PARK, DISCOVER ALL THE SPORTS THAT HAVE EVOLVED AROUND EACH OF THE STRUCTURES DESIGNED BY FISE AREA. ROLLER FREESTYLE PARK Roller Freestyle Park, practiced in the same zone as BMX Freestyle Park, enables athletes to use the structures to create figures in varying formats. The judges evaluate originality, style and difficulty of the tricks, as well as the overall impression of each ride. The International Federation of Roller Sports a collaboration this year between FISE and FIRS has been granted permission to establish a World Cup of Roller Freestyle, thus doubling the challenge for the riders. 6 7

5 FISE WORLD SERIES 2017 BUDAPEST Media Guide FREESTYLE FLATLAND AREA BMX FREESTYLE FLATLAND Performed on a flat surface with no predetermined structures, BMX Flat is the most artistic, aesthetic and creative form of the discipline, where athletes combine skill, balance and artistry. Every year, FISE pays tribute to BMX Flat by placing the competition at the heart of each event, where the particularly receptive crowds become as one. Part of every stage of the tour, the discipline will establish a general ranking for FISE World Series SKATEBOARD-OUT CONTEST This contest takes place on a flat surface, challenging the creativity of skateboarders. The first rider chooses and realizes a trick, then the other riders try to do it as well as the first, in one to three attempts. Every time one of them does not succeed, they are out of the contest, until only one rider remains. Coming as it does from the heart of Skateboard, this kind of contest always promises to be a fun and lively event. 8 9

6 FISE WORLD SERIES 2017 BUDAPEST Media Guide WAKEBOARD AREA FISE Budapest s Wakeboard area is going to be singularly spectacular as it provides athletes with the opportunity to ride the Danube s waters. It s the only stage where Wakeboarders will be pulled by a boat, and, together with the Wakesurf competition, will provide a brilliant show. As in the Lágymányosi-öböl area of BudaPart Kopaszi-gát Park, the spot offers some natural bleachers around the water where a huge crowd of spectators gathers to watch the competitions and to chill. WAKEBOARD Wakeboard, introduced in the early 1980s, can be defined as a cross between Waterski and Snowboard. Riders were originally pulled behind a boat, in its wake, and the sport has evolved as a result. It has been extended by the use of an electric cable, and a range of different kicks, rails and walls where athletes do tricks. Anyone and everyone who is curious about FISE sports can get a taster of them in Budapest. WAKESURF Based on the same ideas as Wakeboard, Wakesurf is practiced on the waves made by boats. The rider is towed by the handle, before releasing it to perform their ride. The goal is to make the maximum turns and tricks without being kicked out of the wave, either during a boat round trip or during a time limit. FISE Budapest will host the 3rd stop of Nautique European WakeSurf Tour, so the competition promises a high level of riding! 10 11

Huge engagement, many surprises, and some of the best tricks performed on the first try, this Parisian rider hasn t finished his FISE World Series challenge yet. ROMAIN GODENAIRE FISE WORLD SERIES OVERALL RANKING JOE ATKINSON This Frenchman is a Roller Freestyle pioneer and over his 23-year career he has reached the top of many international competitions such as FISE World Series. Already possessing two World Records, his passion and motivation have enabled him to travel the world to meet the Roller Freestyle community and develop his sport s world renown. He will be joining the Budapest stage of the tour to defend his place in the overall ranking. FISE WORLD SERIES 2017 STARTED IN MONTPELLIER A CITY WHICH HAS GIVEN THE TOUR ITS HIGHLY COMPETITIVE TONE. THE LEVEL OF EXPERTISE SHOWN BY RIDERS THERE IN EVERY SPORT AND CATEGORY IS A TEASER FOR HIGH EXPECTATIONS IN THE NEXT THREE STAGES. A worthy representative of his home country, this Roller Freestyle competitor always finds the time to share a few drinks whilst competing across Europe and internationally. From one podium to another, this Briton is now an emblematic figure in his sport and FISE World Series spectators always show their approval when welcoming him to the stage

Since then, the new world prodigy of BMX Freestyle has been on the podium at almost every event in which he has participated. Very technical and full of commitment, he proved his ability in 2015 by winning the FISE World Series and he was the first winner of the UCI 2016 BMX Freestyle Park World Cup. At only 15 years old and already on taking gold on the podium, Hannah s results encourage her to keep on throwing those amazing double bars and double whips. With the increasing female interest in BMX Freestyle, she is the perfect example to the sport s advocates through her dynamism in the Action Sports community. The evolution of her sport as an Olympic discipline is giving her a new goal and a new outlook for women s BMX. KONSTANTIN ANDREEV NIKITA DUCARROZ With his powerful riding style, this Russian rider is back on the FISE World Series 2017 Tour to challenge Logan Martin. As was the case in every 2016 stage, the two athletes kicked of the 2017 Series in Montpellier by demonstrating a huge range of large-scale tricks. With plenty of fans following him on Instagram, Konstantin never misses an opportunity to share the incredible spots where he rides while travelling and competing in global competitions. At the heart of Action Sport culture, California proved the best place for Nikita to begin her BMX career six years ago. She is now a full-time rider, dividing her time between training, travelling for contests, and working out to have as much fun as possible while riding. This twenty-year-old Brand ambassador is extremely active on social network, and is working hard to increase women s credibility on the international BMX Freestyle scene. DANIEL DHERS MACARENA PEREZ Highly involved in BMX Freestyle Park s international outreach, this Venezuelan rider maintains his excellent riding skills first shown on his sensational entrance on the scene in With his runs, as clean as they are consistent, he is always somewhere on the podium steps at professional competitions. He is gradually moving to an ambassador position to promote his sport something he is doing with the permanent smile and humbleness that are his trademarks. As much in love with riding wooden Parks as in chilling on Dirt tracks, Macarena is passionately her passion for BMX Freestyle in Chile and around the world. Actively involved in promoting her sport to the young, she never misses a chance to cheer up her fans. By travelling a great deal, and by riding hard, she is blossoming as an athlete, and her radiant smile is a constant during international competitions such as FISE World Series

He defines his sport as breakdancing on a bike and always rides with the same artistic style which got him the gold medal at FISE Montpellier. MATTHIAS DANDOIS Five times world champion (2008, 2009, 2011, 2012, 2016), this Parisian BMX Flat rider is getting on the podium at every competition in which he participates. He drives his van around the world to find the best spots for his videos, always manages to enjoy shows and interviews, and continues to democratize his sport and urban culture. Second in Montpellier, he comes to Budapest more determined than ever reclaim first place! BENJAMIN HUDSON Ever more present at global competitions, this smiley Chilean has blossomed in the BMX Flatland community by travelling and riding with friends. Even as his career takes a truly professional turn, he takes it easy and continues to enjoy simple sessions and having fun on his bike. The young people in Chile are showing an increasing interest for BMX Flatland, which makes Benjamin proud and gives him inspiration and more energy for contests
