2 SAPB Meeting Minutes Romeo Gutierrez- Batista, Club Secretary Meeting Minutes Date: Time: 7:00 p.m. The April 2007 Propbusters Meeting was called to order at 7:02 p.m. at Grady s Restaurant, President Charles Strang, presiding. 7:04 p.m. April 2007 Meeting Minutes were approved by a unanimous Aye vote. Visitors at the Meeting: Alex Trevino and coworker from KSAT 12. Saw SAPB Flyer at the Hobby Shop. President s Report: (President: Charles Strang) 7:05 p.m. NONE 7:05 p.m. The club is looking to buy new Hats and T-Shirts. July 28, 2007 SAPB Fun Fly and Swap Meet Vice President/Safety Officer s Report: 7:06 p.m. ( Crash Siegel ) Crash stated that they had a Race with 30 mph winds. A reminder that our club is AMA Sanctioned. If you do not have an AMA membership, you cannot fly at the SAPB Fields. Please Pre-Flight your airplane and check that everything works properly before attempting to fly. Secretary s Comments: Let me know your name and prize you won for the newsletter. 7:07p.m. Treasurer s Report: (Jim Branaum) Treasurer read the Report for May, the expenses, balances and the Rollover for the prior month. 7:08 p.m. Jim reiterated that due to his Preflight of his airplane he found a movement on one of his control surfaces that would have cost him his airplane. He therefore still has his airplane due to checking everything before he flew his aircraft. 7:11 p.m. Jim spoke about our Raffle and said that it is Member supported. Last month we spent about $130 Dollars and only brought in $90 Dollars. Therefore the Raffle went in the red for last month. This causes the amount of monies set aside for the December Raffle to be smaller than usual. We need to support our Raffle. Early Bird Raffle: 7:12 p.m. Eddie Flesher -- Gallon of Fuel Jenny Strang -- Gift Certificate Jim Branaum -- Gift Certificate Field Manager s Report : 7:15p.m. Hilmer Merz not present. The Field is looking okay. Events Manager s Report: ( Bob Severance ) 7:15 p.m. He has tickets for attending the SAPB Meeting. Bob has two kits a Mojo 60 and a Mojo 25. He will be selling tickets for the kits. July Tailgate Swap Meet and Fun Fly for the CLUB Next Weekend Warbird Fly In TRI-CITY at Seguin Auxiliary Field If you bring a Camper you can spend the night Friday Night after 5:00 p.m. you can setup your RV. It is a Military Fun Fly for aircraft used in all wars. Even a yellow J3 Cub will work. The First Sunday of the Month River City Float Fly has been cancelled. 7:20 p.m. There were Races with 30 mph winds and 16 People were flying. The Committee has a lot of Clubs that want to participate in the Skyraider Races. 7:22 p.m. The Committee needs to use the SAPB Somerset Field for a Race on June 9 th instead of June 16 th. The request was brought to the membership. 7:25 p.m. The proposal to use the SAPB Field on June 9 th 2007 was approved. 7:26 p.m. On May 19 th a Race will be at the TRI-CITY Field. There are currently 21 Preregistered Advanced Pilots and 9 Preregistered Novice Pilots. Membership Report: 7:27 p.m. Rick Storm No new Applicants for membership this month. Reminder that Renewal Memberships are due in July. Start sending in your Renewal fees. We had two Visitors at the Meeting. There is a $50.00 Initiation Fee and $48.00 per Year membership Dues. Dues are Prorated at $4.00 a Month if joining other than at the start of the Membership Year. (SUPER DEAL $4.00 a Month to be a SAPB Member with all the flying privileges.) August is catch up Month. If you do not pay your Dues by the August Meeting you get voted out of the Club in September. Notices for Renewal will go out on the next SAPB Newsletter. Newsletter Report: 7:31 p.m. (Ken Erickson) If you have Word you can just take the old newsletter and add in the new stuff. Need a volunteer to take over the Newsletter. The current editor has a lot of other things going on at the same time. Field Search Report: (Jim Branaum) 7:33 p.m. The Field Search Committee has a Plan to engage the city officials concerning a new flying field. After the Elections are over they will go to the officials and if they are not heard they will go up the chain of command until someone hears them. Break: 7:35 p.m. Five minute break. Old Business: 7:44 p.m. Hats and Shirts for the Club. There is a $10.00 dollar per stitch setup fee. Bob Severance moved to let Strang negotiate a deal for 5 dozen caps (60 each) not to exceed $8.50 a Cap. The motion was seconded. All the Aye s carried the motion. We will discuss T-Shirt prices at the next meeting. Proposed short sleeve with pocket. T-Shirts with standard 3X3 Logo from $8.67 to $14.00 each. Do we need a SAPB Logo on the back of the shirt? Yes. Will bring data next meeting. New Business: 7:56 p.m. NONE Model Of the Month: 7:57 p.m. 1- Chuck Waller F-22 Raptor Hangar Nine SUpertigre 46 Engine. Needs a 50 Size Engine to handle it better. Takes off in 300 feet on grass runway. If you get it too slow it will drop a wing. Weighs 7 lbs. 6 oz. and has 650 square inches of area. He likes the speed and it flies similar to a turbine airplane. The Flaps are very effective and make it very stable. Lands very solid at about a 45 degree attitude. Fin and tail feathers are held together with bolts. 8:09 p.m. Winner of the Model of the Month was Chuck Waller with his F-22 Raptor ARF. Show and Tell: 8:02 p.m. Lee Moore Presented his work in progress. The Crystal Bullet. It was not very popular with Pilots. Scratch built from Gerry Bates plans. It is ¼ Scale and has a Genoa 26 Engine. Cooling is mostly through the center hole on the spinner. He will cover it with nelson fabric and paint. He has one and a half months of work in it so far. Crash Dummy Award: 7:37 7:40 p.m. Greg Vincent had a 60 Sized Yellow Cub. He crashed by the fence on takeoff. Upon takeoff the Cub yawed off to the left and cart wheeled over the electric wire fence. I Am not going to attempt to name them. Chuck Waller and George Sheffield were the main officials for this race. There were 20 pilots registered for the Advanced class and 12 for the Novice class. Prop Busters members Crash and Jeremy Siegle were volunteer cut judges for most of the day. The results of the heats were tallied, and the pilots were assigned to the Mains according to points totals. If a pilot placed first in the Main, he/she was then allowed to fly in the next faster Main. There was some carnage. One of the most spectacular was when Stan Latrelle lost all control after a mid-air and the plane came straight down from about 150 feet to land about 10 feet from the Judges stand. (Pictured in column one). Also after a mid-air, Keith Moody s plane, at much lower altitude, made its way to the area beyond the parked cars. In the Novice B Main, Next race is June 9 th at SAPB field, Somerset.
