The Museum, which opened in 1994, has been a highly regarded institution showcasing exhibitions relevant to residents and visitors. It has continued to offer opportunities to learn about and appreciate contemporary and historical art, architecture and design that is connected to the community. As well, through exhibitions, publications and public programs including the West Coast Modern Home Tour, the Museum highlights the accomplishments of mid-century architects and designers who developed a regional style in West Vancouver known as West Coast Modernism. The Museum is also committed to working with Indigenous artists and curators and mounts exhibitions that examine this important aspect of West Vancouver's heritage and history alongside contemporary perspectives. The Museum's Permanent Collection ensures the legacy of community members who create, enjoy or collect art by making their works available to residents and visitors. Established in 2006, the Permanent Collection offers generous patrons the opportunity to donate works by important artists or art that reflects community interests in West Vancouver. The Museum continues to hold the West Vancouver archives, although the District's Legislative Services Department is responsible for the collection of archives. The importance of heritage has been recognized and identified in the Arts & Culture Strategy. The Strategy recommends expanding heritage programming by working with heritage groups and agencies to improve and integrate programming that reflects the diverse nature of West Vancouver and its rich history. We look forward to working with the heritage community to sha e and implement ideas that will profile the community's history and heritage. Sincerely, Doti Doti Niedermayer Senior Manager, Cultural Services I District of West Vancouver t: I c: I westvancouver.ca
