3 Introduction and Welcome Japan Rowing Association It is our great pleasure to host 2019 the World Rowing Junior Championships in Tokyo. On behalf of our rowing community in Japan and the Organising Committee, I would like to extend a welcome to all the teams. These championships will take a place at Sea Forest Waterway, and construction is well underway to be completed in spring Sea Forest Waterway will also feature as the rowing venue for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games. The regatta course is located near the Tokyo Bay, in the capital city of Japan and our new permanent facility will become one of the best international standard courses. The 2019 World Rowing Junior Championships will be the first international event to be held at Sea Forest Waterway and has an important roll as test event for the rowing regatta of Tokyo We are expecting over 1,000 athletes and team officials from 50 nations all across the world. The OC members of the 2019 World Rowing Junior Championships are working hard to prepare for your stay. We welcome the National Federations of FISA and spectators with the characteristic Japanese hospitality Omotenashi. We look forward to welcoming the FISA rowing family from all over the world to our event, to help us prepare for Tokyo See you all in Tokyo next summer. President, 2019 World Rowing Junior Championships Organising Committee Naotake OKUBO Tokyo 2020 On behalf of the Rowing Team for The Tokyo Organising Committee of Olympic and Paralympic Games, I wish to extend a warm welcome to all athletes, coaches, staff, volunteers and spectators from all around the world. Sea Forest Waterway is a new rowing course in the waterway between two lush islands in the Tokyo Bay. At our venue the dramatic urban landscape and the wonderful view of Tokyo Bay will form the backdrop of international rowing. The 2019 World Rowing Junior Championships will be the first FISA Event to be held at Sea Forest Waterway, a venue constructed to host the rowing and canoe sprint regattas for the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Following the upcoming summers, this course will be used as a host for international rowing events and form a new foundation to strengthen rowing in Japan. It was a longstanding wish of the Japanese rowing community to have a course which can facilitate international rowing events in the heart of Tokyo. By hosting the 2019 World Rowing Junior Championships at Sea Forest Waterway we can make this wish a reality. This event will be the start of a new chapter for rowing in Japan. A new legacy for competition management and spectators experience will prepare us for the exciting years to come. The 2019 World Rowing Junior Championships will be the start of a bridge towards the Olympic and Paralympic rowing competition at Sea Forest Waterway in 2020 and the 2021 World Masters Games in Kansai. 4 Japan Japan is situated in northeastern Asia between the North Pacific and the Sea of Japan. The area of Japan is 377,944m2. It consists of up to 6,852 islands, including four of the large main islands. The population is over 126 million and most Japanese reside in densely populated urban areas such as Tokyo, Japan s capital. One of Japan's attractions is the beautiful nature found across the country. The variety of nature gives us a completely different impression with each season. For centuries, the seasons have been deeply related to daily Japanese life in many ways, leading to a great sensitivity about the seasons. On the surface, Japan appears exceedingly modern, but travelling around it offers numerous opportunities to encounter the country's traditional culture. Japanese culture such as Zen rock garden, matcha, and Sushi keeps attracting millions of visitors every year and it is spreading around the world. Mount Fuji (富士山, Fujisan), which is a symbol of the championships official logo, Japan s highest mountain, is with 3776 meters. It is not surprising that the nearly perfectly shaped volcano has been worshiped as a sacred mountain and experienced big popularity among artists and common people throughout the centuries. Mount Fuji is an active volcano, which most recently erupted in It stands on the border between Yamanashi and Shizuoka Prefectures and can be seen from Tokyo and Yokohama on clear days. 4 Tokyo Convention & Visitors Bureau 写真提供 やまなし観光推進機構

5 Tokyo Tokyo ( 東京 ) is Japan's capital. It is also one of Japan's 47 prefectures, consisting of 23 central city wards and multiple cities, towns and villages west of the city center. The Izu and Ogasawara Islands are also part of Tokyo. Today, Tokyo offers a seemingly unlimited choice of shopping, entertainment, culture and dining to its visitors. The city's history can be appreciated in many excellent museums, historic temples and gardens. Contrary to common perception, Tokyo also offers numerous attractive green spaces in the city center and within relatively short train rides at its outskirts. Tokyo Gate Bridge Tokyo Gate Bridge ( 東京ゲートブリッジ ) is a truss cantilever bridge across Tokyo Bay, opened on 12 February The bridge can be seen from Sea Forest Waterway and it is one of attractive scenary. The shape of the bridge looks like two dinosars looking at each other, so it is sometimes called Dinosar Bridge. Odaiba Odaiba ( お台場 ) is a large artificial island and is the area that Sea Forest Waterway consists. It was initially built for defensive purposes in the 1850s, dramatically expanded during the late 20th century as a seaport district, and has developed since the 1990s as a major commercial, residential and leisure area. Today, a number of visitors enjoy shopping and activities in the amusement park and Television company headquarter. Asakusa and Tokyo Sky Tree Town Asakusa ( 浅草 ) still remains an old townscape and atmosphere lined with old-established shops that let visitors feel the mood of the Edo era. Sensoji Temple ( 浅草寺 ) in Asakusa is the oldest temple in Tokyo, built in 628. A number of visitors enjoy taking pictures with Kaminarimon Gate ( 雷門 ) and shopping in Nakamise ( 仲見世 ) Shopping street. Tokyo Sky Tree Town is also one of Tokyo s new sightseeing spots and it can be accessed by crossing bridges on Sumida River. Local Transport The Organising Committee will provide the transportation between the airport and the hotels and shuttle service between the hotels and the venue. The transportation service will be provided for teams who book the accommodation through the Organising Committee. The airport transport service will operate from 1 to 13 August and shuttle service from the hotels and venue is from 4 to 11 August. Travel details forms should be submitted by 30 June 2019 via the official website. 9

10 Access Spectator access to the venue There is no direct access by public transportation to the competition venue. Shuttle busses will be available to spectators between Tokyo Teleport Station and Sea Forest Waterway on all competition days. Tokyo Teleport Station can be reached by public transport on the Rinkai Line. More information regarding this shuttle service will be made available at a later stage on the website. Team Managers of these teams will be contacted to fill out a transport booking form in order to receive accurate transportation services. Tokyo has two main airports to have an easy access to the city; Narita Airport and Haneda Airport. These are the official airport of the Championships Transportation of boat containers and trailers. All teams are required to schedule the delivery of their container or boat trailer through the Organising Committee. More information regarding container shipping, delivery windows and support will be listed this on our website soon. Please keep an eye out for this information or contact the Organising Committee if you have any questions prior to publication. Transportation between accommodation and venue During official training and racing days a shuttle service will operate between the hotels and Sea Forest Waterway. The shuttle service will be available to all accredited persons who have booked accommodation through the Organising Committee. Teams are required to fill in the transport request form for the following day. Limited accredited parking for teams is available upon request, but traffic priority will be given towards the shuttle services for teams who have booked accommodation through the Organising Committee. The accredited parking tickets will be distributed on a first come first serve basis, with the maximum of one team vehicle per National Federation. 10

11 Additional Info Security All venue areas checked by security service company for 24 hours. Visa Japan has taken measures concerning the Visa Exemption Arrangements with 68 countries and regions. These counties and regions are listed on the web site for Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan. ( Nationals and citizens of those countries and regions are not required to obtain visas to enter Japan when their visits are tourism, commerce, conferences, visiting relatives/ acquaintances, etc. However, when foreign nationals engage in paid activities in Japan, or their periods of stay exceed those stipulated in each country s arrangement of short-term stay, visas will be required to enter Japan. *Period of Stay; The period of stay granted at the time of the landing permission will be "15 days" for Brunei, Indonesia, and Thailand, and "30 days" for United Arab Emirates and "90 days" for other countries and regions. Teams from counties or regions which is necessary to require visa need to fill in the Visa Application Form which can be downloaded and uploaded on the official website. The original copy of an invitation letter will be sent approximately two weeks after the acceptance of the form. It takes more time depending on the area. Medical Medical facilities will be available for both teams and spectators. On water safety will be available during all official training hours and during racing. 11

The application process for accreditation will open early 2019 and will be handled by FISA, applications can be found at: If you have any additional questions, please contact Please note that all international and national media requests are handled by FISA. Accreditations for all media will be available for pick up upon arrival from the Accreditation Center. The Media Centre will be located just behind the newly build grand stand and only allows access to accredited media. Daily start list and results will be distributed, and appropriate work spaces will be provided. Seats for media will be made available in the press tribune. 12
