1 News Bulletin Apr 2017 Secretary: Sara Rayhel Cell Phone iaasec@il-archery.com Come like us on Facebook. FROM SARA S SPOT: Another great IAA Indoor State Championship was held in March and continued to grow in the number of participants. Thank you to Springfield Archery for hosting our event again this year. Results are in the bulletin and on IAA Facebook. Pictures of the State Indoor can also be seen on IAA Facebook. Congratulations to the Great Lakes Indoor Sectionals participants. The Illinois archers were impressive with first place wins by AFFS Cassie Flood, AFTrad Maria Mascarenas, AMBB Jason Wesbrock, AMBHFSL John Bloom, AMFSLR Jonas Lumayag, CMFSL Paul Webb, MSMBHFS Ron Whitlock, PFFS Dusti Batsch, SMBB Brent Bodoh, SMFSL Mike Lantz, SMLB Eric Mogren, SSFBHFS Pat Whitlock, SSFFS Nancy Zorn, SSMBH Norm Lauer, SSMTrad Ken Winkelhake, YAFFSLR Lauren Iodice, YFFSLR Zoe Woods, and YMFS Nathan Zimmerman, and second place wins by AMFS Dan Batsch, SFFS Darlene Kossler, SMFSLR Marcial Villaverde, SSFFS Jan Domke, SSMBB Stephen Sodaro, SSMBHFS Jozef Maka, and YAMFS Matthew Kerkshire. Good Shooting everyone! The NFAA Indoor Nationals at Cincinnati was a new venue after being in Louisville for many years. Attendance was close to 2000 shooters. Results can be seen at Compliments to all the archers. Awarded 3 rd place was YMFS Nathan Zimmerman, SSFFS Nancy Zorn, and AFTrad Maria Mascarenas. Awards for 2 nd place went to CMFSL Paul Webb, MSMFSL Ken Yeater, and SMLongbow Eric Mogren. Thank you to all who helped with the NASP state shoot. It was a bittersweet win for Centennial High School who had a member of their sophomore team pass away 2 weeks prior to the shoot. The tournament was dedicated to the memory of Luke Miller and we send our condolences to the family and friends of the young archer. The IAA Board meeting scheduled for March 26 was cancelled. The next meeting is set for July 8 at the State Target at Pekin.

4 To make this year s gun raffle a success, we will need every member s help. The proceeds from the raffles enabled the IAA to function for the last few years. It s what we used to purchase the State Championship trophies which cost the IAA approximately $ for the previous years. This cost previously was taken from the entry fees of each tournament before the club/iaa split. Aggregate trophies are paid for solely by the State Organization. Throughout the year, we have additional expenses. The only other income we get each year is from the State dues and the small percentage we get from the State Shoots each year. Without the previous gun raffle, the IAA could have been out of money and unable to continue. So please take a few minutes and think about this, then get with either Bill Mohn or Sara Rayhel and have them send some tickets to you. We need your help. Robert, IAA Chairman The IAA Board of Directors and the members that were present at the convention in March decided to hold another Gun Raffle to raise money for the organization. This will enable the organization to do more things to promote itself and the sport that we all love. Ticket Prices are $20.00 each and tickets are on sale. First drawing will be in January of We have to sell 600 tickets before the drawings will start. If we do not sell at least 600 tickets, it will become a 50/50 drawing. Guns will not be purchased until after each drawing. Winner may want cash instead of the gun for that month. If the winner chooses the gun, there may be a delay in delivery of the gun due to some shortages from manufacturers, according to the firearms dealer we are working with. Only 2000 tickets will be printed which will increase the odds of winning. Drawn ticket will go back into the bucket for the next drawing so 1 person has the potential to win all 12 guns for an investment of $ Bill Mohn and Bill Schuh again graciously agreed to administer the raffle for the IAA. Club contacts or members contact Bill Mohn for tickets. Club contact will distribute tickets to club members. They know the members and can better control tickets and money. Club contact will collect the ticket stubs and $$ or checks. Please make checks payable to IAA for amount collected. Seller puts their name on the back of the ticket stub that they sell. For every 10 tickets that you sell, seller gets one free. Each member needs to turn in their sold ticket stubs by the 15th of the month for the next month s drawing. Tickets can be sold to non-illinois residents. IL residents will require a FOID card to accept a gun. Non IL residents will need to make delivery arrangements with their local FFL gun dealer to receive any guns won. Contact info: Bill Mohn cell, tighttweener@warpnet.net RETURN ALL TICKET STUBS AND MONEY TO BILL MOHN, 3729 OLD WATERWORKS RD, SPRINGFIELD, IL BY THE 15th of the month for the next month s drawing. IAA Raffle Ticket Selling Tips 1. Contact your local club raffle contact or Bill Mohn at to obtain tickets to sell. 2. The tickets cost $ Ask friends, family and co-workers if they like guns and gun raffles. If they say no, then ask them if they like cash. There is a cash option for each raffle if they don t want a gun. Show them the back of the tickets for the list of guns and cash options. 4. Explain that these tickets are for 12 raffles at about $1.67 per raffle. The winning tickets go back in the cage for the next drawing so all tickets are in all 12 raffles. 5. Have the buyer fill out the left portion of ticket so we can contact them. Tear of the right portion of ticket and give to the buyer so they can see what is being given away each month. 6. Be sure to put your name on the back of the ticket stub as IAA member. For every 10 tickets you sell, you get 1 ticket free. 7. Mail ticket stubs and a check for the total sold to Bill Mohn. Make checks payable to IAA or Illinois Archery Association. 8. If you have any questions, contact Bill Mohn: cell, tighttweener@warpnet.net Notes: Some people may ask how they get their gun if they live out of state. If people live out of state or don t want to pick up their gun at our dealer in Springfield, IL, they can have the gun shipped from our dealer to an FFL gun dealer near them. Then they can pick up their gun at their local dealer. Some people may ask if they need a FOID to buy tickets. They do not need a FOID to buy tickets. If they are a winner and live in Illinois and want a gun instead of cash, then they will need a FOID. Out of state winners do not need a FOID.
