FROM SARA S SPOT It seemed more like July weather than the middle of June at Panther Creek s Great Lakes NFAA Outdoor Sectionals with over 90 0 temperatures both days, but those who braved the heat shot on fantastic courses that the hardworking members had set. A big thanks to Bill for the manicured grounds and Bill, Jeanne, Tim, Eldon, Craig and others who worked to have the ranges ready. Congratulations to Illinois archers who took Championship places in SMFSL- Mike Lantz; SSFFS- Nancy Zorn; SSMFS Mike Flier (shoot off against Randy Rutledge); and SSMFSL- Tim Bush. Scores from the weekend are in the bulletin and posted on Facebook. The IAA Outdoor State Target Championship will be held at Pekin on July 14 & 15. Registration form is in the newsletter and on the IAA website. This is the second leg of the competition for the coveted award of Shooter of the Year buckle. It is also the second leg for the highest overall scoring male and female under 18 years old, following the same guidelines as the adults, to receive Shooter of the Year buckles.

Archers will shoot a double line at the discretion of the tournament chairman. An END consists of six arrows, except for 40 yards -- each END at 40 yards will be shot in two groups of three. The round will begin with two official practice ends. Shooting will commence and end with a whistle blast. Several whistle blasts in rapid succession means that there is an emergent situation and stop shooting IMMEDIATELY. SPOTTING AIDS MAY BE USED. SCORING: INNER GOLD 10 OUTER GOLD 9 INNER RED 8 OUTER RED 7 INNER BLUE 6 OUTER BLUE 5 INNER BLACK 4 OUTER BLACK 3 INNER WHITE 2 OUTER WHITE 1 Arrows must TOUCH the scoring line to be in the higher scoring area. Arrows and scoring fact are not to be touched until all arrows are scored and recorded. SCORECARDS: There will be duplicate scoring. Two archers are chosen to be scorekeepers, one archer will call the value of the arrows and one archer will be target captain. If there is any disagreement in the group as to the value of an arrow, the target captain will make the final decision. The numeric value of each arrow, total end score and total round score shall be recorded. At the completion of the second day s round, the total score for both days shall be recorded. Each archer is individually responsible for seeing that his arrows are called correctly and properly entered on the score cards and that his score cards are turned in to the proper officials signed by both scorers and the archer.

8 SHOOTING THE ROUND: There will be a 5 minute time limit. At the discretion of the tournament chairman, the time limit may be extended based on weather conditions. Unsuspected pass-throughs will be re-shot after all rounds have been completed for that day. Any arrow that has passed through the target face in such a manner that it can easily be pushed back through and scored may be pushed back through after all arrows in the target have been scored and recorded it all target mates are in agreement. If the arrow is hanging from the back of the target at an angle and cannot be easily pushed back through and scored, or if all target mates are not in agreement, this must be treated as an unsuspected pass-through and re-shot as above. If an arrow should hang from the scoring face, shooting shall be interrupted and a field official shall immediately reinsert the arrow in its proper place in the scoring face. If the arrow falls or bounces from the target face it will be re-shot as above. Hits on the wrong target shall score as misses. If an archer shoots less than six arrows at 60 and 50 yards, or less than 3 arrows at 40 yards, he may shoot the remaining arrows if the omission is discovered before the end is officially completed. Otherwise, they shall score as misses. If an archer shoots more than the prescribed number of arrows in one end, only the lowest arrows shall score. (at ends of six, only the lowest scoring six arrows shall score, at ends of three, only the lowest scoring three shall score). In case of equipment failure, verified by the range captain, the archer will have 45 minutes for repair, and one practice end to re-sight. Missed ends will be made up at the completion of the round for that day. An archer is not entitled to repeat a shot unless the mis-shot arrow can be reached by the bow from the archer s position on the shooting line. If a target butt falls before an end is scored, that end will be re-shot by all archers on that target butt after the completion of the round for that day. Archers may not make up lost ends or arrows except as specified. FLIGHTING: NFAA flighting system will be used for class/styles with 10 or more archers. For a two day tournament: Archers will be placed in flights after the first day s round is completed, and will remain in these flights for the duration of the tournament. For a one-day tournament: Archers will be placed in flights at the conclusion of the tournament. TIES: For a two day tournament: All ties for awards will be shot off at maximum distance one end of three arrows scored inside out. If still tied, then arrow by arrow sudden death. For a one day tournament: Ties for awards will be broken by scoring the last two ends at 60 yards inside/out. Duplicate awards will be given if the archers remain tied on inside/out scoring.
