3 RULES & REGULATIONS FOR PARTICIPANTS & EXHIBITORS DURING THE BATH COUNTY FAIR 1. Entries will be accepted as outlined in each contest section in this booklet. All entries must be the handiwork or produced by the exhibitor. Residents of Bath County, along with surrounding Alleghany, Highland & Rockbridge areas are eligible to enter exhibits in the Fair. 1. Any person entering more than one exhibit is requested to use the same name and coinciding information (phone number, address, etc). 2. Entries MUST NOT be removed from exhibit areas before the end of the Fair. 3. Classes with only one entry can receive first place ribbons with 2 nd place premiums. 4. The Bath County Fair reserves the right to refuse any entry offered and require removal from grounds any exhibit which the Fair Committee shall, for any reason, deem unfit or objectionable. 5. The exhibitor assumes all risks of damage or loss either to person or property for any cause whatsoever. It is further expressly understood and agreed between the exhibitor and the Bath County Fair and Millboro Elemetary School that the Fair incur no liability or obligation to the exhibitor other than permitting the exhibitor to use the building for exhibits. 6. The Fair Committee reserves the right to refuse admission to any person(s) in the interest of the safety and welfare of those in attendance. 7. Dogs must be on a leash at all times and kept outdoors; no indoor entry. Animal waste is the responsibility of the owner. 8. SOUND LEVEL: Any device which produces sound must be operated so as not to be disturbing to others. Management reserves the right to determine acceptable sound levels. 9. UNAUTHORIZED ADVERTIZING AND DISPLAYS: Only individuals, firms, or organizations currently contracted with the Fair shall be allowed to exhibit or display any products or services and/or solicit, advertise or distribute any materials. For a Vendor Agreement or Educational Exhibit Registration, contact Eddy Hicklin, Bath County Fair Committee at Infringement of this rule will result in prompt removal of the offending party from the grounds. 10. PARKING: Millboro Elementary School Front Parking lot will be marked off for Fair use and Handicap accessibility. DO NOT PARK IN SUCH A WAY THAT YOU ARE BLOCKING THE REGULAR FLOW OF TRAFFIC. 11. Conduct: The Fair is open to the general public. It is important that you conduct yourself in the safest manner possible. 12. NO SMOKING OR USE OF ALCOHOL at any time during the Fair. 13. 4 EXHIBITING RULES AND REGULATIONS For Departments A, B, C, D & E 1. Exhibits must have been made/purchased/grown by the individual within the last twelve months. 2. Age Sections for each Class are as follows: Section 1: Youth (ages 3-12) Section 2: Senior Youth (ages 13-18) Section 3: Adult (age 19+) 3. All exhibits must be recorded and tagged by fair volunteers before going on display. 4. Each exhibitor is permitted one entry per class. Exhibits cannot be entered as miscellaneous if there is a definite category. 5. All departments are open to any adult or youth exhibitor. 6. Exhibits NOT picked up by the end of the Fair will be discarded. Unclaimed cash premiums will be donated back to the Fair for next year. 7. The Fair will exercise all care, but cannot be held liable for loss, theft, or casualty to exhibits. 8. Judge s decision is final! No exceptions. 9. Premiums for Fair Exhibit Entries are: a. 1 st : $ nd : $ rd : $ NO UNAUTHORIZED PERSONNEL in Display Areas during judging. Signs will be posted. Exhibits will open after judging is complete. 11. Best in Show is awarded at judges discretion. There may or may not be a Best in Show in each department. Department A - HOMEMAKING Rules and Regulations for Department A: 1. Entries must be the handiwork of the exhibitor. 2. The Fair assumes no responsibility in case of loss or damage to exhibits from any cause. 3. Place any entry in a clear plastic bag for its protection. Judges will remove entry for judging. 4. Ribbons will be awarded on a Danish system. Baked Goods 1. All entries in this division must be covered and on a small disposable plate no larger than Amounts needed per entry per class are designated in parentheses ( ) to the right of the class title. Classes are the same for each Age Section. see page 4 3. Basket entries can include other items to compliment baked goods condiments, tableware, etc. Class 1: Chocolate Chip Cookies (4) Class 2: No Bake Cookies Class 3: Drop Cookies Class 4: Bar Cookies Class 5: Other Cookies Class 6: Cakes (1/4) Class 7: Pies (1/4) Class 8: Breads/Rolls (1/2 loaf or 6 rolls) Class 9: Decorated Cupcake (3) Class 10: Decorated Cake (1) Class 11: Decorated Cookies (4) Class 12: Baked Goods Basket (5+ items) 4

5 Canned Goods 1. All entries must be in clean, regulation canning jars. Entries not in regulation canning jars will not be judged. 2. Jar rings must be left on. No zinc lids or paraffin will be accepted. 3. Any entry exhibiting spoilage will be disqualified. Any jar may be opened by the judge(s). 4. Classes are the same for each Section. see page 4 5. Only ONE entry per class per participant. 6. Jelly is made from fruit juice; Jam is made from pureed fruit; Preserves are made from whole fruit. Workmanship: Neatness, suitability, practical method of construction, durability, practicality. 6 Crafts, Hobbies & Photography 1. Pictures & Artwork should be framed and the ability to be hung on a hook. Pictures unable to be displayed will not be judged. Minimum size for Pictures & Artwork is 4in x 6in. Maximum is 4ft x 4ft; larger items must be approved prior to entry by Committee. 2. Photos & Artwork MUST be the work of the exhibitor. 3. Classes are the same for each Age Section. see page 4 4. The MES Class Project is an entry made by an entire MES Class a. Premiums for MES Class entry are 1 st - $10; 2 nd -$7, 3 rd - $5 Class 34: Oil Class 35 Watercolor Class 36 Ink or Pencil Class 37: Mixed Media, Collage Class 38: Photo Portrait Class 39: Photo Animal Class 40: Photo Outdoor/Scenery Class 41: Photo Humor Class 42: Picture Story (3 photos that tell a story, include a title/theme) Class 43: Special Effects (original photo altered/changed) Class 44: Jewelry handmade or kit Class 45: Hanging Ornament Class 46: Stained Glass or Glass art Class 47: Other Artwork Class 48: Wood Working Class 49: Popsicle stick art Class 50: Recycled Products Art Class 51: Decorated Clothing Class 52: MES Class Project Entry (should be a single item, made by the class as a group) Department C Agricultural Products and Floriculture Fresh Produce 1. All entries be grown by or with the help of the exhibitor. 2. Entries should be clean; no waxing or polishing. 3. Classes are the same for each Age Section.-see page 2. Standards: Natural vegetable color, tender, characteristic smell and/or flavor. Ripened, not overripe. Basket of Produce must be at least 5 but no more than 10 items of fresh produce, organized in a neat fashion; Basket of Produce Class ONLY can include figurines, fabric or other decoration to enhance entry. A 4 x 6 notecard should display the Basket Theme or Title. Project books are judged according to completeness and neatness, based on the skill level of the youth. Project books are available year round and free of charge or reasonably priced from the 4-H Agent at the Extension Office or can be purchased from Check with the 4-H Agent before purchasing they may have a copy at the office. Premiums are 1 st - $5; 2 nd - $4; 3 rd - $3 and Fair Ribbon Class J: 4-H Project book Junior level (age 9-13) Class S: 4-H Project book Senior level (age 14-19) 7
