1 Tiger Tales JANUARY 27, 2014 VOLUME 2 ISSUE 6 Jacob hepper and Buddy Swanson win fishing tournament On January 4, 2014, the Mobridge Tiger Ice Fishing Tournament took place. The tournament was sponsored by the Mobridge Pollock Fishing Club is the first year that the tournament took place. Prizes were awarded to participants placing in first through fifth. There were 18 teams total that participated in the tournament. The winners were Jacob Hepper and Buddy Swanson with a total of 6 fish and a final weight of 7.92 lbs. There were 31 fish donated from the tournament and 176 filets were given away to 51 residents in the area. By: Shawna Madison Shawna Madison has fond memories of her years at MPHS Shawna Madison is a senior at MPHS. Her favorite class this year is Publications because she gets to help create the yearbook. My favorite memory of high school was white washing with my class, says Shawna. If she could pass on one thing to the underclassmen it would be that they need to do what they have to do to succeed late on in life because it will pay off. Her biggest role model is her mom. Her mom has pushed her to work hard and do the best that she can. She has also taught Shawna that hard work pays off. Shawna plans on attending BHSU for her first four years and major in pre- dentistry. She then will go to school out of state for another four years to pursue predentistry. (There is a February 3, 2014 deadline) Students Ages 13-19: Anyone interested in attending a Teen Leadership Conference, June 2-6, at SDSU 4-HERs and non 4-Hers, please contact your local Youth program Advisor for an application or call (605) Seniors: SD Amateur Softball has a scholarship for graduating senior athletes who have participated in SDASA program for at least three years. Applications are available in the school counselor s office. This scholarship is for $500. Senior Athletes: Coaches Against Cancer Scholarship is for a senior athlete who has had some type of medical issue or a family member who has had some type of medical isse that has affected them during their high school career. Applications are available in the school counselor s office. (There is a February 10 th deadline) Seniors: Curtis Marvin Hohn Scholarship is available for the seniors attending a technical school or university in South Dakota. This is for $1000 and (Deadline is March 15, 2014). Applications are available in the school counselor s office. H S Students taking the ACT on February 8 th are invited to attend an ACT Crash Course to study for the ACT on January 30 th from 7:00-8:30 pm in Mr. Hettick s room. Sign up in the counselor s office- first twenty and there will be PIZZA!!! H S seniors wishing to earn college credit this summer through Indian University of North America may inquire in the school counselor s. Applications are due (February 1, 2014) SENIORS: CAM WAL Electric has a $1000 scholarship for a senior attending a two year technical or four year college. The application may be found in the counselor s office with a (Deadline February 6, 2014). Seniors must be members of CAM WAL Electric. Junior Girls: South Dakota Girls State for Journalism is available for interested junior girls. Application is available in school counselor s office and the (Deadline is February 1, 2014). By Lexi Laundreaux STUDENT PROFILE: ALEXA SCHAEFBAUER Alexa Schaefbauer is the daughter of Kevin and Lisa Schaefbauer. She is 15 years old. She is currently attending her sophomore year at Mobridge-Pollock High School. She has two brothers named Tyler and Cody; they have both gone to school here at Mobridge-Pollock High School. Alexa is currently playing basketball but she plays volleyball and is participating in track. She said, her favorite high school memory so far was making it to state in track and going to all of her brother s things that involved state. Alexa stated that, she doesn t know what to do in the near future because she lives in the moment as everything happens. On her spare time she loves watching Netflix and hanging out with her friends. 3 Page 3 Wrestlers Travel all the way to Milbank! On Tuesday, January 7 th, the Mobridge Pollock Tiger Wrestling team traveled a whole 3 and half hours to Milbank. They started at 4 against Sioux Valley. They won that dual The second team they wrestled was Groton and they Tigers beat them, And finally they ended the day losing to Milbank, Brett Lang, Chase Shoenhard, and Dalton Martian where the GBB VS. GROTON The Mobridge-Pollock Lady Tigers traveled to Groton on January 11 th. The game finished with a score of Mobridge- Pollock 37, Groton 49. Leading points with the Lady Tigers was Kaitlin Goodshield with 14 points. Following Kaitlin was Chelsy Hoffman with 10 points, Aundrea Kramer with 6 points, Naomi Stroeder with 4 points, Re- Anna Kohlus with 2 points and Alexa Schaefbauer with one point. Leading the Lady Tigers had a total of 7 rebounds in which Aundrea Kramer led these rebounds with 3 and also leading in steals was Chelsy Hoffman. In the 1 st quarter the final score was Mobridge-Pollock 8, Groton nd quarter final score Mobridge-Pollock 16, Groton rd quarter final score Mobridge-Pollock 19, Groton 40. The Lady Tigers had a total of 15 fouls with no one fouling out. Tiffany Stickney BBB VS. GROTON The Mobridge-Pollock High School boys basketball team headed to Groton on Saturday, January 12, 2014 for a disappointing loss against the Groton Tigers with a score of The Mobridge Tigers had 3 high scorers, Mason Keller 13 points, Preston Fredrick 11 points, and Mitchel Heumiller 8 points. Mobridge ended the game with 17 fouls. Mobridge had 29 rebounds with Wientjes leading the team with 11 rebounds. The MP Tigers had 6 assists with Fredrick leading with 3. At the end of the game the MP boys had 13 turnovers overall. BY: Keshia Milliken GBB VS. MILLER Miller traveled to Mobridge on Friday January 10 th, and the Lady Tigers were defeated 48 to 28. Kaitlin Goodshield led the Tigers in 3-pointers with 2 of them. Chelsy Hoffman had 8 of the 25 rebounds and Aundrea Kramer had 5. Mobridge-Pollock had 4 assists. There were 6 blocks for the Tigers and Chelsy Hoffman had the most with 3. Naomi Stroeder had 2 of the 6 blocks for Mobridge-Pollock. This game made the girls record (0-8) for this season. SULLY BUTTES Page 4 The Sully Butte Chargers entered the lady Tiger den January 7 th, and ran roughshod over the tigers The number one class B team dominated from the very tip-off, leading 26-6 in the first quarter, 50-8 at half time and continued to pour it on in the second half, leading after three quarters before ending it with the final of The outmatched lady Tigers were led by Taylor Brekke, who scored 7 points followed by Chelsy Hoffman, who had 6 points. Aundrea Kramer led in rebounds for the tigers with three. The JV girls also fell to the Chargers By Joe Avalos MSBB GOES TO LINTON-8TH GRADE WINS!! The middle school boys basketball players traveled to Linton, ND on January 16. The 7 th grade team lost and the 8 th grade won For the 7 th grade Jaden Hitland scored 10 points and for the 8 th grade Brady Greger and Dylan Cerney got 9 points. By: Tyler Larsen BBB BEAT CROW CREEK!!! The Mobridge boy s basketball team beat the Crow Creek Chieftains on Friday the 17 th. Jason Hill had a game high in points and rebounds with 20 points, 19 rebounds, and 4 blocked shots. Mitchell Heumiller contributed a dozen points and Mason Keller with 11 points to lead their way to victory. Mobridge controlled the glass by out rebounding Crow Creek 41 to 19. 5 GBB VS. CROW CREEK The lady Tigers extend their losing streak to 9 on Friday January 17, 2013 against the Crow Creek in the high school gym. Chieftans. Chelsy Hoffman was the leading scorer for the lady tigers with 11 points. Mobridge kept the turnovers low with only 10 compared to the chieftans 20. The lady tigers had a game high in blocks BBB VS. MILLER (7) and steals (14). The final score was By Jordyn Mertz The Mobridge-Pollock wrestling team went to Faulkton for the Faulkton Quad on Thursday January 16, Mobridge-Pollock wrestled against Ipswich-Leola, Miller- Highmore-Harold, and Faulkton. First they wrestled Miller-Highmore-Harold, they beat them Jaden Shepherd pinned Colton Weeldreyer and Stone Jensen pinned Nick Brandner. Then they wrestled Faulkton, they beat them Isaac Olson pinned Blade Forman, Jaden Madison pinned Barry Johnson, Bray Harrison defeated Riley Rinehart 5-2, and David Jensen pinned Jack Jones. Last they wrestled Faulkton, they beat them Isaac Olson pinned Andrew Edgar, Nathan Bauer defeated Joe Holsing 13-9, Stone Jensen defeated Adam Anderson 12-5, Joseph Avalos pinned Matt Holsing and Chase Schoenhard pinned Alec Lee. By Cayla Hintz The Mobridge-Pollock Tigers played the Miller Rustlers on January 10th in Mobridge. The Mobridge-Pollock Boys had a close game until the end when Miller defeated them. Though they outscored the Rustlers in the fourth quarter, they lost 43 to 37. Mobridge s leading scorers Mitch Heumiller and Reece Wientjes fouled out, forcing Mobridge to foul.
