7 GAME REPORTS Game #105: Shield Division- Southern Tigers Girls 48 defeated Maitland Mustangs Girls 42 Maitland were deft at moving the ball up the floor and their passing enabled them to get quality looks in the first half as they took it up to the Tigers. The Tigers did not back down though and their ability to draw fouls eventually saw them gain a lead and when the Mustangs went through a lean period late in the third quarter and early in the fourth, there was no coming back. Game #106: Shield Division- Northern Tasmania Girls 31 defeated by Darwin Cyclones Girls 75 Both teams went into this South v North contest searching for their first win, and it was Darwin Cyclones who took the ascendancy to lead 19-8 at quarter-time. Darwin s Ieasha Friel (eight points) was dynamic with the ball in her hands, Tiayana Sing (20) used her length and athleticism to pick off passes and convert scoring chances, and Shavayah Lee chipped in with 14. Injuries left Northern Tasmania with a depleted roster which made it difficult to keep in touch with the quicker Cyclones, who led at the half and after three. Lauren Wise (16) never stopped trying for the Tigers. Game #107: Shield Division- North West Tasmania Girls 106 defeated NT South Suns Girls 21 North West put on a clinical display defensively and were able to pull away quickly, never really letting NT South into the game. Hitting the century was an excellent effort with four players hitting double-figures while Kaidence Fishook impressed for the Suns. Game #108: Shield Division- Illawarra Hawks Girls 41 defeated by Southern District Spartans Girls 44 A great contest that went down to the wire was finally won by Southern District courtesy of a couple of late stops and big time shots that will have teams nervous if they play them down the track. Georgia Genner kept Illawarra in the match with her free-throw shooting but four threepointers from Georgia Lane was integral to the win for the Spartans. Game #109: Shield Division- North Tasmania Boys 45 defeated by Townsville Heat Boys 70 Townsville got the jump on Northern Tasmania early, getting out to a 10-point lead in the first quarter. The Tigers regained some composure to finally get consecutive scores, thanks to Joshua Garwood-Besanvalle (15 points). The Heat turned it on, full-court pressing, to disrupt the Tigers rhythm. Leading by 11 at the main break, Townsville began the second half as they did the first, with full-court pressure and quick points off turnovers to quickly push their lead past 20. Charlton Bird (13), Cooper Gibson (13), Harrison Pennisi (13) and Keenan Whitwam (12) all reached double figures for the Heat. Game #110: Shield Division- Geraldton Bucaneers Boys 32 defeated by South Adelaide Panthers Boys 67 The Bucaneers never gave in the fight during this contest but an obvious height advantage always had the Panthers in the box seat. Luke Delbridge led the way with 15 points, pacing three players in double-figures while eight South Adelaide boys overall hit the scoreboard. Game #111: Shield Division- Southern District Spartans Boys 74 defeated NT South Suns Boys 45 Southern District took a little while to settle into their rhythm against NT South and had to work for their quarter-time lead. The offence flowed more freely in the second period and by half-time the Spartans led Crowd-pleasing Suns guard James Bruce demonstrated his ball-handling skills and defensive anticipation, and he combined well on offence with bigs Deijahnelle Vaha (29 points) and Khori Mills- Richardson (eight). 8 Game #112: Shield Division- North West Tasmania Boys 60 defeated Darwin Cyclones Boys 53 Darwin picked their defensive battles well in the first term, minimising North West s opportunities and looking the goods early. However, the Tassie boys were able to bounce back and turn the game on its head as they got their running game going and in a frustrating finish for the Cyclones, North West ran over the top. Game #113: Championship Division- Bendigo Braves Girls 65 defeated Kalamunda Eastern Suns 44 Both clubs were able to draw fouls throughout the game and get some easy points from the charity stripe but combined with those looks, Ella Thornton-Elliott was deadly from beyond the arc for Kalamunda, hitting four three s. Bendigo were well balanced though and secured the win thanks to ten players scoring. Game #114: Championship Division- Nunawading Spectres Girls 37 defeated by Melbourne Tigers Girls 43 Nunawading began this Victorian derby with full-court trapping pressure, creating opportunities off turnovers. Melbourne regained their composure, applying their own pressure, but the Spectres led 12-6 after a defence-oriented first quarter. Points were just as hard to come by in the second term. Tylah Hooper (17 points) did all of Melbourne s second-quarter scoring and the Spectres led at the half. Both teams maintained full-court pressure in the third but Nunawading s Saskia Hupertz (15) scored points out of transition. Melbourne cut the deficit to after three quarters as Scarlett Wihongi (13) and Trinity Skenderis (12) found the target. Melbourne took their first lead of the game with less than two minutes left, executing their half-court offence when it mattered, and a massive three by Skenderis with 35 seconds left stretched their advantage to six in a thriller. Game #115: Championship Division- Sturt Sabres Girls 68 defeated Gold Coast Waves Girls 61 Sturt s guards led the way in this one with Taylah Stallard recording a game-high 28 points. She helped answer three Gold Coast players that reached double-figures with Shorna Preston and Lilly Rotunno starring but the quick pace of the game suited the Sabres in a strong victory. Game #116: Championship Division- Townsville Flames Girls 47 defeated Canberra Capitals Girls 42 Townsville and Canberra left nothing in the tank as they chased a Championship quarter-final berth. The Flames took a lead into the first break and stretched that to at half-time. Canberra refused to go away and were still in contention trailing after three quarters, and cut that to on Amy Cooper s basket early in the fourth. Ainslie Minogue s three-pointer pushed Townsville s lead back out to to ease the pressure. Guard Abby Solway (20 points) kept the Capitals in the contest but the Flames, led by Lucie Dixon (14 points) and Chailee Ward (13), held firm to win and qualify for the final eight. Game #117: Championship Division- Hills Hornets Boys 73 defeated Diamond Valley Eagles Boys 58 The Hornets set the tone for the game in this clash, looking to get out and run with every opportunity but Diamond Valley were able to match them, setting up an entertaining contest. Coming out of the main break, the Eagles finally began to tire and that opened the door for Hills who were able to take their chances and secure the win. Game #118: Championship Division- Sturt Sabres Boys 72 defeated Canberra Gunners Boys 64 Using size and athleticism to counter Canberra s execution at both ends, Sturt led after a see-sawing first quarter. There were similar themes of full-court pressure and tough contested shots in the second term as Sturt, through Keanu Rasmussen and a Curtis Scott three in the final seconds, increased their advantage to at the main break. Canberra s Charles Potter (21) kept the Gunners in the game during a roller-coaster ride in the second half. Sturt s Aimable Rukundo Ciza Rutayisire (20) dominated on the boards and around the hoop, and he was ably supported by Rasmussen (20) and Hans Clieves (16), but Canberra would not go away. It came down to defence in the last minutes, and two Sturt steals finally sealed the deal. GAME REPORTS CONTINUE ON NEXT PAGE...

9 Game #119: Championship Division- Horsham Hornets Boys 47 defeated by Norths Bears Boys 50 A tight game throughout looked to finally be Horsham s with only a couple of minutes to go as they penetrated and made the most of their opportunities close to the rim. Harry Anderson led the charge back for the Bears though, scoring three points in the final 40 seconds while Ratchaphak Prekpanarut was also integral in an amazing comeback victory by Norths. Game #120: Championship Division- Hawthorn Magic Boys 70 defeated by North Adelaide Rockets Boys 74 This boiled down to the scoring prowess and physical presence of North Adelaide s Fiston Ipassou against Hawthorn s team-oriented tactics. Ipassou scored a game-high 41 for the Rockets. The Magic used a balanced offence to create chances for Denzel Timmons (18), Braden Andrews (17), Cooper Grainger (12), Oliver Dempsey (11) and Luca Anderson (10). The Rockets led after the first quarter and at the half but were never comfortable. Ipassou continued to dominate the paint, and the air above it, at both ends of the court but the Magic refused to go away and pulled within at the final break. A hand injury forced Ipassou to the bench for a short break late in the fourth, with North Adelaide leading 67-60, but a triple by Riley Real (13) and Ipassou s return safely steered the Rockets into the quarter-finals. Game #121: Shield Division- Southern Tigers Girls 57 defeated Darwin Cyclones Girls 42 The Tigers jumped out to an early as Darwin struggled to keep pace but once the game slowed down later in the first half, the Cyclones were able to match it with their opponents. With more possession and rebound opportunities, Darwin clawed their way back into the game but the Tigers impressive shooting percentage meant their lead was too much to overcome. Game #122: Shield Division- Manly Sea Eagles Girls 43 defeated Willetton Tigers Girls 41 Manly led for most of this Shield quarter-final but had to see off a late Willetton Tigers surge before securing a victory in the final seconds. The Sea Eagles led at half-time and after three quarters, setting up a tight final period. Manly s Millie Prior (13 points) and Sari Mowbray (four) helped establish a lead but Willetton s Shenae Hartree and Aisha Forrest hit back-to-back three-pointers to get the West Australians within two. The Tigers had a late chance to force overtime, or even snatch victory, but could not connect with their last desperate attempts. Game #123: Shield Division- Southern District Spartans Girls 65 defeated Geraldton Bucaneers Girls 33 Geraldton were held scoreless for the start of the game and that edge was indicative of the Spartans game as they kept their foot on the pedal for most of the evening. Hannah Trusso (20 points) did her best to claw the Bucaneers back but she could not slow down the likes of Danielle Bayes and Georgia Lane. Game #124: Shield Division- Illawarra Hawks Girls 47 defeated North West Tasmania Girls 45 North West Tasmania s Zoe Crawford was her team s only scorer in the first quarter as Illawarra built a 13-7 lead. The second period was very similar to the first, with end to end transition the order of the day. Crawford, who finished with 25, had 16 points by half-time as Illawarra led Zoe Roulston (14) had eight first-half points for the Hawks, who took advantage of Crawford s third-quarter foul trouble to stretch their lead to six heading into the fourth. Chelsey Healey (12) bolstered the Devils tally but Illawarra, led by Georgia Genner (10), looked comfortable with a six-point lead with two minutes left. The Devils pressed, forced turnovers, cut the deficit to two and had their chances to get even closer in an exciting final minute but the Hawks hung on to win. Game #125: Shield Division- Townsville Heat Boys 59 defeated South Adelaide Panthers Boys 49 Townsville took control of this game from the opening tip but following a time-out, the Panthers looked to settle and pull themselves back into the contest. The fast pace started to catch up with them by the third term though as the Heat were able to grind out a few defensive stops to secure a hard-fought win. GAME REPORTS CONTINUE ON NEXT PAGE...

10 Game #126: Shield Division- Coffs Harbour Suns Boys 56 defeated Joondalup Wolves 46 Connor Watt s buzzer-beating three-pointer gave Coffs Harbour a lead at quarter-time of their Shield quarter-final against Joondalup. By half-time the Suns led and threatened to run away with it as the West Australians struggled to make their shots or create stops. Joondalup, led by Gabriel Chadinha (12 points), Luca O Brien (11) and Connor Smith (10), closed the gap to late in the third but Lachlan Mihai (20) steadied the Coffs ship by scoring the last five points of the period, giving the Suns a edge heading into the fourth. It was a similar story in the final few minutes. The Wolves had their chances but could not finish around the basket or at the free-throw line, and the Suns closed it out. Game #127: Shield Division- Newcastle Hunters Boys 67 defeated Cairns Marlins Boys 54 Newcastle were intent on pushing the ball up the floor but most impressively, they were just as quick in defensive transition as when their shots did not fall, they were able to quickly get another stop and head back down the court. Cairns were never truly out of the contest on the scoreboard but could not gain the ascendancy. Game #128: Shield Division- Southern District Spartans Boys 55 defeated North West Tasmania Boys 37 Both teams were able to answer each other in the paint early on but once the Spartans found their long-range shooting, North West quickly found themselves trailing. Kobe McDowell-White top-scored for Southern Districts with 16 points and four three-pointers, bettering the efforts of Tarkyn Whitehouse (15 points). Game #129: Championship Division- Bendigo Braves Girls 52 defeated Melbourne Tigers Girls 43 Bendigo set their trapping defence from the outset and challenged the Melbourne guards. After some early nerves, the Tigers composed themselves and began to execute. Bendigo took advantage of early turnovers, ran the floor, and led 12-7 at quarter-time. The second term was more of an arm-wrestle as Bendigo focused on half-court defence. The Braves made late transition baskets to lead at the half, and Bendigo s Piper Dunlop le d all scorers with 10. Melbourne struggled to contain Bendigo s transition in the third term and the Braves took a 12-point lead into the final break. Dunlop (19) proved difficult to contain, Ellie Vlaeminck (11) and Meg McCarthy (10) supported her at the offensive end. Tylah Hooper (12) often penetrated Bendigo s defence to lead Melbourne s scorers, and Scarlett Wihongi (11) finished well, but the Braves saw off Melbourne s last challenge to win. Game #130: Championship Division- Hornsby Spiders Girls 52 defeated Townsville Flames Girls 51 Townsville started hot in this entertaining contest, leading by five points in the opening quarter before Hornsby were able to trim that margin to three in the second term. The Spiders continually chipped away at the lead, tying the game in the final 20 seconds before showing their nerves of steel from the free-throw line with Isabelle Long the heroine. Shaylee Browning had 17 points for the Flames. Game #131: Championship Division- Sturt Sabres Girls 48 defeated Diamond Valley Eagles Girls 47 Diamond Valley and Sturt went at it with all the intensity and passion you would expect in a Championship quarter-final, fighting hard for every loose ball and on every possession. The Eagles led 12-6 after a tense first quarter then stretched that to before a three-pointer and a free throw by Sturt s Caitlin Dyer cut that to at the half. Sturt s Meg Butcher dragged the Sabres back into the game in the third term, and her free throw tied the scores before the Eagles steadied to lead at the last break. Butcher (16) and Lily Zbierski (eight) made tough shots inside to cut the deficit to in the final minute but Teah Reichert (20) converted a three-point play to give the Eagles a five-point lead and they hung on in the frantic final seconds to win and progress to the semi-finals. Game #132: Championship Division- Knox Raiders Girls 76 defeated South Adelaide Panthers Girls 51 The Raiders showed great composure throughout this game, never wavering from their defensive structures in a consistent performance to carry them into the Semi-Finals. They dominated the glass and had three players score in double-figures to best the performance of Lauren Hoffmann (20 points). Game #133: Championship Division- Sydney Comets Boys 59 defeated Willetton Tigers Boys 50 A very impressive performance was well rewarded for the Comets as they used their advantage in the paint to answer Willetton s three-point shooting. Both teams demonstrated their fitness, running out a physical and fast-paced game right until the final siren with Angus Ole s 20 point leading the way for Sydney. Jett Ng once again shone through for the Tigers with 25. GAME REPORTS CONTINUE ON NEXT PAGE...

11 Game #134: Championship Division- Hills Hornets Boys 72 defeated Sturt Sabres Boys 69 The strategies were obvious from the outset. Hills used their speed and Sturt relied on their size, and scores were tied at quarter-time. The Hornets struggled to contain Sabres bigs Aimable Rukundo Ciza Rutayisire (18 points) and Hans Clieves (29), but responded with transition baskets, and Eion Fitzgerald (34) led all scorers with 13 in the first quarter. Sturt s Keanu Rasmussen picked up his fourth foul before half-time but the Sabres still established a lead. Hills started the third quarter trying to trap but Sturt s size enabled them to pass through it, and the Sabres extended their advantage to 11, then to 16 after a technical foul on the Hills coach. The Hornets persisted with their transition game and by three-quarter time were back within five, trailing Hills began the last quarter with full-court denial pressure, cutting Sturt s lead to one with five minutes to play. Joshua Gillon (27) made a massive and one play with 58 seconds for Hills to put the Sydney-siders up by three and end the Sabres title defence. Game #135: Championship Division- North Adelaide Rockets Boys 68 defeated Norths Bears Boys 54 Starting the game with four three-pointers was an ominous sign and the Rockets put their opponents to the sword with a clinical offensive display. Fiston Ipassou again led the way with 24 points but Darcy McDonald also starred, recording 18 points to answer the best efforts of William Boys and Bailey Earle who combined for 24 points. Game #136: Championship Division- Knox Raiders Boys 58 defeated Norwood Flames Boys 48 Both teams played with passion in front of their noisy supporters and the Raiders, not unexpectedly, led at quarter-time. Scoring was not as easy in the second period for either side as the defensive intensity levels were lifted. The Flames made Knox scoring machine Ivan Rajher (17 points) work hard on offence, and his Raiders team-mates Harry Johnson (14) and Ryan Fairchild (10) picked up the slack. Flames big man Matthew Thomson (21) was a force in the paint, and guard Oskar De Luca worked like a terrier on defence, sparking a third-quarter rally before the Raiders steadied to lead at the last break. Norwood cut the deficit to single figures in the final minutes but could not convert enough chances to get any closer. DAY 3 PHOTOS
