Friday, Feb. 1 vs. Michigan State, 6:05 p.m. CST Saturday, Feb. 2 vs. Michigan State, 3:05 p.m. CST The Games Nebraska-Omaha travels to East Lansing, Michigan to take on defending national champions, No. 5 Michigan State in a twogame CCHA series. Saturday afternoon the game will be televised on FSN Detroit Media Coverage The games will be broadcast on KKAR, 1290 AM, with the pre-game show beginning 30 minutes before face-off. Greg Harrington will call the action, with Terry Leahy providing color commentary. The Records UNO now stands at overall and in the CCHA, the Spartans are overall this season and are third in conference with a record of The Coaches Nebraska-Omaha s Mike Kemp is in his 11th season as the Maverick head coach. Kemp is a 1975 graduate of Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minn. The Duluth, Minn., native is at UNO overall and has a mark in the CCHA. Rick Comley is in his sixth season with MSU and has an overall record of and is against UNO. The Series MSU leads the series and holds a advantage in East Lansing. Tomas Klempa leads the team in career scoring against the Spartans with nine points (1-8--9). Last Meeting Nebraska-Omaha skated against Michigan State in the second round of the CCHA playoffs last season in East Lansing. The Spartans swept the Mavs 4-2 and 4-1. Last Week The players enjoyed a weekend off after their annual trip to Fairbanks, Alaska. The Mavs swept the Nanooks for the secondstraight season in Fairbanks. Friday night Bryan Marshall recorded two goals and Bill Bagron scored the game-winning goal to down the Nanooks 3-1. Saturday night Brandon Scero earned his 100th and 101st career points and Juha Uotila scored the game winner 29 seconds into overtime. Coming up Nebraska-Omaha will return home to the Qwest Center Omaha Feb. 8-9 to host clustermate Ohio State, the games start at 7:05 p.m. CST. MSU remained unbeaten in eight games (5-0-3) since Jan. 1, and its CCHA unbeaten streak has reached 12 games (9-0-3) after earning three points in a home-and-home against top-ranked Michigan last weekend. MSU s eight-game unbeaten streak is the longest in the country. JR G Jeff Lerg s shutout streak was snapped at 190:54 when he allowed the second-period power play tally on Saturday to the Wolverines. In his career, Lerg has two shutouts against Michigan and has twice posted a shutout in a 1-0 victory, the first was in the 2006 NCAA East Regional against New Hampshire. January was the Spartans first unbeaten regular-season month since February of 2006 (6-0-1). MSU was also unbeaten in April 2007 (2-0). With Jan. 19th s 4-0 win at Ohio State and Friday s 1-0 victory at Yost, MSU recorded consecutive shutouts for the first time since Feb , (vs. Nebraska-Omaha (3-0, 5-0). Saturday s crowd of 7,072 was the sixth largest in Munn Arena history. Maverick Notes... Senior forward Brandon Scero became only the eighth UNO player to record 100 points Jan. 19, Senior forward Bryan Marshall leads the conference in pp points with a record and currently leads the nation with 27 assists. UNO is third in the nation on the power play with 32 goals in 130 man advantages for a 24.6 %. The top-senior line for UNO consists of three of the ten all-time scoring leaders for the Mavericks. Marshall is third with 141 points, Scero is eighth with 99 and Lawrence is tenth with 83. Senior forward Mick Lawrence leads the team with 15 goals and 11 power-play goals holding a new record for pp goals in a single season. Lawrence s 11 pp goals is tied for first in the conference and the nation with Kevin Porter. Dan Charleston leads the team with 71 shots, following close behind are forwards Scero and Lawrence with 68. Scero is the only UNO player to record more than one game-winning goal this season. Both game winners were scored during the sweep of Western Michigan (1/5-6). Scero leads the team in penalty minutes with 46.
