ANGLES 1. Miami leads the series with, 2-0. The RedHawks have outscored UNO by a 12-4 margin in the two previous meetings this season. 2. RedHawk freshmen have accounted for 27.8 percent of Miami s offense this season. 3. Miami is a perfect 13-0 in games in which the RedHawks score first. 4. MU continues to lead the country in scoring margin with a ring, scoring 4.23 goals per game while giving up only 1.64 goals per game. 5. Freshman forward Carter Camper extended his point streak to six games last weekend with an assist on Brian Kaufman s first period goal Surday night. Camper has three goals, six assists and nine points during the streak. QUOTING RICO BLASI: (On how his team rebounded from Friday night s loss) It s just been a mentality of ours to finish strong and play 60 minutes give credit to the guys and their leadership. 2 NEBRASKA-OMAHA VS. MIAMI SERIES NOTES REVIEWING THE BOWLING GREEN SERIES: Miami split the weekend series with Bowling Green, losing last Friday night s contest by a 4-2 score, but btling back Surday with a 5-2 victory over the Falcons. Freshman forward TOMMY WIN- GELS (F, Wilmette, IL) scored twice on the weekend, giving him 11 goals for the year. Junior forward BILL LOUPEE (F, Bloomfield, MI) netted his second-career game-winning goal on Surday night, earning him first-star honors. Freshman forward CARTER CAMPER (F, Rocky River, OH) extended his point streak to six games with assists in each game. Camper leads the CCHA in scoring by a rookie. Junior goaltender JEFF ZATKOFF (G, Chesterfield, MI) started in the Miami goal crease both nights, being dealt only his third loss of the season Friday, but rebounding Surday, turning away 26-of-28 shots for the victory. MIAMI FALLS TO NO. 2 IN USCHO/CSTV, NO. 3 IN USA TODAY/USA HOCKEY MAGAZINE MEN S COLLEGE HOCKEY POLLS: After splitting the weekend series with No. 24 Bowling Green, Miami found itself sitting behind Michigan in the USCHO/CSTV Men s Hockey Poll and dropping to No. 3 in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Men s Hockey Polls. Miami received 923 points and six firstplace votes in the USCHO/CSTV Poll, and 441 points with no first-place votes in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Poll. LEADING THE WAY: The RedHawks lead the nion in scoring margin with a differential in goals-for to goals-against. The RedHawks are scoring an average of 4.23 goals per game, while giving up only 1.64 goals. FIRST TIME IN A LONG TIME: With the RedHawks loss to Bowling Green last Friday night, Miami ended its nine-game winning streak in games played away from Steve Cady Arena. The road loss was the team s first in 321 days, with the last coming February 24, 2007; a 4-1 defe to Northern Michigan. MAN DOWN!: Miami is second in the nion in penalty kill percentage, fending off 91.2 percent (114-of-125) of the power-play opportunities opponents have had. By being short-handed 125 times, the RedHawks have been in a penaltykilling situion the most of any team in the country. Of the nine power-play goals MU has given up, two have come while the team was down two men. Miami has also scored six short-handed goals, tying them with three other teams for second in the nion. PASSING PERSONAL BESTS: Only 22 games into the season, a number have players have already achieved or passed their career highs for a full season. 2 SCOUTING NEBRASKA-OMAHA: Miami travels west to Omaha, Nebraska, this weekend to face off against the Mavericks of, led by Head Coach Mike Kemp. comes into the series fresh off its weekend sweep of conference foe, Western Michigan. The Mavericks downed the Broncos, 6-3, Surday night and completed the sweep in front of a nional audience, winning Sunday afternoon by a 4-2 mark, with the game being broadcast on ESPNU. Leading the Mavericks offense is senior forward Bryan Marshall. He is tied with Michigan s Kevin Porter for the conference lead in points with 31. Marshall leads the nion in assists, helping on 23 of his team s goals. Senior forward Mick Lawrence leads the team in goals, tallying 13 scores on the season, nine of which have come on the power-play. Those nine man-advantage markers place him second in the CCHA in power-play goals. Freshmen Joey Martin and Alain Goulet have been nice additions to the Mavericks line up, putting up four goals and six assists each. Goulet finds himself tied for fifth in the league in goals by a defenseman. Junior netminder Jerad Kaufmann has seen the majority of the goaltending action for, starting 13 of the team s 22 games. Both Kaufmann and sophomore Jeremie Dupont started games when the team traveled to Steve Cady Arena back in October. Kaufmann ranks ninth amongst CCHA goaltenders in goals-against average (2.76), and is tied for 13th in save percentage (.887). Senior captain RYAN JONES (F, Chham, ONT) and freshman forward CARTER CAMPER led all scorers with four points (three goals, one assist, each) in the October meeting. Miami leads the all-time series , but the series is tied four games apiece in Nebraska. Netminders CHARLIE EFFINGER (G, Belleville, IL) and JEFF ZATKOFF each manned the Miami pipes during the series, with both earning victories. Effinger started the first game of the weekend, stopping 33-of-35 shots he saw in the RedHawks 7-2 win. Zkoff turned aside 21 of the 23 shots he faced, earning the 5-2 victory for MU. FANTASTIC FINSIHERS: Miami s best period this season has been the third; scoring 41 times, the most goals by any CCHA team in any period. The RedHawks have also clamped down the defense in the third, giving up only five scores in the last 20 minutes. The Red and White have not given up a third period goal since December 8 versus Alaska. The lowest prior to this season was during the season, when the team allowed 39 through this point of the year. TOUGH GUYS: The RedHawks are second in the country in penalty minutes, averaging 19 penalty minutes per game. Miami has been penalized for a total of 419 minutes this season, the most by any team in the nion. HIGH SCORING CONFERENCE: Of the nion s Top-10 goal scorers, six come from CCHA schools. Miamians included on the list are senior captain RYAN JONES (T-2nd; 17) and junior forward JUSTIN MERCIER (F, Erie, PA)(T-4th; 16). IT DOESN T GET ANY BETTER THAN THIS: With its record through 22 games, Coach Enrico Blasi s squad is off to the best start in school history. The previous best was in , when the team started out to a record. The squad wound up with a mark of MU s record for single-season victories is 27, posted by both the and teams. POWER PLAY RECHARGED: After going four straight games without a goal with the man-advantage, the RedHawks have scored power-play goals in each of their last three games. Miami leads the nion in power-play goals scored with 27 to its credit. THE OFFENSE SHOOTING THE LIGHTS OUT: Miami has outshot its opponents this season, averaging 31 shots per game. The 31-shot average is second only to Michigan Ste (31.2) for the most by any team in the CCHA. Leading the RedHawks in shots is senior captain RYAN JONES with 104 shots on goal.

3 UNO VS. MIAMI SERIES NOTES 12 REDHAWKS MAKE UP WEEKEND SCORING: Twelve players had a hand in the seven goals scored by Miami last weekend against Bowling Green. Scoring for the RedHawks were BRIAN KAUFMAN (F, Shoreview, MN), ALEXANDRE LA- COMBE (F, Orleans, ONT), BILL LOUPEE, JUSTIN MERCIER and TOMMY WING- ELS. Assisting on the goals were CARTER CAMPER, PAT CANNONE (F, Bayport, NY), Lacombe, Loupee, VINCENT LoVERDE, ALEC MARTINEZ (D, Rochester, MI), JAROD PALMER (F, Fridley, MN), KEVIN ROEDER (D, Glenview, IL) and JUSTIN VAIVE (F, Toronto, ONT). REDHAWKS IN THE CCHA RANKS: Seven Miami icers find themselves among the Top-25 for point scorers in the CCHA: 3rd 5th T-7th T-7th T-15th T-15th T-25th RYAN JONES (17 G - 9 A - 26 PTS) BRIAN KAUFMAN (8 G - 17 A - 25 PTS) JUSTIN MERCIER (16 G - 7 A - 23 PTS) CARTER CAMPER (7 G - 16 A - 23 PTS) PAT CANNONE (2 G - 17 A - 19 PTS) ALEC MARTINEZ (6 G - 13 A - 19 PTS) MITCH GANZAK (0 G - 17 A - 17 PTS) NICE NEWCOMERS: RedHawk freshmen forwards CARTER CAMPER, PAT CAN- NONE and TOMMY WINGELS are amongst the top-10 in CCHA rookie scoring. Camper (First) has 23 points, which leads the league in rookie scoring. Cannone (Third) leads the league in assists by a CCHA freshman with 17, and is tied with teammes MITCH GANZAK (D, Canton, MI) and BRIAN KAUFMAN for second in the conference in the cegory. Wingels (Eighth) is also making an impact for the RedHawks, as he is tied with St. Cloud Ste s Garrett Roe for the nion s lead in goal scoring by a freshman with 11. THE DEFENSE ON THE PLUS SIDE: Senior MITCH GANZAK leads the CCHA in plus/minus with a +20 ring. Also making the top-10 from Miami s defensive unit are juniors KEVIN ROEDER (D, Glenview, IL) (+18, second) and ALEC MARTINEZ (+16, tied-fourth) and freshman VINCENT LoVERDE (+14, tied-sixth). CLUTCH PERFOMERS: Through 22 games, the RedHawks have given up only five third-period goals, the least allowed by any team in the nion during the final stanza. The defense has been well tested, facing 155 shots in the third. REDHAWKS KEEP UP RECORD-BREAKING PACE: If the stout defense continues for Miami, this could be a record-breaking season. The RedHawks hold the school s all-time record for fewest goals-against, giving up 101 for the season, an average of 2.46 goals per game. Through its first 22 games, the team had yielded 60 goals, 24 more than the current team has allowed. POWER POINT: Junior defenseman ALEC MARTINEZ leads the country in points by a defenseman with 19. Martinez is also tied for the nion s lead in goals by a defenseman (6). Five of his goals have come on the power play, which is also tops amongst the nion s blue-liners. With 17 helpers to his name, senior defenseman MITCH GANZAK leads the nion in assists by a defensive player. THE GOALTENDERS Z UP TO THE TEST AGAIN: Junior netminder JEFF ZATKOFF manned the pipes for the RedHawks in both games versus Bowling Green, suffering only his third loss of the season in the first game of the series. Zkoff returned to his winning ways in the second game, turning aside 26 of the 28 shots Bowling Green put on Miami s net. With the victory, Zkoff boasts a 15-3 record for the campaign, placing him just behind Michigan s Billy Sauer (16-2) for the nion s best record. ZATKOFF STILL LEADING: Though he split the series this past weekend, JEFF ZATKOFF still leads all CCHA goaltenders in goals-against average (1.59). He is also ranked in the top-two, nionally, with his goals-against average. He is second overall in goals-against average, trailing only UMass Lowell s Carter Hutton in each cegory. CHANGE OF PACE: Last Friday marked the first time this season JEFF ZATKOFF gave up more than two goals in a single game. It was also the first time this year th both netminders saw action in one game.
