THE HOCKEY EAST: The Friars have an all-time record of in HOCKEY EAST league competition. Last year, the Friars had their best record in HOCKEY EAST play since the inaugural season when PC went and won the HOCKEY EAST Championship. FRIARS IN LOSSES: This season, the Friars have lost four games with three of the four losses coming to teams ranked in the top-15 in the national polls. In the season-opener against Michigan, the Wolverines were ranked third in the nation and defeated the Friars, 6-3. In the second contest against Nebraska-Omaha, the Mavericks were ranked 12th in the nation and defeated PC, 4-3, in overtime. At UMass Lowell last Friday, the River Hawks were ranked 13th and defeated Providence, 4-3. PROVIDENCE VERSUS NON-LEAGUE OPPONENTS: This season, the Friars are against non-league opponents, falling to third-ranked Michigan (6-3) and 12th-ranked Nebraska- Omaha (4-3 OT) at the Maverick Stampede and defeating Sacred Heart (8-1) last week. Last season, the Friars compiled a record against non-league opponents. PC posted a 1-1 record against ECAC teams, a 2-0 record against MAAC teams, a record against WCHA teams and a record against CCHA teams. PC earned non-conference victories over Ferris St., Holy Cross, Iona, Lake Superior St., Miami (Ohio) and Union. FRIARS SELECTED FIRST IN HOCKEY EAST PRESEASON COACHES' CHES' POLL: The Friars accumulated more points than any other team in the HOCKEY EAST PRESEASON Preseason Coaches' Poll and received the top preseason ranking 1. FREGOE LEADS FRIARS IN SCORING: Senior center Peter Fregoe (Massena, N.Y.) leads the Friars in scoring through five games this season with four goals, five assists and nine points. Fregoe began the season with a pair of assists in the Friars' season-opening loss to Michigan. He followed that up with a two-goal game against Nebraska-Omaha and then contributed a goal and two assists in the win over Sacred Heart. Against UMass Lowell, Fregoe pulled the Friars to within one goal in the third period on Friday, October 26 with his fourth goal of the season and against UMass Amherst, Fregoe tallied an assist on the power play. Last season as a junior, Fregoe totalled 16 goals, 21 assists and 37 points in 40 games.

Rask's lone goal was a shorthanded tally against Nebraska-Omaha in the season's second game. His first assist was in the Michigan game and on Friday, October 19 against Sacred Heart, Rask had three assists. Rask sat out the UMass Lowell game with a head injury, but played in Sunday's UMass Amherst contest and scored a first-period power-play goal. Last season, Rask earned All-America and First Team All-HOCKEY EAST honors for his 23 goals, 28 assists and 51 point season. SCHAEFER SOLID BETWEEN THE PIPES: Junior goaltender Nolan Schaefer (Yellow Grass, Sask.) has started all five contests in goal this season, posting a 3.78 goals against average, a.872 save SCHAEFER'S RECORD IN ALL GAMES percentage and a record. Year Home Road Neutral Schaefer has logged 301:46 minutes this season of a possible :05. Schaefer has played all but TOTALS :19, when he left the net against Michigan, UMass Lowell and Schaefer has won.810 percent of the home games UMass Amherst for an extra attacker. Last season, Schaefer he has played in, while in games away from Schneider Arena, Schaefer's winning percentage is just.310. earned All-American and Second Team All-HOCKEY EAST honors, posting a record, a 2.47 goals against average and a.915 save percentage. DISALVATORE LEADING FORMER COYOTES IN SCORING: Junior rightwing Jon DiSalvatore (South Windsor, Conn.) is the Friars' third leading scorer with three goals and three assists for six points. DiSalvatore is also the top scorer among the former New England Coyotes on the PC roster. Among the Coyotes in the stats, sophomore Peter Zingoni (Newtown, Conn.) is the second leading scorer with three assists for three points. Freshman center Chris Chaput (Pawtucket, R.I.) is third with two goals for two points and John Luszcz (Ludlow, Mass.) is fourth with one goal for one point. Freshmen defensemen Eric Lundberg (Vernon, Conn.) and Jeff Mason (Easthampton, Mass.) each have one assist on the season for one point. KELLY LEADS FRIAR BLUELINERS: Sophomore defenseman Regan Kelly (Imperial, Sask.), a HOCKEY EAST All-Rookie Team Selection as a freshman, is leading the blueline corps this season. Kelly has totalled four assists this season through five games after his freshman year which saw him total four goals and 21 assists for 25 points. FRIARS IN THE NATIONAL RANKINGS: The Providence College men s hockey team dropped out of the top-15 in both national polls this week and are unranked for the first time in the season. Before this week, PC had been ranked for 20-consecutive weeks in the USA TODAY/American Hockey Magizine and U.S. College Hockey Online polls. The Friars debuts at No. 14 in the USA TODAY/American Hockey Magizine poll on October 30, 1999 last season, in the fourth poll of the season and were ranked in 17-straight polls last season and then opened the season ranked in the first three polls of the year. In this week's USA TODAY/American Hockey Magizine poll, the Friars received nine votes and in the U.S. College Hockey Online poll, PC received four votes.

4 SCHNEIDER ARENA: Providence College's Schneider Arena is in its 29th season this year, and fans at Schneider have seen the PC Friars win 62 percent of their games at the "Coffin". Opened in 1973 with a 1-0 win over visiting Pennsylvania, the Friars have totalled a (0.615) overall record. FRIARS ALL-TIME RECORD IN SCHNEIDER ARENA Seasons During the season, the Friars posted their best home record since when PC posted a mark. Last year, the Friars' home record was This season, the Friars are at Schneider with October 19th's win over Sacred Heart and October 28th's loss to UMass Amherst. FRIARS DEFEATED BY UMASS AMHERST: The Friars were defeated by UMass Amherst, 4-3, on Sunday, October 28 at PC's Schneider Arena. The Friars fell behind early as the Minutemen took a 1-0 lead in the early goings of the first period. Junior captain Devin Rask (Parkside, Sask.) evened the score at 1-1 when he scored his second goal of the season on the power play for PC. Sophomore John Luszcz (Ludlow, Mass.) gave the Friars a 2-1 lead at the 12:34 mark when he knocked in a loss puck for his first goal of the season, but UMass tied the contest four minutes later. In the second period Jimmy Callahan gave the Minutemen a 3-2 lead with the only goal of the period. Senior Drew Omicioli (West Wariwck, R.I.) got the third period started with a short-handed tally just 1:08 into the period. Omicioli's goal tied the contest at 3-3 and four minutes later Brad Nizwantowski beat Nolan Schaefer with a quick wrist shot for the game-winning goal. Schaefer made 26 saves in the loss. FRIARS DEFEATED AT UMASS LOWELL: The PC men's hockey team was defeated at UMass Lowell on Friday, October 26, 4-3, in the HOCKEY EAST opener for the Friars. Senior Drew Omicioli (West Warwick, R.I.) evened the score at 1-1 in the first period after UML's opening goal. At the end of the first period PC trailed 3-1 and when Chris Gustafson scored for UML to start the second period, the Friars were down 4-1. With just 24 second remaining in the second period, PC junior Jon DiSalvatore (South Windsor, Conn.) scored on a breakaway to cut the Friars' deficit in half. In the third period, senior Peter Fregoe (Massena, N.Y.) scored at the 13:05 mark but the Friars could not even the score and force overtime, falling to the River Hawks. GOODWIN, CHAPUT TALL ALLY TWO O GOALS IN PC S HOME-OPENING WIN OVER SACRED HEART: Sophomore Jonathan Goodwin (Taunton, Mass.) and freshman Chris Chaput (Pawtucket, R.I.) each scored twice in Friday, October 19th s 8-1 Providence victory over Sacred Heart. Both pairs of goals were the first scores of the season for each player. On the evening, Goodwin totalled three points with an assist in addition to the goals. Chaput scored for the first time in his collegiate career. In addition to these two, the Friars also got goals from Peter Fregoe (Massena, N.Y.), Doug Wright (Kamsack, Sask.), Drew Omicioli (West Warwick, R.I.) and Mike Lucci (Parma, Ohio). FIVE FRIAR FRESHMEN JOIN SQUAD: Five newcomers join the Friar fold this season and should see considerable time this season. The rookies are: 6 0 goaltender David Cacciola (Burlington, Mass.), who played at St. Sebastian s for the last three seasons; 6 0 right wing David Carpentier (Faribault, Minn.), who played the last two seasons for the Cedar Rapids Roughriders; 5 10 center Chris Chaput (Pawtucket, R.I.), who spent three seasons at Mount St. Charles and played last season for the New England Junior Coyotes; 6 3 defenseman Eric Lundberg (Vernon, Conn.), who also played for the New England Coyotes; and 5 10 defenseman Jeff Mason (Easthampton, Mass.), who is PC s third freshmen who played last year with the New England Coyotes. WRAP-UP OF SEASON: The Providence College Hockey Team celebrated the 50th season of Friar hockey in style, competing in the HOCKEY EAST Championship game and reaching the NCAA Tournament. The Friars' overall record of was the best in Head Coach Paul Pooley's seven years at PC. The team tied for second place in the HOCKEY EAST standings after a league record, which is the highest a Providence team has ever finished. Captains Matt Libby and Jay Leach led a young PC team all the way to the HOCKEY EAST Championship game and to the NCAA's while All-American Devin Rask led the scoring effort with 23 goals and 28 assists for 51 points. His teammate and fellow All-American, Nolan Schaefer, anchored the defense in goal for the Friars. Schaefer posted a 2.47 goals against average, a save percentage and a record last season.

5 FRIARS ALL-TIME: In 51 seasons of Friar hockey, PC has posted a (.520) mark. In Paul Pooley's seven-plus seasons as the Friars' Head Coach the team has recorded a mark. HEAD COACH CH PAUL UL POOLEY: Is the 10th coach in the history of Providence College Hockey. Since 1994, Pooley has compiled an record and brought the Friars to three HOCKEY EAST Finals and two NCAA Tournament appearances. Last season, Pooley was named HOCKEY EAST Coach of the Year after leading the Friars to their highest finish ever in league play (tied for second) with a record. In , Pooley became the first head coach to bring a team to the HOCKEY EAST Championship in his inaugural season behind the bench. In he guided the Friars to their second HOCKEY EAST title and first since Pooley also led the team to its eighth appearance in the NCAA Tournament. He came to Providence after spending three years as an assistant coach at Lake Superior State University ( ). The Wolverines scored three times in the first and second periods and the Friars, even with junior Jon DiSalvatore's two goals, could not make up the difference. OCTOBER 13, 2001 AT OMAHA, NEB. (GAME 2) MAVERICK STAMPEDE #6 PROVIDENCE (0-2-0) #12 Nebraska-Omaha (1-1-0) Goals: PC (Peter Fregoe - 2, Devin Rask) UNO (Jeff Hoggan, Chris Claffey, Kyle O'Keefe, GREG ZANON) Saves: PC (Nolan Schaefer) UNO (Dan Ellis) PP: Providence (1-7); Nebraska-Omaha (1-8) PIM: Providence (9-18); Nebraska-Omaha (8-16) Attendance: 8,314 Game notes: Looking to salvage a split at the season-opening Maverick Stampede, the Friars found themselves behind early in the contest for the second straight game. PC's Peter Fregoe and Devin Rask tied the contest with goals in the second period Fregoe's on the power play and Rask's short handed. Fregoe then tallied for the second time to put PC up, 3-2, in the third period. With 4:32 remaining in the third period, UNO's Kyle O'Keefe tied the contest and then in overtime with 55 second left, Greg Zanon scored to win the game for the Mavericks. OCTOBER 19, 2001 AT PROVIDENCE, R.I. (GAME 3) Sacred Heart (0-1-0) #12 PROVIDENCE (1-2-0) Goals: GAME-BY-GAME -GAME RESULTS SHU (Konn Hawkes) PC (Peter Fregoe, DOUG WRIGHT, Jonathan Goodwin-2, Drew Omicioli, Michael Lucci, Chris Chaput-2) Saves: SHU (Eddy Ferhi) PC (Nolan Schaefer) PP: Sacred Heart (1-5); Providence (1-5) PIM: Sacred Heart (6-12); Providence (6-12) Attendance: 2,007 Game notes: In the first meeting between the two schools, Sacred Heart got out to a quick, 1-0, lead when Konn Hawkes scored on the power play just 1:51 into the contest. Peter Fregoe tied the contest for the Friars with a power-play goal of his own. Doug Wright put PC ahead for good when he scored what would be the game winner at 9:50 on a quick wrist shot. Jonathan Goodwin scored the first of his two goals on the evening at the 18:25 mark in the first period and Drew Omicioli roofed a shot with six seconds remaining in the period for a 4-1 Providence lead at the end of one period. Goodwin scored his second goal of the game in the second period and he assisted on Mike Lucci's first score of the season in the preiod as well. The third period belonged to PC freshman Chris Chaput, who scored twice for his first collegiate goals. OCTOBER 26, 2001 AT LOWELL, MASS. The River Hawks responded with two more goals to open a 3-1 lead at the end of one period. UML increased their lead to 4-1 in the second period before Jon DiSalvatore cut the lead in half with just 24 second remaining in period two. Peter Fregoe got the Friars to within just one goal at the 13:05 mark in the third period, but the Friars, even with a six-on-three power play advantage in the period, could not tie the contest in the third period to force overtime. Craig MacDonald converted a PC turnover into the first goal of the game at the 3:57 mark and four minutes later Devin Rask (Parkside, Sask.) scored on the power play when he tipped in a Drew Omicioli (West Warwick, R.I.) blast from the point. Sophomore John Luszcz (Ludlow, Mass.) knocked in a loss puck at 12:34 to put the Friars ahead, 2-1. UMass tied the contest at the 16:13 mark when Tim Turner converted a power-play opportunity. In the second period, UMA's Jimmy Callahan scored the period's only goal, giving the Minutemen a 3-2 lead. Omicioli negated that lead at the start of the third period, scoring his first short-handed goal of the season just 1:08 into the start of the period. Brad Nizwantowski scored the game-winning goal at 5:07 for UMass. Nolan Schaefer (Yellow Grass, Sask.) recorded 26 saves in the loss for the Friars.
