The Terriers are wrapping up a five-game stretch to close the regular season that does not see them leave Boston (tonight at NU, four games at Agganis). Northeastern has won both prior meetings this season, posting a 6-5 victory at Agganis Arena on Jan. 18 before holding off the Terriers by a score of 3-2 in the opening round of the Beanpot. BU has a better record on the road (8-6-1) than at home (8-7-1) this season. This is not a new trend, however, as the Terriers have had better road records in each of the previous two seasons. WHAT S THE SCENARIO? BU currently stands in fifth place in the Hockey East standings with 28 points, just two points out of third place, which is shared by Boston College and Providence. The Terriers could finish anywhere between second and sixth in the league standings. There is no scenario tonight in which the Terriers would clinch home ice for the Hockey East playoffs. BU would be eliminated from the home-ice race tonight, however, if it earns one less point than Providence, which faces UMass Lowell, and BC gets a win or tie against Vermont. BU has earned home ice all eight seasons since opening Agganis in 2005 and has faced all nine of its Hockey East counterparts in the quarterfinals over the last nine years. SERIES HISTORY This will be the 218th meeting between the Terriers and Huskies since they first took to the ice together during the season. The only team BU has played more games against is Boston College (261). The Terriers are against Northeastern in regularseason meetings since the start of the campaign but the Huskies have won the last three, marking their STATISTICAL LEADERS Scoring Points Danny O Regan 30 Goals Matt Nieto 15 Assists Cason Hohmann 20 PPG Matt Nieto 6 GWG Cason Hohmann, Wade Megan 3 PIM Garrett Noonan 92 Shots Wade Megan 113 +/- Cason Hohmann, Evan Rodrigues +10 Goaltending (min. 400 minutes played) GP Matt O Connor 19 GAA Matt O Connor 2.86 SV% Sean Maguire.914 Wins Sean Maguire, Matt O Connor 8 SO Sean Maguire 2 BU longest winning streak in the series since taking seven straight from March 3, 1987, to Jan. 17, BU holds a (.719) advantage in the series and has not lost a Hockey East regular-season series to the Huskies since the campaign. The Terriers are (.713) in the teams 108 meetings at Matthews Arena. The two teams have played 23 overtime games in the all-time series, and BU holds a edge. The Terriers have recorded 12 of the 15 shutouts in the all-time series. SCOUTING THE HUSKIES The Huskies are just since the turn of the new year, but two of the three wins came against the Terriers. Northeastern will be left out of the Hockey East quarterfinals for the third time in the last four seasons, as it can finish no higher than ninth in the league standings. Freshman Kevin Roy is the league s top rookie scorer and he leads the Huskies in goals (17) and assists (17). His 1.17 points-per-game average leads all Division I freshmen and is second amongst Hockey East players. Senior Vinny Saponari has added 29 points on the strength of 22 assists and junior Cody Ferriero has put up 24 points (11g, 13a). In goal, senior goaltender Chris Rawlings has earned the start in 24 of Northeastern s 32 games this season and has posted a.906 save percentage and a 3.09 goalsagainst average. Jim Madigan is in his second season as head coach at his alma mater and has a record of at the school. OF NOTE This weekend s series features Hockey East s top two rookie scorers in NU s Kevin Roy ( ) and BU s Danny O Regan ( ). Junior Matt Nieto has 12 points (5g, 7a) in 11 career contests against the Huskies and sophomore Evan Rodrigues had six points (3g, 3a) in four tilts versus NU. Kevin Roy provided all of Northeastern s scoring for his first collegiate hat trick. He broke a 1-1 tie with the lone goal of the second before providing the Huskies with a 3-1 cushion on a rebound at the right post with 4:38 left in regulation. Sahir Gill scored an extra-attacker goal with 1:11 remaining, but it was too little, too late for BU. Northeastern has won three consecutive meetings with the Terriers for the first time since winning eight straight in the late 1980s. The Terriers had won each of the 15 Beanpot meetings since the Huskies last Beanpot title in Monday s result ended that streak, which was the longest between any two opponents in the tournament s 61-year history. Roy opened the scoring just 2:09 into the game before Danny O Regan got an equalizer less than four minutes later for his 10th goal of the season. Matt O Connor made 23 saves in his Beanpot debut for the Terriers. Northeastern got a 32-save performance from Chris Rawlings. The Terriers were stymied on the power play, coming up empty on six chances, including a 5- on-3 late in the second that lasted for 1:56. AT AGGANIS IN JANUARY Despite erasing a three-goal deficit in the third period, Boston University dropped a 6-5 contest to Northeastern on Jan. 18 at Agganis Arena. On the wrong end of a 5-2 score through two periods, the Terriers reeled off three goals - including two from Evan Rodrigues - in the opening seven minutes of the third to knot the contest. The visitors struck last, however, as Vinny Saponari potted the winner with 2:03 remaining in regulation. The loss spoiled a career-high four-point effort by Rodrigues, who added two assists. Danny O Regan completed the rally with his eighth goal of the year and also added two assists. Sean Maguire recorded 32 saves for BU and had his five-game win streak come to an end. Chris Rawlings posted 29 saves to earn the victory in goal for Northeastern. The result marked the first time in 14 years that BU has lost consecutive regular-season meetings with Northeastern, as the Terriers dropped a 5-4 overtime contest at Matthews Arena on the final night of last year s regular season. BU went 3-for-6 on its power play after tallying scoring only two man-up goals over its previous six games. LAST TIME OUT Matt Nieto and Garrett Noonan each lit the lamp but Boston University was defeated by Vermont, 5-2, on Saturday night at Agganis Arena. BU and Vermont split the weekend series following the Terriers 3-1 triumph the night before. A shorthanded goal by Noonan pulled the Terriers to within a goal at 3-2 with 12:31 remaining in regulation, but Vermont put the game out of reach with a tally at the 18:22 mark of the third period before adding an empty net goal with nine seconds to play. Sean Maguire stopped 37 shots in the loss after recording a season-high 49 in Friday s triumph. Chris McCarthy scored the empty-netter and added two assists for the Catamounts, who got a goal and an assist from Kyle Reynolds. Goaltender Brody Hoffman recorded 26 saves to earn the win. NIETO HONORED BY HOCKEY EAST After scoring six straight goals for the Terriers, junior Matt Nieto was named the Athletic Republic Hockey East Co-Player of the Week on Monday. Nieto s week was highlighted by a hat-trick performance in a 3-1 victory over Vermont on Friday at Agganis Arena. The Warriors scored the game s first goal, but Nieto responded with the next three for a natural hat trick. He scored BU s final two goals - and added an assist - in a 5-2 triumph over then-no. 17 Merrimack earlier in the week. On Saturday, he scored the Terriers first tally against UVM to put the finishing touches on a seven-point week (6g, 1a). With his offensive burst, Nieto now leads the Terriers in goals this season with 15 and is in a three-way tie for second in points with 29. Nieto is the fourth Terrier to earn the accolade this season, joining Cason Hohmann, Evan Rodrigues and Matt O Connor. 3 HAT TRICK NOTES Nieto s hat trick last Friday against Vermont was the first by a Terrier since Brandon Yip achieved the feat on March 6, 2009, at Providence. Jason Lawrence recorded BU s most recent natural hat trick at UMass just seven days prior to Yip s. Nieto is just the second Terrier to record a hat trick at Agganis, joining David Van der Gulik, who did it twice (2/4/05 vs. UMass Lowell, 3/10/06 vs. UMass). FINE LINE Over the last 16 games, BU s forward line of junior Matt Nieto, freshman Danny O Regan and sophomore Evan Rodrigues has been one of the best in the country, combining for 58 combined points (27g, 31a). Nieto ( ), Rodrigues ( ) and O Regan ( ) are three of the top four Hockey East scorers during the span. Rodrigues left the Jan. 25 game at PC with a hand injury and missed the contest the following night. It was just the second game missed to injury by a Terrier this season. TERRIER TIDBITS Senior defenseman Sean Escobedo leads the nation in blocked shots with 87. The Terriers went 172:18 without allowing a 5-on-5 goal before UMass Lowell scored two in the second period on Feb. 22. In the Terriers 17 games since the turn of the new year, nine of them have been decided by a single goal or resulted in a tie. Until its 6-5 overtime loss to Harvard on Jan. 9, BU this season hadn t lost to an unranked opponent, lost a one-goal game or lost when it led after two periods. The Terriers played nine games against ranked opponents in the 2012 portion of its schedule but the only ranked squads since the turn of the new year were UMass Lowell and Merrimack. Senior Wade Megan appeared in 102 consecutive games before having to sit out the Jan. 4 game with a shoulder injury. BU allowed two or fewer goals in all but one of its 16 victories this season. The Terriers 5-4 overtime win at Maine on Feb. 16 marked the only time all season that they were victorious when allowing more than two goals. BU had a scoreless streak of over two games (127:65) before Ryan Santana scored late in the first period of the Jan. 4 win over RPI. Only four players on BU s roster have more than 13 career goals. BU is in the last 42 times it has allowed exactly two goals. BALANCED ATTACK The Terriers top four scorers are separated by only a point, as freshman Danny O Regan leads the team with 30 points and three others have tallied 29. During one stretch this season, the team had 14 goals scored by 13 different players. Eighteen of the 22 skaters that have dressed this season have scored at least one goal and 20 of them have at least one point. BU has had nine different players record a gamewinner this season. O REGAN ON A ROLL All 30 of Danny O Regan s points (12g, 18a) have come in the last 31 games. He ranks second among league rookies in scoring. O Regan, who led all D- I freshmen in points during January with 11 (4g, 7a) was named the Hockey East Rookie of the Month for January. He had four multi-point efforts in the month, including a career-best three points twice. He is the third Terrier to earn the monthly honor this season, joining goaltender Matt O Connor (Oct.) and defenseman Matt Grzelcyk (Nov.). O Regan is attempting to become the first freshman to lead BU in scoring since Tony Amonte in the season. MAGUIRE S STREAK SNAPPED Freshman Sean Maguire had a five-start win streak snapped in the 6-5 loss to Northeastern on Jan. 18. He posted a 0.99 goals-against average and a.966 save percentage during the win streak. He stopped 37 of 38 shots in BU s 4-1 win at Merrimack on Jan. 11 and was named Hockey East Co-Rookie of the Week for his efforts. Maguire had a shutout skein of 141:19 come to an end in the first period of the RPI game on Jan. 4. That was the longest by a Terrier since John Curry put together a streak of 144:40 during the season. He became the first Terrier in program history to record shutouts in each of his first two home starts. Thanks to a 21-save shutout against St. Lawrence, he was named Hockey East Rookie of the Week on Nov. 26. He followed that up with a 28-save shutout against Maine. GIVE HIM AN A Junior defenseman Garrett Noonan was named an assistant captain for the remainder of the season by head coach Jack Parker on Dec. 14. Noonan has appeared in 107 career games for the Terriers and has 60 points on 25 goals and 35 assists. This season, the blueliner ranks seventh on the team with 18 points (5g, 13a). He is the lone junior amongst the team s group of captains, as captain Wade Megan and assistant captain Ryan Ruikka are both seniors. DYNAMIC DUO Linemates Cason Hohmann (9g, 20a) and Wade Megan (14g, 11a) rank tied for second and fifth on the team in scoring with 29 and 25 points, respectively. Megan has scored at least one point in 19 contests this season. He has scored a goal in 14 of his last 32 contests. This season, Hohmann has already more than tripled his rookie point total (2-6--8) and he is tied for the team lead with a plus-10 rating. EARLY PRAISE FOR GRZELCYK Freshman defenseman Matt Grzelcyk ranks sixth on the team in points with 20 (3g, 17a). He is second among Hockey East defensemen in assists. He ranks fourth in the country amongst freshman defensemen in points and is third among Hockey East d-men in points and fifth among league rookies. Grzelcyk was named Hockey East Rookie of the Month for November, scoring at least one point in seven of the eight contests in the month and totaled eight points (2g, 6a) and a plus-4 rating. Both of his goals came against Boston College with the latter being the game-winner on Nov. 30. On Dec. 4, Grzelcyk was named to the preliminary roster for the 2013 U.S. National Junior Team and was also tabbed the Hockey East Rookie of the Month for November. He ended up being the last player cut for the U.S. National Junior Team, which is currently competing at the International Ice Hockey Federation World Junior Championship in Ufa, Russia. TOPPING THE TOP-RANKED BU played three straight games against the topranked team in the country and the Terriers won two of them. After splitting with then-no. 1 Boston College on Nov. 30-Dec. 1 to knock the Eagles out of the top spot, the Terriers posted a 3-2 win at No. 1 New Hampshire on Dec. 6. It marked the first time BU faced a top-ranked team three straight games since defeating Michi- SITUATIONAL RECORDS Three- Year Span Overall Hockey East Home Away Neutral Overtime Vs. ranked opponents Vs. unranked opponents Vs. BU is now over the last four times it has faced a UNH team that was No. 1 in the rankings. The triumph over the Eagles marked BU s first win over a No. 1-ranked team since a 4-3 victory over BC at Conte Forum on Jan. 27, FRESHMAN NOTES Freshman defenseman Ahti Oksanen has scored four goals since making his debut on Oct. 26 after sitting out the first two games. The suspension was issued by the NCAA because a professional player played on his team in Finland. BU has had nine freshmen in the lineup in eight contests this season. D PROVIDING O Through 33 games, BU s defensemen have combined to record 77 points (17g, 60a). During the 2012 portion of last year s schedule, the Terriers defensemen combined to tally 74 points (24g, 50a) in 23 games. Last season, Garrett Noonan ranked tied for first nationally with Wisconsin s Justin Schultz in goals by a defenseman with 16. That was the most by a BU blueliner since Vic Stanfield had 16 in and was just one off the school s NCAA-era record of 17 set by Bob Brown in the season. SCORING BY CLASS The freshmen hold a lead over the sophomores the race for scoring by class. The juniors hold a lead over the rookies in goals. Goals Assists Points Freshmen Sophomores Juniors Seniors Totals TOUGH TO BLANK BU went 125 straight games without being shut out before a 6-0 loss at Denver on Dec. 29. That was the longest such streak in the country. Michigan had the second-longest streak at 68 until it was blanked by Ferris St. in November, so Minnesota at 78 now holds the top spot. The Terriers have been shut out just four times in their last 247 contests. GET SHORTY Boston University was fourth in the nation last season in shorthanded goals with nine. This season, the Terriers have six shorthanded goals, including three by Wade Megan, which puts him tied for the nation lead. BU allowed two shorthanded goals last season and didn t give one up until the Beanpot title game. Over the past four seasons, 23 different BU players have recorded a shorthanded goal. ROAD WARRIORS The Terriers had the best road record in the nation last season at (.719) and have eight road wins this season. After suffering a 7-1 loss at UMass Lowell last Nov. 5 in the team s most lopsided defeat in over 12 years, the Terriers won 10 straight games on the road in Hockey East play. BU joined Maine s national title team as the only Hockey East squads to win 10 straight conference road games. That famed squad went 12-0 on the road in league play. A NEW ERA IN GOAL This marked the first time in 43 years that BU entered a season in which none of its goaltenders had appeared in an NCAA game. The Terrier team featured Tim Regan, Dan Brady and Stefen Brueckner in goal. A pair of Canadian freshmen - Sean Maguire and Matt O Connor - join junior Anthony Moccia to form the team s goaltending unit this season. Moccia was named to the BU roster last year, but did not see any time. WEARING THE C Senior forward Wade Megan is serving as the team s captain this season. Defenseman Ryan Ruikka - a fifth-year senior - is an assistant captain, as is junior Garrett Noonan, who earned an A after this season s first semester WELCOME ABOARD The Terriers have eight freshmen - four forwards (Sam Kurker, Matt Lane, Mike Moran, Danny O Regan), two defenseman (Matt Grzelcyk, Ahti Oksanen), two goaltenders (Sean Maguire, Matt O Connor) - on their roster this season. NHL HOPEFULS Seven of the Terriers on this year s roster have been chosen by a team in the National Hockey League Entry Draft. The seven players have their rights owned by six different clubs, as the San Jose Sharks have drafted two current BU players: Matt Grzelcyk (Boston, 2012) Sam Kurker (St. Louis, 2012) Wade Megan (Florida, 2009) Sean Maguire (Pittsburgh, 2012) Danny O Regan (San Jose, 2012) Matt Nieto (San Jose, 2011) Garrett Noonan (Nashville, 2011) PRO PIPELINE 12 former Terriers were on NHL opening-day rosters: Adrian Aucoin (Columbus) Nick Bonino (Anaheim) Chris Bourque (Boston) Rick DiPietro (New York Islanders) Matt Gilroy (New York) Tom Poti (Washington) Kevin Shattenkirk (St. Louis) Brian Strait (New York Islanders) David Warsofsky (Boston) Ryan Whitney (Edmonton) Colin Wilson (Nashville) Brandon Yip (Nashville) Three others were in NHL training camps: John McCarthy (San Jose) Jay Pandolfo (Boston) David Van der Gulik (Colorado) Van der Gulik was called up earlier this month and dressed for two games with the Avalanche. Pandolfo signed a one-year deal with the Bruins on Feb. 13 and played on Sunday at Winnipeg. Charlie Coyle was called up by Minnesota on Feb. 3 and made his NHL debut the following night. Eric Gryba was called up by Binghamton on Feb. 15 and made his NHL debut the following night, becoming the 15th former Terrier to play in the NHL this season. 12 others have either played in the AHL this season or last season: Alex Chiasson (Texas) Adam Clendening (Chicago) Colby Cohen (Providence) Zach Cohen (Lake Erie) Justin Courtnall (Providence) John Curry (Houston) Pete MacArthur (Lake Erie) Kieran Millan (Lake Erie) Max Nicastro (Grand Rapids)

Cohen, Gilroy, Gryba, McCarthy, Shattenkirk, Strait, Warsofsky, Wilson, Yip.) The BU team holds the program record for having the most players eventually reach the NHL at ST SEASON The Terriers are in their 91st season of intercollegiate play and currently hold a (.626) record. BU s 1,442 wins are only surpassed by Minnesota (1,673 wins - 91 seasons) and Michigan (1,569 wins - 90 seasons). The three programs represent a trio of the top NCAA Division I college hockey conferences in the WCHA (Minnesota), CCHA (Michigan) and Hockey East (BU), and hold a combined 19 national titles between them. COACH PARKER NOTES 40th SEASON ON THE TERRIER BENCH BU head coach Jack Parker is now in his 40th season and holds a career record of (.643). His 892 wins mark the most of any college hockey coach at the same institution and he ranks second among active coaches in wins and fourth in winning percentage. VS. THE HUSKIES Parker has coached 143 games against the Huskies second only to his 153 match-ups with Boston College and has an impressive (.699) record against them. IN HOCKEY EAST Parker holds an all-time (.626) record in Hockey East regular-season play, which is the most wins of any league coach. GAME RECAPS NIETO LEADS BU PAST VERMONT, 3-1 (3/1) Matt Nieto erased a 1-0 deficit with a natural hat trick and Sean Maguire made a career-high 49 saves to lead BU to a 3-1 victory over Vermont. Nieto, who has scored BU s last five goals after getting the final two in Tuesday s win against Merrimack, scored back-to-back power-play tallies to give BU the lead after the visitors got on the board first at 18:27 of the first. The junior got the equalizer just 68 seconds after the Catamounts strike to send the teams into the first intermission in a 1-1 deadlock. Another power-play chance early in the second set the stage for the go-ahead goal by Nieto at the 4-minute mark. The natural hat trick was completed at 4:47 of the third when Nieto finished off a 2-on-2 rush with Evan Rodrigues, who assisted on the final two markers. Danny O Regan also registered two helpers. Maguire stopped the final 40 shots he faced, including 22 in the third period alone. Vermont got a 29-save performance from Brody Hoffman. Chris McCarthy opened the scoring with his team-leading 10th goal of the season. Cason Hohmann won 18 of 20 faceoffs for the Terriers, who went 2-for-6 on the power play. UVM came up empty on its three chances with the man advantage. TERRIERS FINISH MERRIMACK SWEEP (2/26) BU ended its recent home woes with a 5-2 victory over No. 17 Merrimack on Feb. 26. The Terriers completed a season sweep of the Warriors and ended a five-game home winless streak (0-4-1), its longest since moving to campus in BU also avoided its first one-win February since Matt Nieto tallied two goals and an assist and turned in a plus-4 rating while linemate Evan Rodrigues added a goal and an assist. Sahir Gill and Cason Hohmann each found the back of the net. Sean Escobedo recorded two assists. The Terriers scored three goals in the opening period and added two more in the second to take a commanding 5-0 lead before allowing the visitors to score two third-period goals. Matt O Connor posted 32 saves in goal for the Terriers to earn his eighth victory of the season. LOWELL COMPLETES SWEEP (2/23) Boston University dropped a 3-1 road contest to No. 12 UMass Lowell on Feb. 23 at Tsongas Center. The River Hawks completed their first season sweep of BU since the campaign, having earned a 3-0 win the night before and a 4-3 triumph on Jan both at Agganis Arena. UMass Lowell opened the scoring just 5:47 into the contest on a goal by Scott Wilson before doubling its lead midway through the second on a power-play tally from the stick of Chad Ruhwedel. The Terriers got on the board with 11:35 left in regulation while Lowell was on one of its 10 power plays. Evan Rodrigues converted a shorthanded wraparound off an assist by Sahir Gill to cut the deficit in half. However, the River Hawks established a two-goal cushion soon after when Joseph Pendenza got ahead of the BU defense and beat goaltender Sean Maguire to make it 3-1 at 12:05 of the third. BU would get no closer, as Connor Hellebuyck made 15 saves to pick up his 10th straight win. UMass Lowell held a commanding shot advantage with Maguire stopping 36 of those in goal for the Terriers. LOWELL BLANKS BU AT AGGANIS (2/22) Boston University was blanked, 3-0, by UMass Lowell, on Feb. 22 at Agganis Arena in the opener of a weekend home-and-home series. The visiting River Hawks broke a scoreless game with goals just over two minutes apart in the second period and then added a power-play goal with 5:05 left in regulation. Freshman Connor Hellebuyck recorded a 25-save shutout for the River Hawks, who got goals from Scott Wilson, Joseph Pendenza and Riley Wetmore. BU, which got a 24-save performance from freshman Matt O Connor, had three power-play chances and killed off five of the visitors six opportunities with the man advantage. The offense was stifled for the majority of the game and was unable to produce good scoring looks on Hellebuyck and the River Hawk defense. The result marked the first time since a 3-0 loss to Notre Dame on Oct. 20, 2009, that the Terriers were shut out at home. TERRIERS WIN OT THRILLER AT MAINE (2/16) Matt Nieto scored with 3.8 seconds left in overtime to lift Boston University to a thrilling 5-4 victory at Maine on Jan. 16 at Alfond Arena. With seconds ticking down in overtime, O Regan sprung Evan Rodrigues for a 2-on-0 with Nieto. Rodrigues skated up the right side and waited until the last second before passing off to Nieto, who converted at the left post to seal a threepoint weekend for the Terriers. BU struck three times in the middle period, including a strike by Matt Grzelcyk with 51 seconds remaining in the stanza, before O Regan pushed the lead to 4-1 on a power-play tally just 1:03 into the third. Less than three minutes later, the Black Bears began their rally when senior Joey Diamond scored from the right crease at the 3:59 mark. Maine used a shorthanded goal and a late extraattacker tally to force overtime. Maine held a shot advantage and went 1-for-5 on the power play. BU converted on two of its six chances with the man advantage. BU SKATES TO 3-3 DRAW AT MAINE (2/15) BU allowed three power-play goals but got a game-tying goal from Ahti Oksanen with 11:58 left in regulation to earn a 3-3 draw with Maine at Alfond Arena. BU jumped out to a 2-0 lead with goals just 10 seconds apart midway through the opening period by Matt Nieto and Wade Megan. The Black Bears, however, reeled off three straight power-play goals to take a 3-2 lead early in the second. The Terriers had just two power-play chances on the night but used the latter to tie the game. A shot by Oksanen through traffic from the center point beat Maine goaltender Martin Ouellette. Maine appeared to regain the lead with 5:19 left in regulation on yet another power-play marker. However, the call was reversed following a video replay that ruled a Maine player was in the crease. The game headed to overtime, where each team recorded three shots on goal but neither could come up with a winner. The Black Bears held a shot advantage for the game and converted on three of their eight chances with the man advantage. Matt O Connor turned in a 33-save performance for the Terriers, who snapped a three-game losing streak but extended their winless streak to five games (1-3-1). Ouellette turned aside 23 shots. TERRIERS TOPPED BY HARVARD (2/11) Boston University dropped a 7-4 contest to Harvard in the consolation game of the 61st Beanpot at TD Garden on Feb. 11. BU scored the first two goals of the game and held a 3-2 lead early in the second before the Crimson reeled off four straight goals, capped by a tally at 3:13 of the third to make it a 6-3 contest. The Terriers got their second power-play goal of the night with 8:36 remaining in regulation to cut the deficit to two but Harvard s Luke Greiner finished off a hat trick with an empty-netter in the closing seconds to create the 7-4 final. Harvard (6-15-2) is just in its last 17 contests but both wins have come against the Terriers. Wade Megan and Cason Hohmann each recorded a goal and an assist for BU. Mike Moran opened the scoring with his first collegiate goal and Evan Rodrigues also found the back of the net. BU tied a season high with 47 shots on goal and allowed 31 on the other end as Sean Maguire made 24 saves in his Beanpot debut. Fellow freshman Peter Traber picked up the win in goal with a 43-save performance. MINUTEMEN HAND BU 5-1 LOSS (2/1) Boston University suffered a 5-1 setback at the hands of Massachusetts on Feb. 1 at Mullins Center. Michael Pereira registered two goals and two assists for the Minutemen. Sean Maguire made 23 saves in goal for the Terriers while UMass netminder Kevin Boyle was only forced to make 19 saves on the night. Branden Gracel opened the scoring late in the opening period on a tap-in at the right crease by following a nice feed by Pereira. Gracel added two assists. TERRIERS SKATE TO 3-3 DRAW WITH PC (1/26) Danny O Regan scored a game-tying goal with 6:39 left in regulation to help Boston University earn a 3-3 draw with Providence on Jan. 26 at Agganis Arena. Each team scored in all three periods before an overtime period in which in the Terriers controlled play but were unable to record a winner. The Terriers opened the scoring late in the first on a goal off a rush by Ben Rosen but had to erase deficits of 2-1 and 3-2 to secure what would be BU s first tie in nearly 15 months. The Friars broke a 2-2 tie with a goal by Shane Luke just 39 seconds into the third period. O Regan s equalizer - a wraparound at the left post - was initially waved off due to a crease violation, but after a video replay, the officials reversed the call. O Regan and linemate Matt Nieto each recorded a goal and an assist with Nieto s tally coming on a 5-on-3 power play midway through the second. Matt O Connor posted 26 saves in his first collegiate tie while fellow rookie Jon Gilles made 28 stops on the other end. TERRIERS RALLY FOR WIN AT PC (1/25) After spotting Providence a pair of early goals, Boston University rallied for a 3-2 victory over the Friars on Jan. 25 at Schneider Arena. Evan Rodrigues singlehandedly erased the deficit with a pair of goals and Sahir Gill provided the game-winner with 12:46 left in regulation. Sean Maguire turned in a standout 32-save performance, stopping the final 23 shots he faced. The Friars opened the scoring just under eight minutes into the contest when Ross Mauermann capitalized off a neutral-zone turnover. Under nine minutes later, PC doubled its firstperiod lead as Brandon Tanev scored after BU was unable to clear the puck after blocking a shot in the high slot. The Terriers were able to get on the board before the first intermission, however, as Rodrigues was the beneficiary of a nice pass by Danny O Regan and sent home a shot with 43 seconds remaining in the opening stanza. Rodrigues struck again in the second, evening the score with the lone goal of the period. He backhanded a rebound past Providence netminder Jon Gillies from the low right slot to finish off a rush. The game-winner came just moments after Rodrigues left the game due to a hand injury. Gill converted a wraparound at the left post at 12:46 of the third to give the Terriers a lead they would not relinquish. The visitors gave PC a pair of power-play chances down the stretch, but BU went on to earn its sixth Hockey East road win in its last seven tries. Gillies made 22 saves for the Friars, who held a shot advantage. BU (0-for-4) and PC (0-for- 3) each came up empty on its power play. Merrimack spoiled Maguire s shutout bid when Kyle Bigos shot got through traffic with 6:22 left in regulation. Maguire won his fifth straight start and Rasmus Tirronen made 20 stops in goal for the Warriors, who held a shot advantage but only had a handful of strong scoring chances thanks to a great effort by the Terrier defense. Merrimack s Mike Collins was held without a point for the first time in league play this season. BU STUNNED BY CRIMSON AT AGGANIS (1/9) Connor Morrision scored with 47.2 seconds left in overtime to cap a late four-goal run by visiting Harvard as Boston University dropped a 6-5 contest on Jan. 9 at Agganis Arena. Sean Maguire won his fourth straight start to move to a perfect at home with his 27-save performance. RPI got 38 saves from Bryce Merriam. Hohmann s game-winner came on a rush along the right side set up initially by Patrick Mac- Gregor. Gill took a pass from MacGregor near the penalty boxes and backhanded the puck up the boards to Hohmann. With Matt Nieto charging hard to the net, Hohmann skated through the right circle and watched the defense gravitate towards Nieto before waiting out Merriam and roofing a shot over his glove to end the game. The Terriers held a shot advantage, including a 15-4 margin in the third, but came up empty on all five of their power-play chances. BU committed just one penalty, however, and was able to successfully kill it off. Ryan Santana scored BU s other goal - his first of the season - when he answered RPI s early tally late in the first. 9 Matt O Connor improved to a perfect on the season and matched his career high with a 34- save performance. Classmate Matt Grzelcyk earned the primary assist on both of BU s last two goals. Oksanen opened the scoring 1:22 into the second period on a one-timer from the top of the right circle on assists by sophomore Cason Hohmann and Megan. Megan doubled the lead just over seven minutes later on a wrister from the left circle after getting sprung up the left side on a pass by Grzelcyk. Merrimack cut the deficit in half early in the third on a power-play wrister by John Heffernan, but that was the only shot that got by O Connor. Merrimack, which got 22 saves from junior Sam Marotta, held a shot advantage. TERRIERS SPLIT AT THE RALPH (11/2-3) Three goals in a span of 3:42 late in the third period turned a 2-1 deficit into a 4-2 triumph, as BU rallied to earn a weekend split with No. 5/6 North Dakota on Nov. 2-3 in Grand Forks. Matt Nieto tied the game with 5:21 left and Matt Lane provided the game-winner at 18:10 with his first collegiate goal. Just 11 seconds after Lane s marker, Danny O Regan completed the spurt with a late insurance tally. Matt O Connor improved to with a 26-save performance, helping BU earn its first-ever win in Grand Forks in eight tries (1-6-1). The victory also snapped UND s 12-game home unbeaten streak (10-0-2) and it marked the first time since March 13, 2010, that NoDak lost a home game in which it held a third-period lead. After UND opened the scoring 5:47 into the game on a fluke goal by Stephane Pattyn, Wade Megan tied the game just 42 seconds into the middle stanza on a wrister from the right circle. The home team regained the lead midway through the second on a goal by Danny Kristo. That 2-1 advantage for North Dakota held for over 25 minutes of play until Nieto took a pass from O Regan and wristed a shot past UND netminder Zane Gothberg from the high slot. Gothberg made 29 saves for UND, as BU held a shot advantage. Each team went 0-for-3 on its power play. Despite taking a 1-0 lead into the second period on Friday, BU fell to North Dakota, 4-2. O Regan and Ahti Oksanen scored for the Terriers. Connor Gaarder tallied a hat trick for UND, scoring its first three goals. He broke a 2-2 tie with the game-winner on a 5-on-3 power play. O Regan opened the scoring 16:52 into the contest before Gaarder scored twice in the first half of the middle stanza. With BU on a major power play, Oksanen recorded his first collegiate goal from the top of the zone to make it 2-2 midway through the second. BU, which gave the home team four power-play chances in the third period, struggled to create offensive chances in the third and could not answer Gaarder s third tally. Rocco Grimaldi created the 4-2 final on an empty-netter with 20 seconds left in regulation. Sean Maguire recorded 31 saves for the Terriers and made a handful of standout stops in what was just his second collegiate start. Junior Clarke Saunders made 20 saves in goal for UND, which held a shot advantage. The Terriers successfully killed off six of NoDak s seven power-play chances. BU s only power-play try was on the major penalty. LATE GOAL LIFTS BU TO UMASS SWEEP (10/27) Sean Escobedo scored off a rebound with 1:22 left in regulation to lift BU to a thrilling 3-2 come-from-behind road win over Massachusetts. Faced with a 2-0 deficit just over a minute into the second, BU was able to tie heading into the third before Escobedo s late heroics completed a weekend home-and-home sweep. Head coach Jack Parker did not make the trip to Amherst, as he was recovering from a back injury that kept him from being on the bench in Friday s 5-2 victory at Agganis. The winning goal came on a rush set up initially with a pass from Matt Nieto to Danny O Regan, who skated up the left before firing a shot that was saved by UMass netminder Kevin Boyle. O Regan and Escobedo charged in towards the rebound and Escobedo - who was celebrating his 22nd birthday - chopped at the puck and popped it over Boyle for his first goal of the season. Matt O Connor turned in another impressive outing, stopping the last 25 shots he faced as part of a career-best 34-save performance. In addition to assisting on the game-winner, Nieto provided the game-tying goal. O Regan and Garrett Noonan each recorded two assists on the night and Escobedo registered a game-high five blocked shots. O REGAN PUSHES TERRIERS PAST UMASS (10/26) Danny O Regan scored the first two goals of his collegiate career and Cason Hohmann added two late tallies as part of a three-point night to help BU post a 5-2 win over UMass at Agganis Arena. It was a special night at Agganis, as over 80 former players attended and were part of a firstintermission ceremony to honor Jack Parker for his 40 years as head coach of the Terriers. Parker was not on the bench for the game due to a back ailment and watched from the coaches box. Matt O Connor earned his second win in as many starts thanks to a 28-save performance. The Terriers never trailed in the contest. After a scoreless first, Wade Megan opened the scoring 51 seconds into the second. Less than four minutes later, O Regan doubled the lead when he tipped in a feed from classmate Matt Grzelcyk for his first goal in a BU uniform. O Regan put BU up 3-1 at the 4:33 mark of the third on a 5-on-3 power play following yet another great look by Grzelcyk. After the Minutemen got within one at 3-2, Hohmann scored on a power-play rush 43 seconds later to dampen UMass hopes at a comeback. Hohmann put the finishing touches on the victory with an empty netter with 50 seconds left. BU FALLS AT UNH (10/20) Despite scoring on the first shot of the game, Boston University dropped a 4-1 contest to then- No. 15 New Hampshire at the Whittemore Center. Wade Megan scored off a 2-on-1 rush with Evan Rodrigues just 43 seconds into the contest, but the home squad responded midway through the first with goals 18 seconds apart to go up, 2-1. The home team added two more tallies in the second to earn the victory. UNH had 10 players record one point each and got goals from John Henrion, Nick Sorkin, Eric Knodel and Scott Pavelski. Making his collegiate debut, Sean Maguire made 10 saves and allowed all four goals in 32:19 between the pipes before giving way to classmate Matt O Connor, who stopped all 15 shots he faced. Casey DeSmith earned the win in goal for UNH, recording 24 saves while keeping the visitors scoreless for the final 59:17 of the evening. BU EDGES PC IN SEASON OPENER (10/13) Two goals late in the second period turned a deficit into a lead, as the Terriers posted a 4-2 victory over Providence in their season opener at Agganis Arena. Cason Hohmann scored the game-winner and added two assists. Ryan Ruikka opened the scoring in the first before the Friars took a 2-1 lead. Garrett Noonan tied the game and Ben Rosen added an empty-netter. Matt O Connor recorded 26 saves in his collegiate debut and Jon Gillies made 30 stops for PC. Ruikka opened the scoring 7:52 in when found the top right corner from the top of the zone. Providence got an equalizer before the end of the first and Paul de Jersey put the visitors up, 2-1, at 5:15 of the second off a rebound at the left post. The Terriers regained the lead before the end of the period as Noonan blasted a shot from the high shot that made its way through traffic at 15:58 and Hohmann converted from the foot of the left circle less than three minutes later off a drop pass by Evan Rodrigues. O Connor stopped the final 13 shots he faced, keeping the visitors scoreless for the final 34:45. Rosen scored a late empty-netter when he flipped the puck into the PC net from just outside the BU blue line.
