The teams have not met since the regular-season finale last year on March 9, BU is looking to rebound after being shut out in both ends of a series at Notre Dame last weekend. FROM THE RINK TO THE RAFTERS Tonight at Jack Parker Rink, the legendary coach it s named after will become just the second person in program history to have his number retired, as his No. 6 will join Travis Roy s No. 24 in the rafters of Agganis Arena. Parker retired last March following 40 seasons as head coach of the Terriers. He first became associated with the BU hockey program in 1963, when he arrived on campus as a freshman. He wore the No. 6 jersey for a reason outside of hockey, as he idolized Boston Celtics legend Bill Russell while growing up. It s fitting that the number retirement takes place right after the Olympics, as Team USA s Kevin Shattenkirk just became the 24th BU player who was coached by Parker to play for his country at the Games. BU currently stands in 10th place in the Hockey East standings with nine points, just two points out of ninth place. The Terriers could still finish anywhere between ninth and 11th in the league standings. If BU earns two points this weekend and either Vermont gets a win versus UMass Lowell or Notre Dames loses to Boston College on Saturday, the Terriers will clinch the ninth seed and visit Notre Dame in the first round. A Merrimack loss to New Hampshire ensures that the Terriers will finish either ninth or 10th. BU earned home ice for the quarterfinals all nine seasons since opening Agganis in 2005 but that streak will come to an end this year. SERIES HISTORY This will be the 220th meeting between the Terriers and Huskies since they first took to the ice together during the season. The only team BU has played more games against is Boston College (265). The Terriers are against Northeastern in regular-season meetings since the start of the campaign. BU holds a (.721) advantage in the series and has not lost a Hockey East regular-season series to the Huskies since the campaign. SCOUTING THE HUSKIES Picked last in the Hockey East Preseason Coaches Poll, Northeastern enters the final weekend of the regular season ranked ninth in the country. With a first-round bye secured, the Huskies are now trying to earn home ice for the league quarterfinals. The Huskies earned three points at home last weekend against Maine, capped by a 4-3 victory on Saturday. Sophomore Kevin Roy has a team-best 42 points (17g, 25a), which ranks fourth amongst Hockey East players. Freshman Mike Szmatula leads all Division I rookies in points per game at 1.12, having tallied 36 points (12g, 24a) thus far. Senior Braden Pimm has added 31 points on the strength of a team-best 18 goals. The Huskies earned a 3-2 win in the semifinals of the Beanpot. BEST VS. THE HUSKIES Three Terriers have each scored eight points against Northeastern in their careers, as senior Garrett Noonan, junior Evan Rodrigues and sophomore Danny O Regan each have four goals and four assists. O Regan has reached that total in just four games while Rodrigues and Noonan have played six and 11 games, respectively, versus the Huskies in their careers. Sophomore Sean Maguire went in three starts against the Huskies as a rookie, including a 25-save shutout in the last meeting. SHUT OUT IN SOUTH BEND Boston University suffered a pair of 2-0 shutouts at the hands of No. 15 Notre Dame last weekend in South Bend. It was the first-ever Hockey East series between the two schools. It marked the first time the Terriers were shutout in back-to-back games in over 72 years, as BU was blanked at Yale (8-0) and Princeton (3-0) in its first two games (Dec. 10 & 13) after the attack on Pearl Harbor took place on Dec. 7, BU had never been shut out in consecutive games by the same team. 3 The Terriers have now gone 172:20 without a goal. For Notre Dame, junior Austin Wuthrich scored a goal in each game and senior goaltender Steven Summerhays lengthened his current scoreless skein to 190:19. The Terriers recorded 19 shots on Friday but allowed a season-low 20. Sophomore goaltender Matt O Connor turned in an 18-save performance on Friday before classmate Sean Maguire turned aside 38 shots on Saturday. QUALITY WINS Five of the Terriers eight wins this season have come against teams currently ranked in the top 17 of the USCHO.com Poll. TRENDING Junior Evan Rodrigues and freshman Robbie Baillargeon (1g, 3a) each have four points (2g, 2a) in the past five games. Sophomore Ahti Oksanen has 11 points (4g, 7a) in the last 15 contests. Junior Cason Hohmann has scored a goal in seven of his past 16 games and shares the team lead in tallies with nine. He has 11 points (7g, 4a) in his last 17 games. Freshman Nick Roberto has had three multi-point games since the start of the second half and has 13 points (5g, 8a) in his last 21 games. NOONAN JOINS 30-GOAL CLUB With his goal at Fenway last month, senior Garrett Noonan became the sixth defenseman in BU history to reach 30 career goals. His next goal will put him in a three-way tie for fourth with Bob Brown 72 and Vic Stanfield 75. Noonan is the first Terrier blueliner since Stanfield to reach the 30-goal mark. FRESHMAN DUO Freshman forward Robbie Baillargeon leads the team lead in points with 23 (8g, 15a) and classmate Nick Roberto has added 17 (7g, 10a). All 23 of Baillargeon s points have come in the last 29 games and 17 of them came at even strength. Baillargeon s been named a Hockey East Top Performer six times this season and is 23rd in the nation in points per game amongst rookies (0.72). Baillargeon is attempting to become the second straight freshman to lead BU in scoring. Last season, Danny O Regan became the first Terrier rookie since Tony Amonte in to finish first on the team in points. SPECIAL TEAMS UPS AND DOWNS BU had Hockey East s best power-play unit for most of January, but has come up empty on 36 of its last 38 chances with the man advantage. BU finally snapped an 0-for-25 drought on the power play on Feb. 14 at UNH. At one point in early January, the Terriers scored on five straight power plays off minor penalties. BU has killed off 41 of its opponents last 48 power-play chances. BU is ranked 23rd nationally in combined specials teams at 50.7 percent. DUO RETURNS FROM JUNIORS Sophomores Danny O Regan and Matt Grzelcyk played on the 2014 U.S. National Junior Team that competed in the International Ice Hockey Federation World Junior Championship in Malmo, Sweden. Both made their World Junior debuts and Grzelcyk was named one of Team USA s top 3 players after finishing tied for second on the squad in points with six (2g, 4a), which was the most by a defenseman. Grzelcyk suffered a shoulder injury in practice on Jan. 9 and has undergone seasonending surgery. DEFENSE CREATING OFFENSE BU s defensemen have combined to score 61 points (14g, 47a) this season. Sophomore Ahti Oksanen (6g, 16a) ranks second on the team with 22 points. His d-partner for the vast majority of the season, Garrett Noonan, is tied for fourth on the team in scoring with 18 points (4g, 14a). Of BU s first nine goals this season, Oksanen factored in seven of them (1g, 6a). In the victory over Wisconsin, three Terrier defensemen had multi-point evenings: Noonan (1g, 2a), Oksanen (1g, 1a), Matt Grzelcyk (1g, 1a). That was the first time that had happened since an 8-0 victory at Providence on Jan. 21, The three players then were Alexx Privitera (2a), Max Nicastro (1g, 2a) and Noonan (1g, 1a). DISCIPLINED After averaging at least 15 penalty minutes per game in each of the past five seasons, the Terriers are averaging only 10.9 penalty minutes per contest thus far this season. If that average holds up, it will be BU s lowest since the campaign. The Terriers finished in the top eight nationally in penalty minutes each of the past three seasons. BALANCED ATTACK The Terriers boasts one of the most balanced scoring attacks in the nation, as their top six scorers all have at least 17 points and are separated by only six points. Goals Assists Points Sophomores Freshmen Juniors Seniors Totals BANNER OPPONENTS This season, BU has faced exactly half of the other 18 schools who have won an NCAA D-I title. Harvard became the ninth and final member of this group when the crosstown rivals faced off on Jan. 4. The Terriers played four straight games against former NCAA champions in October, as BU hosted RPI and Wisconsin on Oct before visiting Michigan and Michigan State. BU has also faced North Dakota and Cornell in addition to Hockey East foes Boston College and Maine. ANYTHING TO WIN The Terriers average blocked shots per game, good for 13th in the country. Senior Garrett Noonan has a team-best 64 blocked shots. TERRIER TIDBITS This season, the Terriers have allowed 10 shorthanded goals - the most in the nation - but are one of only six teams with zero shorthanded goals. Over the previous five seasons, the Terriers had 23 different players record a shorthanded goal BU had 11 regular-season home games during the first half of the season, tying the and squads for the most in program history. In each of the previous four seasons, BU has lost just one game after holding a lead through two periods, but has had three of those losses this season alone. BU has dressed at least eight freshmen in 24 games this season. All nine freshmen played in eight straight contests from Jan Feb. 7. All 21 skaters on the roster played in at least one game on opening weekend. Only four players on BU s roster have more than 10 career goals at the Division I level. The Terriers kicked off the year with a four-game homestand, its longest to open a season in program history. The seven-goal output against Wisconsin was the most by a BU team since a 7-4 win at UMass Lowell on Feb. 17, The Terriers opened the season with their first two-win home weekend against different opponents since they defeated North Dakota and Michigan State to claim the 2008 IceBreaker title at Agganis. BU had been undefeated in 44 straight contests (39-0-5) in which it allowed exactly two goals until its 2-1 setback at Michigan. BU is in its last 43 overtime games. YOUTH STEPPING UP All nine of BU s freshmen have recorded their first collegiate points. Robbie Baillargeon made quite an impression in the victory over Wisconsin with his first three points (1g, 2a) in a BU uniform. Nick Roberto scored the second goal for BU in a victory over Holy Cross. Kevin Duane assisted on the goal and then added one of his own the following weekend against RPI. Tommy Kelley scored the game-winning goal against Massachusetts. Doyle Somerby assisted on BU s lone goal at Michigan State. Dalton MacAfee earned his first collegiate point on Nov. 23 against North Dakota. Brendan Collier got into the scoring column with an assist on Dec. 7 versus Merrimack. On Jan. 8, Dillon Lawrence got his first point with a power-play goal against Harvard. T.J. Ryan became the final member of the group to get on the scoresheet, as the West Newton native scored a third-period goal at BC on Jan. 17. CANADIAN CREASE Dating back to the start of the season, the Terriers have had a Canadian start in goal in each of their past 232 contests. The last American to start in goal for BU was Brett Bennett in the 2008 Hockey East semfinals against Vermont. HOCKEY EAST HONORS Sophomore center Danny O Regan was named the Warrior Hockey Co-Player of the Week by Hockey East on Nov. 4. O Regan played an integral role in the Terriers comeback from a 3-0 deficit against Providence on Nov. 1 by scoring the gametying and game-winning goals. After leading BU to a win and tie against then-no. 14/15 North Dakota, sophomore goaltender Matt O Connor was named the Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week on

5 Nov. 25. O Connor stopped 92 of the 96 shots he faced over the series, including a career-high 55-save performance in a 3-3 draw. On Feb. 3, O Connor was named Hockey East Co-Defensive Player of the Week after turning in an impressive 44-save effort in a 3-3 draw at UMass. IT S BEEN A WHILE For the first time in nearly 20 years, the Terriers faced back-to-back opponents (North Dakota, Cornell) which they had losing alltime records against entering the games. It actually happened twice during the season, most recently when BU took on both Minnesota and Lake Superior State in the 1994 Frozen Four. BU was 0-2 against Lake Superior heading the 1994 title game thanks to a forfeited win in The rarity also happened in November that season, when BU faced Maine and Cornell back-to-back. The Terriers now lead their alltime series with the Black Bears and are an even against the Gophers. USHERING IN A NEW ERA The win over UMass in the season opener kickstarted a new era for the Boston University men s ice hockey program, as it was David Quinn s first regular-season game as head coach of the Terriers. It marked the first time someone other than Parker was the head coach of BU s opening game since Leon Abbott in After 40 years at the helm, legendary coach Jack Parker stepped down last March. Quinn was named head coach on March 26 after spending last season as an assistant coach for the NHL s Colorado Avalanche. As an associate coach at BU from , Quinn helped the tean capture an NCAA title in 2009, four Beanpot titles and two Hockey East tournament championships. VIEW FROM THE TOP BU s season-opening 3-1 victory over Massachusetts was the only Hockey East contest scheduled for October. The Terriers thus remained atop the league standings until Nov. 1, when nine Hockey East teams played their first conference game. BU currently is 10th in the standings. YOUTH MOVEMENT The Terriers welcome 10 newcomers to the roster this season. The nine freshmen and one redshirt sophomore account for 40 percent of the squad. The Terriers only have two juniors on the roster, forwards Cason Hohmann and Evan Rodrigues. 17 of the 24 players on the team are underclassmen. The Terriers have five seniors, including co-captains Garrett Noonan and Patrick MacGregor. BLUE-LINE LEADERSHIP On Oct. 4, Coach Quinn announced that senior defensemen Garrett Noonan and Patrick MacGregor would serve as co-captains for the season. Ironically, this is the first time that the Terriers have had co-captains that were both defensemen since , when Quinn and Tom Ryan - father of BU freshman T.J. Ryan - shared the captaincy. POLL POSITION BU was No. 19 in the USCHO.com Division I Preseason Poll. The Terriers had never been ranked lower to start a season in the 17-year history of the poll. The start pushed the Terriers up to No. 13 in USCHO.com Poll but they dropped out of the rankings after the Nov. 8 loss to BC. COMING FROM THE COMMONWEALTH On this year s BU roster, 13 of the 24 players are from Massachusetts. Just two seasons ago, the Terriers had just five players from Massachusetts. Six of the nine freshmen on the BU roster are Massachusetts natives. Five of the team s seven defensemen are from Massachusetts. LOOKING BACK AT Boston University posted a record of last season and went (31 pts.) in Hockey East play to finish in a three-way tie for third in the league standings. Third-seeded BU advanced to the Hockey East semifinals for the 11th time in 12 seasons after sweeping Merrimack at Agganis. The Terriers topped archrival Boston College, 6-3, in the league semifinals before falling, 1-0, to UMass Lowell in the title game. BU s 21 wins were the most of any team that did not qualify for the NCAA tournament. UMass Lowell was the only Hockey East team that BU went winless against last season. After a combined five wins in January and February, the Terriers reeled off six wins in March, including five straight to reach the Hockey East championship game. Then-sophomore Evan Rodrigues was named a Hockey East Second Team All-Star and Matt Grzelcyk - a Hockey East Honorable Mention All-Star - and Danny O Regan were on the Hockey East All-Rookie Team. The BU team holds the program record for having the most players eventually reach the NHL at 11. Shattenkirk was named to the 2014 U.S. Olympic team and is the 24th player who was coached by Jack Parker at BU to play in the Olympics. HOCKEY AS A CAREER The Terriers have 15 alumni working in NHL front offices, more than any other school in the country. SELECT TERRIERS Former BU head coach Jack Parker led the U.S. Men s Select Team to Deutschland Cup title with a 7-4 win over host Germany on Nov. 10 in Munich. Three former Terriers played for Parker once again, as Peter MacArthur, Chris Connolly and Chris Bourque combined for seven points (1g, 6a) in the tournament. Parker s coaching staff also included two of his former BU assistants - Ben Smith and Mike Bavis. All 21 players on the roster are currently playing in European elite leagues in Finland, Germany, Russia, Sweden and Switzerland. 92ND SEASON The Terriers are in their 92nd season of intercollegiate play and currently hold a (.621) all-time record. BU s 1,454 wins are only surpassed by Minnesota (1,702 wins - 93 seasons) and Michigan (1,606 wins - 92 seasons). For decades, the three programs represented the top three NCAA Division I college hockey conferences in the WCHA (Minnesota), CCHA (Michigan) and Hockey East (BU) until the Big Ten was formed prior to this season. The three schools hold a combined 19 national titles between them. In all, 10 players from the national championship team have reached the

7 DAVID QUINN HEAD COACH BOSTON UNIVERSITY 89 FIRST SEASON Former Boston University associate head coach and Colorado Avalanche assistant David Quinn was named the 11th head coach in the storied history of the Boston University men s ice hockey program on March 26, Quinn, who played at BU from , replaced his former head coach and mentor, Jack Parker, who announced his retirement after 40 seasons at the helm of the Terrier program. An All-Hockey East and All-New England defenseman at BU and a cocaptain during his senior year of , Quinn came back to campus in 2004 to become the team s associate head coach, a role he served in for five seasons. Quinn s recruiting efforts were instrumental in helping build BU s 2009 national championship team. During his time as associate head coach, he worked primarily with the team s defensemen, turning the unit into arguably the best in the nation. All six of the defensemen from the 2009 title squad have reached the National Hockey League. After helping the Terriers reach the pinnacle of college hockey, Quinn left to join the Avalanche organization as the head coach of its American Hockey League affiliate in Cleveland, the Lake Erie Monsters. He compiled a record in three seasons with Lake Erie and guided the Monsters to their first-ever playoff berth in He was named an assistant coach on former BU teammate Joe Sacco s staff at Colorado prior to this season. Quinn s coaching career, which began as an assistant at Northeastern University at 1994, has also been highlighted by several successful stints with USA Hockey. Prior to serving as the Terriers associate head coach, he spent two years as head coach of the Under-17 Team. Playing against older opponents, the U17 team qualified for the North American Hockey League playoffs for only the third time in program history, finishing with a record above.500 for the first time ever. The squad owned a 10-3 record in international play, including a first-place finish at the Four Nations Cup in Magnitogorsk, Russia, and at the Under18 Four Nations Vlado Druzilla in Piestany, Slovakia, where the team played up an age group. For his accomplishments, USA Hockey named Quinn as the 2003 USA Hockey Developmental Coach of the Year. Quinn s coaching career began prematurely, as it was thought he would enjoy an excellent playing career both on the international and professional levels. A member of the U.S. National Junior Team that captured the bronze medal at the 1986 IIHF World Junior Championship, Quinn made himself a strong candidate for the 1988 and 1992 U.S. Olympic Men s Ice Hockey Teams. In addition, he was the 13th player selected in the 1984 NHL Entry Draft when the Minnesota North Stars made him their first-round selection. However, his hopes for an Olympic Team berth and a career in the NHL came to an end prior to his senior year at BU when he was diagnosed with a blood disorder called Christmas Disease that ultimately ended his hockey- playing career. After trying to play two seasons of professional hockey, he took the assistant position at Northeastern, where he was responsible for recruiting, off-ice conditioning, scouting and video coordination. In July 1996, Quinn was named the top assistant coach and head recruiter for the University of Nebraska Omaha. There he helped establish the school s first Division I men s ice hockey program, which began playing during the season. Quinn then joined the USA Hockey National Team Development Program in Ann Arbor, Mich. The program, designed to prepare student-athletes under the age of 18 for participation on U.S. National Teams and to develop their future hockey careers, focuses its efforts on high-caliber participation on the ice and creating well-rounded individuals off the ice. Quinn served as an assistant coach for the U.S. National Team at four IIHF World Championships -- two with the men s team (2007, 2012) and two with the women s squad (1999, 2000). He helped the women earn the silver medal at both tournaments and also served as an on-ice assistant at the 2001 U.S. Women s Olympic Trials and as a boys coach at the 1995 and 1996 USA Hockey Select Festivals. His involvement with the USA Hockey coaching ranks began in 1995, when he served as a member of the coaching staff for the U.S. Women s Select Camp. A native of Cranston, R.I., Quinn earned a bachelor s degree in sociology from BU in 1989.
