ALL-TIME VS. BU Merrimack and BU have met just about every year since the late 1960s; they will be meeting for the 112th and 113th times this weekend. While Merrimack is just all-time against BU, including an record in North Andover and an mark at BU, the Warriors did sweep the season series for the first time ever last winter and they have won three of the last four against BU. Merrimack's sweep of BU last year came when the Terriers were ranked No. 1 nationally; the Warriors also took down a top-ranked BU team back in the 1998 Hockey East playoffs, marking their only wins ever against a team ranked No. 1 in a national poll. BU has not won at Lawler Rink since Jan. 11, 2013, and is in its last four trips. Merrimack snapped an eight-game winless streak on the road against BU last year, moving to all-time at Agganis Arena. MACK FACTS Merrimack is in its last eight games dating back to Dec. 8 after starting The Warriors have just three road wins in 13 tries (3-8-2) compared to at home. Seniors Jace Hennig and Brett Seney lead the team with 20 points; Hennig has a teamhigh eight goals while Seney's 14 helpers are most on the team. Seney Jared Kolquist is the highest-scoring defenseman on the team and ranks third overall with 16 points (4g, 12a); he is fifth in Hockey East in points by defensemen. Six total Warriors have surpassed the 10-point threshold on the year. Four different Warriors have four goals on the power play, which ranks tied for eighth in Hockey East. Seney ranks third with 14 power play points, while Hennig and Kolquist rank tied for sixth with 12 power play points apiece. Goaltender Craig Pantano has earned all of Merrimack s wins this season and has started 16 of the last 17 games; he is with a 2.26 GAA and.918 SV% on the year. TRACKING THE TERRIERS BU enters the weekend at overall with a mark in league play. The Terriers have struggled to find consistency throughout an up-and-down season; after starting 2-0-0, they have not won back-to-back games since then. BU is in its last three with a win at UNH and tie against Providence last weekend. Sophomore Patrick Harper leads seven Terriers who are in double-digit scoring figures. His 21 points are most on the squad, while junior Bobo Carpenter has lit the lamp a team-high 11 times, with five coming on the power play. Sophomore defenseman Chad Krys has dished a team-most 14 assists and is BU's lead scoring d-man ( ). Sophomore Jake Oettinger has started 20 of 22 games for the Terriers and owns a 2.81 goals against average, as well as a.904 save percentage. BU ranks 29th nationally in scoring offense (2.95) and 29th in scoring defense (2.91); their power play ranks 28th (19.8) while their PK ranks 49th (77.8). David Quinn is in his fifth season at BU; he started the year all-time. Faceoff % % NOTES AND NOTABLES LAST FRIDAY AT LAWLER Despite outshooting the visitors by a wide margin through two periods, Merrimack still found itself deadlocked after 40 minutes against UConn last Friday before breaking through with three third-period goals en route to a 3-0 win over the Huskies. Merrimack did just about everything besides light the lamp in a dominant first two periods against UConn that saw it outshot the Huskies by a 30-8 margin. The Warriors would finally break through early in the third with a pair of goals coming in a 47-second span, and then added a late empty-netter to pick up the shutout victory. LAST JANUARY AGAINST THE TERRIERS Merrimack posted its first-ever season series sweep of BU last January, posting a 3-1 win at Lawler Rink before downing the Terriers, 4-1, at Agganis Arena later that week. Making the sweep sweeter was the fact that BU was ranked No. 1 nationally at the time; the Terriers also were riding a nation-best eight-game winning streak before those games. Logan Coomes helped snap a 1-1 tie late in the second and Hampus Gustafsson added an insurance power play goal to give the Warriors the win in Game 1 at home. Two nights later, Brett Seney's game-winner came in the second period before a pair of Michael Babcock goals in the third clinched a 4-1 win. Collin Delia stopped 67-of-69 shots on the week in net. BEST AGAINST BU Merrimack's senior class has gone in their careers against BU, including a mark at Lawler Rink. Four players -- all seniors -- have four points over that span against BU, while Brett Seney has a team-most four goals and classmate Jared Kolquist has dished a team-high four assists. No goaltender on the roster has ever faced BU. LARSSONY Junior Ludvig Larsson has points in three straight games, marking his second straight three-game point streak this year. Larsson also has already lit the lamp a career-high seven times this year, tying his total from last season. His 15 points in 21 games are one shy of his total from last year in 30 games. COLE CAN Sophomore Cole McBride is also riding a three-game point streak and has at least a point in five of the last seven games. The first-year Warrior had three points in his first 11 games prior to this run. He ranks seventh on the team in scoring. MINIMAL After being held to a season-low 12 shots at Providence on Jan. 6, Merrimack flipped the script by limiting UConn to a meager 16 shots on net in last Friday's win at home. Those 16 shots were the fewest for an opponent since Northern Michigan had just 14 in a 4-2 Merrimack win on Dec. 29,2016. FIRST IS THE WORST? Merrimack is in the first of back-to-back games in every weekend series it has played this year. Merrimack has scored the game s first goal in just nine of its 22 games played and is when scoring first. Merrimack is also when leading after the first period this year; in the three previous seasons, the Warriors were when leading after 20 minutes, including last year. Over the last four years combined, Merrimack is (.755) 2

AGAINST THE LEAGUE Merrimack has gone in Hockey East play this year and has been outscored by a margin in league play (-8). Merrimack has won only one season series so far (UConn). Jace Hennig (5g, 6a) and Ludvig Larsson (5g, 6a) lead Merrimack with 11 points in 13 league games, with Larsson and senior Jared Kolquist boasting three power play goals. Craig Pantano is with a 2.44 goals against average and.912 save percentage in 11 starts against league foes. NO SHORT JOKES Merrimack has not allowed a shorthanded goal all season. The Warriors are one of 14 Division I schools to have not yielded a shorthanded tally and one of three in Hockey East. PRETTY POWERFUL Merrimack s power play started the year with several long slumps (1-for-16, 1-for-21) before righting the ship on Nov. 10. Since then, the Warrior power play ranks fifth nationally at 26.9 percent (14-for-52). Overall on the year, the Warriors rank 16th nationally (21.1). Individually, Merrimack boasts three of the conference s top six most-productive power play scorers, with Brett Seney ranked third with 14 power play points followed by classmates Jared Kolquist and Jace Hennig (12). LOOKING FOR A RALLY Merrimack is when the opponent scores first this year. Since the start of the season, the Warriors have conceded the game s first goal in 80 games and have just 14 wins in those games ( ,.244 winning percentage). Merrimack is also when trailing after the first period and when down after 40 minutes this season. That win came last Friday at UConn, which represented Merrimack's first win when trailing after two periods since a 4-3 overtime win against Maine on Feb. 17, 2017 at home. THREE OR NOTHING Three has been the magic number in terms of Merrimack goals needed to win games over the last five years. This year, Merrimack has been held to two goals or fewer in 13 of 22 games and is winless (0-11-2) when that occurs compared to when lighting the lamp three-plus times. Over the last four seasons, Merrimack is (.868) when scoring 3+ goals, compared to (.187) when being held to two goals or fewer. Merrimack s last loss when scoring three goals or more was a 6-3 setback at Boston College on Feb. 12, ROAD WOES Merrimack is just away from Lawler Rink this year. Merrimack has finished with a losing road record in five straight seasons. They were on the road in Merrimack has one more goal (27) in nine home games than it does in 13 road games (26). However, the Warriors are in their last four road games. NO SENIOR-ITIS HERE The senior class has dominated the scoring so far this year, as their 68 points are 24 more than the next-closest class. Merrimack seniors rank 10th nationally in total scoring. The team s three lead scorers are all seniors, as well. 3

4 MERRIMACK COLLEGE MEN S ICE HOCKEY HAPPY 100TH! Senior Brett Seney became the 24th player in the program's Division I history to reach 100 career points earlier this year and the first to do so since Mike Collins '14. Seney hit the century mark in 120 career contests, averaging just under a point per game for his career to that point (0.83). He now ranks 14th nationally in scoring among all active players nationwide and in the top-50 in all-time program history. POINTS FROM THE POINT Senior Jared Kolquist (4g, 12a) has been among the productive blueliners -- and overall scorers -- on the team. Kolquist ranks fifth in Hockey East in points by defensemen (16) and sixth in power play points (12), while nationally he ranks 23rd in points per game from blueliners (0.73). A LITTLE LEAKY Often ranked among the top third nationwide in scoring defense, this year s Merrimack squad has allowed three or more goals 11 times in 22 games, and the team currently ranks 29th nationally in scoring defense (2.91). Merrimack allowed seven goals on Oct. 21 at Minnesota Duluth, marking the first time it has allowed seven-plus goals since a 7-2 loss at Notre Dame on Jan. 15, KILLER INSTINCT? Merrimack has allowed at least one power play goal in all but seven games and ranks 56th nationally (76.1%). At one point, the team allowed a power play goal in seven straight games. The longest streak it has had this year without giving up a power play goal has been nine straight penalties. TIMING TIDBITS Merrimack has been outscored by a 24-9 margin in the second period and ranks last nationally in second-period goals. Merrimack has led in 385:35 of the 1340:13 it has played this year, or in percent of game time. NOT ENOUGH DROPS While it's true Merrimack ranks in the bottom third of the country in shots on goal (44th, 28.32), the Warriors also rank just 49th nationally with a shooting percentage of 8.5 percent. That isn t exactly news for the team, either, as the prior five seasons have seen the Warriors struggle in that category on a national scale, no higher than 48th and as low as 57th. MR. CLUTCH Brett Seney represents Merrimack s most clutch player with 11 career game-winning goals, the most on the roster. Among all active players nationwide, Seney is tied for second: Jarid Lukosevicius, Denver 12 Landon Smith, Quinnipiac 12 Brett Seney, Merrimack 11 Nolan Stevens, Northeastern - 11 Ryan Schmelzer, Canisus - 11 A SURE THING Since the season, Merrimack is when holding a lead after two periods of play. The last time the team squandered a two-period lead and lost was on Nov. 30, 2013, at Yale; in that game, Merrimack had a 1-0 lead after 40 minutes before falling in overtime, 3-2. NO OFFENSE, BUT... 10 MERRIMACK COLLEGE MEN S ICE HOCKEY MARK DENNEHY Head Coach 13th Season The and All-New England Coach of the Year, Mark Dennehy is in his 13th season at Merrimack team in In his more-than decade on campus, Dennehy has completely rebuilt the brand of Merrimack Warrior Hockey, elevating the program from an era that saw it struggle from a competitive standpoint into a Hockey East contender year in and year out The last two seasons have been some of Dennehy s most masterful behind the bench, as he and his coaching staff have led Merrimack to back-to-back seventh-place finishes in the league standings, which resulted in the Warriors earning home ice in the first round of the Hockey East Tournament in successive seasons. Merrimack has never hosted playoff series in back-to-back years since joining Hockey East prior to this recent run. Following an up-and-down first half of the season, Dennehy helped right the ship in the second half thanks to a historic eight-game unbeaten streak -- the second-longest such streak in the Division I era -- that propelled the Warriors to their eventual seventh-place finish in the league standings. Along the way, Merrimack made history with a series sweep of then-top-ranked Boston University, marking the first time ever that the Warriors swept BU in any regular season series in addition to their back-to-back topplings of a No. 1-ranked team. Shortly afterward, the Warriors secured a series victory against Boston College after defeating the Eagles on the road for the first time in nearly 20. Altogether, Merrimack secured series victories over both BC and BU for the first time ever as part of that impressive eight-game unbeaten streak last winter. Dennehy helped guide the Warriors to victories against four teams that eventually played in last year s NCAA Tournament, including eventual NCAA Frozen Four participant Notre Dame, as well as BU, Cornell and Providence. Merrimack also toppled perennial power Wisconsin on the road for the first time in school history, as well. The team finished overall on the season, with an mark in league play, marking their highest win total in Hockey East in four years. Dennehy also saw a number of accolades for his student-athletes at the conclusion of , with goaltender Collin Delia earning a spot on the Hockey East All-Star Third Team; he also earned All- New England accolades, while 2017 graduate Hampus Gustafsson was named the recipient of the Joe Tomasello Unsung Hero Award. Gustafsson was also named the program s first All-American in four years after earning CoSIDA Academic All-America Third Team honors. Delia, meanwhile, signed a professional contract with the Chicago Blackhawks in the summer of 2017; he was also named a finalist for the presitgious Hockey Humanitarian Award. In , Dennehy s efforts helped the team start and finish the season strong en route to posting its highest finish in the league standings (seventh) in three years. Merrimack also advanced to the quarterfinal round of the Hockey East Tournament for the second year in a row and 20th time in school history. In , Dennehy led a team that was comprised of 10 freshmen to an eight-win improvement from the previous season. Merrimack soared out of the gate, posting a record in its first 17 games to account for the team s best record at the end of the first half since With 10 wins in 15 tries, Dennehy also led Merrimack to its second-quickest start to a 10-win season since joining Hockey East. Dennehy reached the 100-win milestone during the campaign, one that saw the Warriors contend from start to finish and was highlighted by the team occupying first place in Hockey East the latest into a season since the Warriors joined the conference. In , Dennehy s squad claimed yet another piece of history after earning its first-ever No. 1 national ranking in school history thanks to a start to the year. Merrimack was also ranked nationally every week for the first time ever, including an appearance in the top 10-for a span of 17 straight weeks. After falling in three games in the Hockey East Quarterfinals, Merrimack narrowly missed a second consecutive berth in the NCAA Tournament. The highlight of Dennehy s coaching career with the Warriors came in , when Merrimack reached the NCAA Tournament for the first time since while setting a Division I school record with 25 wins and reaching the Hockey East Championship for the first time ever. The Co-Hockey East Coach of the Year, Dennehy saw the fruits of his labors become a reality that winter as the Warriors won a then-division I program-record 16 games and qualified for the Hockey East Tournament for the first time since Hockey East expanded to 10 schools. After finishing sixth in the regular season, Merrimack then proceeded to win a playoff game for the first time since 1998 and defeated every Hockey East team at home and overall for the first time in the program s history. Heralded as one of the top recruiters in the country, Dennehy and his staff s efforts have gained nationwide respect and have kept Merrimack a perennially competitive member of Hockey East. In the classroom, Dennehy s student-athletes rank among the best in Hockey East, and no other school has come close in recent years. In , Merrimack once again led Hockey East with 21 All-Academic selections, marking the fourth straight season and the sixth time in the last nine years that the school topped Hockey East in all-academic picks. The team saw three players earn Top Scholar-Athlete honors -- the fourth straight season with at least one such accolade -- while 2017 graduate Hampus Gustafsson became the first player in league history to finish his career with a perfect 4.0 GPA and was the first student-athlete ever to earn Top Scholar-Athlete honors all four years. In the summer of 2017, Dennehy was on the coaching staff for the United States Under-17 Select Team, which claimed gold at the Five Nations Tournament in Ostrava, Czech Republic.
