3 MOVING UP THE CHARTS Danny O Regan currently has 127 career points. Northeastern s Kevin Roy (129) is the only active player in the country with more. If O Regan duplicates his 50-point season from a year ago, he will finish his career tied for 13th on BU s all-time scoring list. He needs 23 more points to become BU s top point-scorer since LEAGUE HONORS Freshman Jakob Forsbacka Karlsson and sophomore Connor LaCouvee were named the Hockey East Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Week and the Hockey East Co-Defensive Player of the Week, respectively, on Nov. 16. Forsbacka Karlsson had a hand in all four BU goals (2g, 2a) during the home-and-home series with Providence. LaCouvee made 32 saves in each contest. These were the first Hockey East weekly honors for both players. GRIZZLED VETERAN Matt Grzelcyk had 38 points (10g, 28a) as a junior, the third-most in a season by a BU defenseman in the past 20 years. Chris O Sullivan has had the most in that span with 47 ( ). Amongst blueliners, Grzelcyk ranked first nationally in plus-minus (+32) and fourth in points per game (0.93). PRESEASON HONORS Seniors Danny O Regan and Matt Grzelcyk were named to CHN s Preseason All-America Second Team. BRING ON THE BEST The Terriers are undefeated in their past four contests (2-0-2) against teams ranked No. 1 in the country following the two ties with Providence on Nov Prior to that, BU defeated then-no. 1 North Dakota in last season s Frozen Four semifinal. Before that, BU faced off against the nation s top-ranked team in three straight games during the season, splitting a home-and-home weekend with BC before defeating UNH the following weekend. BU BLANKS BENTLEY Senior goaltender Sean Maguire stopped all 15 shots he saw and three different Terriers had two points apiece to lead Boston University to a 3-0 win over Bentley on Nov. 24 at Agganis. Senior Danny O Regan s first-period marker stood as the game-winner while junior Doyle Somerby and freshman Jakob Forsbacka Karlsson also lit the lamp. Somerby and O Regan each had a helper as well, and sophomore Brandon Hickey had a pair of assists. Freshman Ryan Cloonan and senior Ahti Oksanen had the primary helper on the first two goals. BU scored in all three periods and Maguire was perfect in all three frames, keeping Bentley scoreless for the first time this season. Nine of his saves came in the final 20 minutes, with the Terrier penalty killers negating 1:37 of 5-on-3 power-play time during the third period. The Terriers held a shot advantage and scored on one of their three power-play opportunities. The penalties on the 5-on-3 were the only ones BU took on the night. Senior Gabe Antoni made 44 saves in goal for the Falcons. TERRIERS SPLIT WITH WOLVERINES Junior Doyle Somerby scored with 2:54 left in regulation to cap a furious rally and lift Boston University to a 3-2 victory over then-no. 12 Michigan on Nov. 20 at Agganis Arena. The following night, a three-goal opening period by the visiting Wolverines proved to be too much to overcome, as the Terriers dropped a 4-2 contest. BU had a six-game unbeaten streak (4-0-2) snapped with Saturday s result. Down 2-0 after 50 minutes of play on Friday, the Terriers tied it up in an instant with goals by senior Danny O Regan and junior Robbie Baillargeon just 12 seconds apart. Sophomore goaltender Connor LaCouvee made 26 saves, none bigger than a stop on a penalty shot by Michigan s Tyler Motte less than a minute after BU made it a 2-2 game. The Terriers held a shot advantage, including a 14-4 edge in the third, as Steve Racine turned in a 28-save effort for the Wolverines. On Saturday, seniors Matt Lane and Ahti Oksanen scored goals for BU and LaCouvee turned a 34-save effort. After allowing three goals, including two on the power play, in the opening period, BU got on the board with just 2:23 left in the second when Oksanen found Lane with a diagonal pass through the neutral zone. Lane skated in all alone through the right circle before beating Michigan netminder Steve Racine at the crease. Michigan added an insurance goal at 16:32 of the third before Oksanen made it a 4-2 final on a shot from the high slot in the closing seconds. TWO-DRAW WEEKEND WITH PROVIDENCE Boston University earned two draws in a weekend home-and-home series against topranked Providence on Nov Senior Ahti Oksanen scored an extra-attacker goal with 1:29 left in regulation to help BU earn a 1-1 draw in Providence on Friday. Freshman Jakob Forsbacka Karlsson scored two goals and added an assist - all in the third period - in a 3-3 tie on Saturday at Agganis Arena. Sophomore goaltender Connor LaCouvee stopped 64 of 68 shots over the two games and stretched his unbeaten streak to five games (3-0-2). After neither team scored in the first 33 minutes of regulation on Friday, PC s Mark Jankowski scored off a power play. The Terriers had to kill off seven minutes worth of penalties in the third (a full 5-on-3 advantage and a five-minute major penalty). The Terriers loss to UNH on Feb. 14 was their lone road loss in Hockey Easy play, as they went in opposing rinks. CANADIAN CREASE Dating back to the start of the season, the Terriers have had a Canadian start in goal in each of their past 290 contests. The last American to start in goal for BU was Brett Bennett in the 2008 Hockey East semfinals against Vermont. MAGUIRE RETURNS After missing last season due to injury, Sean Maguire is back in the BU crease. He made 35 starts during his first two seasons, compiling a.923 save percentage and a 2.69 goals-against average. His.919 save percentage ranks third all-time at BU. John Curry (.923) holds the record. The Pittsburgh Penguins draft pick has four career shutouts. POLL POSITION In the USCHO.com Division I preseason poll, BU was third, its highest spot in the season-opening poll in six years. The Terriers came in at No. 2 in the first USA Today/USA Hockey poll of the year. BU was picked second in the Hockey East Preseason Coaches Poll. NHL HOPEFULS Ten of the Terriers on this year s roster have been chosen by a professional team in the National Hockey League Entry Draft. The ten players have their rights owned by eight different clubs: Robbie Baillargeon (Ottawa, 2012) Jakob Forsbacka Karlsson (Boston, 2015) Jordan Greenway (Minnesota, 2015) A.J. Greer (Colorado, 2015) Matt Grzelcyk (Boston, 2012) Brandon Hickey (Calgary, 2014) John MacLeod (Tampa Bay, 2014) Sean Maguire (Pittsburgh, 2012) Danny O Regan (San Jose, 2012) Doyle Somerby (N.Y. Islanders, 2012) PRO PIPELINE Thirteen former Terriers have played in the NHL this season: Nick Bonino (Pittsburgh) Alex Chiasson (Ottawa) Adam Clendening (Pittsburgh) Charlie Coyle (Minnesota) Jack Eichel (Buffalo) Eric Gryba (Edmonton) John McCarthy (San Jose) Matt Nieto (San Jose) Matt O Connor (Ottawa) Kevin Shattenkirk (St. Louis) Brian Strait (N.Y. Islanders) David Warsofsky (Pittsburgh) Colin Wilson (Nashville) Five others took part in NHL preseason training camps and are currently on AHL or ECHL rosters: Chris Bourque (Washington) Wade Megan (Florida) Max Nicastro (Toronto) Garrett Noonan (Nashville) Evan Rodrigues (Buffalo) Warsofsky was called up to Pittsburgh on Nov. 19, giving the Penguins three Terriers on their roster. McCarthy was called up to the San Jose Sharks and made his season debut on Oct. 24. In all, 10 players from the national championship team have reached the NHL (Bonino, Colby Cohen, Matt Gilroy, Gryba, Mc- Carthy, Shattenkirk, Strait, Warsofsky, Wilson, Brandon Yip) The BU team holds the program record for having the most players eventually reach the NHL at 11. O CAPTAIN, MY CAPTAIN Senior Matt Grzelcyk is serving as team captain for the second consecutive year. He is the first Terrier to serve as the lone captain of the squad in back-to-back seasons since Paul Bergholtz in Grzelcyk was the first BU captain from the city limits of Boston since Dorchester s Mark Mullen in Senior forwards Matt Lane and Danny O Regan are this year s assistant captains. HOCKEY AS A CAREER The Terriers have 17 alumni working in NHL front offices, more than any other school in the country. 94th SEASON The Terriers are in their 94th season of intercollegiate play and currently hold a (.623) all-time record. BU s 1,492 wins are only surpassed by Minnesota (1,739 wins - 94 seasons) and Michigan (1,638 wins - 93 seasons). For decades, the three programs represented the top three NCAA Division I college hockey conferences in the WCHA (Minnesota), CCHA (Michigan) and Hockey East (BU) until the Big Ten was formed prior to this season. The three schools hold a combined 19 national titles between them. WELCOME BACK Former BU co-captain and All-America defenseman Chris Dyment returned to the program last month to become the Director of Hockey Operations. Dyment spent the past two seasons as head coach of the New Hampshire Jr. Monarchs of the USPHL.

7 DAVID QUINN HEAD COACH BOSTON UNIVERSITY 89 THIRD SEASON Career Record: After orchestrating the biggest turnaround in Boston University hockey history in , including Hockey East and Beanpot titles and a spot in the national title game, David Quinn enters his third season as the head coach at his alma mater. Last season, the Terriers enjoyed an 18-win improvement from the campaign, marking the fifth-best turnaround in NCAA men s hockey history. BU posted a record with the.744 winning percentage ranking second in the country. After leading BU to its 30th Beanpot crown, Quinn guided the Terriers to the Hockey East regular-season and tournament titles before earning the No. 3 overall seed in the NCAA tournament. Quinn became just the fourth men s coach ever to win his first three NCAA tournament games, as the Terriers won the NCAA Northeast Regional before defeating top-ranked North Dakota in the Frozen Four to reach the NCAA title game. He was named runner-up for the Spencer Penrose Award, given annually to the top Division I coach in the nation, and was selected as both the Hockey East and New England Coach of the Year. The former BU associate head coach and Colorado Avalanche assistant was named the 11th head coach in the storied history of BU hockey on March 26, Since returning to campus, Quinn and his staff have strengthened the future of the program by securing commitments from some of the very best prospects in North America. Quinn, who played at BU from , replaced his former head coach and mentor, Jack Parker. An All-Hockey East and All-New England defenseman at BU and a co-captain during his senior year of , Quinn came back to campus in 2004 to become the team s associate head coach, a role he served in for five seasons. Quinn s recruiting efforts were instrumental in helping build BU s 2009 national championship team. During his time as associate head coach, he worked primarily with the team s defensemen, turning the unit into arguably the best in the nation. All six of the defensemen from the 2009 title squad have reached the National Hockey League. After helping the Terriers reach the pinnacle of college hockey, Quinn left to join the Avalanche organization as the head coach of its American Hockey League affiliate in Cleveland, the Lake Erie Monsters. He compiled a record in three seasons with Lake Erie and guided the Monsters to their first-ever playoff berth in He was named an assistant coach on former BU teammate Joe Sacco s staff at Colorado prior to this season. Quinn s coaching career, which began as an assistant at Northeastern University at 1994, has also been highlighted by several successful stints with USA Hockey. Prior to serving as the Terriers associate head coach, he spent two years as head coach of the Under-17 Team. Playing against older opponents, the U17 team qualified for the North American Hockey League playoffs for only the third time in program history, finishing with a record above.500 for the first time ever. The squad owned a 10-3 record in international play, including a first-place finish at the Four Nations Cup in Magnitogorsk, Russia, and at the Under-18 Four Nations Vlado Druzilla in Piestany, Slovakia, where the team played up an age group. For his accomplishments, USA Hockey named Quinn as the 2003 USA Hockey Developmental Coach of the Year. Quinn s coaching career began prematurely, as it was thought he would enjoy an excellent playing career both on the international and professional levels. A member of the U.S. National Junior Team that captured the bronze medal at the 1986 IIHF World Junior Championship, Quinn made himself a strong candidate for the 1988 and 1992 U.S. Olympic Men s Ice Hockey Teams. In addition, he was the 13th player selected in the 1984 NHL Entry Draft when the Minnesota North Stars made him their first-round selection. However, his hopes for an Olympic Team berth and a career in the NHL came to an end prior to his senior year at BU when he was diagnosed with a blood disorder called Christmas Disease that ultimately ended his hockey-playing career. After trying to play two seasons of professional hockey, he took the assistant position at Northeastern, where he was responsible for recruiting, off-ice conditioning, scouting and video coordination. In July 1996, Quinn was named the top assistant coach and head recruiter for the University of Nebraska Omaha. There he helped establish the school s first Division I men s ice hockey program, which began playing during the season. Quinn then joined the USA Hockey National Team Development Program in Ann Arbor, Mich. The program, designed to prepare student-athletes under the age of 18 for participation on U.S. National Teams and to develop their future hockey careers, focuses its efforts on high-caliber participation on the ice and creating well-rounded individuals off the ice. Quinn served as an assistant coach for the U.S. National Team at four IIHF World Championships -- two with the men s team (2007, 2012) and two with the women s squad (1999, 2000). He helped the women earn the silver medal at both tournaments and also served as an on-ice assistant at the 2001 U.S. Women s Olympic Trials and as a boys coach at the 1995 and 1996 USA Hockey Select Festivals. His involvement with the USA Hockey coaching ranks began in 1995, when he served as a member of the coaching staff for the U.S. Women s Select Camp. A native of Cranston, R.I., Quinn earned a bachelor s degree in sociology from BU in 1989.
