Senior Andrew Hammond turned away 26-of-28 shots in the loss. The Falcons were held scoreless on two power play chances, while Lake Superior was held to 0-for-3 with the man advantage. The Falcons defeated Lake Superior Saturday night, dropping the Lakers by a score of 6-3 to push the series to a decisive third game. Ryan Peltoma, Cam Wojtala, Bryce Williamson and Ryan Carpenter all scored for the Falcons, with Carpenter netting two on the evening. Senior goaltender Andrew Hammond turned away 21-of-24 shots in the win, including five on the penalty kill. Bowling Green was held scoreless on the power play for the third-straight game, going 0-for-4 on the night. The Lakers fared better with the man advantage, going 2-for-6 in the game. The Orange and Brown defeated Lake Superior Sunday night, advancing to the second round of the CCHA Playoffs with a 7-0 victory. Cam Wojtala, Ryan Carpenter, Marc Rodriguez, Ralfs Freibergs and Adam Berkle each scored once for the Falcons, while Dan DeSalvo added two goals on the night. Senior goaltender Andrew Hammond stopped all 23 shots he faced in the contest. Hammy s Shutouts Andrew Hammond stopped all 23 shots he faced Sunday night, marking his third shutout of the season and seventh of his career. Hammond s shut out win ties him with Tyler Masters (99-03) as Bowling Green s all-time leader in career shutouts. Hammond s three shutouts this season also tie Master s season record (3). Hammond s shutout also marked the first postseason shutout for the Falcons since 2011, when Hammond shut out Northern Michigan, 2-0, on March 5 in the first round of the CCHA Playoffs. Welcome Back Carpenter Sophomore Ryan Carpenter picked up three points in the Falcons 6-3 victory on Saturday, snapping his three-game point drought. Carpenter s three-point night marked a season high, tying his career-best set twice last season. Carpenter s two goals also tied a career high, set last season in a 3-2 win over Notre Dame on Feb. 4, Carpenter recorded two points in the Falcons 7-0 win Sunday night, giving him five points in the three-game series to lead all Falcons. A Big Night For Danny Sophomore Dan DeSalvo got back on the score sheet Sunday night, scoring two goals and adding an assist in the Falcons 7-0 win. DeSalvo s three-point night ties a season high, set back in the Falcons 4-3 loss to Ferris State on Nov. 16. DeSalvo now has 20 assists this season, marking the first Falcon to record 20 assists in a season since Dan Sexton during the campaign, when he registered 22. DeSalvo s two-goal output is also a season high, marking his first multi-goal game since March 11, when he scored a hat trick against Ferris State. Welcome To The Nest Freshman defenseman Ralfs Freibergs also had a big game against Lake Superior Sunday night, scoring a goal and adding two assists, setting a new career high for points in a game. Murphy s twopoint night marked his second of the season, tying his career high. Murphy s only other multi-point game came back on Feb. 23 in the Falcons 5-3 win over Northern Michigan. Rodriguez Back On The Board Senior Marc Rodriguez aided in Bowling Green s 7-0 win Sunday night, scoring the Falcons fourth goal of the game. Rodriguez s goal marked his third of the season, and first since Bowling Green s 5-1 win over Michigan on Jan. 5. Seven Goals The Falcons put up seven goals against Lake Superior Sunday night, marking the most they ve scored in a playoff game since March 8, 1997, an 8-4 win over Lake Superior. The Falcons scored 13 goals in that series (two games), matching their total from this past weekend. Wojtala Makes His Mark Junior Cam Wojtala scored a goal and added an assist in the Falcons 6-3 win Saturday night, setting a season high. Prior to Saturday, Wojtala s last multi-point game came in the Falcons 3-2 win over Ferris State (3/9/12) in the CCHA Playoffs last season. Wojtala added a goal against Lake Superior Sunday night, giving him a goal in back-to-back games for the first time this season. Wojtala s last two-game scoring streak came last season, when he scored against Ohio State on Jan. 8 and Alaska on Jan. 20. Still Closing Strong The Falcons went into the third period with a lead Saturday night against the Lakers, eventually coming out with the 6-3 win. The Falcons are undefeated this season when entering the third period with a lead, going on the year. Bowling Green s last loss while heading into the third period with a lead came last year in the CCHA Semifinals, a 3-2 loss to Michigan on March 16, Seven Games The Falcons have done a great job in generating shots as of late, outshooting their opponents in eight-straight games. The last time the Falcons didn t outshoot their opponent was on Feb. 15, a 2-1 win at Ferris State. Bowling Green is now when outshooting its opponent this season. Playoff Win The Falcons defeated the Lakers Sunday, marking their first playoff series win over Lake Superior since , when they defeated the Lakers in a best-of-three series at the BGSU Ice Arena. The win marks the Falcons first playoff series win in Sault Ste. Marie since 2000, when they swept the Lakers in the first round. Small Work Load Senior goaltender Andrew Hammond made 23 saves in the BG win Sunday night, marking the sixth game in a row that he has made 30 saves or less in a game. Hammond s last game with 30 saves or more came back on Jan. 26, a 3-1 loss to Miami in Oxford. Looking At Notre Dame The Falcons went against Notre Dame this season, most recently falling to the Fighting Irish in two-straight games in South Bend. Notre Dame has outscored the Falcons, 14-9, over that four-game stretch, including seven goals in just 13 opportunities on the power play. Chris Bergeron Head Coach Head coach Chris Bergeron completed his second season at the helm of the Orange and Brown in , leading the Falcons to a overall record, including a mark of in conference play. While the overall record may not be flashy, the program saw steady improvement throughout the season, culminating in four postseason wins and a record in the final 10 contests, with a victory over then-no. 3 Michigan. The team also recorded backto-back shootout victories over then-no. 2 Ohio State in the latter stages of the season. Bergeron was named the Falcons seventh head coach in program history on April 12, 2010 and has posted an overall record of in his first two years. Under Bergeron s leadership, Bowling Green completed two CCHA Tournament upsets on the road last year, defeating Northern Michigan and national runner-up Ferris State in best two-out-of-three series to become the first No. 11 seed to ever reach the CCHA semifinals. The Falcons appearance at Joe Louis Arena marked their first trip to the CCHA semifinals in eleven years ( ). Bergeron also saw two of his players earn conference honors last season, including Player of the Week (Andrew Hammond) and Rookie of the Week (Ryan Carpenter) twice. Bergeron played at Miami from and was a two-year team captain, leading the team to its first CCHA Championship in program history as a senior. During that season, Bergeron scored a teamhigh 61 points on 21 goals and 40 assists. Along with his offensive achievements that year, the four-year letterwinner was named the CCHA s Best Defensive Forward as well as Miami s Most Outstanding Senior. He then spent seven years playing professionally before returning to Miami as an assistant coach. During that time, he played with the Adirondack Red Wings (AHL), the Birmingham Bulls (ECHL), the Toledo Storm (ECHL), the Cincinnati Cyclones (IHL) and the Columbus Cottonmouths (CHL), being named a league all-star four times. He also has coaching experience at the professional level, having served as a player/assistant coach with the Port Huron Bordercats of the United Hockey League for two seasons. Sophomores Ryan Carpenter and Dan DeSalvo each have three points against the Irish this season, including a teambest two goals from Carpenter. Senior Andrew Hammond went against Notre Dame this season, carrying an 88.3 save percentage and a 3.14 goals against average. Freshman Tommy Burke is 1-0 against ND, recording a.727 save percentage and a 7.13 goals against average in just 25:14 minutes of play. Carpenter leads all Falcons on the current roster with eight points (4G and 4A) against the Fighting Irish. Hammond owns a record against the Fighting Irish, earning his first career win against ND in their final meeting of Hammond has allowed 23 goals in 504:53 minutes played, stopping 209 shots for a.901 save percentage and a 2.73 goals against average. Mr. March After scoring two goals in the Falcons first-round playoff series win at Lake Superior, sophomore forward Dan De- Salvo has 12 goals in 11 career playoff games. He has seven goals in 63 career regular-season games. Playoff Matchup This is the first time that Bowling Green has played Notre Dame in CCHA postseason play since the season when Bowling Green swept the Irish in Ohio with 7-2 and 5-4 wins. The two teams have played a total of five CCHA postseason games with the Falcons holding a 4-1 advantage. All-Time Notre Dame and Bowling Green have met a total of 103 times in the all-time series with the Irish holding a edge. At Notre Dame, the Irish are versus the Falcons. Bowling Green s last road win came last season when the Falcons took a 3-2 win on Feb. 4, 2012 at the Compton Family Ice Arena where the Irish are in four meetings. 60 And Beyond Sophomore Ryan Carpenter continues to reach milestones this season, reaching the 60-point plateau this past weekend against Lake Superior on March 9. Carpenter s 63 career points lead all Falcons on the current roster, with Cam Wojtala ranking second with 55 career points. Carpenter is the first Falcon to pass the 60-point plateau since David Solway in Solway is also the last Falcon to pass 70-career points, finishing his career with 73 points in 146 games played. Career Highs The Falcons have had a solid offensive year, scoring 97 goals in 39 games this season, ranking sixth in the CCHA in goals-per-game (2.49). The Falcons scored a total of 85 goals last season, reaching that mark in 44 games. That goal increase has resulted in several Falcons reaching a new high in season scoring, with several players fast approaching a new season high in points. Sophomores Adam Berkle and Dan DeSalvo are currently tied with their season point totals from a year ago, DeSalvo recording 25 and Berkle recording 21. The last time Bowling Green scored 100 goals in a season was , when the Orange and Brown put up 106 in 40 games. Under coach Bergeron, the Falcons have increased in goal scoring every season, scoring 74, 85 and 97 goals respectively. 20 Points Senior Bobby Shea recorded his 20th point of the season against Lake Superior over the weekend, giving him four goals and 16 assists on the year. Shea is the first Falcon defenseman to record 20 points in a season since the season, when Kevin Schmidt netted four goals and added 21 assists for a 25-point campaign. 3

The next night, the Falcons eliminate the Irish and advance to Joe Louis Arena for the CCHA Finals. Wansbrough scores a school-record seven goals in the series. Aside from the events on the ice during Saturday s game, BG fans pay a heart-warming tribute to UND s hockey program which (at the time) was playing its last game as a school-sponsored varsity sport. With less than four minutes to play, BG s legendary Section A lets go a cheer to the Irish and their followers: Hey Notre Dame. We ll miss you and we salute you! BG s fans then give the Fighting Irish a lengthy standing ovation and later, at the game s close, stand as one again and sing (hum) the UND fight song. 3/24/84 -- In the longest NCAA title game ever played, the Falcons land their only national championship with a 5-4 quadruple overtime conquest over Minnesota-Duluth as winger Gino Cavallini converts a pass from Dan Kane at the 97:11 mark of the contest. John Samanski sends the game into OT as he capitalizes on an opportunistic carom off the boards and stuffs home the tying goal with only 1:47 to play in regulation. The game is marked by the outstanding goaltending of Gary Kruzich (32 saves), the tournament MVP, and UMD s Rick Kosti (tourney record 55 saves). 3/4/12 -- The Falcons repeat history, defeating NMU in the first round of the CCHA Playoffs for the second straight season as the 11th seed, becoming only the second team to do so. 3/11/12 -- Bowling Green does the impossible, defeating No. 2 ranked Ferris State (No. 1 In The CCHA Tournament) on the road in game three of the second round CCHA Playoff series. Freshman Dan DeSalvo records a hat trick in the contest, scoring his third goal in the first overtime to send the Falcons to the CCHA Semifinals at Joe Louis Arena. The visit marked the Falcons first trip to the Joe in 11 years, and was the first time in the history of the conference that an 11th seed made it to the final four. Shutout Numbers Andrew Hammond s shut out win against Lake Superior (3/10/12) ties him with Tyler Masters (99-03) as Bowling Green s all-time leader in career shutouts (7). Bowling Green s 3-0 win against the Purple Eagles earlier this season marked the first time since Feb. 3, 2006 (Jon Horrell) that the Falcons shut out a nonconference opponent at home. Prior to the 3-0 win against Niagara, Bowling Green s most recent shut out win at home came back on Feb. 21, 2009, a 19-save effort from Jimmy Spratt in a 4-0 win over Michigan State. CCHA Honors Senior Bobby Shea earned CCHA Defenseman of The Week honors on Feb. 3, marking the fourth conference weekly honor given to Bowling Green this season. Andrew Hammond was named the CCHA Goaltender Of The Week on Jan. 3, while freshman goaltender Tommy Burke was named rookie of the week at the end of October. Shea was named defenseman of the week earlier this season on Dec. 10th. Bowling Green earned three weekly conference honors total last season. Ranked Bowling Green s win against No. 17 Niagara marked the first ranked opponent that the Falcons defeated this year. Bowling Green s last win against a ranked opponent on the road came in the CCHA Playoffs last season, when the Falcons defeated No. 2 Ferris State, 4-3, on March 11, The most recent Falcon victory against a ranked opponent at the BGSU Ice Arena was the Orange and Brown s 3-2 win over No. 10 WMU on Jan. 18, Ranked Opponents This season, nearly every opponent the Falcons have played has either been in the top-20, or receiving votes in the USCHO Poll. The only opponent on the Falcons schedule that has not received votes is Canisius. Hammy At The Century Mark Senior goaltender Andrew Hammond played in his 100th career contest earlier this season against Alaska, earning a 3-2 win (Dec. 7, 2012). Hammond joins Wally Charko, Paul Connell, Gary Kruzich, Tyler Masters, Jordan Sigalet and Jimmy Spratt in the goaltender century mark. Kruzich leads all goalies with 132 career games played for Bowling Green. Return Of The Captains Sophomore Ryan Carpenter and junior Cam Wojtala have been named captains for , after the Falcons did not select a captain last season marked the first season in the history of the program that Bowling Green did not select a captain. Wojtala had the best season of his career last year, recording 10 goals and 13 assists for a career best 23 points. Carpenter led the Orange and Brown with 30 points last season, marking the first Falcon to score 30 points in a season since the campaign, when Brandon Svendsen (30) and Dan Sexton (39) broke the 30-point mark. The New Guys This year marks the smallest recruiting class for the Falcons since the arrival of Chris Bergeron. Six freshmen hit the ice for Bowling Green this season, along with two academic sophomores who begin their first year of eligibility this season. Derek Hills and Dajon Mingo join freshmen Mark Cooper, Ben Murphy, Ralfs Freibergs, Jose Delgadillo, Tommy Burke and Brent Tate to make up the new Falcon faces of Preseason Love The CCHA released its preseason coaches/media poll, picking the Falcons to finish eighth and ninth, respectively. The Falcons and Northern Michigan actually earned a tie for the eighth spot in the coaches poll, edging out Alaska (10) and Lake Superior State (11). Bowling Green also edged out Alaska (11) and Lake Superior (10) in the media poll, falling slightly behind Northern Michigan in the eight spot. This season marks the first time the Falcons have not been picked to finish last in the preseason poll since , when Bowling Green was picked seventh (media) and ninth (coaches). Introducing Tommy Burke Senior Andrew Hammond started the contest against Colgate on Oct. 19, but gave way to freshman Tommy Burke after suffering an injury at the start of the first period. Burke stopped 24-of-25 shots in his first collegiate game, giving him his first career win for the Orange and Brown. Burke s win marked the first freshman goaltender to earn a win for Bowling Green since Nick Eno, in a 5-3 victory against RIT on Oct. 19, Burke started Saturday s contest, allowing four goals on 27 shots. Burke s start marked the first time since Feb. 19, 2011 (Nick Eno) that a goaltender besides Andrew Hammond started a game for the Falcons. Streak Snapped At MSU Bowling Green s 1-0 win on Nov. 2, 2012 snapped an eight game winless streak against Michigan State, dating back to Feb. 21, 2009, a 4-0 win at the BGSU Ice Arena. The win marks the Falcons first victory in East Lansing since the season, a 2-1 win at Munn Ice Arena (Feb. 24, 2007). Streak Snapped At Michigan The Falcons 5-1 victory over Michigan (1/8/13) snapped a six-game losing streak to the Wolverines at Yost Ice Arena. Bowling Green s last win in Ann Arbor came back on Nov. 20, 2009, a 4-2 victory. 50 Points Carpenter s assist on the lone Falcon goal against Miami earlier this season marked his 50th point as a Falcon. Carpenter is the first Falcon to reach the 50-point plateau since the season. That year Tomas Petruska, David Solway, James Perkin and Kai Kantola all reached the half-century mark. Junior Cam Wojtala and sophomore Dan DeSalvo also eclipsed the 50-point mark this season, Wojtala s coming against Lake Superior on Feb. 2, and DeSalvo s coming against Lake Superior on March 10.

17 Box Scores - Last Meeting - Notre Dame BGSU Hockey Notes The Falcons lost to Notre Dame Friday night, falling to the Fighting Irish by a score of 4-3 at the Compton Family Ice Arena. Freshmen Ben Murphy, Brent Tate and junior Brett Mohler scored for the Falcons, while freshman Tommy Burke (5-7-2) stopped 8-of- 11 shots.
