Alaska- Alaska plays a home-and-home series with archrival Alaska Anchorage this weekend to decide the 19th Alaska Airlines Governor s Cup champion. The Nanooks lead in all-time Cup titles with 10 to the Seawolves eight, including seven of the last 10. Bowling Green- Sophomore forward Mike Fink s assist on the lone Falcons goal in a 5-1 loss to Ferris State on Friday night snapped a 15-game point drought, dating back to a Nov. 19 shootout win at Miami. Ferris State- With a sweep of Bowling Green (5-1, 4-1), Ferris State clinched at least a share of the CCHA regular-season title for the first time since the season when the Bulldogs were crowned conference champions and earned their first NCAA Division I Tournament bid. Lake Superior- The Lakers took a 2-1 lead into the third period on Saturday against Western Michigan, and went on to win, 3-2, to improve to 13-0 when leading after the second period this season. Miami- Miami head coach Enrico Blasi became the ninth coach in CCHA history to win 200 career conference games with a 3-0 victory over Notre Dame on Friday. His all-time record in the league is now Michigan- Senior goaltender Shawn Hunwick earned both wins against Northern Michigan this weekend (4-1, 3-2 in overtime) and has now won three straight games. Saturday s win marked his 20th win of the season and the 50th of his career. Michigan State- The Spartans have scored a power-play goal in six straight games and are 8-for-26 (30.8 percent) in those games. In the same stretch, MSU has killed off 24-of-25 power plays against (96 percent). Northern Michigan- Freshman forward Ryan Daugherty scored his first collegiate goal on Friday in a 4-1 loss at Michigan. He tied for the team lead with eight shots on goal in the two games, including a 3-2 overtime loss on Saturday. Notre Dame- Notre Dame scored just one goal in the series against Miami, losing 3-0 and 4-1 to the RedHawks. Friday s shutout was the second in three games against the Irish and Notre Dame has now scored just six goals in six games during the month of February, going in those games. Ohio State- Saturday s game against Miami at Value City Arena is the final regular-season home game for the four members of the Buckeye senior class goaltender Cal Heeter, defenseman Sean Duddy and forwards Cory Schneider and Danny Dries. Western Michigan- Junior defenseman Luke Witkowski had an assist in each game of a split with Lake Superior (3-1 win, 3-2 loss) to push his season total to eight, tying a career high he set last season. Witkowski also has assists in each of the last three games for a career-long point streak. CCHA- Only two of 11 seeds in the CCHA Tournament have been finalized with 10 games to be played on the final weekend of regular-season action. Alaska has locked up No. 10 and Bowling Green will finish 11th. Ferris State has clinched at least a share of the regular-season title and needs a point to clinch the title outright. Treais, UM Jr., F (Bloomfield Hills, MI) Treais had two assists in a 4-1 win over Northern Michigan on Friday and scored the game-winner, added an assist and was the Perani Cup first star in a 3-2 overtime win against the Wildcats on Saturday. Gladiator Defenseman of the Week Lee Moffee, UM Jr. (Wallingford, CT) Moffee had a goal and an assist and was the Perani Cup first star in a 4-1 win over Northern Michigan on Friday. He had two assists in a 3-2 overtime win over the Wildcats on Saturday and blocked three shots on the weekend. CCHA Notable Performers Goaltender of the Week Connor Knapp, MIA Sr. (York, NY) Knapp made 31 saves in a 3-0 shutout of Notre Dame on Friday and stopped 28 shots in a 4-1 win over the Irish on Saturday. He finished the weekend with a 0.50 goals-against average and a.983 save percentage. Scott Enders, UA, SR, D (Edmonton, AB): Enders scored his first goal of the season in a 3-2 overtime loss to Michigan State on Friday. Adam Berkle, BGSU, FR, F (Collegeville, PA): Berkle scored a goal in the Falcons 4-1 loss to Ferris State on Saturday. Matthhew Kirzinger, FSU, JR, F (Leroy, SK): Kirzinger had a goal in both of Ferris State s wins over Bowling Green, 5-1 and 4-1. Fred Cassiani, LSSU, SR, F (Toronto, ON): Cassiani had three assists in a 3-2 win over Western Michigan on Saturday. Reilly Smith, MIA, JR, F (Mimico, ON): Smith scored a goal in both of Miami s wins over Notre Dame, 3-0 and 4-1. He had two assists, blocked six shots and was the Perani Cup third star in 3-0 win against the Nanooks on Saturday. 5 CCHA Weekly Release #21 Page 5 ALASKA Head Coach: Dallas Ferguson (4th Season) Overall Record: Conference Record: BOWLING GREEN Head Coach: Chris Bergeron (2nd season) Overall Record: Conference Record: TEAM NOTES The Nanooks were swept at Michigan State (3-2 in overtime and 3-0) for the first time since Jan , 2007, when the host Spartans beat them, 3-2, in overtime the first night and, 4-3, the second night. Alaska has been swept three times this season, with the previous sweeps coming at home to Miami and at Notre Dame. With an assist on Friday, JR F Andy Taranto moved his career totals to in 105 career games. He leads all current Nanooks in career points. SR D Scott Enders notched his first goal of the season on Friday to record his tenth point of the season, making him the ninth Nanook to reach double figures. SR D Cody Butcher recorded an assist on Friday for his first point of the year and the first since a 6-2 home win against Ohio State on Jan. 29, After allowing a power-play goal in both losses to Ferris State (5-1 and 4-1), Bowling Green has now given up a power-play tally in five straight games, dating back to a 3-2 win at Notre Dame on Feb. 4. Bowling Green s current power-play goal drought now sits at nine games, covering 35 straight power-play opportunities. The Falcons previous season high power-play goal drought was seven games, spanning from Nov Dec. 20. FR F Ted Pletsch s goal on Friday snapped a 121:25 goal drought for the Falcons, dating back to SR F Cam Sinclair s third period goal against Northern Michigan on Feb. 10. Pletsch s goal gives him five on the year, second most among Bowling Green freshmen. Pletsch trails only F Ryan Carpenter (8). Bowling Green has nine wins this season, one away from their total (10) last season. At this point last season, Bowling Green was overall. The Falcons four conference wins this season have already passed last year s total (3). FERRIS STATE Head Coach: Bob Daniels (20th season) Overall Record: Conference Record: THIS WEEK S MATCHUP Friday, Feb. 24 vs. Michigan Saturday, Feb. 25 vs. Michigan Key Note: The Falcons haven t defeated Michigan at home since a 3-2 win on Feb. 9, LAKE SUPERIOR Head Coach: Jim Roque (7th season) Overall Record: Conference Record: Ferris State swept Bowling Green (5-1, 4-1) and is currently on a 14-game unbeaten streak (11-0-3), the longest in the nation, and has not lost in JR F Matthew Kirzinger, FR F TJ Schlueter, SO F Cory Kane and SR F Aaron Schmit each scored a goal in both games. The sweep of the Falcons marks Ferris State s eighth weekend sweep of the season. SR D Chad BIllins has tallied at least one point in each of the Bulldogs last 11 games. His defensive partner, SO D Scott Czarnowczan, has tallied at least one point in each of the last seven games. SO G Kevin Kapalka is sixth against CCHA opponents in save percentage (.922) and tied for eighth in win percentage (.542). Heading into the last regular-season series, the Lakers lead Northern Michigan, 7-5, in the Father Cappo Cup total-goals series. The Lakers won the Cup, 10-6, in and, 16-5, in JR F Domenic Monardo leads the Lakers in points and assists with JR F Nick McParland ( ) is LSSU s top goal scorer and is tied for eighth in goals scored against league opponents (10). McParland is tied for second on the Lakers in points with SO F Colin Campbell ( ). Lake Superior is ninth nationally in penalty killing (85.1 percent) and is sixth against CCHA opponents (83.7 percent). On the power play, LSSU is first against league opponents (22.6 percent) and 11th nationally (21.8 percent). 6 Page 6 CCHA Weekly Release #21 MIAMI Head Coach: Enrico Blasi (13th Season) Overall Record: Conference Record: Miami swept Notre Dame, 3-0 and 4-1, at home. The sweep was Miami s fifth of the year, three of which have come at home while four were in CCHA play. The RedHawks also swept Alaska, Michigan State and Western Michigan. With the two victories, Miami is now riding a seasonhigh, four-game winning streak after sweeping Alabama-Huntsville on Feb Miami freshmen forwards Tyler Biggs, Cody Murphy and Blake Coleman combined to score four of Miami s seven goals on the weekend. RedHawk newcomers have now tallied 38 of Miami s 95 goals this season (40 percent). The freshmen have also accounted for 36.1 percent of the team s points with 91 of the 252 points on the season after totaling eight of Miami s 16 points against Notre Dame. JR F Reilly Smith scored a goal in both wins over Notre Dame, the fourth time this year he has scored at least a goal in both games of a weekend (at Colgate Oct , vs. Providence and Denver Nov , and vs. Western Michigan Jan ). He is also now riding a four-game point streak. Smith leads the CCHA with 23 goals, which ranks second nationally. Smith has a team-best 32 points as well, which is third in the CCHA. MICHIGAN Head Coach: Red Berenson (28th season) Overall Record: Conference Record: TEAM NOTES JR D Lee Moffie and JR F A.J. Treais each posted scoring lines in Michigan s sweep of Northern Michigan (4-1 and 3-2 in overtime).
