It was the first time that UConn has scored exactly four goals in back-to-back games since the season against St. Lawrence and Clarkson. In addition to Garcia s combined 54 saves against the Colonials, she made 27 stops in her third shutout victory of the season. Michelle Binning scored three goals over the two games. Freshman Maude Blain tallied her first of the season with a shorthanded goal to start the Jan. 8 contest while juniors Brittany Murphy and Jennifer Chaisson joined Binning on the board on Jan. 9. Four Over Two for Co Senior assistant captain Michelle Binning pulled in Hockey East Pure Hockey Player of the Week honors on Jan. 5, sharing the title with another student-athlete. Binning was incredibly effective against the Big Green, scoring the gamewinner on Jan. 2 and recording three points in the 3-3 tie (Jan. 3). She had a hand in each goal, tacking on an assist to the first of the game and scoring two power-play goals of her own against Dartmouth. Binning has been named the Player of the Week twice this season and three times in her career. The Oshawa, Ont. native leads the team with 22 points for a teamhigh 15 goals, five of which have come on the power play. Ringing in the New Year A two-game series at home marked the start of the New Year for the Huskies, with a pair of games against their second-consecutive ECAC opponent in Dartmouth. UConn held off an attempted Big Green comeback on Jan. 2 after jumping out to a 2-0 lead with goals from Casey Knajdek and Amy Hollstein. Michelle Binning tallied her second gamewinner of the season to aid the Huskies in a favorable 3-2 decision. On Jan. 3, she scored two-consecutive power-play goals in a physical game that saw 18 penalties called between the two teams. UConn scored three unanswered goals en route to the 3-3 tie to capping off the two-game stint at Freitas. Back Assist It Again Senior assistant captain Cristin Allen has resumed her role as the assist leader with a team-best 14 assists this season. She is among the team s scoring leaders with 14 assists and two goals. She is second in the Hockey East among defensemen with 15 points this season. Coming Up Fast Right behind Cristin Allen in scoring defensemen is sophomore Sami Evelyn, who after a relatively slow start had a pair of assists at Vermont (Jan. 16 & 17). She jumped into the league leading mix after a pair of assists against Yale (Nov. 28) in the Nutmeg Classic Championship game and a pair of goals over Boston University (Dec. 4). Evelyn is third in the Hockey East among defensemen with 13 points from three goals and eight assists. Through 24 games, she has exceeded her freshman year campaign effort of 11 points (4G, 7A). More Than One Senior captain Amy Hollstein had a solid weekend against Dartmouth (Jan. 2 & 3) with a goal in each game and adding an assist on the gamewinner. She scored the final goal fo the game at Vermont (Jan. 17) on Sunday. Shollstein is third with 82 career points and has recorded 11 points in 24 games. On Oct. 23, a trio of players finished the game at Brown with three points as Rebecca Hewett (3A), Jessica Lutz (2G, 1A) and Elisabeth Stathopulos (2G, 1A) did so against the Bears. Prior to the Huskies performance at Brown, UConn had not had a single player record three points in a single game since Jan. 23, One More, Down One Since the program record was set in three season, the Huskies have matched their five shorthanded goal effort three times. Binning needs just eight more to slide into fourth all-time while Hollstein sits in third with 83 career points. Down, but Not Out [Last Time Against Maine] En route to its 7-2 victory at Maine on Nov. 8, UConn scored a program-best three shorthanded goals in a single game against the Black Bears. Three separate players showed that the Huskies are just as much an offensive threat when the opposition is on the power play. Jennifer Chaisson, Michelle Binning and Monique Weber all scored their first career shorthanded goals. Chaisson scored on the power play as well, giving the Huskies four of their seven goals in special team situations. Jessica Lutz got things started in the second period and freshmen Elisabeth Stathopulos and Kelly Horan capped things off with a goal each in the final minute of the game. Sophomore Alexandra Garcia made 29 saves to keep the Black Bears at bay while Cristin Allen aided the offense with a career-high four assists. First Time, Since the Last Time In four games this season, UConn s power play has produced a pair of goals and for the second time this season, a single player has been responsible for both. Michelle Binning scored two-consecutive power play goals against the Big Green in a 3-3 tie on Jan. 3. The Huskies have scored two-power play goals at Brown (Oct. 23), against Union (Oct. 24) and Boston University (Dec. 3). On Nov. 28, three power-play goals lifted UConn over Yale in the Nutmeg Classic Championship game. In the 4-1 victory over Union, Monique Weber was responsible for each power-play goal. Binning and Weber are not the only ones to score on the power play this season, although they are both among the team leaders with five and four power-play goals in 24 games. Stat(hopulo)s Leader In addition to leading the freshman class on the UConn stat sheet, rookie Elisabeth Stathopulos is eighth in the conference among freshmen with 13 points. Stathopulos broke her scoring drought with a goal at Mellon Arena on Jan. 8. The Toronto, Ont. native earned Bauer Rookie of the Week honors for the first time on Oct. 9 after scoring the game-tying mark at then-no. 5 St. Lawrence. Tangle with the Ivy UConn concluded the first-half of the schedule with a 2-1 loss at the hands of then- No. 6/7 Harvard. The Crimson were the second-consecutive nationally-ranked opponent for the Huskies after a showing versus then-no. 10 Boston University Terriers in Hockey East action. Harvard extended its unbeaten streak to eight games despite a power-play goal by Cristin

5 Allen and a career-high save effort by two-time Defensive Player of the Week, Alexandra Garcia. Garcia turned aside 35 shots, marking the first time in her career that she made 30 or more saves in a game. Rustle with Rhett Connecticut overpowered then-no. 10 Boston University (Dec. 4) en route to a 4-3 victory at Freitas. The Huskies used a pair of power-play goals from Michelle Binning and a pair of goals from Sami Evelyn to comeback from an early deficit. Alexandra Garcia made 29 saves the following day and turned aside each Terrier shootout opportunity after 65 minutes of play. Senior captain Amy Hollstein came through in the clutch with a goal in the shootout to win it for the Huskies, earning the extra point in the conference standings. Consistent Presence After 20 starts this season, sophomore Alexandra Garcia has recorded 20 or more saves in six of the last nine games, allowing just 1.81 goals per game. She recorded a trio of shutouts over a seve-game span, including a 27 save performance at Robert Morris (Jan. 9) for her third of the season. She turned aside every shot on goal against Boston College (Nov. 14) for her first and had a 20 save night against Quinnipiac (Nov. 27). Garcia has twice been named the Hockey East s Defensive Player of the Week and narrowly missed out on monthly accolades in December, named as a runner-up. First and 30 With the first goal of the game at then-no. 4 New Hampshire (Oct. 31), senior Michelle Binning scored her 30th career goal. She now has 41 and needs one more to tie classmate Amy Hollstein in career goals at Connecticut. She is fifth on the all-time career scoring list with 69 points, passing Megan McLeod ( ) after a three-goals against Robert Morris (Jan. 8 & 9). Binning needs just eight points to tie Tiffany Owens ( ) for fourth on the career list. Three-Peat For the first time in the Nutmeg Classic s history, a single team won three-straight titles as UConn defeated Yale, 6-1 to capture the 2009 Nutmeg Championship (Nov. 28). Senior Michelle Binning was named the Tournament MVP, contributing a goal and an assist in the final game while sophomore Alexandra Garcia received the Laurie Bellevue Award. Garcia recorded her second career shutout in UConn s 1-0 victory over Quinnipiac to earn a spot in the championship game. She became the first Connecticut goalie since Shannon Murphy to receive the award for the netminder with the best save percentage. With her MVP award, Binning became the secondconsecutive UConn player named as such at the Classic. Allen Aids and Binning Brings It In For the first time since last season s opener against Sacred Heart, a Connecticut player recorded four points in a single game at Brown (Oct. 23) and then another joined that elite group at Maine (Nov. 8). Senior Michelle Binning scored twice and added two assists at Brown and against the Black Bears, Cristin Allen recorded a career-high four assists. In recognition of Binning s outstanding performance, she was acknowledged as the Hockey East s Pure Hockey Player of the Week for the second time in her career. She leads the team in scoring with 22 points while Allen continues to pace the Huskies with 14 assists. Ahead of the Previous Pace Junior Brittany Murphy is among the team s scoring leaders with 12 points from four goals and eight assists. In 24 games, Murphy has surpassed her previous two season totals as a freshman and a sophomore. She finished her rookie campaign with a solid 11 points (4G, 7A) and followed up with an even effort of five goals and five assists (10 pts.). Likewise, classmate Jessica Lutz has recorded nine points in 24 games in comparison to a goal and three assists in 35 games a season ago. A day later, junior Brittany Murphy scored the game-tying goal against Providence (Nov. 1). Sophomore Alexandra Garcia made eight of her 29 saves to preserve a tie through regulation. The Huskies fell in their second shootout of the seaso,. Brown Breaking Results The Huskies 8-1 victory at Brown was an eventful evening in Providence, R.I. as Michelle Binning became the first player to score four points in a game this season with two goals and two assists. Three players finished the night with three points, the first time even a single UConn player has done so since a Jan. 23 game versus Northeastern last season. Rebecca Hewett had a career-high three assists while Jessica Lutz (1G, 2A) and Elisabeth Stathopulos (2G, 1A) rounded out the trio of players to finish with three points. Binning and Stathopulos were the first pair of two goal scorers since Amy Hollstein and Binning each netted a pair at Minnesota State-Mankato (Oct. 4, 2008). Home Opener Junior Brittany Murphy scored the eventual gamewinner against Syracuse (Oct. 16) in the Huskies 3-2 home-opening victory while senior Michelle Binning and junior Lauren LeMond also got on the board. It was Murphy s first gamewinner and 11th career goal. In her first start of the year, senior Jennie Bellonio made 18 saves for the win. UConn fell to Colgate (Oct. 17), 5-2, for the first time in series history. Sophomore Alexandra Garcia and Bellonio combined for 11 saves while junior Jody Sydor and sophomore Monique Weber scored against the Raiders. Saturday Slide Despite another 20 or more save performance from sophomore Alexandra Garcia, UConn was unable to score in its 4-0 loss to No. 7 Clarkson (Oct. 10). Both sophomore Monique Weber and freshman Kelly Horan had three scoring opportunities against the Golden Knights, coming up short in the end. It was the first time UConn had faced Clarkson in women s ice hockey.

7 Scouting the Black Bears Maine returned from the midseason break with a pair of exhibition wins over the University of Moncton on Jan. 2 and 4. The Black Bears returned to Hockey East action, suffering a 3-1 loss at the hands of then-no. 8, and currently league leading, Northeastern last weekend. Going into the break, Maine had one three of its last four games, including a pair of conference victories over Vermont.
